I once found that advice here but I have no idea who said (if anyone knows let me know. I like giving credits /proper sources) : pick two people and pray fo them every day (or every prayer) during ramadan. Don't tell them.
I think it's a lovely way to give a beautiful anonymous gift to someone. It's also a reminder that this holy month isn't only about bettering our own selves but also doing good to others. It also links you to someome in a special secret way.
It doesn't matter if the person you are praying for muslim or not, friend or foe, a stranger or your spouse. It's up to you to decide what to ask God for them. The important thing is to keep it up every day during Ramadan.

You are the mentor for every oppressed. The teacher for every depressed. The guider to every distressed.
