Huevember day 25: “…The Shepherd King.”
“In my time in this land of myth and mystery I have come across many such statues, all in similar states of erosion and overgrowth; in each, a regal figure stands above a sheep, arm outstretched—perhaps once holding an object of importance? I am eager to discover his true identity, but for the sake of my record I have tentatively dubbed him…”

I think that Scott of Chromia is the spiritual successor to the Codfather for no reason other than they both ran into the problem of placing their empire next to that one lunatic who builds an insane amount and ended up with giant structures 1 inch away from the property line.

As a chicken, do you think Sir Carlos can talk or does he communicate strictly through writing?

so empires smp is a fantasy setting right? so you know what we do when there's a fantasy setting? do complex worldbuilding to figure out how each empire would communicate of course :)
(basically this is just an excuse for me to dump my brain out a bit)
Codlands- i feel like the codlands wouldn't actually have a set way for communication. in my mind, it's one of the smallest empires and is pretty casual at that, so if they need a message sent out someone will deliver it personally
Crystal Cliffs- magic!! gotta use that magic for something. i feel like gem would use doves or something for more casual communication (for style points ofc) but if it's urgent i wanna say there's a way to magically kind of fax notes straight to someone. like you're sitting at your desk and POOF, note. i also like to think that her and fwhip exchange "talking notes" like that one in harry potter that ron gets where it records your voice i guess? i dunno i think they do it for gossip since it's best consumed spoken not written
Gilded Helianthia- duckies :)) i don't know a single thing about pearl's empire yet but i know it has a duck flag so yeah duck messengers
Grimlands- the grimlands uses a mix of carrier pigeons and ravens. plus, later on when fwhip learns a bit of magic he starts using the magic notes with gem but the actual citizens don't do that
House Blossom- is it house blossom or the overgrowth? i dunno i still need to watch katherine's pov. anyway i think people will just. get flowers that show up on their doorstep or something from the overgrowth. no one knows how they get there and the messages attached are always slightly cryptic
Mezalea- hot air balloons!! like joel's delivery service :D i think it's not very efficient but gets style points definitely. like imagine a tiny balloon floating down to your window to give you a note. that's magical
Maztec Empire- i feel like they don't communicate with anyone outside their own empire i dunno why. maybe cause it's called the lost empire? i know nothing about joey's pov yet tho so this will probably change
Mythland- they don't communicate sausage just appears behind you if he needs to tell you something. how? 🤷‍♂️
Ocean Empire- fish are best messengers. yeah they get the paper wet but look at their little faces. you're gonna be mad at that lil guy?
Pixandria- i'm gonna say that wandering traders give out messages for you. like mailmen. so there's a whole system of wandering trader comes back home, stocks up goods to travel again, someone pays for them to deliver a message, etc.
Rivendell- the owls! harry potter mfs using owls for mail 🤨 but i think scott actually uses an owl for mail in an episode but i'm not sure? i watched his pov like 8 months ago i can't remember
Undergrove- i'd have to give this some actual thought but at the moment i think it would be very funny if they could make mushrooms spell out messages like the mosquitoes in gravity falls. like they're very simple and always kind of misspelled
i have not watched all the povs so some stuff may not be accurate so please let me know if i should change anything (please feed my worldbuilding need please please please please please please)

How to Become the King of Mythland
(For Dummies)
Since I already made the posts for the Roseblings, I figured I'd go ahead and write the one for the third core member of the WRA. (I am still accepting suggestions for who to do next for this series, so far I've done Pix, the Seablings, and the Roseblings)
The usual copy+paste of Relevant Notes to start...
Also a general note relevant to the succession criteria of the majority of the empires. Remember this whole thing, where Pix kind of accidentally changed the formal definition of war in the empires? That had a lot of implications for how royalty functioned in the Empires. While they still absolutely have internal duties and responsibilities and privileges, ultimately their most important job is that they stand ready to defend their empire and its people at all times. Part of this is that they also function as international ambassadors in a way, while most empires also have official ambassadors, the relationships and interactions between the emperors themselves are a very important (sometimes volatile) facet of international relations. A country cannot be recognized internationally as an autonomous nation without an official Emperor/Head of State.
Mythland is one of the oldest mortal realms, neck and neck with Helianthia (the exact order there is a hotly debated point) it's population is about equal parts human and hybrid and, like the Grimlands, it is not uncommon to find faint traces of various fae ancestries among the populace.
It is not the largest kingdom, but it is one of the strongest. And is famed for its beautiful and efficient infrastructure.
Mythland is one of the empires with a more "traditional" monarchy, traced through bloodline. The current royal family, House Sausage, has held the throne for about ten or twelve generations.
Since the advent of the role of royalty changing, the heirs to the throne have undergone a slightly altered education, culminating in a "final exam"/"quest" in which they are required to meet certain requirements to prove their worth to inherit the crown and defend the empire and its people.
Usually after their quest is completed and they have officially graduated from their (rigorous) military training, they have a few years to focus on less martial elements of education before their parent abdicates and passes on the crown, but in Sausage's case his parents were assassinated at the same time as the Count of the Grimlands, and he was crowned shortly thereafter, the very day after his parents were buried.
(Yes, there was a coordinated attack on several rulers at once, yes this is relevant to several of their backstories. This is also when Pearl became Queen of Helianthia.)
And obviously this kind of trauma and lack of time and space to grieve properly had no negative effects on Mythical J Sausage whatsoever. :)

Lost to Time (Excerpt)
Location: Mythland
Time: 4:21 PM, Friday, November 1
Gem swooped on her wings into the beautiful kingdom of Mythland, ruled by King Sausage. Despite its scenic gardens and hanging vines, it was a deadly place, where many entered… but only the strongest made it back out. It was also home to the Assassin’s Guild, where Sausage himself set out to assassinate people’s enemies. He held no loyalties but Mythland and Gilded Helianthia, where Gem’s friend Queen Pearl lived.
She stepped cautiously into the seemingly unsuspecting bar. Sausage was behind the counter, cleaning glasses, but Gem’s sharp sense of magic and her keen eyes did not fail to overlook the deadly sharp knives lining the walls, some spattered with rust. Or… something else. Gem preferred not to think about those knives, so focused on the king.
“Gem! Just the person I was looking for! So I’ve noticed a strange amount of blood sheep lately, don’t know why. Really all I’ve been doing is taking care of the Guild-“ here, Sausage motioned to the wall of knives - “and being in the summoning circle. Just chanting these. Nothing much.”
“The summoning circle? Sausage what have you been saying?!” Gem cried.
“Nothing, just what’s in this book.” Sausage said, as he tossed a book to her. It was surprisingly thick.
“What page?” Gem asked apprehensively.
“The first one.” He said, waving off her concerned expression with a wave of his cleaning rag. Gem opened the book.
All hail the blood sheep
All hail the blood sheep
All hail the blood sheep
All hail the blood sheep
All hail the blood sheep
“Sausage! What is this?” Gem snapped. “Don’t meddle in such things, it can and it WILL have bad-“
“What was that?”
Just before Gem could finish lecturing her fellow ruler about dark magic, she saw a glimpse of a person-like silhouette… but different. Gem shivered violently - something definitely was not right. And if nothing was wrong, the usually warm kingdom of Mythland was now very cold. Which was still wrong.
“Is everything alright Gem?”
“I am… I think. Sausage, we need to get out of here.”
“Relax! This is Mythland, I’m here! Nothing will happen. Only good things.”
“Magic, Sausage, magic. It’s telling me to go! Maybe… if we are going to stay we should go and get my crystals. They’ll help ward off evil power.”
“I… see… you…” a raspy voice said seemingly just behind them.
Sausage jumped and Gem shrieked, and whirled around to look. But there was nothing there save falling particles of deep purple and red.

Mythland
Represented by: Zander M. Sausage; King
Titles/names of the representative: Sausage, King Sausage, Lord Sausage
Race of the representative: Human (Magic-enhanced)
Race of the population: Mainly human, variety
Anyone who wants to become a professional explorer is recommended to move to Mythland.
Population size: ~7,500,000
Though the population is high, many of the citizens of Mythland are out exploring, meaning the average number of people within Mythland territory is closer to 6mil.
Alliances: Gilded Helanthia, Grimlands, CCAM, Losheedi
Gilded Helanthia was a mutual ally of the Grimlands and CCAM, so Mythland filled the gap.
Many people from the Grimlands migrate over to Mythland, and vice versa. They’re on good terms because of such.
CCAM was still a part of the Grimlands when Mythland allied with it, so the alliance remains intact with CCAM.
Losheedi is allied with (almost) everyone.
Political strength: #3
The explorers of Mythland have many legends written about them, and the artifacts many explorers collect add to the ever-expanding wealth of the country. Being allied with the Grimlands boosts its strength marginably.
Exports: Iron, weaponry
Type of government: Meritocracy
Flag: Two vertical red stripes on either side of a white base. The white base has a detailed silver and gold coat of arms with green leaves sprouting out of the sides. The coat of arms contains various weapon types, as well as a sheep skull.
Climate: Moderate weather year-round.
Summer: Hot and sunny.
Fall: Windy, but not many big storms hit Mythland.
Winter: It gets cold, but not by much, especially down south.
Spring: Humid, rainy, and warm. Horrible combination.

Empires smp Headcanons
Been having all of these in mind for a LONG long while. Many of these have been built up over the past months after reading different headcanons, fics, and content, along with my obsession over world building and fictional politics. So I feel like I need to make my own set of headcanons and AUs especially with a (maybe) future project related to this world.
So first I'm gonna lay out the basic politics in this world, starting out with which emperor is and isn't mortal. Why is that important? Well let's see,
(Important to note that I haven't watched every pov so there might be some holes and inaccuracies to canon here and there)
First of, most of the empires and nations could be categorized as either ruled by mortals or immortals/semi-immortals.
Mortals are typically the rulers of Pixandria, Mazelea, Mythland, Gilded Helianthia, the Lost Empire, the Crystal Cliffs, and the Grimlands.
Meanwhile Rivendell, The Codlands, The Overgrown, The Undergrove, and The Ocean Empire have semi-immortal rulers. Semi-immortal meaning that they live longer lives compared to the average human.
However, this is different from the Ocean and Codlands. For example, the merlings of the ocean empire and Codlands aren't as immortal as their rulers (Lizzie and Jimmy) but only have longer life spans in comparison.
Historically there has been 5 nations that have major political, cultural, and magical influences on the continent, Rivendell, Mazelea, The Ocean Empire, The  Lost Empire, and Mythland.
The Grimlands however has gained prominence for the past couple of decades due to their exports on gunpowder, weaponry, and technology. Primarily a farming nation, today people of different nations would travel to the Grimlands just to study advance redstone tech.
The Crystal Cliffs used to be an autonomous region from the Grimlands. They were given independence by the Grimlands peacefully after an agreement between the Count and Head Wizard. Most of the residents are of Grimland heritage, however the region has heavy Elven and Fae influences.
The political affairs of the Crystal Cliffs are handled by the Head Wizard, who is chosen by Gandalf (an immortal cat) in a ceremony. It is important for the Head Wizard to find a balance and intervene between the mortals and immortals. This typically leads to the Crystal Cliffs being neutral in most conflicts.
In a unique sense, the Crystal Cliffs is ruled by both a mortal (the head wizard) and an immortal (Gandalf the cat).
Gilded Helianthia used to be under the Empire of Mythland until they declared independence from them. This revolution was supported by Rivendell, the Overgrown, and the Codlands.
Rivendell saw the revolution by the Helianthians as a good way to cripple Mythland’s expanding influence from the northwest, and by extension, the Blood Sheep’s influence.
The Overgrown, headed by House Blossom, aided in the conflict because of the good relations between the Fae and the Helianthians. Helianthia had a culture and religion that closely respects nature, something that the Fae favored.
The Codland emperor meanwhile just did not like Mythland. They’ve been in conflict for centuries and Jimmy jumped on the opportunity to own Mythland somehow.
So Jimmy had his people fighting on the north, warding off Mazaelean forces from aiding Mythland.
His sister remained neutral during this period, however gave aid by sending troops to Codland in guise of Codlanders returning from the Ocean pilgrimage.
Important to note, all of this event happened two generation before Scott’s time period. So this would include Katherine, who avoids conflicts at all cost.
During this period, Mythland’s empire stretched to the west of the jungle, a territory that used to belong to the Lost Empire.
Mythland didn’t wanted to let go of the Helianthian region due to the fertile soil from the flood plains. The region produces majority of the wheat and other food products that Mythland heavily relies on to feed their populous and armies. This has been Mythland’s advantage over several nations and many nations also relied on Mythland for this.
Mythland in this conflict was supported by the Grimlands and Mazaelea. The Grimland was in a centuries long alliance meanwhile Mazaelea had a treaty with them.
The produce from the Grimlands aided Mythland in the war when they lost access to Helianthia’s farmlands.
This made the Fae and Elven armies advance to the southern jungles of the collapsing Lost Empire, intercepting Grimland exports to the north.
The Lost Empire was primarily neutral to the conflict. The rulers found the advancing Elven and Fae armies alarming and asked a meeting with the leaders of both nations.
They signed a treaty with them that the region will be given back to the Lost Empire if they allowed their armies to cut off the Grimlands' exports of potatoes to Mythland and Mazaelea.
This led to a great lost in Mythland, eventually giving Gilded Helianthia its independence.
The surrender also had Mythland give up a region of the jungle back to the Lost Empire (these territories did not lasted in their hands for too long due to internal politics and went back to Mythland within 20 years) along with disputed territories with Codlands.
For a long period after the revolution, Helianthia had hostilities with Mythland. This eventually mellowed out over a few centuries and nowadays the two nations are political allies that do regular trade with each other.
At one point in history, Mythland had a queen consort from Helianthia. This Helianthian queen helped Gilded Helianthia eased into the Wither Rose Alliance, allowing the nation to gain more trade and military benefits from the Grimlands.
The Wither Rose Alliance is a centuries old ally ship created mainly by the rulers of the Grimlands and Mythland before the Crystal Cliffs separated from the former. The alliance was created due to having a shared enemy with the Cod empire and to strengthen trade and military support.
The Crystal Cliffs originally was not a part of the alliance after their independence due to the nation’s desire to stay neutral. The nation only joined 5 decades after the Helianthian War of independence.
