Headcanon - Mystic Gohan
There used to be a question about how Gohan's "Mystic" power up used to work, the one he got during the Buu Saga.
People theorized that MORE hidden power had built up in Gohan after Namek. Or that he had to lose his Super Saiyan transformation to obtain the Mystic power up. (That would explain why he never transformed when fighting Super Buu.)
I think the Official answer is that Guru had unlocked the hidden power of his Saiyan side, while Elder Kai unlocked the hidden power of his HUMAN side. (Which would line up to why he didn't transform)
So here's MY headcanon explanation about Mystic Gohan. What Elder Kai brought to the surface was the "hidden power" of Super Saiyan 2.
Let me explain, it's very simple. Gohan just has trouble accessing his SSJ2 transformation after 7 years of Peace. (None of the movies count, keep that in mind.) He never really needed to train with it, so he finds it very difficult to find the clarity / rage to tap into that form. (He did transform when Videl was being beaten up, but I don't think even he was aware of his own transformation.)
The mystic power up allowed him to access all of his power without having to rage out, so there's no need to transform.
Although, I also imagined that it was a TEMPORARY power up. It took 20 hours to access, maybe it lasted 20 hours, too. That would explain why he would transform again in the future.
(The official stance is that he got to KEEP his Mystic Power up, he's just incredibly out of practice at the start of DBS.)
I still haven't seen Dragon Ball : Super Hero, so I don't know the deal with Beast Gohan.

i have so many thoughts about gohan and goten its kind of unreal
