I totally forgot that I had this book about Madina in my book collection. I found it last night and it was such a peaceful read that I couldn’t stop flipping through the pages. My sister was even shocked I had this book.
I hope you had a lovely and are having a lovely week as well 🤍✨

anyway in the past week the irish government has voted down two motions which would have condemned the genocide in gaza.
i need everyone to stop lionising ireland as if its not also a european government with strong ties to the us. american weapons pass through shannon airport and will continue to, because yesterday the motion to stop that was voted down 83 to 50.
other governments have done much more but somehow people still act as though ireland is the ultimate palestinian ally and exempt from criticism on its handling of palestine bc it was once colonised, even though that past experience clearly isnt being taken into account by the irish government when creating policy.
i live here i know there’s a lot of public support and sympathy for palestine, which is great, but that isnt reflected in government, and i think ireland should be treated like other countries whose governments have done nothing.

kruszyniany mosque in kruszyniany, poland. this is the oldest lipka tatar mosque in poland.
the town of kruszyniany was assigned to tatars who participated on the side of the polish-lithuanian commonwealth in their war against the ottoman empire. after lipka tatars settled in the city, they built this mosque, most likely in the late eighteenth century; though there are documents which mention it going back to 1717. the village was settled by repatriates and belarusian muslims following world war ii.

For a friend who wanted links to some posts I made about antisemitism, allyship, and how to support Palestine without being antisemitic—which is both possible and easy to do!
How do you know if you’re antisemitic?
How to be a good ally for Jewish people. I responded to a wonderful ask from @faggotry-enjoyer about how to be a better ally and to discuss Israel/Palestine with people who are inclined to distrust Jews due to unexamined antisemitism.
Important post about the dangers faced by Jews as an extreme minority. There are good examples in the reblogs and replies and tags—both of great ways for non-Jews to provide support as well as if antisemites denying their own antisemitism. Therese even one example of ways Jews can and do disagree with each other while remaining respectful without delving into antisemitism OR Islamophobia OR denying the rights and dignity of Palestinians. Jews can do this and so can non-Jews. But that can’t happen if people hate us too much to listen to anything we have to say.
The emotional toll of antisemitism on Jewish people.
Example of the death threats we get that are designed to make us look like bad guys.
If Jews can learn about the Holocaust in detail before we even reach the age of ten, you can and should too.
Don’t trust people who rely on bad sources. People do make genuine mistakes. Here’s an example of bad faith link sharing. Especially when Reblogging things. Even I don’t have time to always check every source in a post. Also, it’s possible that a link seemed legitimate when it was originally posted but the source is either no longer trustworthy or the OP got better at assessing sources. If an error in their original sourcing is pointed out, they should correct it publicly. If they are sharing a link as an OP they should always take time to be as responsible as possible.
There are plenty more posts under my #leftist antisemitism tag to look into about a variety of ways that antisemitism manifests in left wing circles.
Allies, please reblog with any posts you think relevant for a someone new to dismantling their antisemitism.

Another bewildering assertion I've seen floating around is that the United States of America deliberately destabilises West Asia and North Africa, murders millions of civilians, destroys towns and cities, arms militias &c. because of Islamophobia. I assure you that this is not true and that no one who is serious about understanding geopolitics or Islamophobia has this analysis. Islamophobia may have early modern or pre-modern instantiations, but in its current context it is very much a result of and a rhetorical and social justification for the geopolitical, economic, resource-driven exigencies of imperial capitalism. You're looking at a cart and insisting that it is pulling a horse around

shoutout to nonbinary/agender/otherwise gender nonconforming people who choose to wear cultural clothing typically associated with a certain gender!
jews who wear kippot, muslims who wear hijabs and burqas and niqābs and jilbābs and kimars, sihks who wear turbans, just to name a few!
whether you're wearing these because you have a connection to the gender associated with the article of clothing, or if you wear them because you want to challenge gender roles, or if youre just used to wearing them and don't think your gender should stop you from continuing, or any other reason, i think you all rule!!! im actually a nonbinary jew who wears kippot :] rock on!
and to those who are forced to wear these things, i hope one day you all are in a place where you can have the freedom of choice

lesbian and queer fashion includes hijabs, niqabs, burqas, and other religious and cultural clothing. queer muslims, queer jewish people, queer people of color, should not have to choose between their faith and their presentation. they do not need to sacrifice their cultural clothing in order to satisfy western standards of queer gender presentation. butch and femme muslims, jewish people, and poc who wear niqabs, burqas, niqabs, yarmulkes, etc- are not “straying” from lesbian fashion or culture, they are adding to it and making it more rich and beautiful. all sapphics deserve to feel safe in their head coverings. if you’re a sapphic who wears head coverings/body coverings or cultural clothing of some sort, you are valuable and beautiful just as you are.

White liberals really need to get the fact that not everything that isn't white and Christian is 'uwu pure can do no wrong', through their head.
Stop treating other cultures as if they aren't incapable of harm, this may be shocking but people who aren't white are capable of oppression, religions that aren't Christianity have done just as much harm in countries where they dominate.
Do you guys not see the inherent racism in treating other cultures as this 'other' that is incapable of the violent acts white people are capable of? In trying to link any and every problem back to Christian white men while refusing other causes? It's gross and uncomfortable, enough of this.
You've made progressive spaces actively hostile to so many people who desperately need them in an attempt to be good and inclusive of everything, I'm sick of it.
You've let facists and r.adfems monopolize any criticism of other cultures and religions, do you see why so many victims of abuse by other cultures and religions end up joining such spaces? Hell knows if I didn't have such wonderful queer figures in my life who helped me figure out my own gender, I could've ended up down the r.adfem pipeline, and fuck is that a terrifying thought.

The more I think about what’s happening, the more I start worrying about the effect everything is going to have on the Muslim diaspora, especially in western countries. So look, I know we’re all really raw and horrified and scared right now, but check in on your Muslim friends, because odds are, they’re scared, too.
