Refining the Mantle
Myelination– the insulation of nerve cells with a lipid-rich sheath – performed by oligodendrocytes in response to needs of developing or remodelling neural circuits is fine-tuned morphologically by calcium signalling

Loa Star Wars!!! Outlaw Myelin!!!!!!
Kinda spoilers for arc 2 of icebound but info under cut
he’s an outlaw and wanted by the republic but he’s very skilled at avoiding them. Since he travels a lot he’s obtained numerous amounts of contacts in different parts of the galaxy. Like daisy he can’t speak and has the scar on his neck, he also uses hand codes to communicate through it seems that the bounty hunters after him tend to blast first and ask questions later.
Myelin used to be an admiral in the republic’s army so he could stay close to Daisy, since Myelin didn’t let the Jedi take her willingly. Myelin was then framed for tampering with classified documents and possibly killing a fellow officer, so now he’s on the run and travelling with his eldest daughter Honey!

The difference in signal transmission speed between myelinated and non myelinated nerves has long been known. The recent discovery that myelin cells are much more than electrical capacitors but constitute a chemical sensory signal transmission ability equivalent to the traditional sensory nervous system. Subsequent research on the novel sense suggest that early cessation of myelin coverage of afferent sensory nerves are related to increased risk behaviour in young adults and is associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality, serial unsuccessful relationships and a higher incidence of irresponsible and anti social behaviours.
The findings question conventional social structures and education systems, but most disconcerting of all allude that legal age conventions are coincidental to both the former as well as the causes of early cessation of afferent neurocortex sensory nerve bundles. Given that the normal cessation of myelin sheath coverage occur after twenty three years of age, the countries arguing for a lowering of the legal age of consent are not only guilty of causing harm to the young adult population, but inadvertently aggravating the already high prevalence of early onset of cognitive decline, dementia and late stage fallout of developmental milestones that are all associated with early cessation of coverage.

Ancient viruses that infected vertebrates hundreds of millions of years ago played a pivotal role in the evolution of our advanced brains and large bodies.
Next, they searched for RetroMyelin-like sequences in the genomes of other species, finding similar code in jawed vertebrates – fellow mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians – but not in jawless vertebrates or invertebrates.
This led them to believe the sequence appeared in the tree of life around the same time as jaws, which first evolved around 360 million years ago in the Devonian period, called the Age of Fishes.

#chronisch #Diagnose #Entzündliche_Krankheit #Forschung #Gehirn #Multiple_Sklerose #Myelin #Neuronen #Neurowissenschaft #Sklerose #Vermehrung

wait so what else is up with awoken amethyst besides the reflection thing
oh boy oh boy oh boy do I have an essay for you! it's mostly irl nerd stuff, but!!
Awoken amethyst is nothing like amethyst from Earth! Actual amethyst is almost always purple [but can have blue as a secondary hue], usually has color zoning and belongs to the hexagonal crystal family. Awoken amethyst is blue, has no color zoning, and has a pentagonal structure [which doesn't occur naturally]. Also, a lot of it hums and glows!
It is so unlike actual amethyst that it has been compared to a variety of other gems/minerals, including azurite, fluorite, tanzanite, sodalite/lapis lazuli and agate. So far, the Oracle Engine seems to be the main exception:

"But some of it looks purple. Why is that?" Good question! From what I've seen, it comes down to lighting and backlighting. In the Confluence and Blind Well, Awoken amethyst looks purple in the shadows but is blue when you step back. In The Corrupted strike and seasonal areas like the Coil, it's the opposite - it's purple from afar yet blue up close. The Last Wish raid shows it in purple backlighting at first, before giving way to its true color (blue).
Something something "nothing is as it seems," I suppose.

There is one more exception besides the Oracle Engine, however. And I think it's an interesting one. At the very back of Harbinger's Seclude, by the statue of the first Awoken queen Alis Li, the arches are clearly purple and resemble polished irl amethyst. What does it mean? I have no idea, I'm not a lore expert. But I wouldn't be surprised if it did mean something.
Tumblr media
Other than that, I only know the standard lore stuff about Awoken amethyst. It's a symbol of Awoken royalty, it can be created thru Awoken favor, Techeuns use it to enhance their powers, it was once given as diplomatic gifts to Eliksni, so on and so forth. And yes, Mara did wish for the Dreaming City to be built out of amethyst.
Being a rockhound and aspiring mineralogist [and Awoken lore enthusiast], I'm always on the lookout for amethyst-related lore, but this is all I've got at the moment lol. Also I don't know if I actually answered your question but thank you for the Ask!!
Here is a screenshot of my Hunter as a token of my appreciation:

Schwann’s Way Forward
Growing myelinating Schwann cells – cells of the nervous system that insulate neurons with a fatty coating called myelin – and neurons together in a dish is a common technique in the neuroscience lab for studying eg. repair after nerve injury. Here, a new co-culture method incorporating microfluidic chambers that enables the different cell types to be separately manipulated, reveals Schwann cells break up, ingest and clear debris

LOA Star Wars!!! Last of the Daisy fam for now with Outlaw Honey!!
Info under cut
she’s an outlaw along side her father but she’s not as wanted, which works to her advantage. Like her father and sister she can’t speak and communicate through hand codes. She was a pilot for the republic for a time and was in yellow squadron and from that she formed a very good friendship with Queenie, which helped when things went to shit. She’s a very good pilot and also a very good shot with her blaster.
Honey had one very close encounter with death the day that her and Myelin escaped coresacant, with the help of Queenie, she fully recovered though. Now while her dad runs from bounty hunters and looks for a a way to clear his name; Honey is looking for her sister, she’s heard rumours of a young Jedi girl looking for Myelin and she’s hoping it’s Daisy.
