If I pass by you, will you hold on to my hand like you've always done? Even if it's for a second, it's fine even if it's just for a moment... Hold onto me. Hold onto me...me.

"Did you bring an umbrella? It's raining outside."

"You...what are you?"

"The person who holds your hand."

OK, can we now cue for just OTP sweetness for the final episode? is that too much to ask?

Translation-wise, this wasn't as difficult as the previous one. Myul Mang's answer to Dong Kyung's shell-shocked questions is "손자비" which is translated to "a person who hands a hand," but the meaning behind it is that the original Korean likens it to a role/job, like that of a doctor or a bus driver. Myul Mang's Kim Saram's purpose in life is to hold onto Dong Kyung's hand.

The umbrella also holds significance, not just unique to the story, but mostly as a romantic trope. Umbrellas have been used as a symbol of a fated love, more commonly known in the Japanese ai ai gasa ("相合傘") translated as "to share an umbrella" or "love-love umbrella.

Dora the Deity.

"If something messes up the system, it means it was programmed wrong. Something that is wrong... must be deleted. Or... it should be reset."

I admit to a bias against kdrama deities, a bias born from fantasy kdramas like Goblin and its god-butterfly. I mean, for months afterwards whenever I saw a butterfly, I thought, goddamn, god-butterfly! And don't even get me started on Extraordinary You's writer-deity who might have been human but was a god to those characters. Many a night was spent staring at the screen wondering if it was better to be puppeteered or to dare for free will and for that daring be excised from the page and cast into the void... :thousand mile stare: I digress but my point is made: after those experiences, Dora the sickly god wouldn't easily receive the benefit of the doubt from me.

So this scene and the above quote infuriated me, not least of which because it bisected my otp's oh-so-stirring first kiss. But 12 eps and a full rewatch later has given me a new reading on Dora. It's not that I no longer think she's equal parts manipulative and protective and willing to be shitty. It's that, in this scene and the subsequent mind-fuck of Myul Mang, I now see her as being protective of Myul Mang while manipulating the system rather than vice versa.

12 eps in, we know the world runs on humans, at least one deity (Dora), at least one entity empowered by that deity (Myul Mang) and an underlying system interwoven with fate. This system hasn't shown sentience as much as an "intelligence" that responds to fate and certain triggers. Myul Mang is on course to ricochet off-script which will likely trigger the system into action - delete or reset. So, what if Dora sending Myul Mang on a journey through Tak Dong Kyung's lowlights was her attempt at a "soft" reset? Thanks to Dora's mean girl interference, the system believes there's nothing to see here as Myul Mang spends just enough time being an obedient little Doom to clear the idea there was ever a problem. Seen through this prism most of Dora's herky-jerky behavior can be read as her guiding and manipulating the system's auto-correct functions by pushing and pulling Myul Mang to and/or from his feelings for Dong Kyung.

That's a lot of work to shepherd a romance/meeting that appears ordained by fate (going by ep 12) but looking at the particulars of Dora's and Myul Mang's roles, the system appears to be a byzantine trap prone to cruel peculiarities, so... :shrug: Speaking of fate, I wonder if that's also why Dora had to take so much care? I think it's clear Myul Mang and Dong Kyung are fated (she could always see the real him) but what if the specific nature of that fate is obscure to Dora. What if she isn't sure if Dong Kyung just shares a fate with Myul Mang's birthday wish - a wish that requires journeys through fate, time and lives to exist - or if the two share a fated love?

Then the choice to offer Dong Kyung that particular way out of the contract - removing Myul Mang from her fate - is a huge gamble. Which fate is fungible? Which fate is not? Her apology to Myul Mang in the aftermath of the severing reads sincere. There seems to be no trace of the improved Myul Mang in the reset version and her Myul Mang plant is nearly dead - she rolled the dice and appeared to roll wrong. And her relief as the plant recovers is just as sincere: she hadn't rolled wrong, the otp is inevitable. Now there's just the pesky problem of Dong Kyung's fated death date. Sigh.

My Top 3 Korean Drama's That I Watched In 2021!

Hi everyone! I hope you're all well. I can't quite believe that we're nearly at the end of 2021! Where has this year gone?

This year has been epic for drama watching, so today I'm gonna list my top 3 drama's that I've watched this year! Do you have the same taste in drama's as me?

1.) Vincenzo 빈센조

Well of course the top spot has to go to my favourite mafia boss and leader of the Corn Salad appreciation club right! This is my most fave drama ever! I love all the violence*ahem* sorry action scenes, the funny one liners (Sorry but Vinnie in a pigeon mask cooing will never not be funny) and the great comradery between the Geumga gang made this drama a whole universe of stars in my opinion. Nevermind the traditional 5 star rating. (Just a side note: Ok TaecYeon's acting in this drama was so good, I'm kinda low key scared of him for life now! 🤣 Like I'm sure he's very lovely and kind in real life, but that acting was too good man! TOO DAMN GOOD!) Geumga Gang For Life! Except for Chef Toto, Toto is a demon sent straight from hell! *See my other Vincenzo posts from earlier in the year to get what I mean by this! 😄🤣)

2.) Doom At Your Service 어느 날 우리 집 현관으로 멸망이 들어왔다

I swear if Vincenzo hadn't been so good, this drama would have held top spot for my number 1 drama this year. It's soooooo good! I cried numerous times, laughed and cheered like a woman possessed. This drama gave me all the feels. I lived for this show to air every week. My fave scene had to be when Tak Dong - Kyung & Myul Mang recreated all the K-Drama Tropes. It had me in stitches! However the scene where he disappeared BROKE ME AND MY STUPID FEELING HEART! Writers what did you do to me? Ugh that scene destroyed me! DESTROYED ME! Such a good drama 5/5 stars. Beautiful show! (Side note: Can I just say how much I loved Myul Mang's blue hair! It's so cool!)

3.) True Beauty 여신강림

Coming up in 3rd place is True beauty. I fell in love with this drama so much! It had such feel good moments contrasted with moments that made me properly sob. In the scenes when Im Ju- Kyung got bullied I was absolutely raging! I just can't believe that people can be so nasty over the way somebody looks. Plus in my humble opinion there was absolutely NOTHING WRONG with how she looked before she had make up anyways. My belief is that you can always buy make up to cover up acne, but you can't get concealer to cover up a bad and rotten personality, which those mean girls had in a bountiful supply! Those bullies made me so angry! Also can I just say I balled my eyes out when Han Seo - Joon crumpled on the stairs after his shot with IJK never really took off. On a more positive note, I liked the shows sense of humour, the OST made me so happy, I mean I think I've played the songs on it to death by now, but each time I hear 'Call me maybe' by SAya I'm grabbing my wooden spoon and gently screeching into it! Another 5/5 drama! LOVED IT!

So there we go everyone! My top 3 drama's that I watched in 2021!

All the actors in these drama's were outstanding and made the shows really enjoyable to watch. I hope they have a bright and beautiful 2022, and I can't wait to see what other drama's they star in next!
