With Ramadan coming up,
I do want to make a few changes. I think more so for myself than anything else.
I don't want to speak to the opposite gender anymore. I understand that in this day and age because we work, I have to keep up an appearance, but this is where I draw the 'friend' and 'colleague/acquaintance' line.
I used to think being liberal and religious was such a good thing, but when my liberalism prevents me from becoming a good Muslim, then my mindset has to change.
I'm not going to be awesome at this, especially since I do not wear a hijab (yet), but I have to make changes. I want to pray more and wake up for tahajjud as much as I can. I strive to wake up everyday but my health is not any better so it becomes hard for me to wake up. Pray that i'm able to change that.
I am trying to limit my music and listen to more Quran. I say 'listen' more because it is easier for me to listen than to read it. At least i'll find some peace while listening to it and during nights when I am able to, I can read and reflect over what I have listened to.
I think the main thing for me is, I don't want to mix with the opposite gender anymore. It used to be 'cool' when I was a girl, but now, Islamic wise, it is not a good thing.
I'm trying to delete my face off any social media I may have, to preserve what I can in whicever way.
It's just the first step, but I only ask that you pray for me. I am tryng, and forgive me if i've done anything wrong. Or if i've said anything wrong. I wish this realization had hit me years ago, then perhaps things would be different for me.

Ms. Marvel Episode 4: Seeing Red
Laal Khanjeer! an exploration of cultural disconnection and insecurity and complex grandmother mother daughter relationships!! a SWANA country depicted WITHOUT THE GAUDY YELLOW FILTER??!!
this show…this brilliant show always knows the way to my heart.
and they DID end up heavily softening that Djinn thing I was worried about before by explaining that yes it’s just a lack of a better word term used to describe these inter-dimensional beings who are similar to Djinn of Islamic belief but aren’t actually those very things. another win!

I know those editors must not be the most thorough but I just *have* to say that Ghostmaker's name is supposed to be written as "Minh Khoa" or "Minh-Khoa" guys...because it's Vietnamese and we've been running around trying to figure what the heck his last name was supposed to be from or how would his name make sense as a whole since he's supposed to be Singaporean with a Viet name and a Muslim last name.
Like I love him but DC please walk me through the process what's his specific background who are his parents and WHY this name.
SEAsian king btw no doubts.

I started watching Evil and it’s exactly what I need right now. Literal monster of the week but pretty much no cops is the dream. I’m only 5 episodes into s1 but I’m loving it. Ben is my fave, but also I love the demon and everyone else the cast has great chemistry. I’m hoping they lean into the supernatural more as the show goes on. Can’t believe CBS is producing something this good tbh.
exactly! The King's said procedural but no cops only fucked up sleep paralysis demons and social commentary about religion and the true evils of systematic oppression (which is probably why the show is no longer on cbs lmao)
anyway glad you're enjoying it!

People do not realize that when we say Israel is a settler-colonial state, we mean it was literally devised in junction with European imperialism around the turn of the century.
Political Zionism was founded by Theodore Herzl. Originally, Zionists were not specifically interested in the land of Palestine as a colonial project. In fact, Herzl was debating making Argentina the focus of mass Zionist migration, which is quite ironic considering Argentina's colonial and Aryanist past. British-controlled Uganda was also offered as a possibility by Joseph Chamberlain, a Conservative imperialist.
To encourage mass Jewish migration to Palestine, he worked with the British, who had recently drove the Ottoman Empire out of the Levant, and now boasted political dominance in the region, thanks to the Sykes–Picot Agreement between the UK, France, Italy, and Russia which covertly authorized British influence in Palestine, which had become a target of colonial expansion. He specifically wished to collaborate with Cecil Rhodes, a British imperialist who played a lead role in colonizing Zimbabwe and Zambia, and later took inspiration from his time spent extracting wealth from Africa as the founder of mining conglomerate the British South Africa Company.
Herzl’s personal goals for Zionism were colonial. He said in a letter to Rhodes:
“You are being invited to help make history. It doesn’t involve Africa, but a piece of Asia Minor; not Englishmen but Jews […] How, then, do I happen to turn to you since this is an out-of-the-way matter for you? How indeed? Because it is something colonial […] I […] have examined this plan and found it correct and practicable. It is a plan full of culture, excellent for the group of people for whom it is directly designed, and quite good for England, for Greater Britain [...]”
At that time, Palestine was predominately populated with Arab Muslims and Christians, as well as Arab Jews (Old Yishuv) and Druze. Jews made up around 6% of the population. The Ottoman government specifically released a manifesto at the start of Zionist migration condemning the colonization, stating:
“[Jews] among us […] who have been living in our province since before the war; they are as we are, and their loyalties are our own.”
The Balfour Declaration of 1917 on behalf of parliament, officially established the British Mandate of Palestine, sowing the seeds for the modern state of Israel, by means of the UK's ongoing occupation of the region.
Zionism was never about promoting Jewish culture or safety; it has always been tied up in Western (settler-)colonial expansion. !من النهر إلى البحر

I want to make a post about the situation in Sweden so that people know what's going on. I know everyone is talking about the queen dying and how that will destroy the UK financially and the like, and it was 9/11, but.
Tumblr media
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/11/swedish-election-exit-polls-far-right
The election here was yesterday and the preliminary results indicate that our second biggest party, SverigeDemokraterna, one rooted in nazism and fascism, will have a lot of influence over the country the next 4 years. They're one of Europe's biggest extreme right parties and the biggest in the world to be nazis through and through.
Things are going to be hell for racial minorities, immigrants, refugees, disabled folks, Muslims, Jews, the LGBTQ+ (especially trans), women and people/families with low income.
I'm not going to lie, I'm terrified. I'm exhausted. I've stayed up well past midnight on weekdays trying to get people to vote left and to make as much noise and make it known what the conservatives are doing to us and to get more engaged politically.
But I'm working against the grain here, what with our newstations and general media gave SverigeDemokraterna so much attention (positive and negative). Plus, the other traditionally conservative parties also rallied HARD for them, to the point that they got bigger than them.
This won't mean I'll give up and cower, I can't afford that. But it means that things are terrifying for those of us who are especially racial minorities. Because the nazis will get inspired by the results to get more active out there and cause so much damage.
Sweden has excellent PR. You wouldn't know these things because they make sure to seem like a small and peaceful country that is the posterchild for equality. But it's far from it. And It's only going downhill from here. I could list all of the truly heinous things that have been going on here the past few years but we would be here forever.
What I want to say though, is that Sweden has a truly revolting racism problem. Maybe not to the extent of the US, but it's not good. We were the forefathers of race biology after all. And that has ultimately paved the road for this election result.
If you see this, please reblog and share. More people deserve to know the truth about the state of this country.

Jewish (Sephardic) couple from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1910
The first Jews came to Sarajevo, later called "Little Jerusalem", from the Iberian Peninsula in the early 16th century, bringing with them the Ladino language and Sephardi customs. A prosperous Jewish quarter with a synagogue was erected in 1577 under the pasha Siavush. Known to the Bosnians as tchifut-khan, the Jews themselves called it El Cortijo (the communal yard). Making up more than 20% of Sarajevo' total population, they maintained excellent relations with their Bosnian Christian and Muslim neighbors and held renowned positions as merchants, weavers, tailors, blacksmiths and hatchims (from the Arabic-Turkish Hakīm, "doctor"). With the Holocaust, this rich Jewish life and history tragically came to an end.

someone on r/jewish said this better than me but yes while there is change rn, people are more willing to criticise and see how awful governments are and are actively participating in boycotts (usually people are so unable to boycott that they still listen to abusers like chris brown so def some change here) and that is good i have to admit it BUT.
the issue is something i saw during BLM as well (2020/that time period) is that change is happening but the reasons are wrong.
EXAMPLES: 1) people are becoming more critical of celebs: GOOD!!!! oh wait they're making lists of "good" and "bad" like fucking nazis. oh no. they're worshipping and idealising every celeb who goes "israel bad." OH NO. (there's this anti-black korean "rapper" called jay park who people are now supporting and loving cause he "supports" palestine....)
2) YES people are finally supporting palestine after ignoring them for years and years and speaking out against western media bias of only criticising hamas and not the israeli gov: GOOD!!!! oh no: people are now becoming pro hamas to battle the bias and believing stories that hamas treated the hostages like angels and that they never did anything bad 😟
3) YES people are finally battling the dehumanisation of palestinians !!!! oh no: their goal now is to dehumanise the israeli people to fight white supremacy when dehumanisation of any group works in the favour of white supremacy !!!!
4) YES people are upset about the treatment of palestinians on the land they also have a connection to!!!! oh no: they're battling this by denying any jewish connection to the land and want to remove all israeli people from the land and remove israel from existence
5) YES people are atoning for what they did to muslims after 9/11 and finally standing up for them !!!! oh no: jews are taking the spot as "inherently evil"
conclusion: i hate people saying "change is real" and acting like the world is so much more progressive than it actually is. i can appreciate and respect the few good changes but to act like everyone is being radicalised is horrifying to me. i keep seeing people push this narrative that gen z (my gen) are soooo progressive when we are not the progressive radicals they are painting us to be. everyone's falling for propaganda and bigotry wrapped as "progressive" and "radical". no one fucking reads and relies heavily on random people on tiktok and twitter to provide info that they will just accept without a thought (i'm sorry but that decolonisepalestine.carrd.co thing still annoys me because people need to be baby fed info....but at the same time i understand palestinians need to do what they can to spread info.)
this is a great dissection of a glaring issue in modern progressive circles: the widespread inability to acknowledge that more than one thing can be true & multiple important causes can be acknowledged at the same time.
i think this type of black & white thinking is human nature to some degree (it's easier to split the world into good/evil than acknowledge nuance), but further fueled by a few intrinsic elements of modern activism.
over-reliance on the internet as a primary source, which generates issues such as:
1. the prevalance of short-form content (you mentioned this, too) - you can only fit so much information into a tiktok or tweet, which is where many people get their "news" from.
2. the most emotional & outrageous posts (which tend to oversimplify topics/omit context) gaining the most traction - that's just how social media works.
3. lack of time/no motivation to take their activism offline & gather resources that aren't internet-based.
voices that should be heard are excluded due to oversimplification of the situation (effort is being made to listen to palestinians which is excellent, but people clap their hands over their ears when someone who is israeli or jewish starts talking.)
pressure to speak about an important issue results in individuals who are new to a topic talking about it before they've had chance to educate themselves, furthering the spread of bad think-pieces (this tends to be unintentional, but still deeply harmful.)
individuals are often criticised for having opinions that deviate from the majority view, even if said individual is ultimately fighting for the same cause.
thank you for sharing your thoughts, anon!

While I was looking into Fulla dolls, I found out another Muslim fashion doll was released around the same time!
Tumblr media
Meet Razanne! (And be prepared for a loooooong deep dive under the Keep Reading lol)
From what I've been able to piece together from various sources, she was created by Palestinian-American Ammar Saadeh and his wife Noor in 1996, being initially launched through the internet before more publicly advertised to Middle-Eastern and American audiences in 2004. Their goal was to show Muslim girls that "what matters is what's inside you, not how you look" (quoted from an interview with Greensoboro News and Record). They wanted to give them a role model with an emphasis on education and religion, while also having a career! To reflect the diversity of the global Muslim ummah, each of her dolls came in three variants: Pakistani-Indian (olive skin w/ dark hair), Black (dark skin w/ dark hair), and Caucasian (fair skin w/ fair hair).
While unfortunately she's no longer in production, the WayBack machine has a record of all her dolls released through the Noorart website! Each doll listing also includes additional information to educate on Islamic culture!
Tumblr media
First there's Schoolgirl Razanne, whose listing reads:
"Razanne loves school and is all ready with her bright red book bag to join her friends in class. For your information…Traditional uniforms are worn by schoolgirls in Islamic schools. In addition to the usual subjects, students also study the Arabic language and the Qur'an - the Muslim Holy Book."
Tumblr media
Next we have Teacher Razanne, whose listing reads:
"What is a more honorable and specialized career than education? Our teacher Razanne comes full equipped with lap top computer, briefcase and all the necessary items for school. For your information... Many Muslim girls study to become educators. Two-piece suits with jacket and skirt are popular styles for Muslim women who work outside the home as teachers or other professionals."
Tumblr media
There's Playday Razanne, who unlike the prior two came with no accessories, her listing reads:
"Dressing modestly doesn't keep Razanne from having fun! On the playground, Razanne plays in her scarf and a loose fitting jumper that gives her lots of room to run and jump. For your information... Dressing modestly doesn't prevent Muslim girls from having fun outdoors! Whether biking, skating, on the playground or at the park children manage to have fun no matter where they are!"
Tumblr media
We also have a Muslim Scout Razanne, who came with a free audiotape of Muslim Scout Cheers and a preview of We Love Muhammad! Her listing reads:
"'I'm honest, kind and trustworthy.' Muslim Scouts' organizations all over the world help build character and skills for success in this life and the next. Razanne wears her merit badges and awards earned for community service, Islamic behavior and Qur'an memorization. Respect for Allah, parents and all members of the community are a top priority with Razanne. For your information…like all Scout troops, Muslim Scouts are encouraged to excel in personal attributes such as honesty, cooperation and leadership as well as taking an active part in community service and environmental protection."
Tumblr media
Next up there's Eid Mubarak Razanne, which came two different color variants for her outfit, her listing reading:
"Razanne is all ready to celebrate the Muslim holiday. Dressed in her new floral fashions of pink or blue, Razanne has Eid cards addressed to all her friends and is ready to deocorate the party with balloons. The perfect Eid gift for any girl! For your information… Muslims celebrate two major festivals each year. One is the Eid Al Fitr following the month-long fast of Ramadan. A second holiday occurs during the annual Pilgrimage to Makkah. Children and adults look forward to these two special days with great anticipation. Before the Eid the entire family goes out shopping for new clothes to wear for Eid Day. Early Eid morning the family meets with other members of the community for an Eid Prayer then disperse to family gatherings and other celebrations. Children are often given gifts of toys or money and families exchange delectable sweets that differ according to the region in which they live. Muslims exchange greetings of Eid Mubarak,"Eid Congratulations", Eid Saeed, "Happy Eid" and wish each other a coming year full of God's blessings. Kul 'am wa anta bi khair!"
Tumblr media
I wasn't able to find any other images for Prayer Razanne like the others unfortunately, and apparently she came with accessories too! Her listing reads:
"Allahu Akbar! God is the Greatest! It's time to pray and Razanne is ready! When it's time for prayer, many Muslim girls cover their everyday clothes with these traditional two-piece garments and stand to pray on colorful prayer rugs. We receive so many letters from customers that tell us that Razanne usually joins the family for salah! For your information… when it's time for prayer, many Muslim girls cover their everyday clothes with these traditional two-piece garments and stand to pray on colorful prayer rugs. Muslim women may pray in congregation at the Mosque but it is often more convenient to pray the five daily prayers at home."
Tumblr media
And finally we have In And Out Razanne, whose listing reads:
"In and Out Razanne comes with a two-piece fashion set for wear inside and outside the home. At home Razanne loves to dress in all the latest fashions. In a minute she can be ready to go out with this traditional jilbaab coat. Razanne helps Muslim girls understand that in the home they can be the ultimate fashion statement yet still have attractive attire while dressing modestly outside the home. For your information…Razanne helps Muslim girls understand that in the home they can be the ultimate fashion statement yet still have attractive attire while dressing modestly outside the home."
I'm honestly so glad I found this, because doing research into this doll has been a blast! I love the vintage vibes of her outfits with the patterns and color choices, and it makes me really happy seeing this doll being used as an educational tool for Islamic culture and practices!
Thank you to limbedolls.blogspot.com, emel.com, Greensboro News and Record, and "Framing Muslims" by Peter Morey and Amina Yaqin for the information that went into this long-ass post!
Ramadan Kareem!
