As the annual haj pilgrimage approached its peak, around a million Muslim pilgrims gathered before dawn on Friday at Saudi Arabia's Mount Arafat for a vigil to atone for their transgressions and to pray for peace at home.
White-robed pilgrims scaled the craggy Mount of Mercy, which commands a view of the plain of Arafat where the Prophet Mohammad delivered his last speech. Many others sought out any natural cover they could find from the scorching desert sun or took cover behind parasols.
"I feel very happy, it is strange feeling with a spiritual atmosphere. It is very good spiritual atmosphere indeed," said Tunisian pilgrim Afif Ghanmi, 58.
"I ask God for good health, safety and stability in all countries and Muslim nations. For my country Tunisia, God willing, it will get better economically, socially and politically," Ghanmi said.
The pilgrims will wait until sunset before leaving for the Muzdalifa Plain, where they will gather pebbles to throw at stone columns that represent the devil. On Saturday, Muslims around the world will celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the feast of sacrifice, which is marked by the ritual stoning known as Jamarat.
After two years of interruption brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, during which the authorities only permitted Saudi citizens to conduct haj, Saudi Arabia has announced that up to one million pilgrims, largely from outside, will attend the haj season this year.
In 2019, before the pandemic, over 2.6 million pilgrims travelled to Mecca and Medina, the two holiest places in Islam, while roughly 19 million participated in umrah, a lesser pilgrimage that may be undertaken at any time of the year.
According to Hani Jokhdar, a representative from the Saudi health ministry, authorities are utilising a monitoring system to keep an eye on the development of infectious diseases so they may be prepared for any early health warnings and take swift action and support.
While concrete barriers topped with metallic bares protected restricted areas in the foothills of the Mount of Mercy, security guards wandered among the pilgrims. The government-issued wristbands for the pilgrims, which contained personal data barcodes, were worn while they prayed with their arms up to the sky.
Some people took selfies.
"Praise be God, our Lord, who made us perform haj after years of trying," said Farhana Amin, an Egyptian pilgrim.
"I couldn't even dream of this."

Hajj Pilgrimage Starts in Saudi Arabia, with 2 Million Expected After Lifting of COVID Measures! The Hajj Pilgrimage has Officially Started in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MINA, Saudi Arabia — Some 2 million Muslim pilgrims officially began the annual Hajj pilgrimage on Monday, making their way out of Mecca after circling Islam's holiest site, the Kaaba, and converging on a vast tent camp in the nearby desert for a day and night of prayer.
One of the largest religious gatherings in the world has returned to full capacity this year for the first time since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic three years ago.
The pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam, and all Muslims are required to make the five-day Hajj at least once in their lives if they are physically and financially able to do it.
For pilgrims, it is a deeply moving spiritual experience that absolves sins, brings them closer to God and unites the world's more than 1.8 billion Muslims. Some spend years saving up money and waiting for a permit to embark on the journey.
The rituals during Hajj largely commemorate the Quran's accounts of Ibrahim, his son Ismail and Ismail's mother Hajar.
Pilgrims have been doing the ritual circuit around the Kaaba since arriving in Mecca over recent days. As the last ones performed it Monday, the pilgrims made their way by foot or by bus to Mina, where they will camp in one of the largest tent cities in the world. They will pray throughout the day and night before traveling on Tuesday to Mount Arafat, where the Prophet Muhammad is said to have delivered his final sermon.
Mina is vast and open, with little respite from the desert heat and blazing sun. Soldiers sprayed pilgrims with water to cool them down.
Egyptian businessman Yehya Al-Ghanam said he was at a loss for words to describe his feelings upon arriving at Mina.
“Tears will fall from my eyes out of joy and happiness,” he said. “I do not sleep. I have not slept for 15 days, only an hour a day," overwhelmed by the magnitude of the emotions surrounding his pilgrimage.
After Arafat, pilgrims collect pebbles from a site known as Muzdalifa to be used in the symbolic stoning of pillars representing the devil back in Mina. The final three days of the Hajj coincide with the festive Eid al-Adha holiday, when Muslims around the world slaughter livestock and distribute the meat to the poor.

SAHIH AL-BUKHARI, Book 4, Hadith 47
Chapter (35): (What is said regarding) a man who helps his companion to perform ablution (by pouring water for him)
باب الرَّجُلِ يُوَضِّئُ صَاحِبَهُ
Narrated Usama bin Zaid (RadiyAllahu ‘anhu):
"When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) departed from `Arafat, he turned towards a mountain pass where he answered the call of nature.
(After he had finished) I poured water and he performed ablution and then I said to him, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Will you offer the prayer?" He replied, "The Musalla (place of the prayer) is ahead of you (in Al-Muzdalifa).

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Why Are Whole Nations no Longer Punished?
Both the Bible and the Qur'an relate how God destroyed the people of Prophet Lot and Prophet Noah. Noah's people refused to abandon their idolatry and evil ways and embrace Islam, even though he called upon them do so for centuries, and so God destroyed them by a great flood. Lot's people consistently ignored his warnings to abandon their lustful and perverted ways, and so God destroyed them with fire and brimstone.
To answer this question, we have to go back in history. Beginning with Adam, the first man, God has sent Prophets to invite His servants to the right path and eternal bliss. All Messengers were responsible only for their own people. However Prophet Muhammad, the last Prophet, was sent for all humanity and creation. His people, defined as all Muslims regardless of when and how they embraced Islam, are known as his community.
Today, many Muslims and non-Muslims are committing sins that were unheard of during earlier times. But since the Prophet was sent to humanity, we are shielded from the total annihilation or punishment visited upon earlier peoples: But God will not send them a punishment while you are among them. Nor is He going to send it while they continue to ask for pardon (8:33).
Another Qur'anic verse enlightens us about his mission's generality and comprehensiveness as well as the greatness and significance of his person. Jesus is quoted as entreating on behalf of his people: If you punish them, they are Your servants—If you forgive them, You are the Exalted in Power, the Wise (5:118). On the other hand, the All-Mighty said to Prophet Muhammad: "I will not send a punishment while you are among them and while they ask for My forgiveness."
Thus the Prophet's community has two important shields against Divine Wrath: the Prophet's physical (during his lifetime) and spiritual (after his death) presence, and the existence of sincere believers who seek His forgiveness and are allowed to do so by those in power.
Many hadith record the Prophet's frequent pleading for his community's salvation. One such prayer was made at 'Arafat and Muzdalifa during his Farewell Pilgrimage. There he asked God, among other things, not to punish his community. Some of his prayers were accepted and some were not. His Companions narrated his words as follows:
I asked God not to send a Divine Punishment upon my community. He accepted my prayer and replied: "I will not send a punishment upon them, but they will cause destruction among themselves. If they become sinners, I will let them quarrel and fight among themselves." Then I asked God again to lift such things from my community, but He did not agree to this.
In conclusion, whole peoples will not be destroyed as long as sincere believers among the sinful multitudes worship and serve God, spread His Name and Word, seek His forgiveness, and strive to reform themselves and others.

My question is about Prophet Muhammad's (peace and blessings be upon him) proposing a divorce to Sawda (one of his wives) because of her slowness and laziness in relation to his young wives. However, Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) does not accept it and wants to remain as his wife. How should we understand Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) seeing his wife lazy?
There is some information about Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) wanting to divorce Sawda. However, the reason for this is not that she was old or behaved slowly.
Sawda is the daughter of Zem'a who belongs to Amir b. Luay, a branch of the tribe of Quraysh. Sawda was married to Sakran, the brother of Suhayl b. Amr. She accepted Islam before her husband and played an important role in her husband's choosing Islam. At the time when Muslims were severely tortured in Mecca, Sakran and his wife emigrated to Abyssinia but he died there some time later.
Sawda returned to Mecca after her husband's death. At this time, Khadija, the first wife of the Prophet, had just died. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had children who needed care. The Prophet, who named the year of Khadija's death as 'the year of sadness' was having a troubled time. He was left alone. This situation of the Prophet was felt by everybody. Hawla, the daughter of Hakim and the wife of Uthman b. Maz'un, saw the sadness of the Prophet and proposed to find a partner for him, and he assented. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was very much affected by the loyalty to faith Sawda had shown and as a result of the respect and high value that he attached to her, he proposed to marry her. Sawda was at the age of fifty when she married the Prophet. The marriage took place three years before the Hijra (migration from Mecca to Madinah). For the marriage, the Prophet went to the home of Sawda and her father performed the marriage ceremony. The mihr (money given to the wife before marriage by the husband) given by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to his wife was worth four hundred dirhams. Sawda had a brother who was initially a polytheist but afterwards chose the rightful religion.
After the marriage, Sawda looked after the children of the Prophet and brought them up with mother's mercy.
Sawda, who earned the honor of being the second wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), died in 640 AD (19, of the Hegira) at the time of the Caliph Umar, according to the soundest narration.
As is seen, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took this righteous old lady under his care, who had separated from her relatives and joined the group of believers and who did not ever want to return back to polytheism in which her relatives believed; and the Prophet did this only because she was loyal to Allah and His religion, and he thus gave her the honor of being the mother of believers.
Sawda was tall and heavy in body and in her actions. As she could not move fast, she asked for permission to set out from Muzdalifa before anyone else in the Final Pilgrimage of the Prophet. On the other hand, one of the most important assets of Sawda was her generosity. In this matter, she was the first among the Prophet's wives after Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). One day, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a bag to Sawda. Sawda asked what was in the bag. When she learnt that it was money, she commanded it to be distributed to the poor.
One of the points which distinguished her from the other wives of the Prophet was her ultimate obedience. Moreover, Sawda is among those who narrated hadiths from the Prophet. However, the hadiths narrated by her are not more than five. Bukhari took one of these hadiths in his book. Abdullah b. Abbas, Yahya b. Adurrahman and As'ad b. Zurara narrated hadiths from Sawda.
Before her death, Sawda bequeathed her room to her friend Aisha, who lived in the next room to hers. By this way, Aisha had the chance to widen her place, which was quite limited as the Prophet was buried on one side of her room.
In As-Siratu'n-Nabawiya by Ibn Hisham, one of the most important sources of the history of Islam, there are some narrations apart from those above. According to this book, some time after the marriage, Sawda caused some delay in the Prophet's relations with his daughters. Again in the same source, the event in which the Prophet decides to divorce Sawda is also mentioned. It is narrated that when Sawda sees Suhayl b. Amr, the brother of her deceased husband, among the prisoners of Badr War with his hands tied, she said: “O Aba Yazid! How did you surrender? Could you not die with your honor?” When the Prophet heard this, he said: “Sawda! Do you oppose Allah and His Messenger?” Sawda replied: “O Messenger of Allah! I swear to Allah Who has sent you as the rightful Prophet that I could not help saying this when I saw Abu Yazid like that.” Thereupon, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) intended to divorce Sawda, but she pleaded: “O Prophet, do not divorce me! Keep me in your wedlock; show me mercy! Do not let me drift into oblivion!” Then the Prophet accepted her wish. Islamic sources are of the same opinion that after this event, their marriage continued without any problem.
In short, Sawda is a lady who alleviated the sadness of the Prophet upon Khadija's death, who did the housework, who fulfilled the duty of motherhood for six children and most importantly who earned the title 'the mother of the believers'.
