More thoughts on TTPD and the track list
I keep seeing people saying the colour scheme is black and white. I do think white is going to be the associated colour but the cover is much more sepia. Like an old photograph. Goes with the evidence file/academia aesthetic. Rep was much more black and white to go with the newspaper visuals. And grey is obviously folklore. I think the colours being similar is for a reason. I could see it being thematically between folklore and rep. Sweet tortured love, but also sass and vengeance.
I like the fact that we’re getting a title track. Haven’t had one since evermore.
A lot of gaylors seem unhappy about the track titles and amount of male pronouns. If Lavender Haze has taught me anything it’s to WAIT FOR THE ACTUAL SONGS before making a snap judgement on the titles. I’m not excusing Lavender gate but all was in fact fine when the song came out. I trust the process with the music until we have whole songs. Not interested in judging titles.
However, I did find it interesting and totally unexpected that she dropped the whole track list two months in advance. No mystery or slow unveiling. Seems odd. Almost like the quick judgement on the breakup album branding is intentional….
Track 5 is So Long London. So it’s a sad song. Gaylors seem disappointed, and all the swifties collectively decided it’s a Joe breakup song. Could be. Maybe in an ironic way(like London Boy). But in British use of the phrase ‘so long’ it means ‘until I see you next’. Is that what you’d say to someone you’re breaking up with? 🤔 My mind immediately went to leaving a place you love and have good memories with until you can go there next. That’s what I felt when I moved from London to the countryside. Taylor lived in London for a year to recover from everything that was 2016 and to start the love blackout, just her and her lover away from the world. She’s often described that as her happiest year. I’m doing better than I ever was. So I could see it being a goodbye to the city that helped her recover from all of that, until I see you next. I’d love a homage to London song but that’s just me :)
And one more thought on the bait and switch that we all fell victim to 😉 I too totally thought rep tv was coming. But every day that album lives another day in its current form I’m honestly relieved. There’s so much at stake with rep and I don’t think we’re there yet. The rep vault tracks are what could be the karma album. And we all remember that the reputation album we know and love is the version that had its wings clipped. I really don’t think that, having got the chance to revisit this, Taylor would want to make another half truth version. If she’s gonna put her name to it, she’ll make it fly this time. And I don’t think we’re quite there yet. So I’m looking at this new album with a very open mind, because I know rep tv and/or karma are waiting for us when the time comes.

Picturing Billy in his early 50s crossing paths with Gator and seeing right through his bullshit macho posturing. Billy viscerally recalling himself in a similar position way back when and knowing the exact make and model of this stunted brat—and knowing exactly what he needs.

SPOILER for FOI
Look, I can see how Eddie blackmailing Higgins and him becoming confident enough for that to be the start for his lunchtime speeches. I can see him not always drug dealing and becoming the confident Eddie we all know love once people stop messing with him because he is now the local drug dealer. Don't fuck with your supplier right? I can see him not always being confident in himself. I can see him being a bitter teenager because he can't see what's right in front of him, I can see him not being the Eddie we all know and love because he was looking for his dad in the wrong place when he should have been looking at Wayne the entire time because I so know what it's like to seek approval from a parent who doesn't want you.

Some more thoughts on 'Morality Pets Redux'
Link to original post.
ONE still blows me away by how clearly he differentiates between manga and webcomic. There's a tradeoff that he respects: if the webcomic is short, sharp and to the point, then the characters have limitations in how they can interact, try things out, and grow. Conversely, if the manga is long to the point that it can take a long time for it to get to some sort of point, the characters have more scope to find themselves. He treats both versions with respect and if there's no scope for characters to change themselves, then they don't. Which is why we have two great stories to read! :D
There's no point in Tatsumaki changing in the webcomic because there's no one willing to have her in their lives. She's been so toxic that all Fubuki wants is to be left the hell alone, and even Saitama's gone 'eh, I've lost all interest' after she rebuffs his attempts to reach out very rudely. She notes that she ends up driving everyone away, but she's far from actually accepting that she needs to change. Tatsumaki in the manga has positive reasons to change -- she has a sister who wants to get along better with her. Doing so means accepting both her and the people around her, even if it's difficult and there are legitimate challenges. It's a hard pill to swallow but she's trying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really appreciate the difference between regretting the consequences of one's actions and being prepared to change one's actions. So human. If feeling bad about our actions was enough to change them, there'd be no anti-addiction or dieting services, counselling would be rare, and prisons would be all but empty.
Tumblr media
In both versions, Genos is the guy who wants ultimate destructive power and is willing to even kill himself if it'll take enemies to Hell with him. However, for a guy who is so committed to destruction, it's striking that he's cut to the quick when Sonic taunts him saying that he can't protect anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's no scope to explore this seeming contradiction in the webcomic. We need to accept that hey, he has places where he won't go and that's fine. The manga has more space, so ONE can dig into the protect vs. destroy issue and have him have to make decisions about what he actually values. The despair that lanced through him when victory slipped through his grasp when fighting Elder Centipede says so much about what matters:
Tumblr media
Something @carma-tjol said in their tags really added a lot to my understanding: they pointed to the link between Genos seeing himself as having value and changing his outlook on heroes from assets to people. It added so much salience to Fubuki refusing to run away and risking her life to save him because she didn't abandon her people. She really challenged his outlook.
Tumblr media
I like that he's still wrestling with himself after the fact. Had King not come when he did, it'd have been a lose-lose situation: Tatsumaki would be dead anyway and the monsters would be free to rampage over the land and kill millions. He needed to hear Saitama telling him he'd done right to feel a sense of peace. It's very human -- it's hard not to look back even when we see that we've made the right choice.
Tumblr media
Come to that, there was something that we'd (okay me and the small sharing circle of mutuals who talk too much about Genos) had been fearing: that Saitama would just note that Genos was broken again, the way he had in the webcomic. Remember this thread? It very nearly came to pass but for King intervening and vouching for Genos so that Saitama had to change the way he saw his disciple. Thank goodness.
If King hadn't been there, because Genos is actively questioning himself, the outcome of Saitama seeming to be dismissive wouldn't have been mere depression. It'd have been total despair. What Genos would have heard is that he's weak and lacked the guts to follow through on his committment to destroy enemies even if it meant killing himself. Talk about a tragic misunderstanding! Blessedly, ONE meters his angst -- it doesn't do to crush all your character's hope in one go.

More thoughts for Hunger:
Zeb loves loudly. He spends time with people, checks up on them, drags them away from their work when they need a break. He's loud and obvious with it, because why shouldn't he be vocal about it, about caring for the people he loves, about showing his affection for them?
Kallus loves quietly. He slips people presents, rearranges schedules to allow for time off, listens to them when they need an open ear. He's quiet and quick with his love, because pointing it out is egotistical and there's no need to be vocal about it, so why should he?

So, the tension is going to be between Chris and Buck. It's sounds like what I had hypothesized earlier about how something happens, and Chris sees that Buck is fallible or disappoints him in some way.
I think at some point, some sooner than others, kids begin to realize their parent(s) are not these perfect or all-knowing people. They break promises, they don't know everything, and sometimes they hurt you and let you down. Teens become aware that their parents are just people. People they love, but people who make mistakes. I am wondering if what will occur will have some kind of realization for Chris as to who Buck is to him, a friend or a parent. And Buck, who we know loves and treats Chris like a son, has to think about what permission and responsibility he truly has over Chris.
The final part will be Eddie and what he knows about this incident. It would be interesting to see if both Chris AND Buck keep it from him. Eddie is just going around asking Chris if he wants to go over to Buck's and Chris says no, and then asking Buck to help with Chris' homework and he stammers out some weak excuse and runs off.
My mind is whirling with the possibilities and I haven't been this creatively active in a minute. This show has got me in a chokehold. I love it 😈

back at it again with OrangeJuiceVerse headcanons that only matter to me, this time it’s
Driving Related
except I don’t know the breeds of cars
• Stan: blue truck that used to be randys. It kinda starts crapping out on him in his late twenties but Kenny helps him keep it running and he won’t just sell it and get a new one bc the guy is a SENTIMENTAL LOSER and there are too many memories (c’mon he and Kyle having a lil stargazing date in the bed of it and that’s when they kissed for the first time aaaaa). It is kinda ancient tho. He named it Glamdring The Foe Hammer (curbs are the foes in question btw). Guitar pick hanging from his keys. He’s a pretty good driver except he blasts the music too loud, brakes abruptly for squirrels, and sucks at parking.
• Kyle: grey car since high school. He didn’t know what to name it so Cartman calls it the Bitch Mobile, and he takes great care of it, he’s one of those guys to have an organizer in the console. Despite the guys calling him “mom” and “grandma” he has HORRIBLE ROAD RAGE especially because he is obsessive about the rules of the road and obeying them exactly. The guys know they’re safest with him driving but the yelling at drivers who don’t use their blinkers makes him the last choice when the 5 drive lmao. Made a 97 on his driving test and almost retook it to get a perfect score.
• Tweek: silver suv that he got as a graduation gift from his parents (before he knew it was bought w drug money rip) he didn’t name it because that’s too much pressure. He HATES driving like he only got his license because he HAD to, and as an adult doesn’t do much more of it than errands around town. HAS to have the radio on an even number if he even allows music in the car at all and will go SO FAR OUT OF HIS WAY to avoid making a left turn without a light. Has so many unorganized emergency supplies in the back plus half his jackets and random shit he finds when out but doesn’t bother to bring inside.
•Craig: “nice and boring” black car that he keeps clean and simple. He named it Stripe (it does not have a stripe) and is LITERALLY THE BEST DRIVER IN THE OJV. Very calm and collected on the road even when Tweek’s in the passenger seat freaked out about them merging or something. Won’t let anyone behind the wheel other than himself and (if his husband is only going a short distance) Tweek (and Kyle that ONE TIME after they witnessed a gas station robbery and Craig had a meltdown). Guinea pig keychain, and his car always smells good.
•Kenny: also a truck guy, he fixed it up himself in hs and it isn’t particularly consistent about starting. Most of it is brown but one door is blue and the tailgate is green. Named it RESURRECTION. Radio doesn’t work and the seats are mismatched, he likes to say that it’s “made of spare parts just like himself” and is very attached to that thing. Even when he gets a new truck (baby blue, he named it Butterfly) after his art takes off, he keeps it around. One of those tacky hula dancers on the dash and SO many bumper stickers. He’s a decent driver, just reckless unless he has a passenger.
• Cartman: oh my god he totally has one of those stoner vans with a custom paint job in that 80s pondering my orb style of HIMSELF RIDING A FIREBREATHING CAT!!! (I will die on this hill) he calls it Eric Triumphant. Since he has the biggest vehicle and actually isn’t too bad of a driver (unless he’s trying to activate Kyle’s road rage) the m5 tend to use it for excursions. He picks the music though, every time, and sings LOUDLY.
• Marjorine: can’t drive bc ojv marj is, in fact, blind in the ninja star eye sorry queen
• Stan and Kyle take turns driving the other to school and sports every day in hs. Sometimes Marj and Ken will join if Kenny’s truck isn’t working.
• the group also coordinates occasional days where they all ride the bus for old times because THEY ARE ALL NOSTALGIC LOSERS, even the ones who won’t admit it.

A SaiTatsu Scene breakdown that no one requested 🧵
Disclaimer: I am and will always be a delusional SaiTatsu shipper so if that's not your cup of tea, SKIP. Let me cook. It'll be very long too so brace yourself lmao I mean I also love the head pat and the SaiBlast parallel confirmation but their whole exchange here is downright one of the first time we've ever seen Saitama be like this? Yes, sure, you can argue we have Chapter 77 but that was played for laughs afterwards and nothing was ever resolved there. Even if King prodded and asked and offered up suggestions and we get a glimpse of what Saitama's source of depression is, I don't think they connected at all in this moment. So in the end, they played it off comically by gaming. We've got the Saitama/Genos scene (quite possibly my top 1) where it was more for Genos' character development when Saitama confirmed Genos got stronger in the heart. The Garou/Saitama scene is more like confirmation that Saitama clings to Genos the same way Garou clung to Tareo... and how they can't lose their only connection to humanity But this.... this is the first time he's able to talk to a hero like this, with equal reciprocation, sharing vulnerabilities and weakness with each other on a deeper level.
Tumblr media
He briefly glances at her face (This is totally kdrama. Don't argue, I consume Asian media the way I breathe air)
and notices that she's softened up a bit. Look at the curious tilt of his eyebrows I can't!! He's totally seeing her vulnerability right at the moment and he's curious and a little bit interested (Throwback to cover title)
Tumblr media
He offers up a suggestion openly. People kept saying Oh Saitama doesn't even care and just wants to go home. He never really cared blah fucking blah. That's the problem. HE DOES CARE. Even if it's a mere acquaintance, he cares. Idk how people got it into their heads. He's dense but Saitama is a good person, he's not the edgy person people seem to believe.
Tumblr media
Even if Tatsumaki reacted with hostility, he continued by sharing his OWN VULNERABILITY unprompted. Btw, wasn't he handsome here? Lmao totally all in Tatsumaki's POV
Tumblr media
The best part?
Tumblr media
SHE LISTENED. K, that's all. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

i think this is a good start, but a lot of it also doesn't really make any practical sense to me, as someone literally working on the things they're trying to make a bill of rights for. in a lot of ways, this feels written by a committee in which only a couple of them were actual technologists from the field, who were ignored by the rest of the academics on the committee.
some of these also sidestep the core problem that algorithms are built by people, so inherently they will reflect the realities of those people, meaning the algorithm will always be an aggregate form of how fallible we are. this is an inherent problem in all computer-anything, and there's no way we can avoid it at scale without saying we just won't use the internet anymore. we'd need to go the Battlestar Galactica model to save ourselves from this (never allow computers to be networked). more thought needed.
at its core though, i completely agree that we all need something at the government level to ask companies "i know you can build that thing, but should you build that thing?" because no such oversight currently exists. the same way the government no longer lets companies put lead in things that could be inhaled or eaten. there's a technological common sense here that just doesn't exist in government currently, and is too slow coming.
