So is the whole "phallo is EXTREMELY dangerous and riskier than heart surgery" shit untrue too..I really hope it is...
Oh yeah, it’s absolutely a crock of shit.
Listen, any time you go under general anesthesia is risky, and the longer you’re under, the more risks there are. So a surgery that takes 6-8 hours, no matter what it is, is going to be potentially dangerous.
But it’s important to know that a risk being present doesn’t make it LIKELY. You take at least as much risk driving to the grocery store as you would having phalloplasty—and if lightning strikes and something life-threatening DOES happen to you on the road, you’re not going to have an entire team of highly-trained, well-equipped medical personnel literally standing over you seeing to your wellbeing when it happens.
The single most important thing that gets considered when deciding if a patient needs surgery is whether the potential risks are outweighed by the benefits. I think the fact a 2020 study found that 59% of trans men were under the impression that bottom surgery is “too risky” but 97% of those who’ve had radial arm flap phalloplasty report full satisfaction with the results says a lot, don’t you? Stop spreading the misinformation that type 2 diabetes is caused only by eating too much sugar or by being obese!
Type 2 diabetes is primarily genetic (more so than type 1!), but there are multiple risk factors including age, weight, race, gender, and diet/lifestyle (source one) (source two).
The heritability of type 2 diabetes is estimated to be between 40-70% according to a twin study published in May of 2020 (source).
Type 2 diabetes is also linked to insulin resistance, which is genetic.

Yuri!!! On Ice Mythbusting!
Did Yuuri buy one ring or a pair?
There’s this persistent myth going on in the Yuri!!! On Ice fandom that in Barcelona, Yuuri bought only one ring, and Viktor secretly bought the other one earlier, despite the rings being described as a matching pair in the anime. So which one is true?
Let's do some mythbusting!
In her episode commentary for the Go Yuri Go!!! official fanbook Mitsurou Kubo talked about the rings and explained why she and Sayo Yamamoto decided that Yuuri buys a pair. This is a recent translation of this paragraph done by rikeijo:
The rings that Yuuri bought are pair-rings. [I chose pair-rings] because when I did some research I saw they are cheaper when you buy two (laugh) and if they were to have matching items I thought that rings are after all the most fitting item. A lot of real world skaters also wear accessories as protective charms. But more than that, Yuuri, who has surprised Victor many times in the show, wanted one more weapon, or should I say a new item to fight in the final battle. When I proposed this idea of rings to Yamamoto-director, she answered "Yes! This is it!!" (laugh). We started talking like: an athlete in a stressful situation would definitely do something like that! So it was closer to something like "let's wear the same items as members of the same club [bukatsu]", rather than meaning marriage.
(For a full translation of Mitsurou's commentary, please check out rikeijo's blog!)
In older translations like this interview in the 2017/3 issue of PASH! Magazine, she also talks about a pair, and if you check Google, you will find even more translations on this subject. While they all differ in wording, they agree that Yuuri bought a pair. As many characters in episodes 10 and 11 point out, these rings perfectly match each other. In the restaurant scene, Viktor says they’re a pair. As it was revealed after the broadcast of the series, the rings have engravings which, when put together, form the image of a large snowflake and two smaller ones.
Tumblr media
If they had bought two separate rings, they would need to go through a lot of effort to make them match (or search all the jewellery shops in Barcelona and hope to find the same design). The poor jeweller would need to adjust the design and engrave the snowflakes—and this is time-consuming and probably expensive. I doubt the rings would have been ready in time for the GPF. It's not an impossible theory, but it’s quite a stretch. I don't see a benefit in this, especially since Yuuri wants an omamori for the Grand Prix Final. Omamori are amulets or charms, which are sold at Buddhist temples and Shinto Shrines. They come in various forms and purposes. An ordinary omamori wouldn't do because Yuuri's skating and feelings for Viktor are intertwined. He has been very vocal about his desire to form an inseparable bond with Viktor at the press con in episode 5. Therefore, the item of his choice must combine all these different requirements. This article gives a brilliant overview of the various kinds of omamori. A certain omamori is for couples who wish to stay together and is sold as a pair. Yuuri thus creates his own omamori, using a matching pair of golden rings.
According to my current understanding of the spiritual aspects, two individual rings would violate the concept of omamori, i.e. would not be able to bestow good luck and thus would be unsuited for Yuuri's purpose.
The multi-layered meaning of the rings has been analysed in depth before. Please check out this fascinating post by sachiro and this no less amazing post by lazuliblade to fully appreciate the value these rings have to Yuuri and Viktor. Two individual rings could never reflect all this.
I suspect that this screenshot, which has confused Western and Japanese fans likewise, is keeping the ring myth alive.
Tumblr media
Yes, that's right. This bill says that Yuuri only buys one ring, which is curious because a few seconds earlier he says “Can you show me these two?” But why would the production team change Kubo-sensei’s ideas when she and Sayo Yamamoto were head over heels for it and wove a multi-layered meaning into these rings?*
I suspect that whoever created this bill made a translation mistake because—plot twist—the Japanese language doesn't have a plural form for nouns. Whether it’s ‘ring’ or ‘rings’, it's the same in Japanese. A counter is added to the word if the context requires specifying the number of items. No wonder fans in and outside of Japan got headaches over this!
So, the small but important bit that it’s a pair was likely lost in translation when this bill was created.
I hope I was able to debunk this myth and convey why we can safely say that these rings are a pair! If you know more about the spiritual background of omamori, the making of the scene in the shop, or the creation of the bill, please let me know!
* If you carefully read the interviews in which the rings are mentioned, you can infer some of these meanings (apart from the obvious one meaning).

"Why do American taxes pay for Israeli healthcare?"
You don't.
Israel's GDP, as of 2023, is 522.03 billion USD.
US aid is 3.6 billion USD in military aid, which can only be used to import US military equipment, and an additional 5.7 million USD. Totalling up to less than 4.7 billion USD, which is less than 0.9%.
The counterclaim of "since Israel was founded", The US has given Israel 300 billion USD since 1948. For most of those years, Israel was a buffer zone against USSR-backed Arab League states. Additionally, totalling Israel's GDP from 1948-1969, and then from 1995-2023(no data on the 70s, 80s or early 90s, so I'll just exclude it for the least flattering estimate possible), was a whopping total of 7 trillion USD. US military aid for a country that, for 43 years, was its buffer zone, is 4% of its total GDP, with most of it accounting for the Cold War era, before Israel's GDP soared from the stable 2-5 billion it was before 1969 to 62 billion in 1990.
Oh, and another thing:
Israelis have subsidized healthcare, education and so on. Not free. Israelis still have to pay for it.
In fact, do you know what really pays for Israel's (failed) welfare state?
Tumblr media
To translate to USD, everyone who makes under 23.5K pays 10% of their salary to taxes. Anyone who makes between that and 33K, 14%. The 20% bracket is up to 54K, the 31% - which in the US is reserved for the American who makes at least 191K, in Israel starts with a little over a fourth of that salary and ends with 75K. And though the US has more tax brackets past that, the Israeli who makes over 201K/year is considered the richest and has to shell out half of their salary for income taxes and social security alone. The average Israeli earns 159K(₪, 44.5K$), means they pay 20% taxes, while the average US citizen earns 59K, meaning they pay 22%, roughly equivalent.
Additionally, Israel's VAT tax is 17%, compared to the 2-7% of the US(varies by state). Vehicle tax in Israel is a whooping 60-84%, in comparison to the US's...Up to 8.25%? Are you guys fucking kidding me? Your cars are practically half free!
And back to the social security: You need a damn good reason to stop paying it. If you're unemployed with no income, you're still charged 194₪/54$ per month. The only ones NOT charged are retirees and the disabled.
So no, your tax money doesn't go to Israelis' welfare. It goes to your own military complex, which constitutes 80% of Israel's military imports.

On reflection, I don't want to just leave that as a reblog of bogleech, who doesn't respond to people who point out their errors. So let me separately encourage everyone to read
It can save you from making a lot of stupid claims about carceral policy.
ETA: editing your post to be slightly less wrong (but still plenty wrong) is a way of responding, I guess.

You don't need to freak out about benzene in dry shampoo
You don’t need to freak out about benzene in dry shampoo
There’s been another beauty product recall because of benzene. This time it’s dry shampoos produced by Unilever, including products from Dove, TRESemmé, TIGI and Suave. I’ve talked about benzene contamination in products before, specifically sunscreen. It’s a very similar situation this time. The key points: Benzene is not intentionally added to products. Rather, it’s a trace contaminant that’s…

"You can't save seeds from F1 hybrid plants! They'll just [magically] revert back to one of the original parent plants!"
And
"You can't save seeds from F1 hybrid plants! They're sterile, or will produce plants that can't produce fruit!"
Are both 100% myths by the way, perpetuated both by seed companies that profit off of telling you that you habe to buy seeds from them every single year if you want to grow food, and also people who just straight up have done zero research including a 2-second Google search, and don't know what they're talking about because they don't even actually know what a hybrid is in terms of plants.
In plants, hybrids are not like animals.
When people think of hybrids in plants, they're imagining some mad scientist creating hybrids of cats and dogs, or strawberries and pineapples, and gene splicing them together into some sterile monstrosity that will burn the other crops and poison the water supply and send a plague unto their houses--
When in reality
1) they're thinking of GMOs which are completely unrelated to hybrids
2) GMOs don't do that either
3) GMOs are not inherently bad, it's the capitalist peice of crap corporations that own them that are horrible, doing things such as donating seeds to nations hit by natural disasters, and then forcing them to buy seed from the company every single season and suing them if they tried to save seeds to grow their own food in a sustainable way
4) bouncing off of #3, you cannot buy GMO seeds as a home gardener. You can't even do it by accident, because you have to sign contracts for it and buy a few thousand at a time.
5) And no, you can't accidentally save seeds from GMOs either if you're saving seeds from grocery store produce-- you think companies that sue farmers for saving seeds are going to let their Patented Products hit store shelves in a way that anyone off the street that they can't track could save seeds from it?
Nope!
GMOs in the US are pretty much all going into processed foods, such as canned goods, sugar (sugar beets), corn starch and oil (corn), Cotton, and Canola. etc etc. There's also potatoes and papaya that have been genetically engineered to be more resistant to browning (a major point of food waste when it comes to potatos) and to resist viruses that can wipe out a crop, but again... You're never going to get these whole in the grocery store that you could plant them or save seeds from them, and if you did, the only thing you'd have to worry about is lawyers turning up on your doorstep.
6) as such, any seed company marketing their products as "non GMO gaurenteed!" Are trying to make money off of your ignorance. If their prices are exorbitantly high because they "test every seed for GMO" then they are scamming you.
8) hybrid plants are simply plants that have two different varieties as parents that were cross pollinated. Say I have a bell pepper, and I cross pollinate It with a Poblano.
The seeds I save from the bell pepper that came from the flower I pollinated with Poblano pollen are now hybrids. I plant those seeds, and all of the plants that grow are F1 plants which are going to be pretty stable and similar to each other, like how you and your full-blooded siblings all probably look very similar.
Now, when you save seeds from those F1 Bellano plants? That's where the traits and characteristics really start to get wild, and you start to get high variations between each seed grown, which is what will happen when you plant seeds you saved from an F1 hybrid.
Your job (fun experiment!) now is to grow out Multiple plants and save the seeds from the ones you like best, and grow those seeds out and select the best traits, season after season until they grow "true to seed", aka they grow out consistently every time without having to continue selecting specific traits to save seeds from.
This is how every single heirloom and open pollinated variety was born.
This is how you create brand new varieties.
This is how your grandparents and their grandparents and their grandparents all created the heirloom varieties we know and love today, handed down for generations of gardeners.
All this to say, I actually encourage you to save seeds from hybrids, because I encourage everyone to save seeds wherever you can! Saving seeds from hybrids is how new varieties are born, and allows you to create your own unique plants of your own, that are adapted to your growing environment.
Anyways, here's some comparison pictures of storebought Black Pearl F1, and my F2 plants I grew from my original plant last year (that did not succefully overwinter)
1) no longer dwarf, plant is much taller with larger leaves and larger fruit (fantastic as far as I'm concerned)
2) still has the bright purple flowers and dark leaves, the leaves are simply not as dark as the original so far.
As a last fun fact: all ornamental peppers are edible, they just won't have a lot of flavor and probably be just pure heart or be slightly bitter. Once they're red-ripe on the plant, you can harvest them, save the seeds, and dehydrate the flesh to grind into a spicy seasoning powder, good for adding a kick to ramen noodles :)

[ID: Five Images.
The first image is a picture of a Black Pearl F1 plant (Capsicum Annuum) which has jet black leaves, green new growth, and immature, round black peppers that ripen through green to eventually a bright red when fully mature, about the size of an M&M candy. A white hand is held behind two of the peppers for scale, showing how small they are.
The second image is of a cluster of immature peppers on a Black Pearl F2 (Capsicum Annuum) plant with a white hand behind it for scale. The peppers on the F2 plant are much larger and they are a dark, reddish purple while immature instead of black, about the size of a marble, around 2-3 times bigger than the mature F1 fruit, and still growing. The fruits grow in a cluster with black stems, and the visible leaves are all new growth, still bright green.
The third image is once again of the F1 plant, showing how small the pitch black leaves are, with a hand behind them for scale, the width of the leaves are barely wider than the average adults finger, and would barely extend past the first joint of your finger if you held the base of the leaf, with the tip pointing towards your palm.
The fourth image is of the F2 plant, showing just how much larger the leaves are compared to the F1: where the F1 plant was extremely tiny, the F2 has standard-sized pepper leaves, in this photo showing as almost covering three fingers and reaching the palm of the white hand holding them for scale. The color is also lighter, not jet black but still dark, on the F2 plants the green colors of the leaves is still clearly visible. Also visible above the example leaf are two bright purple flowers on branching stems, with bright green new growth coming up below them, and a few young flower buds in clusters.
The fifth image is of the mature fruit of the F1 plant behind held up next to the immature fruit of the F2 plant, showing the size difference: the mature red fruit of the F1 is about 4x smaller than the immature, still-growing purple fruit of the F2. End ID]

The Pandora’s Box: Understanding Human Suffering Pandora's Box is more than just an abstract myth or a container of misery and evil. What the box unlocked serves as a metaphor for the wretchedness that surrounds us while what caused it to unzip shows how weak we are. The myth also warns us that some mysteries are not meant to be solved. Some curiosities are not meant to be satisfied. It is better that such mysteries and curiosities remain tangled. Among Greeks, it was considered a popular myth used as an explanation and instruction regarding several misfortunes suffered by humans. Through this article, you will be taken through the story of this myth and be able to unravel the symbolic messages hidden within. https://www.beyondthepunchlines.com/understanding-the-significance-of-pandoras-box/ #mythology #myths #greek #greekmythology #stories #suffering #humans #humanity #pandora #understanding #understand #interestingfacts #writing #blogging #blogposts #articlewriting #article #mythbusting #mythologie https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc91kG0Kps6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

You know, that Mythbusters post legitimately changed my life. Before seeing it, I had exponentially more guilt and stress about not being able to sleep, which of course, further exacerbated my inability to sleep.
Now, every time I wake up about three am, knowing I have to get up at 6.45, instead of stressing and panicking about how my day is going to be sleep deprived and miserable, I just tell myself 'Time to activate Mythbusters Protocol' and lie there with my eyes closed safe in the knowledge that I am measurably reducing later feelings of exhaustion.
And when this happens, about 70% of the time the reduction of guilt and stress means I actually do fall back asleep, so all in all instead of getting only three or four hours sleep, I get five to six and a half.
Which y'know, major improvement in health and energy.
