Ms Marvel EP 1 <3
Introduction? Splendid! 10/10, No. 100/10. The music, the little video Kamala made, the whole “I am an aspiring YouTuber”? She is doing it like a pro, and of course algorithm is a bitch and doesn’t make her instantly famous.
Driving lesson. OMG. OMG. I laughed. I am sorry Kamala, but I laughed so hard. That is like a splendid bad luck to hit INSTRUCTOR’S car xD
Is Kamala autistic or has ADHD? Because doodling during class? So relatable. It helps you focus! And is super nice for bored brain.
Oh yeah, the gossiping older women. Marriage, the most important thing in woman’s life. Hobbies? Nope. Hobbies baaad. Like goddammit.
Zuzu is better than Siri. Please make more.
One: I didn’t know Kamala has an older brother. Two: It is so true that sons can do everything, but daughters? Oh no, we parent must protecc, because strangers attacc. Protect your sons too, damn. Or give equality.
Aamir! I love you for supporting Kamala, but EXCUSE YOU I am 28, and I have TONS of plushies in my room! They’re nice!
I love how they used the town and the gizmos in Kamala room to show her and Bruno texting. That was so clever!
If anybody is cringe in this series, it’s Kamala’s parents xD Why the Hulk?
I feel so much for Kamala feeling that everybody treats her hobbies as something for kids, too childish which she should abandon. I am not Pakistani. I am slavic, and in my country? Everything cool. Games, Cosplay, Anime and Manga, is treated like something childish and not something we should be interested in. They don’t get it. They, meaning all the adults older than me in my parents age group, are acting as if they had no hobbies, only work and future, work and future, and alcoholic libations and weddings. Nothing more beyond that, so Kamala’s pain is so relatable. She just wants her family to accept her as she is, but they don’t want to.
So... Kamala got her powers from some stuff they got from a family member in this universe? Did that person who sent it KNEW about this? And what was that whole “you know what happens to people like that” as if there was some weird family history related to Nani?
Tumblr media
Tony T.T
Bruno landed the role of a guy in a chair / tech sidekick :D
But I must say there was a split moment when Kamala’s eyes changed color to red even before she put the bracelet on, so it may be that the bracelet just unlocks and supports the already existing powers Kamala had? Though I still prefer her original powers. She is an Inhuman which can embiggen herself, but of course Marvel won’t introduce Inhumans, because it would be too much work to add Terrigen Myst and stuff even though they already had Inhumans in Agents of SHIELD. (They’re ignoring that show I suppose lol).
Also who is bringing Kamala in for what?! Who are those guys?! SHIELD? SWORD? NYPD? WHO ARE YOU?

Okay so let me tell you as an Indian kid who wants to get out and do stuff, Ms Marvel is a brilliant series, the episode 1 was so fucking perfect, from small little dialogues to all the restrictions and random relatives who you don't know telling you what to do and what you are, everything was ACCURATE. Every single detail literally felt so relatable to me and it means a lot to every brown girl out there that Marvel is doing this.

*SPOILERS*
Wait, are Kamala and Bruno gonna be a thing? Cause, don't get me wrong, Bruno seems like a nice kid and he's very supportive of her passions and hobbies. It's just that this is such a trope that happens so many times, especially in teen shows and movies. It's the "childhood friend to lover" trope. Like, for some reason the main character has to get into a romantic relationship with the best friend. Why can't it just be platonic or like a sibling relationship?
Then again, looking it up, they do date in the comics, so this looks like it's unavoidable.
Also, I'll be honest, I was confused about the "it's not really the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world" when it was shown in the trailer. Cause I thought anyone can be a hero and there's nothing that's stopping her to become one. But, seeing it in context, I kinda get it. It seems like her parents and maybe her community is restricting her to become what she wants to be.

I'm about to start watching Ms. Marvel and I am so excited!!!
I never got around to reading any of the Ms. Marvel comics due to one thing or another so I'm jumping into this show without much of an idea about anything beyond what I've acquired via osmosis so yeah.
Why Thor is secretly a gamer 🤣🤣 I'd LOVE to watch that production tbh!
She's having a paratha for breakfast! Now i kinda want one too even though its the middle of the night
Okay for some reason, the mom doesn't seem to have the right accent. She sounds like she's got an Indian immigrant's accent more than a Pakistani one. Ugh, this is probably gonna annoy me but I guess we'll see.
The dad did a good job though.
Kamina kahee ka. Rotflmao 🤣🤣🤣
Kamala starting to daydream 30 seconds after Mr. Wilson starts speaking is kinda exactly like how I was in uni half the time 😂
*gasp* WHERE is the plastic wrap on the remote??? Why is there no plastic wrap on the remote? That's just about the most desi thing ever!
So the mom knew about the bracelet thing I'm guessing.
Also koko koreena! Omg i haven't heard that one in ages!
Wedding shopping is such a hassle and i can empathize with Kamala on that. Especially with all the bags she's carrying for her mom 😂😂
Chaaaiiiii!!!
Kamala! No, don't leave you chai! You can have it as you text!
Awwww... I thought he looked adorable as the Hulk.
And yup, the mom's accent is really really bugging me
Lmao, Aamir's haircut in that photograph brings back so many memories 🤣🤣
Gahhhhh, I can't, i cannot stand the mom's accent. Like there isn't anything bad about it per se but it does NOT mesh with the way I pictured how she ought to sound in my head and it just takes me out of the show and I can't switch off the bit in my brain going she doesn't sound right long enough to enjoy her parts 😭
I do LOVE the way her powers are visualized in this though. The whole glowy geometric thing is pretty awesome.
Also, I guess we had our first glimpse of the antagonists in the post credits. They might get relegated to secondary antagonists down the road maybe?
Overall, I did enjoy the episode and the whole vibe they're going for. I like Kamala's character and the relationship she's got with her parents and brother and i can already see the way they'll butt head in the coming episodes and I can't wait to see if my guesses will hit their marks. I won't be posting any predictions just yet though.

Am I the only who noticed how dramatic the Avengercon scene was? Like I'm pretty sure that's not how physics work. And there was definitely no way Zoe hung on Mjolnir for that long. Idk maybe it's just me☠️

I would eat up a well written, high budget, 22-24 episode season of Young Avengers. Just hear me out.
In the comics, the YA are formed by Iron Lad (a child Kang variant) in the absence of the Avengers. Iron Lad forms the team to stop older Kang (aka what he is going to become).
Let's keep this as an underlying season long plot. It gives us time and development for Kang with minimal Majors - obviously, a younger actor would play Iron Lad.
The 22-24 episode season gives us a ton of time to get to know characters we met (Stature, Ms. Marvel, Kate, America), characters we kinda know (Patriot, the Maximoff Twins), and new characters.
The whole time, we're getting to see everyone develop as heroes while seeing their real lives as teenagers. Character development is the name of the game in this fake show. How are they balancing their two lives? Who's screwing things up? Who's got it figured out?
Fun and logical cameos from the adult heroes. Maybe an episode takes the team to a location that another hero already looks after.
Give me some team romance and teen drama.
Give me an of the week format. Mystery of the week. Monster of the week. Nothing that requires significant adult Avenger interference. Mostly low-stakes conflict.
Hints of the Iron Lad/Kang conflict are sprinkled throughout and eventually dealt with in the finale.
The Marvels/Loki 2.6 spoilers below
Kid Loki continues the Loki tradition of reluctant Kang/Loki alliances. He shows up with Iron Lad through whatever multiversal shenanigans get Iron Lad here.
Honestly, let God of Stories Loki/the TVA have helped to orchestrate this whole thing somehow. Just hint at it.
Maybe it's just Kate and Kamala at first. In episode 1 they add Cassie. We see other characters in their own stories being solo heroes; maybe they are recruited later, maybe they go the the YAs asking to join.

ms marvel season 1 thoughts
It's definitely for a younger audience, but in a delightful way if you're in the mood for that? The teen drama, friendships, first crushes are all handled well and fit with the family drama and mystery of Kamala's powers.
I was impressed by how--while doing an MCU project owned by a corporation as shitty as Disney--the writers managed to bring across sincere themes from Kamala's family, community, and their past. It's very much a story about generations of women over time and across boundaries and as we learn more about Kamala's grandmother and great-grandmother the story really finds its heart. I loved episode 5 best because there's a "fairy tale" style star-crossed romance.*
I'm excited for a second season. My only issue with s1 was that a 6 episode run wasn't enough space to do everything they clearly wanted to do - there was a sub-plot with her best friend Nakia that I wanted to see more of, for example. I hope s2 is more like 8 episodes.
[1x05 spoilers below]
*Aisha, the magical person from another realm, falling in love with Hasan, a sweet ordinary human man who grows flowers??? ?????? And then losing each other???? That killed me. They're such a lovely couple.

What if...Kang kidnapped Kamala Khan?
Tumblr media
(SPOILERS FOR ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA)
So after watching Quantumania and thinking of the possibilities of where Kang could show up next, I came up an idea that would work well in a What If…? Episode.
So my idea around a What If…? for Kang revolves around two things:
1: Kamala Kahn/Ms. Marvel time traveling back to the night of the partition to save her grandmother Sana as a child during the Partition.
2: Kang’s multiversal ship having neurokinetic capabilities, including storing all of his memories and past events inside of it.
From there, I pitch you my idea:
[In this universe, when Kamala Khan travels back in time to the night of the Partition, instead of immediately traveling back to the present, her Bangle locks onto an energy signature in the Quantum Realm (Kang’s Ship) as Kang during this time tried to experiment different ways to escape with the help of Darren Cross/M.O.D.O.K.
Because of this, Kamala instead gets transported into the Quantum Realm, and because of the colliding energies from the ship and the Bangle, Kamala’s arrival causes her memory to be locked inside the ship, giving her memory loss.
This, while shocking to Kang, does provide him with a both means to escape and to ascend in power. So now he’s able to convince the now amnesiac Kamala into joining his side, training her to be a more ruthless and hardened version of herself aptly named…Kamala Kang.
Now, after amassing their forces, they use the Bangle to escape from the Quantum Realm and into their main universe with only one goal in mind: to conquer.]
I know it’s a bit of a stretch here and there, but I do think it would be quite an interesting idea to help tie What If…? Seasons 2 & 3 into the grander future of the Multiverse Saga. Plus, seeing a villain like Kang turn Kamala Khan into a darker version of herself would be intriguing twist on the hero-protege trend of recent MCU projects.
IDK, let me know what you guys think! Hope you like it!

I really did just type up a whole thing about today's Ms Marvel episode only for Tumblr to just eat it, huh.
ANYWAY. Here goes it again.
I'm so glad this episode gave Nakia more screentime! And she is a delight! I love that she's running for the Mosque Board and I'd totally vote for her if I could. And her manipulating Yusuf like that was absolutely hilarious. I also loved her mini-speech about why she wears her hijab.
Pretty interesting that the episode touched on a problem some (maybe many? every masjid I've been to has had this problem) masjids have of leaving the women's prayer room in worse condition than the men's prayer room. Thankfully the masjid my family went to when I was growing up at least maintained the women's prayer room enough that it wasn't completely falling apart, but it was still less than 1/4th the size of the men's prayer room and it was completely bare while the men's prayer room was elaborately decorated with golden calligraphy and art. I never thought that was very fair.
Speaking of things this episode touched on that I have personal experience with, the Bollywood talk was delightful. I may or may not have started playing the soundtracks to both Baazigar and DDLJ because of it. I'm with Kamala on this, I must say; I also prefer Baazigar to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. SRK is really good as a villain. I think DDLJ's songs are better overall, though. I kind of wonder what Kamran's least favorite Shah Rukh Khan movie is that he apparently mentioned offscreen.
Speaking of Kamran, it's interesting watching him here especially as someone who is very familiar with Kamala's comics, because from the moment I knew who he was here, I knew he'd be bad news. I wonder about his mom here, though, because in the comics, she wasn't really involved in Kamran's villainy at all. Between Kamran's involvement in this season considering in the comics, his whole deal (spoilers I guess?) was that he's an Inhuman supremacist, and the fact that the bracelet is specifically stated to have unlocked powers Kamala already had within her, as well as the mystery with Kamala's great-grandmother, I'm wondering if Kamala is gonna be an Inhuman in the MCU too.
The discussion of the trauma of Partition in this episode was greatly appreciated especially since it's really not something that gets discussed much if at all in history classes in the West. I don't have much personal family history with it really--my mom always said that our ancestors, despite being Muslim, probably never moved to Pakistan because Anantapur and Bangalore are very far from Karachi (for context, Anantapur and Bangalore are cities in southern India)--so honestly, I never really learned about it at all growing up.
I was surprised to hear the mention of the FBI already surveiling mosques, specifically because I was not expecting the MCU to even touch that.
I'm really looking forward to the next episode!

*SPOILERS*
Bruno's pretty creative. The guy basically made his own version of Alexa or Okay Google but without the voice.
And, the parents say no. That's a bummer. I do feel sorry for Kamala though. However, the fact that Muneeba freaks out about her daughter cosplaying as Captain Marvel? Imagine her reaction if she said Black Widow instead, she'd probably act even worse.😆 Seriously though, Kamala's right. Carol's costume isn't even that tight. It's not even form fitting or used for fanservice, it's just a suit that covers her body, leaving only the head exposed (except when she has her helmet on). I can relate to having parents that can worry about you a lot and don't want you to go to events so late. It's only when I was a young adult that I was able to go to cons. So, I can understand Kamala's frustration here.
Aamir seems like a nice brother as far as brothers go. He'll help his sister, but still teases her. I don't know if this is how he's like in the comics, so there might be some changes here too. And, the text sequence with the lights and the road is alright.

Spoilers for episode 1 of Ms Marvel:
Mom was too tough on her. But Dad getting made up as Hulk was sweet.
hi nancy!!
this is the classic story of most desi households haha my own wasn't too different. though i can kind of understand where her mother is coming from. she's afraid kamala might forget her roots and culture. at the same time i definitely feel like her mother knows something (see how quick she was to dismiss the wrist cuff as "junk" and hide it away, the numerous references to coming from a family of unrealistic dreamers, and her reaction when kamala came back from the party). so i'm curious to find out what the situation is with kamala's grandmother!
i LOVE abbu. LOVE him, he's so cute! the absolute dad-ness of him. his excitement over the zuzu system and then his annoyance (haunted by a djinn lmao). i won't lie, i got so upset when abbu was hurt by kamala, i almost cried myself. i guess adulthood means understanding the parents in tv shows more than the kids 🤣 anyway yes we need to protect abbu.
what did you think of it overall? personally i really REALLY enjoyed the cultural elements, i felt sooo seen. and the music! the song over the credits is by eva b, i adore her.
