actually im gonna keep making posts complaining about steve’s characterization in volume 2 because it was genuinely awful.
for one, i think he Maybe spoke one word to dustin personally. he didn’t hug him or anything before leaving him to a dangerous situation, didn’t comfort him after eddie’s death, and just straight didn’t show any concern for him at all. that’s not a steve harrington thing. that’s just bad writing. volume 1 steve would be murdering volume 2 steve.
on the topic of eddie, there was no point in having steve tell him “don’t be a hero” before everything happened and then Not show steve’s reaction to him going out and doing just that: being a hero and dying for it. it’s lazy writing to start something and not show the outcome. maybe the duffer brothers were afraid people would keep pushing the steddie agenda. they’re cowards.
steve’s interactions with robin were just whatever. he let her run up ahead without any concern for her when they were LITERALLY IN THE UPSIDE DOWN just so he could have a dumb, out of character conversation with nancy. definitely a Choice!
and then literally don’t even get me fucking started on him and nancy. im a stancy hater because i will never get over season 2. this season has been trying so hard to force a stancy renewal that it’s kind of funny? there’s no reason for it literally at all. having steve talk about his six dream kids with nancy was so WEIRD. Where did that come from. How is steve still not even slightly over nancy. This is so bad. It’s so bad. I don’t blame nancy for getting super weirded out. can you even imagine being in that situation. What is wrong with the duffer brothers.
overall: They butchered my boy. Let him move on from Nancy. Let him be the bisexual he deserves to be. Give him more actual character development. Let him have a very very very near death experience. It was nothing but wasted potential to make his storyline so boring in volume 2.

illicit affairs - rwrb
Dear H,
I never really understood why people say that being away from their partner felt like they were missing half of themselves, or that there was something empty in their lives until they reunited.
I get it now.
I feel like half my soul is on the other side of the ocean, and I don’t know how to stop feeling the ache of missing you. I wish I could bring you out here, show you the States through my eyes and not the bullshit royal agenda they craft every time you’re here. I think I’d take you to the Grand Canyon, and watch you as you watch the sun rise over the canyon. Your face lit with the warm golden light, sweetheart, I know there’s going to be nothing like it.
I miss you so much, H, and I can’t wait to see you again.
I love you.
– A

A,
Do let me know when you’re back in town, dear. I will make some time to see you.

“What?” TK tries to play it off as confusion, but he knows he isn’t fooling anyone, least of all Judd.
“How long, TK? We ain’t playing this game today. How long have you been using again?”
TK sighs, picking at his hospital bracelet. “Since Carlos left.”
Judd swears under his breath. “Two months? You’ve been using two months, and I didn’t fucking notice. I knew something was wrong, but I thought you were just depressed after everything. I should have known better.” Judd looks so guilty, and TK can’t handle it.
“No, you shouldn’t have. I made sure you shouldn’t have. I hid it really well, Judd. You couldn’t have known, Judd, because I made sure you didn’t. This isn’t your fault. This is mine.” TK rushes through it, making sure Judd actually hears him. He waits a minute before asking in a small voice, “Does Carlos know? Has he been by?”
Judd’s lips press into a straight line, and TK immediately knows the answer. “No one’s been able to reach him, TK. He went to the event alone, shut his phone off and went into a meeting. He hasn’t come out yet.”
Agent Reyes
Marjan smiles tiredly, sipping at the mug of coffee Nancy hands her. “Babe, I think coffee is the last thing I need right now, but thank you. I love you very much,” she says while pressing the mug into Carlos’s hands, “but Paul and Carlos are going to play now. We,” Marjan says, pulling Nancy close, “are going to go to bed now. ” Judd whistles from where he is in the kitchen, drawing a laugh out of everyone in the room.
Nancy wraps her arms around Marjan in reply, “You heard her, gentlemen. I will be taking my girlfriend to bed now, and I expect no interruptions. My girlfriend needs her beauty sleep.”
TK sits in the chair Marjan left vacant, holding a legal pad and a pen in one hand and a plate of avocado toast in the other. “I figured you’d want to take notes, and you also didn’t eat dinner last night.”
Carlos snorts before he can stop himself, “They were burnt, TK. I was not going to eat burnt grilled cheeses, no matter how hungry I was.”
“Hey,” TK says indignantly, although there’s a small smile playing on his face, “they were not burnt, they were just …well done.”
“Well done? It’s not a steak, TK. It’s a sandwich.”
“Yeah, well it’s the way my dad used to make them…” TK’s eyes widen as he realizes what he said, a silence falling across the room. TK’s face cracks open as he realizes that he used past tense while referring to his father and Carlos takes a step forward, his motions aborted when he realizes he can’t send mixed signals like that.
Not when TK is so vulnerable.
i'm gonna tag @theghostofashton, @detective-giggles, @lightningboltreader, @lemonlyman-dotcom, @mikibwrites @freneticfloetry, and @hoko-onchi-writes!
(if any rwrb authors end up on this, please let me know! looking for some rwrb moots <3)

Tumblr media
The third time Steve Harrington saw you he made plans to see you a fourth time. At his house, where he lives.
He was not sure what came over him, what part of you offset his boyish charm, his ability to think, to speak, to breathe.
You made him nervous.
You made him want to be around you all the time. You made him want to make dumb jokes every second just so you would smile at him.
And he’d dated girls, he knew the ropes, tied them himself. Knew what lines made girls blush or prompted praise or were too clever not to get him a date.
But you scared him, just a little bit. After he got his heart broken by Nancy, he thought he’d learned how to protect himself, so he’d never feel hurt like that again. Steve didn’t know if he could handle that.
Even so, there was a bigger part of Steve that was made brave by you. The part that would do anything to make you laugh or added you to the list of people he would die trying to protect.
There was something he couldn’t name, an affection, something in his chest saying,”this could be right, i think this could be right for me.” and it filled him with something warm and bright and overflowing; which also incited him to rent the tape for Weird Science in preparation of your movie night.
—————-
You haven’t stopped pacing for the past 20 minutes. Not since Steve invited you to watch a movie he likes at his house, where he lives.
Somehow, you ended up in Nancy’s bedroom. The entirety of the past hour was a jumbled blur and you weren’t exactly sure how you ended up there at all; had you driven? No, no you’d taken Mikes bike back, of course, the bike you hadn’t exactly asked to take.
There was one something or rather someone that remained clear in your head. You remembered Steve, him warm and dangerously beautiful, you couldn’t recall anything you said to him but you were sure it was something embarrassing, that was the only way you could to justify the butterflies that lingered in your belly.
Maybe it was a bad idea to go, maybe he’d see you and think no, whatever light I saw inside her is fleeting, she left and returned and she will leave again.
Or maybe he was in fact too good to be true. He was painfully gorgeous, possibly an undead creature of some sort, a vampire or siren? Maybe you were falling straight into his unhinged jaw, straight into his coffin, his awaiting green arms.
You’d told all this to Nancy of course; the soundly blue bird on your shoulder, your rock, your gravity, anchor, etcetera.
However, right now she was nothing short of ill-disposed.
“I don’t understand why your freaking out Bee, he asked you to come see him at work and you did. Now he’s asking you to come over and watch a movie so your going to do that, what’s the big deal?”
“No, I just- Steve, he-,” You throw your arms around wildly like your trying to catch the words you need out of the air, “He’s like a mirage, it’s like, I get to Hawkins, and I’m in the desert right, and I’ve been walking forever and it’s super hot, And I look and I see an oasis, and it’s amazing and there’s water and plants and it’s great. and I try to drink the water, but i’m really just eating handfuls of sand Nance, don’t you see, sand. And then I die of dehydration from the salt concentration IN the sand and- god what am I gonna do.”
Nancy is still sitting on her bed watching you like your something funny, she wonders when you started talking with your hands.
“So- you’re saying Steve is the salt?” She says slowly.
“No! No- i’m saying he’s the illusion Nance, he’s like the pretty oasis that’s really just more sand.”
She makes a face.”Steve is not sand Bee, he’s my friend and I think he likes you and I think you like him and you know if I didn’t trust him he’d be well and gone from my life let alone be anyone in yours, you’re going.”
You stop pacing to face her, your lips spreading slowly in an unconvincing grin, you were afraid she’d say that. “Actually, we’re going..”
Nancy stares at you and your stupid jazz hands with wide eyes. You start talking before she can express her dismay, “Before you say anything Robin was there when me and Steve were talking so just maybe I said that you would come too and just maybe Robin jumped on the idea and was really excited that you were gonna be there because you are going- we’re going to Steve’s house to watch some stupid movie tonight okay. And if you refuse then there’s no way I’m going without you.”
Nancy stops chewing on her lip to open her mouth, close it, then open it again.
“Okay.” She says it slowly, drawing out the syllables like she’s giving herself one last chance to chicken out, but she doesn’t. And she’s made the choice to be brave, you both have.
Twin smiles grow slowly on both your faces, until your both giving into that urge and she’s yelling out her excitement and you can’t help jumping up and down.
You’re both too excited to notice Mike swing the door open, begin to say something, then shut his mouth; watching you both for a moment before closing the door shaking his head muttering,”girls.”
——————
Steve has been staring at his drive way for the past 15 minutes.
It took Robin 16 to throw a crumpled popcorn wrapper at his head.
“Stop worrying Steve.” Her voice is half teasing but not unkind. “They’re coming.”
“But what if they aren’t?” He hasn’t stop frowning out the window.
Steve feels her come to stand next to him and place an uncharacteristically gentle hand on his shoulder, “You told her to come at 7, it’s 6:53.” His eyebrows remain pinched. “Didn’t you say she got lost on her way to Family Video? She’s probably on her way right now lost in the maze that is your secluded neighborhood.”
“She doesn’t have a car, she’d come with Nancy, who always comes early and knows exactly where I live.” Robin stiffens behind him and he turns his head to look at her. “Don’t tell me you’re nervous too.”
“Steeve,” She groans and drops her head,”You know how much I like her. She’s so pretty and smart and perfect, and I’m so-.” She waves her hands around huffing.
They both frown at each other, two rain clouds hovering above an unsuspecting town.
Steve is dubious crossing his arms,”Robin, don’t knock yourself, you’re a super cool person, I know Nance sees that too.”
Her frown wanes slowly until she’s smiling and jabs him with her elbow,”I think Bee has made you soft.”
He rolls his eyes fondly, “Real nice Robin. Thanks for ruining our sweet moment.”
She bumps his shoulder with hers,”Hey dingus you know I love you.” Steve shakes his head but not his smile.”I’ll tell you what, 20 bucks if they’re not here in 5 minutes.”
As she speaks Steve watches a yellow light slowly color her face and he glares at her, “You’re evil you know that.” She holds her hand out and he brushes past her. “I did not agree to that bet!”
He comes to stand behind his door, taking one, two big breaths.
“I got this, I’m Steve Harrington, I’m king.”
“Nice pep talk dumbass.”
“Shut up.”
Steve opens the door.
Nancy stands there, smiling brightly, and he has no reason to be surprised as he is.
She’s pink in the face and glances behind him about 30 times in the 30 seconds of silence his shock serves him. He can see her small tells for how nervous she is, the way she plays with her fingers to stop them shaking and the twitch of her mouth, so very quickly he wraps her in a hug.
“Hey Nance,” He rubs her back and she hums a hi back at him.
Then he sees you. Standing behind her in a pretty blue dress, shining at him, the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.
Steve lets Nancy go and he can’t think to close his open mouth.
“Hi.” You’re breathless, and he’s glad you feel whatever it is too.
It’s amazing he’s able to say it back because right now Steve’s thoughts are exclusively on he question of how someone could look so gorgeous under his dingy porch light.
You’re amazed you are still standing up right. The way Steve’s looking at you makes your knees weak; you can feel all the blood rushing to your face, all the air in your lungs, like you’ve been struck by lightning and are now overly aware of your body.
The lightning bolt himself moves out of the doorway and you walk into his house.
You blink away the bright lights and then Steve, the brightest light of them all, is standing front of you again.
He puts his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “Do- do you want anything to drink? I’ve got juice, water, beer, coke, whatever you want.”
You look around the room slowly,”Uh, do you have anything.. um stronger?”
Something in his eyes shines, something like bewilderment that quickly melts into amusement.
His lips curve upward,”Follow me.”
Steve starts walking through his house and you spare a glance at Robin and Nancy who are standing an uncomfortable distance apart and both individually giving you a thumbs up.
You breathe out through your mouth and follow him.
He takes you to a wine cabinet, mahogany wood with intricate detailing on the corners, locked by a small keyhole and full of the nicest looking alcohol you’ve ever seen. Steve picks up a flower pot of daisies sitting on a stool nearby. You try not to think about how big his hand looks around its neck. He takes the key from under it and unlocks the cabinet, turning around to smile at your stunned expression.
He makes a hand waving gesture and your eyes can’t help following it,”Pick your poison.” Taking a step forward, you run your fingers over the bottle necks and halt suddenly on bottle of vodka.
Steve chokes on a laugh and you turn to him with your eyebrows raised. “Nothing, just- Smirnoff that’s uh, not what I was expecting.”
You tilt your head at him,”What do I not seem like a Vodka girl to you Steve?”
He blushes,”No, I- I didn’t mean, It’s not that I just-“
Your snickering laugh stops him,”I get it. Now where are your shot glasses?”
Two shots get knocked back in the minute it takes you to pour them. Steve watches you intently, half amazed and half concerned with your eagerness to be tipsy.
You notice the frown he didn’t realize he was making and bite your lip. “I’m sorry, I just.” You again look for the words,”I think, tonight, I need to be brave.”
A flicker in his eye, a light lit then immediately extinguished returns far brighter. “Oh.” He breathes.
Steve’s mouth makes the shape of a small smile and you follow him to the living room where Robin was bringing Nancy a bag of freshly made popcorn.
The couch was generously big enough for all four of you, but there was a suffocating hesitation present in everyone tonight, the air thick with it.
Tonight you will be brave
You sit next to next to Nancy on the middle of the couch, looking between Steve expectantly and the free spot next to you.
He takes the hint.
Suddenly you’re noticeably warmer. You think it’s incredible how hot his body must run, and how nice it feels to be sitting next to him.
Steve is nervous. When did his palms get so sweaty? He wipes them on his jeans. You smell so nice, like vanilla and something floral, he takes a deep breath in.
“Robin.” Did his voice just crack? He hopes you didn’t notice. “Can you start the movie.”
She looks at him, clearly trying to non verbally convey a message that Steve is too dazed to understand,”Sure, Steve.” She says through gritted teeth.
————-
At minute 20 of the movie it was dead silent.
Well not exactly, there was the white noise of the droning movie from Steve’s television. The only other sound was Robin trying and failing to quietly eat the popcorn she made.
Both you and Nancy were leaned forward staring attentively at the screen. Steve kept sparing glances at your expression, watching to see if you laughed at the jokes he thought was funny, cringed at the parts he thought were dumb, you did.
But the silence was getting to him. Was it bad he invited you to his house to watch a movie in silence? You could’ve gone to the theatre, he would’ve taken you there, would’ve done anything you asked.
Steve watched as Robin tried to minimize the sound of her eating by chewing more slowly, but that only prolonged the noise.
He leaned back against the couch and tried to get her attention. He opened his mouth to whisper, but caught himself when he realized just how close his mouth was to your ear, in that same moment you shivered at the feeling of his hot breath on your skin.
He opted for leaning father over the back of the couch and hitting her with his outstretched fingertips.
Robin held her arm protectively and glared at Steve.
He mouthed,”Kitchen.”
“What?”
“Kit-chen.”
She gave him a confused look but nodded clearing her throat,”Me and Steve, we are going to uh girl talk- not girl talk- Steve’s not a- I mean like talk about girls, not you girls! Just girls, conceptually, in general?” The screen catches her eye. “Like this lady, what’s her deal right?”
You don’t turn away from the television, “Well, she’s like a robot kind of person that the two boys created with their computer by hacking into government databases.” You look at Robin and smile,”She’s like Frankenstein’s monster.”
Robin returns your smile and slowly backs away until she’s out of view. Steve quickly takes his leave as well and follows her to the kitchen where he finds her sitting on the ground still eating the popcorn she made.
“Frankenstein’s monster if he was a super hot mom, this movie is awesome.”
Steve crouches down to sit next to her,”I’m glad you think so.
She turns her body to face him,”What’s up Steven?”
“Do you think they’re having fun? Nobody saying anything is kind of freaking me out.”
“Hey, hey, Id be more bothered if they were talking during the movie. Bee is only watching it because you said you liked it, she’s watching it for you Steve. I think it’s sweet how much she’s invested.”
Steve hadn’t considered that, if he was honest he wasn’t as passionate for the movie as he was for hanging out with you. It was more an excuse to spend time with you.
His heart was warm. Robin leaned against him,”Alright captain what’s our next move?”
“I think we should talk to them, alone, separately. I think you need to tell Nancy how you feel.”
Robin laughed disbelieving,”That’s a pretty big step especially for me. You do know it took me 6 months longer than all the other babies to walk.”
“That explains a lot- Ow!” Robin pinched his arm. “Where have your baby steps gotten you up to now?” She glares at him and his stupid rationality and Steve catches onto her hesitation. “You only have to be brave once. Just for a moment, and then everything will work itself out.”
“You’re sure?”
“How could it not? Think of everything that’s happened in just the past year, and here we are watching a movie with the girls we like, we’ve survived being captured by Russians, you can survive an honest conversation Nancy Wheeler.”
“Have you seen her with a gun??”
Steve laughs, it’s easy,”You’re just lucky you haven’t been on the other end of Nancy with a gun.”
They came back into the living room just in time to hear your whispering conversation with Nancy abruptly end. Both of you sitting up unnaturally straight up with sheepish expressions at being caught.
“How did your girl talk go?” You ask and you mean it.
Robin holds her hands intertwined in front of her, “Um, well I think that I need to talk to a certain girl, outside maybe, if she doesn’t mind.”
Nancy is flushed, unusually still and gazing at Robin with shiny eyes. They stare at each other for a moment then Nancy breathes,” Okay.”
You watch your best friend stand, shaking slightly, you watch Robin open the door for her, watch the two girls float after each other.
The cushion shifts slightly as you feel Steve sit down next to you.
“I think she really likes her.” You think out-loud, you’ve never seen Nancy like that, light like that.
“Yeah-“ He pauses, “Wait, how do you know Robin likes Nancy?”
You completely turn around to face him, knee knocking his. “Robin likes Nancy! That’s the best news I’ve heard since-“ It’s hard to think when Steve’s looking at you like that, like you’re golden.
He grins at you,”I’ll bet you 20 dollars they get together by the end of the night.”
You raise an eyebrow grinning,”By the end of this movie.”
“Oh you are so on.”
Eyes twinkling, locked in on each other. And neither of you can remember what you were talking about, Steve’s thinking about your eyes and what the something he doesn’t recognize that flashes in your eyes could be.
“What?”
Twisting the ring on your index suddenly becomes terribly interesting ,”Nothing it’s just, uh,” You look at your hands in your lap.”You’re not really the Steve Nancy wrote to me about.
His expression flickers from something dejected to more thoughtful. “I- uh, well the past few years have, have really changed the way I live. The people I’ve met, these people I love, they help me grow and be better, and I’m still growing and learning, everyday, and I’m so thankful for all these people for helping me find my way, especially Nance.” Steve scratches the back of his neck,”I was alone for a lot of my life, I had all these friends that didn’t care about me or just liked me for my name. And well, the old parents were never around to begin with so I just thought- I just thought I could get away without needing anyone. But the people in my life are everything to me, they mean everything to me and I’m very lucky to be where I am. So yeah, I’m not him, but if I needed to be him to be who I am now then I’m glad.”
He looks up to see you looking at him so affectionately, he blooms like a daisy under your stare.
Steve wasn’t expecting you to kiss him on the cheek, but now you have he’s sure there’s nothing sweeter.
He grins smugly but his blush gives him away, his eyes drop to your lips.
Steve feigns a yawn only to stretch so he can place one arm behind you on the back of the couch. You give him an unimpressed look, “Real smooth honey.”
He’s glowing, he leans his face closer to yours,”Honey? I like that.”He is still staring at your mouth,”The Bee and her Honey.”
A whisper, “Can I kiss you?”
A smile,”Please do honey”
Outside by the pool, Nancy and Robin are smiling at you through the window, fingers intertwined, standing closely together, shoulders brushing.
Nancy curses.
“What?”
“I bet Bee $20 that I would kiss you before she kissed Steve.”
Robin laughs, Nancy’s favorite sound,”Well I can’t fix that, but I think I can help with something else.”

what do you think chrissy would think of the other party members and how she interacts with them?
Nancy: Starting with Nancy because I feel like she is the one who Chrissy would know the most before, since they’re both pretty popular and in the same grade. I’m actually going to headcanon that they were best friend (or close friends) in elementary and part of middle school but drifted apart. So when Chrissy joins the hawkin’s party, the both of them are really happy to rekindle their friendship.
Robin: I’m honestly not lying when I tell you if we had gotten even one intersection between them I would’ve been their biggest shopper, the only reason I’m more tame is because I have to imagine their dynamic and all their interactions, but if I didn’t actually have to put effort into imagining and I had it right there in front of me you would’ve completely lost me. So it’s difficult to talk about them without my shipping goggles because I just imagine Robin being completely in love with Chrissy and Chrissy being one of the only party members that actually tolerates Robin’s rambling and actually finds it endearing and she is constantly holding her hand in the upside down because she knows that Robin said she has trouble with her balance so she wants to make sure she feels safe but also holding Robin’s hand brings Chrissy comfort too, so it’s a win win.
Steve: First let me just get it out there that I headcanon that Chrissy would’ve had a crush on Steve when he was a senior, since he was one of the most popular boys in school and he’s really nice. But that’s when she was like 16 years old and she’s completely over it now but she mentions it in passing and Eddie thinks he’s got to compete with Steve now but if he should be worried about anyone it’s Robin (I’m sorry I’m always pushing the buckingham agenda I can’t help it) anyway Steve and Chrissy would be besties. The two popular kids who always felt more comfortable and accepted by the “nerds and freaks” (cue a simultaneous offended “heyyyy!!” from Eddie, Dustin and Robin)
Dustin: She loves him straight away, who wouldn’t? He’s the best character ever, impossible to dislike. She becomes yet another one of his adopted parents or older siblings (whichever you prefer) and while Eddie and Steve have the divorced parents dynamic, Chrissy is definitely his favourite. She’s constantly making sure he is okay and while Steve and Eddie are ganging up and calling him a butthead, she’s defending him.
Max: Max just got herself a new big sister. Since Chrissy and Max are going through the exact same thing, they’re literally the only other person each of them can talk to who fully understands what they’re going through and how they’re feeling. So I imagine that they have a lot of quiet talks alone and are constantly checking in on each other. But it also let’s them feel brave, for each other, because they don’t want to say that they feel like they might die in front of the other because they don’t want to scare each other so it allows them both to be hopeful and optimistic. Chrissy is the only person not from the OG party that Max writes a letter for.
Lucas: Oh boy the conversation they would have about Jason. As someone who considered him a friend, maybe even idolised him a little bit and someone who dated him but both eventually realised he isn’t as great as he seems, they’ll be able to relate to each other over that. I think it might be Lucas who would encourage Chrissy to go for it with Eddie because he tells her how awful he has felt since he’s lost Max and he tells her how much he wants her back, so Chrissy makes it her mission to try and get the two of them back together.

hi! do you have any ronance + elmax headanons? <3
HELL YEAH!! ALSO YOU ARE AMAZING THANK YOU FOR THE RONANCE PROMPT IVE BEEN DYING TO RAMBLE ABOUT THEM OMG I LOVE YOU <3
ok so onto the hcs (yeaahh)
robin and max hang out and talk about their crushes a lot and robin ADORES having someone like girls in the same way she does. but straight boy solidarity is great, steve! (ik hes bi obviously it just hasnt clicked yet)
nancy is a journalist with insane instincts, so she was bound to pick up on elmax eventually
robins already out to nance and the party at this point so nancy just mentions it casually in conversation
"hey, do el and max like each other"
robin doesnt have a filter so she just blurts out "wait max told you??"
"...no. i guessed"
and thats how ronance teams up in trying to set elmax up. as if theyre so amazing at confessing to their crushes *hint hint*
ronance = maxs moms = encouraging max to ask el to be her gf near constantly <3
its so silly bcs they dont realize theyre making eyes at each other instead of keeping tabs on elmax and making sure everything is going according to plan
max knows. she knows everything 100% and she keeps thwarting their plans like the self sabotaging bitch she is (rip)
el asks her out first.
she goes to robs bcs she knows robin likes girls and is just like her <3 and they come up with a plan for el to ask max out
she does and their first date is a picnic fuck you i will never give up the elmax/elumax picnic first date agenda
nancy helps el pick out something cute to wear (disclaimer: el is fucking adorable in everything she wears. its all cute.)
they laze around and el appears in her mind so max can see her when she kisses her for the first time <3
max and el are super bouncy and happy next time they talk to ronance and robin and nancy clap for them and get just as excited, if not more
ronance with that sense of "you only got your shit together because of us" high-fiving quote unquote, "subtly"
the roles reverse. el and max are the matchmakers now (+ steve bcs hes ronance truther #1 in my mind)
el using her powers to make them gravitate towards each other and them giving her death glares that say "what are u doing stop trying to set us up its obviously unrequited" and el just stares back like "girl wtf are you talking about??" while max gives them thumbs up and nods encouragingly while both robin and nancy think theyre being set up for rejection.
once nancy composes herself she power walks her ass over to robins house to tell her that el and max are trying to set them up
robin "what? no theyre not haha why would they do that its not like we like each other amiright? am. i. right." buckley and nancy "yeah ofc totally not. right. youre right." wheeler being kind of oblivious.
they get together when robin is just rambling about this book she read one day and she wont shut up and theyre sitting close enough that their sides are pressed together and their knees are in a perpetual state of bumping into each other and shes just so adorable and pretty and hot and nancy just cant resist
she grabs her face and kisses her
it takes a hot minute before she pulls away in mortification and robin starts talking. again.
"that was mind-blowing but if that was an experiment we can just forget about this. um. if it wasnt. id be surprised but...not opposed. at all. but thats not possible so anyways, my book was so-" ohmygodohmygodohmygodholyshitohmygodwhatthefuckohmygod

enabling the madness PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT GREYROMANTIC MIKE WHEELER NOW
In another episode of Robin (yes my name is Robin if you didn't know, but y'all can call me Nixie) spreading the Mike Wheeler aroace agenda: Reasons why I think Mike is greyromantic!
Again, this is going to be a bit summarized because I'm saving more detailed stuff for an actual post I want to do! I'll try to write here the important points, though <3
Btw, here's the first part of this little study!!
(Please keep arophobic comments to yourselves! Aromantic people can still date, it's a complex identity! And yes, I do still ship Byler even if I think Mike is aromantic).
Greyromantic: A common reason someone may identify as greyromantic is that they experience romantic attraction but very infrequently. Some greyromantic individuals may only feel romantic attraction once or twice in their life. Others may experience it more frequently, but still not as frequently as alloromantic individuals.
Just like I said on my post about Mike being asexual, I think he shows little to no interest in dating or falling in love. Especially for romantic cliche stuff. For starters, using the same argument I used for him being ace: Dustin and Lucas show interest in dating. I'm not talking about girls. I'm talking about dating. They are the type of kids who'd fight over the girl (Max, or even that princess from that game in the Arcade) while Mike doesn't give a fuck. He just doesn't care. My guy is just, not only vibing, but rolling his eyes at his allo friends.
Going back to what I said in my Ace post about Stancy: Mike shows so so much disgust when it comes to romantic stuff! And it's not only because Nancy is his sister, it's because he just doesn't see the appeal. He doesn't like it. He doesn't feel it. It's completely normal seeing s1 Mike react like that, especially when he isn't as repressed as he is in s3. He straight up expresses how little he feels connected to romantic love. And don't tell he that "he's just a kid- Kids say stuff like that" because I can confirm that the other two dumbasses love romance. Lucas is a gentleman and Dustin is a hopeless clingy romantic. Since s1. Mike just... Doesn't like it. And that's okay.
In s1 Lucas says something about Mike only liking El because she's the only girl who doesn't feel repulsed by him. And he's... He's completely right! Slay, Lucas. Slay. Because Mike doesn't show romantic interest for El! Like at all! He saw a lost girl as an opportunity to both find Will and feel like a normal kid, and he took it. Because he doesn't really like El romantically. As an aromantic person I can confirm with absolute certainty that Mike pushed himself to like El because everyone talked about crushes and girls and he... Didn't feel it. He felt like an outcast. And so he started to make himself think he liked El! I genuinely think Mike believes, at least in the beggining, that he likes her. He makes himself think that way, because Lucas won't stop saying he does. And Mike thinks "Well, maybe I do like her". When in reality is just the pressure of everyone asking him if he does. So he forces himself to see El romantically.
Nancy asks him if he likes El, and his immediate reaction is disgust. Like- I'm sure y'all will say it's just the way a kid would react, but he did it so quickly that it makes me think he actually meant it. But then he thought about Nancy's words and kissed El, because maybe liking her was the easy path. Been there, done that, tbh.
Season 3 is a rough time for Mike, really. Because he's clearly in love with Will and doesn't even have anything to compare his feelings to because he's never been in love! The only time he thought he was in love was with El, of course. And he doesn't feel that way for her. So the poor boy is confused because he doesn't know how romantic love actually feels, and it's for a BOY. His BEST FRIEND. It's tricky, man.
He confuses platonic love for romantic love, an experience every aromantic has been through. I do not recommend, tbh.
Mike spends all of s3 making out with El and trying to make things work after their fight because he doesn't know how to have a relationship. He only makes out with her because he doesn't know how to talk about feelings. What feelings, really? If he was actually in love with her, he could be all romantic and have serious emotional talks. But he can't. He hides himself behind kisses and make out sessions because he doesn't know how else love works or if he actually even loves El.
The kiss from the s3 finale says it all, I think. He's so, so awkward... He's clearly uncomfortable and when El tells him that she loves him? He just becomes paralyzed. And maybe I'm projecting too much, but I think that's the reaction all of us aromantics have whenever someone says those words to us romantically. The fear of not feeling the same. Of not being able to love that way. Of not being enough. My boy literally has an aromantic realization the moment El kisses him!
When s4 starts, he can't hide behind kisses now because it's all letters. And we don't see anything from his letters, but we do hear what El tells HIM which is all superficial information that has nothing to do with them being in love or missing each other. That probably means he's been doing the same thing, refusing to show emotions because he can't. Because he doesn't love El that way.
Look, I don't need to go too deep here: The whole thing about him not being able to tell her "I love you"? Queer coded af. Both gay and aro. It's literally my whole aromantic experience because you know you care a lot about that person but you don't love them. Not that way. And the mere thought of telling them makes you uncomfortable.
All s4 is what made me realize he was aro. Look at him struggling to tell his girlfriend that he loves her but still fighting for the relationship because he's scared of what would happen if he accepted himself for who he really is! Literally everything about Murray's monologue to Nancy also fits the aromantic agenda.
Okay, so about Will: Being greyro means you can fall in love. Just not as frequently as someone allo. And I'm a firm believer of Mike loving Will and only Will. And not because he's the love of his life or whatever (that too, tho) but because he just can't fall in love again. Mike loves Will and doing romantic stuff with him but wouldn't feel like that for anyone else. Or maybe he would, but again, it's a small possibility.
I can see Will, Lucas, Dustin, etc. Falling in love more times. Experiencing love in a romantic, allo way. Having crushes, too. However, I just can't see Mike doing it. I love polyam ships, but it's hard for me to picture Mike with somebody who isn't Will! And I'm a multishipper so... I just think he's aromantic. Greyro, to be precise.
I don't think I need to say anything else? s4 is enough proof but if you want to know more about aroace Mike just wait until I post my whole character study about it! <3

He's so pretty and the aroace flag looks so good on him I'm going to faint from gender envy-

I only ship ships that make sense to the narrative/plot of the show.
I ship byler cause it make sense narratively and I want Will to be happy.
I ship lumax cause they are adorable but I also ship Elmax cause hello season 3 was giving off vibes. However I WANT lumax to be end game!!
I shipped Chrissy and Eddie cause they had amazing chemistry.
I m torn between Stancy and Jancy cause the way the plotted that love triangle has me unsure what would be the better option for Nancy. On one hand Jonthan makes more sense, but they are lying to each other and she has hell chemistry with Steve so…
I ship Jobber cause they are perfect together.
I don’t ship Steddie cause I DIDN’T see anything other then one cheesy little remark.
I love robin but didn’t see anything from Nancy so I don’t ship Ronance.
I need more Vicky and Robin interactions to ship it though I want Robin to be happy.
I USED to ship Milkickyvan but stopped in season 3 cause its unhealthy and toxic.
So what I m saying with this post is unless the show gives you context to ship two characters I don’t do it. So for the Milkvan shippers who are harassing us bylers and are claiming we just want to spread the gay agenda or whatever bull crap. . Here is your proof. I m a bi person and I ONLY really support ONE gay ship on the entire show. LIKE SERIOUSLY I ship more straight ships then gay ones. So stop it with your homophobic “you just are spreading the gay agenda’ or my personal ‘Favorite’ “you just want to make all characters gay.

Happy holidays! What do you think each of the fruity four’s favorite Christmas songs are?
Okay I really had to think about this one because I am SO PICKY
Anyway!!
Robin, I think, would enjoy Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee. I think for one, she’s a lesbian that can appreciate this woman’s beautiful raspy voice. I think she’d like the saxophone, and I can just picture her singing it into a pen like a microphone to annoy Steve during a shift at Family Video in early December.
I’m spreading my Steve Harrington Wham! stan agenda. This man would CRY to Last Christmas. First of all, it could be him lamenting his failed relationship with Nancy (RIP), but also I can picture him singing into his hairbrush between doing his hair in the morning. He gets back at Robin by putting this song on repeat for a week straight.
Nancy I think would enjoy the classics. She’s difficult for me. Maybe I’m biased because of my fic, but I think she’d be a fan of Baby, It’s Cold Outside by Dean Martin. I know there’s arguments over the context and how it sounds like he’s coercing her into staying, but I think Nancy would be ALL OVER the conflicting analysis of that vs the “well she has to keep up appearances because she doesn’t want to be called a whore but she wants to stay” point of view. And she’s a secret hopeless romantic in my mind idc.
Eddie Munson my metal head beloved. This man would ROCK to Christmas Eve / Sarajevo by the Trans Siberian Orchestra. He performs it for the whole crew on Christmas and calls it the most metal Christmas carol ever. Steve and Dustin make fun of him for it. He does blow them all away though. Is there really any other correct answer?
I didn’t do my research on release dates, so definitely take these with a grain of salt lol.

June 3rd Annie on My Mind
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The cover of Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden. Two girls are having a picnic in the woods. In the background there is a river and dead trees. In the foreground are the girls looking at each other. One has long brown hair and a red sweater and the other has a blonde bob cut and a blue jacket. End ID.]
Trigger Warnings
Homophobia
But also for the review I will be mentioning homophobia surrounding the publishing of the book and censorship as part of the book's lasting impact.
Summary
Annie on My Mind is one of, if not the first, YA LGBT romance novels and also one of the first to have a happy ending. Liza and Annie meet by chance at a museum, and soon fall in love as they each balance figuring out their sexuality with their high school life and dreams for the future. Bookended by a college age Liza as she reflects on how she and Annie were torn apart, right as they have an opportunity to reunite.

Review
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A passage from Annie on My Mind which reads, "I went downstairs to Dad's encyclopedia and looked up HOMOSEXUALITY, but that didn't tell me much about any of the things I felt. What struck me most, though, was that, in that whole long article, the word 'love' wasn't used even once. That made me mad; it was as if whoever wrote the article didn't know that gay people actually love each other. The encyclopedia writers ought to talk to me, I thought as I went back to bed; I could tell them something about love." End ID.]
I think it's easy to look at Annie on My Mind today and consider it cliche, just another coming of age and out story. It's easy to accept that as a testament to the progress we've made in the 40 years since it was published. But its worth it to look back and examine Annie on My Mind on its own merits, distinct from the expectations of tired coming out narratives. Because as I said, it was published in 1982, right around the HIV/AIDS crisis and one of the most regressive periods for gay and trans rights in America, right ahead of today.
Annie on My Mind was unique, it was groundbreaking, an LGBT YA novel with a happy ending before YA was even considered its own category, before such books would be celebrated widely as steps forward instead of banned and publicly burned, leading to a censorship trial for simply existing in libraries. Which they won, and Annie on My Mind has continually been in print ever since. I think it's important to have that context behind the book, knowing that it was the first of its kind really.
And it's good! It's so good! It's sweet and real and reached so many young lesbians and bisexual women at a time where there was very little opportunities to find representation, especially happy representation and representation for LGBT teenagers. And it's mostly very lighthearted! Homophobia is a presence in the narrative, especially towards the end, but oftentimes Liza and Annie are alone, simply enjoying each other's presence without any kind of societal influence, any guilt. I chose the quote I did mostly because it's probably the most popular quote from the book, but also because that's often the approach Annie on My Mind takes to homophobia. It's a thing to be dismissed, because gay love is so much more important and powerful.
What I find really compelling about Annie on My Mind, especially compared to LGBT YA novels today, is its approach towards community. I find that in popular LGBT novels for teenagers today, only two LGBT characters exist in a sea of straight characters, a protagonist and their love interest. Think about I'll Give You the Sun, while the cast of Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda includes a bi girl the movie adaptation definitely does not, and its only other gay character is used as someone for Simon to measure himself against and has no bearing on the plot. In Annie on My Mind, Liza and Annie are really able to flourish while house sitting for Liza's teachers, Ms. Stevenson and Ms. Widmer. At first, the girls don't realize that the teacher are lesbians, they live together because they are partners. Liza and Annie aren't a gay island onto themselves, they have and older lesbian couple to guide them and eventually protect them at the end of the novel. You don't see that very often in LGBT media today, where the LGBT community seems to be a distant idea if it's even considered at all.

STRANGER THINGS SPOILERS AHEAD
I'm so beyond mad with Stranger Things right now, the cast, the writers, the propaganda and everything. Excuse me for the way I'm about to put my thoughts into words, both because English is not my mother tongue and because I'm very mad.
First thing, as a queer kid who grew up being in the dark, it burns me deeply what they did with both Will and Robin (as well as Eddie, yes, we all know and hoped for the bandana to be true, unless you are straight and delusional). I'm more enraged at the cast and writers than the story itself, because it was predictable, I'm mad at USING WILL'S SEXUALITY AS A HELP FOR THE PLOT. I'm mad at Natalia, which maybe it's not entirely her fault, for saying "There's some Nancy/Robin stuff going on..." and leading us to what we thought it'd be endgame or something. I'm also kinda annoyed at both Joe's for also leading us on, I had hope in both of them to do better than that. I'M ENRAGED at the fact that Robin's crush is exactly the same person as her, like WTF? You could've given her a unique personality.
And don't get me started on what they did to Eddie, sexuality aside, because I'm even more disappointed in it.
To end this I wanna say I'm not watching season 5 and for sure not giving this motherfuckers anymore of my income, they ruined a perfectly good show only to push their straight agendas all in our faces and used, dare I say fetishize, queer characters for their own personal benefits.
Stay safe everyone, gonna go read my steddie bookmarks.

You have become the Ronance mutual... enough so that I'm genuinely considering if I should watch the show.
i’ll take the ronance mutual badge of honor for spreading the ronance agenda lmao
if you haven’t watched the show at all, i’ll have you know that ronance is only so far in s4 since robin was introduced in s3 - in the best way because they deadass straightbaited everyone into thinking she’s going to get with a guy so for once the straights could know how it feels
now her and steve are the power duo of besties, the lesbian and a himbo with kids
back to ronance, i just can go on and on about why this ship makes the most sense instead of pairing nancy with steve who has already said he doesn’t have feeling for her anymore (not to mention that he liked robing because she wasnt nancy)
and for robin, it’s canon she has a crush on a girl named vickie but we deadass saw robin talk to her once in the entirety of vol1… while robin literally followed nancy around like a puppy and was paired with her the entire 7eps of vol1… not to mention she wore nancy’s BRA at one point
duffer brothers, which one do you think am i going to ship ???
tl;dr give my poor 80s lesbian a journalist girlfriend and let them be happy

I recently met a Black British Territorial United States woman who could not understand why having RFIDs implanted in our bodies like a permanent Bar Code on a product was not a good idea.
"It helped me find my dog," she said.
Yes, it tracks every dairy cow in America, too.
Are you an animal? That is, a mere human, a fictional creation, in a foreign caste system?
The owners, who all know the truth and who claim to be non-citizen men and women, want all their livestock identified..... so, which one are you?
Woman or animal?
Do you see why they call it the Mark of the Beast?
Because if you accept the mark, you are accepting the status of an animal.
It's not figurative.  It's not referring to Satan or some other "entity" as the Beast, as in the Beast marking you with a branding iron.
No, it's you self-identifying as a mere human and agreeing to stand in the capacity of an animal, allowing yourself to be tagged like an animal, that makes the RFID tag (or similar technology) the "mark" of the beast.
Is this really something you want to accept for yourself and impose on others, too?
Nah.
Didn't think so.
So, look at the Bar Association Members and politicians pushing this, and mark them for who and what they are.
Nancy Reagan was the best political leader in recent times, when she advised everyone to "Just Say No".
Say no and keep on saying it.  It's such a pleasant and useful word.
And if enough of us say it, altogether now, guess what?
Then it doesn't matter what the Beltway says or does.
The word "No!" spoken with clarity,  is our political leader and liberation front.  Never forget it.
The men who met in Philadelphia in 1776 were not united in any sense except that they all finally said no. No more King George.  No more caste system. No, we won't be labeled or treated as animals.
The delegates all came from vastly different cultural backgrounds and disparate climates.  The English Colonies butted up against Dutch Colonies, the  Protestants rubbed elbows with Catholics, rich Southern Plantation owners had to consult with smelly sailors. Jews had to agree with Muslims. It was a mess.
It still is.
In the end, we all said no ---and when the issues are stated clearly, we still do.
Quite apart from any connection to religion or Biblical prophecy, given a straight up choice between being treated as an animal or being treated as a man, what do you choose?
And if the sign of your choice, the brand as in branding iron, is an RFID chip and a Bar Code, as in American Bar Association, what do you say?
No.
We choose to live and be recognized as men and women, endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights.
Any offer to denigrate us was unacceptable 248 years ago, and it still is now.
So, we return Klaus Schwab's offer with our compliments; he can be as happy as he wants as an animal, being shorn like a sheep and cut up for meat; if we are going to die, we will do it standing on our feet, not bleating like sheep.
We will, however, counter-offer: all proponents of the Wen Dlrow Redor are invited to quietly go home and put their affairs in order. The right order, that is.
On that note, never, ever agree to the political status of an animal.
Stay smart. Stay safe. Say no and make it stick.

My Top Posts in 2022:
#5
eddie started high school knowing about the harrington family; his uncle had a few choice words to say about how they treated those with fewer advantages and how they were best avoided.
as he went through high school, he started hearing about one specific member of the harrington family in particular, from overhearing gossip in the corridors and cafeteria, from the school newspaper.
walking around school, he saw a lot of steve harrington. saw another pretty boy thinking high school popularity was everything.
and while steve never pushed eddie around or called him slurs, his friends certainly did, as steve just watched.
he always stared at him, dared steve to do anything, to help, to hurt. to end the bullying in some way.
outside those confrontations, eddie was too busy to care about steve harrington. too busy trying to keep up his grades and dealing and running hellfire and practising with corroded coffin.
so he didn't care when steve started going out with nancy wheeler.
he didn't wonder if steve could ever look at him like that. he didn't wonder what it would be like to kiss him, or run his fingers through the famous hair.
pining over straight boys that stood around watching as he got beat up could never end happily.
eddie had been forced to be good at being realistic from an early age. maybe he could get the happy ending in dungeons and dragons, but not in high school.
and he had a lot else to focus on. retaking his senior year, finding new outcasts for hellfire, making sure that wayne didn't have to carry all the weight in providing for the two of them.
eddie had no time over to think about some pretty boy, not even when that pretty boy falls from grace.
not even when the pretty boy shows up with a beat-up face. not even when the pretty boy is the subject of all the gossip he overhears.
but then summer comes.
but then his friends bring him to the new mall.
but then he sees steve in a sailor getup that is as ridiculous as it is scandalous.
and eddie might be good at being realistic when he has to, but he has always been a dreamer.
and the steve working at scoops ahoy is not the steve that stood to the side in high school.
so eddie ditches his friends to get some ice cream.

steve started high school knowing who eddie munson was; his father had all too much to say about the residents of the trailer park and how steve would do best if he avoided them.
as he went through high school, he continued hearing a lot about eddie munson, from tommy h and carol, from his teammates, from the flirtatious girls that tried to entice him with gossip.
eating in the cafeteria, he heard a lot from eddie munson himself too. some, he even quietly agreed with.
and while tommy and his teammates might push eddie around in the hallways and call him slurs, steve never did.
he was always too busy trying not to draw attention to himself, trying not to look at all the things he found captivating about eddie.
steve was too busy trying not to be any of the words his father would happily throw around when he was unhappy with his son; a queer, a faggot, a fairy.
so he found a girl that reminded him just enough of eddie munson to distract him.
nancy wheeler, with her dark curls but wrong coloured eyes, with her brilliant mind but different interests.
it worked, for a while.
steve had always been good at acting, so he tricked himself into believing that what he felt for her was romantic love; something he had never felt for a woman before.
and nancy gave him a lot more distractions than he had ever asked for. distractions, and new fears, and scars, and nightmares.
steve gives all of himself in return. or as much of himself as he can, when he's trying to find a new role to replace the one he left behind.
the steve who spent time with tommy h and carol, the steve who desperately tried to make his father proud, had ceased to exist.
the steve who tried not being any of the words his father called him had not.
but then nancy gets drunk and spill her thoughts on their relationship, on him.
but then dustin henderson drags him into going after monsters again.
but then his father gets enough of him.
and steve finds himself selling ice cream while wearing a sailor uniform. and he finds himself working alongside a girl that makes him feel like he doesn't have to be acting.
and after successfully forgetting all about eddie munson, steve finds himself face to face with him.
because who else would order ice cream minutes before closing, if not eddie?
(eddie's pov)

steve who used to doodle during class because it helped him pay attention but it was always abstract so he doesn't consider himself talented at art
he thinks art is supposed to look like something since that's what art class was like and all the famous paintings he knows portray something and the only artist he knows - will - portrays things
but then he's letting eddie borrow some of his old notes to help him graduate after everything and eddie asks about the doodles and steve can explain how every single one connects to what the teacher was saying and how he was feeling
eddie thinks it's amazing that steve is an artist and steve is all flustered and confused because he never thought of it like that but eddie goes on a small rant about how art doesn't have rules and then lets steve borrow some art supplies (used for miniatures and colour coded notes and maps for dungeons and dragons)
steve draws how eddie makes him feel while eddie studies and then gives him the drawing before leaving

My #1 post of 2022
Eddie is not a morning person; it takes approximately an hour for his brain to fully wake up. It's usually not a problem, but it's the first time that Steve stayed over so when Eddie walks into the kitchen to find him making breakfast, he thinks he's still dreaming.
Especially because Steve is only in underwear and a borrowed t-shirt, looking far more comfortable than someone in an unfamiliar kitchen should.
It feels all too natural to slide up behind Steve, rest his head on his shoulder to peer down on what's cooking, and slide bare hands under his shirt to rest on the warm softness of his stomach.
Eddie is in domestic bliss for half a second before he realises that Steve has paused, and suddenly he's snapped awake.
"Shit- Sorry-" The words fall over each other as he begins untangling himself.
"No, it's nice." Steve punctuates the sentence with a small, decisive nod, as if the reason he paused was to think about if he liked the situation and not because Eddie made him uncomfortable. "Stay."
Eddie is the one to pause now, but he slowly gets back to his original position and tests out the water by nuzzling into Steve's neck.
Steve hums and goes back to making breakfast for them, as if this isn't a big deal.
Eddie isn't completely sure that he isn't still dreaming.

A fun idea: An "Enchanted" Klapollo au mostly because I've been listening to "That's How You Know" on Loop.
Hi Anon! Sorry for taking a million years to reply to this--I actually wanted to re-watch Enchanted before I responded, because I genuinely can’t tell you how many years it’s been since I’ve seen the movie (I would guess over a decade, but that makes me feel Old, so...we’re not doing that)
The difficulty here is that I really want to cast Klavier as Himbo Supreme, Prince Edward. But he also makes a fabulous Giselle--and Apollo as Robert? (god I hope that’s his name. I literally just watched this movie. I’m so sorry that I have the memory of a goldfish for Straight White Male Love Interests).
I’m also going to take this opportunity here to push my Faraskye Agenda (TM)--Ema as Nancy, and Kay as Prince Edward. (This is mostly because I think Kay is the only other AA character who comes even a little close to matching the energy of Edward in the film. She absolutely would stab a bus with a sword. Don’t even try to tell me otherwise)
But, okay, let’s go on with Klavier and Apollo as the main characters. I’m really trying to figure out what we’re doing with the daughter character--mainly because I can’t think of any tiny children that Apollo could randomly adopt. Maybe we change the plot, then--Apollo’s taking care of Trucy, his younger sister, because their parents have unfortunately perished. He’s disillusioned with love partly because of Thalassa’s story--where she loved Jove, but he died in a fire, and ended up with Zak Gramarye mainly because of convenience rather than love. Ema’s been Apollo’s friend/babysitter for years--and he’s starting to think, hey, wouldn’t our lives both be easier if we got married, for tax benefits if nothing else?
And then. Klavier arrives, shoved through a portal by his older brother, Kristoph, in disguise.
I’m changing the plot here a little bit as well--Kristoph had sent Klavier away as soon as he was able, when he took the throne as a teenager. Klavier grew up isolated in the woods, with no idea that the king was actually his older brother. Kristoph had named Kay as his successor mainly because of her reputation as a “Great Thief”, and because he’d thought he’d be able to manipulate her to carry out his evil deeds--something that she initially falls for, but that she goes back on after she realizes the big picture of what’s going on (and meets Ema, but that’s another story).
I haven’t decided who the Evil Henchman is--we could go for yet another angle of manipulation, and have it be Vera Misham? Obviously she’s not in love with Kristoph--I’m changing that part too--but she’s been led to believe that he’s someone to be respected and admired. The turning point is when she realizes exactly what Kristoph’s planning to do--when he turns on her and goes to poison Klavier anyway--and she swaps sides, because she realizes that he only uses people for his own ends, and isn’t going to be the mentor figure she’d hoped for.
But!! Back to the Klapollo content--there’s not too much that needs to be Adjusted? Klavier is optimistic and a little naïve, and Apollo is a jaded divorce lawyer. He runs into Klavier the night that he appears in Our World, and takes him in out of pity (and Trucy’s nagging). Klavier utilizes his Disney Princess Powers(TM) to tidy Apollo’s apartment and fix the marriage of Apollo’s current client, and Apollo continues to be mildly annoyed/embarrassed by Klavier’s tendency to burst into song at inopportune times. But they slowly find themselves growing fond of each other, even as Kay tries to hunt down Klavier and Ema keeps getting more and more skeptical of the “platonic” nature of Klavier and Apollo’s relationship.
(She really doesn’t care either way--if you try to tell me that Ema Skye isn’t a lesbian, then...I will respect your opinion but privately disagree)
Everything comes to a head at the Kings and Queens Ball--where Apollo begrudgingly dons royal attire (LITERALLY PICTURING THAT CAFE ART RN) and Klavier shows up dressed Extremely Modern (like...his court outfit??) in contrast to all the Regal Attire he’d made out of Apollo’s curtains before. (Apollo never quite gets over that, honestly). And everything’s going Okay, before reality sets in and Apollo goes back to dance with Ema, and Kristoph decides he’s got to take matters into his own hands.....
(Look, an evil Kristoph-Dragon is a cool idea, you know? And maybe we’ve also got the dramatic reveal that Klavier and Kristoph are siblings--and Klavier deciding that hey, he doesn’t actually want the throne, he just wants to be here with Apollo--and Ema and Kay can go on and rule Andalasia (or whatever it’s called rip me I can’t be bothered to look it up) by themselves)
Anyway--everyone ends up happy, and that’s the important part--Klavier stays in the Real World with Apollo, with whom he’s discovered both happiness and the value of sarcastic banter; and Ema runs off to fantasyland with Kay, because somewhere deep down she’s fascinated by the scientific anomaly that this represents, and she’s at least 800x more interested in Kay than she’d ever been in Apollo. And they all live happily ever after.
And so! I hope that lines up with your imagination, Anon--and thanks for giving me an actual solid decision on what to watch tonight. Thank you for the ask!
