I would so watch a series that's just merlin and gaius going about their lives. arthur is there, but it ain't about him. he makes an appeareance now and then as the comic relief guy. the series is part procedural/part sit-com. merlin and gaius investigate to solve the magical mystery of the week. gwen is merlin's best buddy and occasional helper, but he still has to keep his magic a secret around her (she finds out at some point, of course). gaius's errands in the lower town set up the episode's subplot. he has a friend who keeps getting her chickens stolen or something. she thinks there's sorcery involved. she's right. it's the fearsome chicken-stealing Cockatrice, a creature of legend impossible to defeat. unless

I am defeated entirely by the way they look at each other. Nothing can stand between them and nothing can stop them or the way they care about each other or the stubborn love that Alan won't give up because he has to scale Jeff's walls and so he will without hesitation.

You know, this is the kind of line where I lose my mind about context mattering in a relationship because this context matters so, so much and makes this beautiful.

These two were actively written to murder me. Actively written to destroy me. Look at Jeff! Look at Alan! Look at them!

The way Alan lists all of Jeff's faults with the most loving tenderness and with the most care in his voice and his expression because he knows who he loves and that he loves him as a whole, exactly as he is, flawed and beautiful and perfectly imperfect because he is exactly who he wants to love.

Jeff's joy and Alan's gentle trust... just perfect. Because he loves Jeff so much and he wants them together and will brave anything, including rollerskating, to get the person he loves.

The future doesn't scare Alan and that's the most comforting thing to Jeff. That Alan isn't scared of the future they have together because he sees the future they have together and it's filled to the brim with love.
