It's amazing to me just how good the Mormon church has been at hiding just how bad they really are from public view. Even the shit that gets spread around is the relatively harmless bullshit. They had a crazy prophet with magic glasses. They believe in god-mandated polygyny. They think everyone who is good enough will get their very own planet after the world ends. They wear magic underpants. Mormon men are all paladins.
Here's one of the ones you hear less often:
See, like many other Christian sects, the Mormons really do believe that the existence of Christ obviates the existence of Judaism. Judaism was just a placeholder until the "real" church could be established by Jesus.
And the Mormons in particular believe, dead ass, that the entire inheritance of Israel has been given to them, because the Jews failed to recognize the Messiah when he was on Earth. They really do. They have this whole system where people are given a "divine revelation" about which of the Tribes of Israel they're a member of (don't worry, they decided that most people belong to the two tribes that are willing to "adopt" people. Only the most specialest boys and girls are members of the original ten).
Let's sum up so far. The Mormons believe that they are the people of Israel, chosen and protected by God. If Jews want to get back in on that party, they can always repent and convert to Mormonism, the one true church to which God gave all the rights and blessings that were originally bestowed on Abraham's house.
But it doesn't stop there!
The Mormons also believe, in all seriousness, that all Indigenous peoples of the Americas are descended from a small group of Jewish people who left just before the fall of Jerusalem (~600 bc iirc). Their entire weird-ass extra bible is a chronicle of those people's history in [unspecific part of America]. At the very beginning of the book, two brothers in the original family turn away from god, so they and all their descendants are cursed with dark skin, so that the good Nephites (who remain "white and delightsome") will always be able to tell themselves apart from the wicked Lamanites.
So, you've got supposedly Jewish people running around the Americas. And the "good" ones are white, and the "bad" ones are brown. Then, ofc, Jesus comes to visit them (I guess supposedly that's part of what he was doing during his dirt nap? Or possibly after he left again, it's not clear), and they all convert to Christianity, which they think is clearly the natural evolution of Judaism. Well, at the end of the book, all of them become wicked, in a kind of weird pseudo-apocalyptic series of events. They are all cursed with dark skin, until such time as they repent for their ancestors sins and return to the gospel.
But of course, Mormons being the good and kind people they are, they want everyone to receive the blessings of God and be brought into the houses of Israel etc etc. And it isn't the fault of those poor little Indigenous children that their distant ancestors turned away from God and became wicked.
So what's the natural answer? Well, Mormons are real big on missionary work, as we all know. But apparently that wasn't enough in this case.
Because the Mormon church has been one of the big players in abducting as many Indigenous children as possible, in order to indoctrinate them into being good Mormons, so that they can turn white again and be blessed. My mother remembers hearing talks about this in the 70s and 80s. The church literally had a "Lamanite Adoption Program," where families in the church were encouraged to get as many Indigenous children as possible away from their families and not let them be reunited until they were fully assimilated and ready to go back and proselytize about how wonderful the church is.
The church leadership literally talked about how wonderful it was to see these children becoming whiter. Actually whiter. Like, saying that when they finally saw them with their families again, it was beautiful how much paler they were.
I'm pretty sure this program has been officially ended, but it doesn't take a genius to speculate about who might be behind the curtains on the movement in the western US to gut the ICWA....
So yeah. Next time someone tries to tell you that the Mormons are just harmless weirdos, please remember that they're an antisemitic cult that advocates for the forced assimilation of Indigenous children to help them escape the cursed brown skin of their ancestors.

i agree w all of your r*nance thoughts. i also think a big issue for them would be nancy never being robin's Person bc of steve; i do not think that's something nancy could stomach. tho at this point, even if i had liked it originally, i would despise it bc of how often ppl have robin or nancy or both do absolutely sick and twisted things to steve. like the amount of fics where robin doesn't tell steve/actively lies to him about it for extended periods of time then he just has to be okay w it or they have robin just start putting nancy above steve in every aspect of life is ridiculous. then there's the really bad ones, like the fic i saw where the entire premise is r*nance fucking in steve's bed w/o his knowledge (and robin specifically doesn't feel bad at all which ???? like they have nancy feel bad but not robin? i will never understand) or the ficlet i saw where robin asks steve for sex advice then either 1) tells him it's nancy and he makes the advice specific (wtf) or 2) doesn't tell him but he figures it out later bc nancy thanks him since she realized the advice came from him (demonic). like what the actual fuck. sorry i had to complain about the things i've been forced to see against my will by tumblr.

I find it actually laughable that people would consider Robin would put some romantic interest above her most specialest boy in the whole wide world. Like. She was obsessed with him when she held her tammy and bagel crumb grudge and hated him! Now she loves him? Do people thing she isn't obsessed with him now?? Absolutely not she's worse and she steals his shirts to prove it.
Which I agree with you. Nancy obviously wants to be her romantic partner's priority and number 1. Jonathan's priority is his family and we saw in both s3 and s4 that this causes strain in their relationship! To the point they kinda break up in s3 about it! Robin and Steve both can no longer give that to their partners, because they have each other, scoops troop, and, by extension, the Party. Which is wild because s2 Nancy was Steve's priority.
idk whyyy people have Robin be mean to Steve :( stopppp that's her special little guy. her sweet cheese. her rotten soldier. She might say or do something that hurts him but she would try to apologize as soon as she realizes!! Just like he would for her! I think it might come from people still prioritizing romo ships over platonic ones and trying to have those be the most important and special and deep relationship the characters have.

I think some are trying to acknowledge past st4ncy, but neglect all the hurt that happened at the end of that relationship, and that for the characters, in s4, Steve and Nancy broke up less than a year and a half ago! very messily and hurtfully! (once again, regardless of whether or not steve knows Nancy cheated) that is so short between the end of the relationship to be hooking up with your best friend's ex! that he has expressed romantic feelings for recently! or trying to emphasize robin and steve's weird little qpr comfortable in one another's space and oversharing relationship but missing the mark. like. it's one thing to sleep in a friend's bed with a different friend. it another to have sex in a friend's guest bedroom. it's another level to have sex in your friends bed? that's bonkers.wild.
I do think it'd be funny for Steve and Robin to exchange sex tips/stories but the first time i think Robin asks and Steve just blanks and goes "cut your nails. watch your teeth." which like. yeah. Robin figured. They're weirdos who live inside each other's pockets and brains but they probably do have some levels of comfort to work up to (they've been friends for less than a year! even if it feels like they've known each other forever)
(also. there is a weird thing sometimes where Nancy is closer to Steve/cares more openly about him than she would. I think it might be a bit of a backlash to people pointing out that she cheated on him in s2 and then seemed to not talk to him at all between then and s3 and again between s3 and s4? hmm...)

Post-betrayal: After revealing his apocalyptic plans that he used Ford for, Bill told Ford "It'd be fun to watch you try to stop me! Cute, even!". Ford then spent thirty years inventing and building a special kind of gun capable of killing Bill. With bill-shaped crosshairs. Ford wrote many many pages in his journal about Bill, including lines like "I was seduced by flattery" and "MY MUSE WAS A MONSTER" in big letters surrounded by frenzied scribbling. Bill calls him by cutesy nicknames, including "Fordsy." During the apocalypse, Bill serenades Ford on the piano, asks him multiple times to join him and rule the world together, and then puts a chained collar around his neck.

This is the story of 3 betrayals :
1. Madoka and Homura meet and become best friends. Madoka believes in love and justice and helping people as a magical girl. But she gets killed. So Homura, loving her and believing in her cause, becomes a magical girl in order to time travel and save Madoka. Eventually, however, they find out they were being tricked all along, and none of what they thought they were fighting for is real. And this is BETRAYAL NUMBER 1: They've agreed to give up and just die/become monsters Together, when suddenly Madoka sacrifices herself to save Homura. As she is dying in Homura's arms she tells her she has a selfish goal: "you can travel in time, right ? Go back in time and warn me, stop me from getting tricked and becoming a magical girl."
2. So Homura goes back in time and tries to warn Madoka and their friends, but no one believes her. She can't save Madoka from her fate. So she time travels, again and again and again, trying desperately to save Madoka and failing every time, and becoming more and more estranged from her with every timeline. By the time we get to the timeline we know, she's done it so many times that she's become a stranger to Madoka, but Homura has become cold and hardened. It doesn't matter if Madoka doesn't love her anymore, all that matters is saving her. In the end, Homura's time travel has tied the strings of fate around Madoka so much, that Madoka bcomes the most powerful magical girl of all time and is able to essentially become a god, and rewrite the rules of the universe. She's created a better world, but at the cost of erasing her own human existence. Now no one will remember her except for Homura. As they are hugging naked in the cosmos, saying goodbye as the universe rewrites itself, Homura expresses how devastated she is by this turn of events. Madoka has saved her from the time loop she was in, but has sacrificed herself, and thereby Homura has failed to keep her promise of saving her. This is BETRAYAL NUMBER 2: Homura now has to live without Madoka, and all hope of keeping her promise to save her is lost.
3. And so we arrive at BETRAYAL NUMBER 3, the one they're most famous for : Homura tricks Madoka, and steals her godhood. Homura becomes the devil and undoes everything Madoka has fought for just to save Madoka and let her have a human existence, because she loves her that much. It's the ultimate betrayal because she destroys everything Madoka sacrificed herself for, she refuses to let her make the world better because selfishly, she loves Madoka so much she wants her to be able to exist.

We already established this episode's approximate place on the timeline, folks :D Somewhere around episodes 42 (The Trial) and 26 (A Hairy Mystery)
Considering they weren't even married, it's so funny. Kerubim and Lou were like "let's become engaged" and immediately, Kerubim began to call her his wife. While she didn't exactly return the favor. We've seen that, during this time, she simply called him "her fiancé".
...He always had been a romantic like that.
Do you think Kerubim utilized girl power right, when he became an enforcer of Bonta's corrupt regime?
Anyway, if the criminals called me "kekop", I would kill myself.
I was about to go "NEW KROSMOZ FRUIT DROPPED", before I saw that it's just an outdated translation for citronanas, which we had already seen in Wakfu... For shame!

Racism in the World of Twelve is very interesting because, just like Khajiiti people in the TES setting, it does seem like Ecaflips are sometimes viewed in an unfair light.
It's probably due to Ecaflip's culture of gambling, which leads to addiction, and then homelessness and poverty. And also the uhh, existence of Ecaflip Psychward. Man.
...Catgirls can't fucking escape racism in western fantasy franchises. 😥

jjk s2 ep22 spoilers under the cut!!!
GOSHHHHH THIS EPISODE. grabs u by the shoulders. wasnt it so good…….. wasnt it so mouthwatering…………
lets be clear im entirely guided by my kenny bias but i LOVE this fight. sososo much. and the animators did such a good job!!!! i was floored!!!! the choreography and creative decisions when it comes to kenny vs choso were so great, and the animation in general… gosh.
FIRST OF ALL: THIS MOMENT. one of my faves ever <333 and they did it SO much justice. i think mahito/kenny as a duo is so interesting bc mahito is the mirror that reflects human ugliness and what it means to be human, while kenny is a human being who’s lived FAR past his ’expiration date.’ if mahito is the mirror, then kenny is the reflection itself.
and the fact that mahito always knew kenny would betray him is such genius character writing from gege imo… just….. augh. SO good.
mahito’s expression…. kenny’s expression…… yeah.
and that brings me to!!!! uzumaki my beloved!!!!!!! my fave ultimate move in jjk maybe possibly…. i was just FLOORED by how beautifully they animated it, the fluidity, the colors, the emphasis on the fact that mahito is driving it to its full potential…

Since I'm talking about Suspension of Disbelief today apparently, here's a problem that took me a long time to articulate correctly that I have with worldbuilding.
Example A (D?) is Vampire Hunter D. I liked the movies, enjoyed much of the manga, so I picked up the books, hoping for more information. However, I finally gave up on the books (after the volume that the Bloodlust film is based on). Part of this is because the story, which I'd really enjoyed the movie of but had some problems with, wasn't better in book form. It was actually worse in some ways - particularly how I found out that Charlotte's name was either added by the movie staff or not translated in book form. She was just called "the girl" for the entire volume.
But while that was the main reason I gave up on reading the series, it wasn't the only one. Vampire Hunter D has a setting that I'm interested in, a bleak post-apoc fantasy future that intrigues me, and a certain level of angst that I generally enjoy.
But it also had a major, ongoing worldbuilding problem (for me), and that was that the story didn't merely follow the protagonist, it only followed the protagonist. All worldbuilding elements tended to be about how bleak and unbearable the future was, with a handful of technological advancements. The world itself was only interesting when D was present and interacting with it, even though it had a lot of elements that would make for a world I would usually enjoy! From a fan creation standpoint, it was very difficult for me to workshop fic for the series, because the world was only really 'real' when D was Being The Protagonist at it.
He was the only one allowed to solve problems, to fix issues, to kill vampires most of the time. And while I liked him well enough, his personality and motivations are vague enough that he really cannot carry the series on force of personality alone, in my own opinion. VHD isn't a bad series, necessarily, but it was one I couldn't engage with past a certain point.
And to be clear, this post is not about me slamming this series. It had a lot of interesting things I enjoyed, and the Bloodlust movie in particular is still appealing to me, even with its weird moments. This is just about how narrative and worldbuilding work, and VHD is an example that I can articulate my problems with. It's especially frustrating to me because the series has so much potential appeal, but I just can't get any further into it.
Now, my counterpoints. For some reason anime is on the brain, so let's bring up Helck, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Frieren: At Journey's End.
All three of these series, in some respect, avoid the problem I had with VHD. Helck is especially interesting as a comparison, because it also has a Specialest Boy In The World protagonist... but the thrust of the series is partly about how just being obscenely strong and competent doesn't mean he's undeserving of help, and that help changes the trajectory of his story in a very positive way.
But one of the fun things about Helck is the side stories and side characters. There's a gag a few times involving a series of characters that are experiencing their Hot-Blooded Shonen Cooking Manga storyline, completely divorced from the dramatic stakes of Helck's core story. Helck and Vamirio even butt into their story for a cooking competition chapter, which is hilarious. And we sometimes see characters like this interacting with side characters from other arcs, in ways that don't refer to Helck or Vamirio or Piwi at all. Further, we see side characters like the Demon King Tourney participants doing things like making new friends, fighting against the antagonists and getting stronger, and writing the empire-famous manga that Asuta loves. Over and over, Helck as a story acknowledges a very wide world that isn't directly involved in much of the core story, yet when the protagonists interact with it, doing so affects them, changing their ideals and widening their viewpoints.
FMA does hinge a little more on Ed's journey, but many of the characters doing things he precipitated had never actually met him. And what's important to that story in particular is stuff like the epilogue with Al traveling with the chimeras, and things of that nature - of Ed and Al over and over displaying compassion to the point that it changed people's lives. The protagonists are important, yes, but the world is repeatedly shown to go on without them, even during core story moments, because the world is full of strong (even, at times, stronger than the protags) characters with complex personalities and motivations.
Frieren is a little less so, probably since her journey with Himmel was extremely important on a social level even now, but characters, trends, and locations are typically fleshed out to the point where it doesn't feel like the Special Protagonists have to Exist At Them for things to happen. Soul Track being broken down and integrated into basic offense magic could have been something Frieren did, so I like that it's something humans did on their own, completely divorced from her interference past the initial binding point. Actually, a theme of the series as a whole is Frieren being ancient and knowledgeable and yet, willingly and willfully, learning from humans and the world around her more and more.
Lastly, a non-anime example, is how Sir Terry deliberately wrote Ankh-Morpork in a way that it could feasibly exist outside of the immediate tracks of a story. He succeeded to the point that virtually every location and character in the Disc could be transplanted alone into a completely new story and still be recognizable. I could, and would, read a story that takes place in Ankh-Morpork that namedrops not one known character and still feel like it fits, like it's vibrant, like it's alive. You could tell me that Granny Weatherwax dismantled a cult of people who thought the Disc rested atop the backs of pigs as an aside in a book not at all about her, and I could go "yeah that sounds like her" and move on.
I've heard it mentioned in DnD terms, the idea that one should account for players not doing as expected and ignoring a major plot point, and what should happen if they do. In BG3, if you take too many Rests, an inn fire will burn down and kill everyone trapped in the building that you could have saved, which will have some effects on the quest(s) you get at that location. FNV had "hunting ghosts in Baja" that I really respect, the idea that not only is there a wider world out there, but that it understandably doesn't really care what one person, no matter how Special, is doing in a distant place, because they have their own problems to attend to.
I don't know if there's a particular phrase for this idea that I'm missing, and to be fair, there are plenty of times where it is okay for the story to revolve around the protagonist! it's often plenty fine and enjoyable to watch the Specialest Person In The World fix everything! But sometimes, worldbuilding that doesn't account for the protagonist not existing can fall so flat that it makes it hard, even impossible, to continue enjoying the rest of the work.
I guess that's it - whether creators consider how to answer the question of "if so-and-so didn't exist, what impact would it have on the world?" and how they choose to answer that.

1- you really are an absolutely wonderful writer, your latest spourt fic was so good. For example I haven’t seen new girls but I have read fic based on that scene before (me with all popular media lol) and this time I could actually completely picture that confusing game the whole way through and not get lost. Also I love Alex, they are so special.
2. You now have me shourtcer (spentney?) thinking v hard. Court just loves their people so visibly it’s hard not to.

john wakes up earliest, consistently. unless it’s a day jessie plans to go fishing, then — just kidding john wakes up first then too, but it’s from jessie’s 4 AM alarm, as she proceeds to sleep through it and the next ten that follow it, and any effort of his to wake her.
11. How do they feel about nicknames/pet names? If they like them, what pet names do they use? If they hate them, why do they feel that way?
john called jessie “little red” exactly once before about-facing and radioing her the same day “OMG just kidding you’re actually the biggest, strongest person in the entire world haha wouldn’t it be funny if you crushed me with your giant muscles 🥺” and never really attempting a pet name again from that point. also driven by the setting in of his obsessive focus on simply learning her first name at all, and while what he does finally learn is technically a nickname he is also so dedicated to flaunting it as the world’s best prize to himself that he doesn’t bother to dress it up with any additional sweet talk. just jessie. that’s so incredible. (i guess spoilery and of note is that he will continue to call her “jessie” even after he learns her full name, because he knows she prefers it. something something symbolism). the most he ever does is tack on the occasional “jessie, dear” or “my jessie.”
jestiny throws out a stray “baby” or few in the heat of the moment, which is of course so taunting and belittling and not at all meant to make him feel like her most special baby boy. don’t get it twisted he would be so dumb to think that. other than that, it’s just “john” or “that fucking guy”

managing to be comfortably non-verbal at all is an unprecedented miracle and massive “i love you” in and of itself with them.
but also jessie will pause the rough handling to just look at him and give stray, unusually tender and doting touches — forehead kisses, tracing his freckles with her fingers, etc. john tends to full body cling, absentmindedly tangle fingers in her hair, touch her dimples when they’re visible. also mutual just constantly reaching for each other and finding ways to be in each other’s space. and these wild sons of guns do be holding hands.
29. Describe their nighttime routine.
fall asleep in THE DIRT. john snores so loud jessie thinks he’s a sleep paralysis demon for a sec then goes back to sleep. yeah they do this every night why not
(real nighttime routine varies a bit by exact living circumstances, but usually consistents of jessie busying herself with something well into the night, john pestering her to come to bed already. then finally initiating sex in an effort to get her to the bedroom, never actually ends up in the bedroom because she is So Spiteful and Will Not Be Manipulated and he is too dumb and horny to have any follow through on his own plan. they go to bed anyways after but she has to Prove A Point first. yeah they do this every night)
46. Do they consider their relationship casual or serious? Is the answer different depending on who you ask? Why?
they are both super fun super casual people known for being chill, laid-back, and having measured emotional reactions and attachments. which for her part jessie is actually deluded enough to believe about herself, she swears anything between them was a momentary lapse in judgment that means nothing. they just did Hand Stuff (she has not gone ten minutes without thinking about him) it was basically Church Camp Shit (she is actively hallucinating him as a coping mechanism to make her other hallucinations less stressful).
john for his part is less in denial about that piece, while he occasionally downplays or obfuscates the motivations behind his obsession he has never once denied that she is the world’s specialest most importantest girl. “his world [had] been shaken to its foundations, cleaved in twain and hollowed out and rebuilt from its core to be filled with her” - guy who got jerked off and learned a woman’s first name. he thinks they’re pretty serious, yeah.

i love pavitr and i wish he got more screen time he was so silly. beloved character. dear to me. i love his entire rant abt chai. that was so good.
and hobie!!!!!! silliest dude. love the anarchist brit. i love how he like kind of does fuck-all in almost every scene he is in yet simultaneously is the most chaotic dude in the room. respect. he is also very dear to me and i look forward to seeing more of his dimension in the next movie <3
gwen is so tgirl btw. like her entire dimension is mostly blue-pink-white and purples???? and in the entire conversation with her dad it's all blue-pink-white in the background??? and her entire "the people i love can only know half of me!" like ?!?!??! ? AND WHEN HE ACCEPTS HER THE ENTIRE SCENE TURNS ONLY WHITE AND PINK?????? i love her dearly. gwen deserves the world btw.
miles was !!! ough i love seeing his growth. going from being all cocky and confident to terrified of what's going to happen like. he's still a child even if he has to act as a grown up !!!! ough.
spot being the most cringefail wet pathetic villain and then going to actually being terrifying was one of the best villains yet btw like. he goes from the most wet and pathetic guy to actually downright terrifying and i love that for him. #growth.
ALSO MIGUEL. Miguel's motif reminds me a lot of Prowler's? like it lacks that sharp synth-y sound that Prowler has in his theme but the underlying sense of unease and danger is so similar. i think miguel is going to be a villain in the next movie tbh. he seems kind of... i dunno. like he's holding on too tightly and believes the only right way is his way?
anyway. loved seeing gwen assemble everyone in the end :) peter and mayday!!!! noir and peni !!!!!!! spiderham !!!!!! hobie and pavitr and spider-byte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's going to be so fun in the next movie i think. and god i look forward to seeing noir and peni again i ADORE them

ANYWAY GWEN. I love her she's my most specialest girl ever. T Gwen is so real I can't believe there are people denying it???? The color palette and the way she talks about herself. There's a fucking TRANS FLAG IN HER ROOM and people are like "um she can have that flag because she's an ally not because she is trans" and I'm like. Amount of cis people I've met with trans flags in their room = 0. There are people saying that it's because Peter was the trans guy which I mean yeah, would make sense, but why not both. both is good.
Anyway Gwen's world is def my favorite, I love the aquarelle texture and how it's the world in which the color affects the environment the most. My favorite scene is the one where she confronts her dad, the way you can see her hair turning pink and blue and how at the end all the colors become warmer and GHHHFRFHR I love her so much.
Anyway I have a lot of thoughts I'm going to scream and cry. I kinda want a spiderverse theme but there are so many good images, I don't know what to use

Erica!! How was the concert? (If you feel like talking about it, of course)
literally i will be talking about it (the best night ever) for the rest of my life
even just walking in was amazing- there were so many people who were also dressed up, so many people who also looked so happy to be there, so many people who i saw myself in- i knew it was going to be a great night
(side note: i am so much poorer now because i spent my entire paycheck on merch, but i got my boy zone shirt, 3/4 of the mystery shirts (and one ray dupe), and the sparkly silver mikey fuckin way shirt)
but devil master was great! (i couldn’t understand a word, but their sound and their aesthetics were fuckin a)
and midtown!! holy shit midtown!!! they were absolutely fantastic! they just kept thanking us and reminding us they were from nj and thanking mikey and thanking us again, and you could really feel how excited they were to be playing (i’m honestly a little sorry i didn’t get more video of them, but my phone battery was running low as it was, and i had to conserve its life for my chem) (also, i found myself incredibly attracted to gabe saporta almost as soon as he walked out on stage because wow. wow.)
and then MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE! literally the moment the (forever-long) foundations intro started we were standing. i was lucky enough to have gotten middle floor seats (so a bit behind the pit) so i could SEE them!! i could see their faces!! and i swear i felt like i was losing my mind when i saw gerard’s outfit (it looked so nice! the cardigan, the pockets on the dress- literally i want that outfit so bad). every song was a banger, even if i am a little disappointed i didn’t get to hear vampire money live, but CHA GIRL GOT PLANETARY!! (actually, in the video i took, you can literally hear me begging “please, god, PLEASE” after gerard starts the introduction and mentions dancing, because that’s the kind of person i am.) local danger days stan stays winning. then add Boy Division and Mama and Scarecrow and Famous Last Words and literally every other song they played. GOD. god.
i took small videos of most of the songs they performed, but i was mostly trying to live in the moment, so any of the videos i took were grainy and far away, but audio-wise not half bad. i’ve spent like an hour today rewatching them and marveling at the fact that like. i was there. i saw that. i heard them! i got to experience the specialest band in the world right there, playing for me and all of my new best friends (like Daniel and Toni, who had the seats on either side of me and were so fucking friendly, and that girl who reassured me i wasn’t flashing the entire stadium when i was walking up the stairs out of the arena).
it’s literally incomparable to anything i’ve ever done before, and probably anything i’ll ever do again. it was literally the best night of my life.

MIKOOOOOO MY GIRLLLLLL SHES THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD. She genuinely holds tfp on her entire fucking back her relationship w bulk is so fun good lird. She's so important. It's really interesting how she repeatedly puts bulks life over her own and has like zero regard for her well-being and health I wish we got more of it in the show...

i just saw the 'rotten little man' post you reblogged and i remember ruti embodying 'cat pushes things off a surface' energy, lmao.

ruti absolutely embodies that energy of a cat, and i can delve into at least part of that without terrible spoilers, but he has decided to become one of my favorite side characters in echoseers so theres even more behind the cut <3
the biggest things that stand out about ruti:
- he's the cityheir of aree. its His Parents that are being overthrown in firebreathers
- he's ALSO the subject of gab's one-sided rivalry in the aree circus-theater because the citylord wants his boy to be the spotlight if he's gonna be an acrobat, and absolutely has bribed the ringleader several times to give ruti the lead
- ruti was not aware of the above and because gab is Professional he literally just thinks gab is his buddy.
- those two are just the perfect amount of similar catty mean-girl energy to absolutely hate each other given the opportunity
- aka when gab finally Snaps they are at each other's throats in the most petty way possible. this is where the line "Do these look chipped to you? Asshole?" *waving manicure in face* comes from
but for my favorite things about ruti........... we must dive into Spoilers. purposefully a bit vague so theres no huge things, but behind the cut nonetheless <3
SO. ruti palm. my new favorite Bastard.
turns out he was doing his damnedest to get his dad to listen to the rebellion before they got their shit rocked, and wholeheartedly agrees with the rebels. mans was literally working at the theater that whole goddamn time, he knows what the people think and care about and he's been made to care too. his dad's just a stubborn asshole
also when he wasn't in aree?? when he was in impalfahr for half the year on political business with his parents?? yeah that time??
he was being trained in espionage. BY ACTAEA. AT XAVI'S SIDE.
he then uses said training to rock her shit in return, albeit because he's paired with the Idiots Who Stumbled Into World-Saving Importance (aka gab + andy + ros) it does end up being entirely ineffective. but also xavi's kinda like an older brother to him, but also xavi Betrayed Him and he's still trying to grapple with that whole deal.
he's fully capable of sneaking up on and spying on the eternals, and has done it, and does it before the readers learn this about him. he also openly admits to breaking into tieling's office to burn a proposal his dad put forth to take back aree. because he's that ballsy.
also also: the one-sidedness of gab's rivalry? made all the clearer when ruti's like "YOU WERE LITERALLY THE ONLY PERSON WHO I THOUGHT EVEN MAYBE LIKED ME, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT MY FRIEND???" because.......... he literally just realized his Only Friend hates his guts.
yeah. that part made me sad for him. which i was not expecting ever to do.
ruti genuinely wants to be a good dude, he's just also super vain and was raised in a monarchy that told him he was The Most Specialest Boy (except his grandparents, thats a whole other homophobia deal thats left vague even in-book) and so he forgets to turn that whole line of thinking off sometimes.
still a lil bit of a dick but gab's also a dick and we love him for it so. yeah
i dont stan ruti but i Understand ruti. and i have absolutely laid the groundwork for him to come back up in later books after the Glittergale arc and we'll get to see him as a well-adjusted common man into some nefarious side gigs beyond his small theater troupe. and i am so excited for that

we finished our last session of one of my dnd campaigns and to say i am WEEPING is not enough. Neva was my first proper character (previous aborted campaigns notwithstanding) and i am so happy i got to have so much fun with my specialest girl who came from my head. she flung lightning and hated her dad and forgave her dad and met her wife and annoyed god so much god responded, and she loved her friends and she healed as many people as she could. and then she flung more lightning. she was the most fun in the entire world to play, my silver dragonborn tempest cleric, and i am eternally thankful i had such a good experience with dnd. i will cherish the hand-painted mini my friend made of her, forever. i am crying hhhhdhdhh

finally finished y8. thoughts below
im having a lot of mixed feelings. in general the game was fantastic. i honestly enjoyed every hour i put into it So much. i love the formula these games have and they just never disappoint me. the gameplay was super fun all throught the game like its really improved from y7 hawaii is cool the music was Fantastic the entire game and its just. it was an enjoyable experience. a wonderful entry in a series full of wonderful entries
some complaints tho. i was completely sure they were killing off kiryu coming in cause to me its what makes the most sense narratively. the guy is a fucking beast and an expert at stealing the show. which is exactly what happened. while kiryu is alive ichi will never truly be the protagonist of the series. and like. i dont mind that. weve had games with multiple protagonists and they work well. but this all feels like making up for the rushed ending kiryu got in y6 and backtracking on making a new protag for the series instead of fully commiting to ichi. am i glad kiryu didnt die? im not sure. cause theyve set everything up to have him appear on another game so itll depend on what they do next. i am glad that theyve dropped the daidoji stuff and that haruka will most likely appear again cause after all this time if they had him die alone and miserable it wouldve been absolutely terrible. like i guess thats the issue with kiryu in general. hes so big and hes been around for so long that like. what do you do with a character like that. how do you let him go without disappointing everyone but also. how do you keep him around without making him the center of everything. it really feels like theyve written themselves into a corner
i feel like ichis plot was kind of rushed or at least more barebones than expected. like this feels more like a kiryu game than anything else. the guy meets him mom for the first time in his life and they have so little time together. the stuff with palekana and lani feels like an afterthought. theres barely any mention of the fact that hes ebinas half brother??? like whats he gonna do now. they dont even show anything about that. will he stay in hawaii with his mom. will he stay in japan and continue with the dissolution bussiness? are daigo and co gonna help. is kiryu gonna help???? i guess well see in y9
Anyways some good stuff now. kiryus final segment was So good and hype. the jimas showing up to help. that little fight with them as support. the fight with ebina. very good. i also enjoyed ichis part but i feel it was a bit weaker (except for the part where chitose does her thing. shes my most specialest girl in the world. i hope they keep her for the next 10 games)
i would love to be able to comment on the post game content cause i enjoyed that in y7 a lot but sadly. its dlc and im not gonna get that until its very very cheap on sale :^)
