Imagine a life of having to lead your group from their home; living a long life of trying to keep them alive only for near the end of your life watching them struggle to survive and there's nothing you can do but tell some of them to leave, to find another place to live so everyone can survive.

Then from the afterlife seeing the ones you cared so much about fight each other, kill each other, you can do nothing but demand they follow a set of rules just so maybe they'll survive and can live together without constantly killing each other.

Generation after generation you watch as they continue to fail to follow those rules and tragedy after tragedy follows.

The young and hopeful cat you used to be begins to fade. Everything about you seems to feel darker, you can't even recognize your reflection when you look into the pools of StarClan.

At some point you forget all of those past troubles, you're young and hopeful again, you look at your reflection in the lake and you know that is you. You're passionate, you're loyal, you want nothing to do but to follow the sacred rules your clan and kin have followed for more generations than anyone could remember, to keep the peace, to keep everyone safe.

Only to find out you were not who you thought you were, you are not who you were TOLD you were.

Your existence broke the sacred code you dedicated yourself to following, in more ways than one, and in doing so has now brought danger and pain to you and your loved ones.

It's happened again.

They've failed again.

And now YOU'VE failed as well.

There's a strange whispering in your head, in your heart, in every bone, every breath you take you hear something you don't understand.

gd watching the Pass the Game Challenge videos and I mean. I get that they're more focused on making a game that Works as opposed to one that's really polished, but it is kinda depressing just how bad the UI tends to be throughout the videos and how unintuitive a lot of the systems can be

not to mention how uh. uncreative some of it can be. like I get that they're under a time limit and are probably trying to stick to stuff they know they can do quickly but Man.

#tbf AAA titles aren't always great about this either (see: D1's horrible yellow subtitles)#honestly tho thank gd for Moonleaf Studio and a couple other people that always save the day when it's their turn instead of fuckin.#starting the whole damn project over from scratch at the last second lmao #at least a lot of comments call that out. some people need to focus more on working as a team and less on adding their own distinctive twis #like it is still very impressive! obviously I can't do anything like that (yet)#but it's like. okay now I wanna focus on accessibility & making UI that doesn't look like fuckin. Windows 98 or very basic html/css buttons #and that is actually good at providing useful info to players

Latvian anon, I love you !! There's nothing I like more than learning how other languages handled the name translations.

Here's some French ones !

Tallstar wouldn't have made sense, so it's Shootingstar. It was a little awkward to justify when the SE rolled around !

Similar to latvian, there's no graceful way of saying "kit" for kit names, so kits get either Little or Paw.

Apprentices get the Cloud suffix.

This makes it so that Ferncloud becomes Fernflower, Cloudtail becomes Snowflake, Nightcloud is "Belle-de-Nuit", a flower name which means literally "Beautiful at Night".

"Jayfeather" would have been confusing with "Crowfeather" as both are homophonous. So Jayf becomes JayEye !

Lionblaze got the boring name of Lionpelt.

There's no way of translating pool gracefully, so Leafpool became Moonleaf and Greypool became Frostlake.

Squirrelflight is Squirrelhair.

The Stripe suffix is generally replaced by "Feather" (Greystripe -> Greyfeather) except for Darkstripe who got the name Black Lightning (edgy much ?).

I constantly mix up Stonefur and Ashfur in english, because Ashfur is Granitpelt in french and Stonefur is Silexpelt.

Spottedleaf is just named Littleleaf, which was her name as a kit, and was also Leafpool's kit name. Firestar did Sandstorm really dirty on that one !

Tail is never used as suffix, as it has dirty connotations. Darktail is therefore Darkfeather. In fact, most get the Feather suffix, like with Stripe. (We have. So Many. Feather cats.)

Speaking of, Onestar makes no sense whatsoever. His warrior name was just "Whisker", which as a kid had me convinced he was like Firestar and kept his kittypet name. His leader name is Solitarystar, which kicks ass, but is pulled out of nowhere.

Frecklewish (TC) is Sandwish, and Frecklewish (SC) is Powderwish. So that's cleared up a little !

Feathertail is Beautiful Feather.

Mothwing is really cool, because she doesn't respect the traditional naming, being simply Moth as warrior and as healer. Coherent with her lack of faith !

Hawkfrost is just Hawkfeather.

Brightheart is interesting, as she has the weirdest kit name. As said above, kits get Little, Paw, and extremely rarely Ball (why ? I don't know, but Sootball happened). Brightkit was "Little White Ball" when it could have just been Whitepaw. Her warrior name is Whiteheart.

Since her daughter's name was later revealed to be Whitekit -> Whitewing, in french they took it in reverse and named the kit Little Wing -> WingedCloud -> Whitewing

Anyway. That was a ramble and a half, but I love the translation quirks so much !

WARRIORS FUN FACT

I read the Warrior Cats books in French and after being in the online community for a while, i noticed some fun name differences :

Did you know that in French, kittens in Warrior Cats are not named with the suffix -kit but with the prefix -little ? I put the original French names behind their literal english translation.

For instance, Firekit (if Rusty was born in Clan) would be named "Little Fire (Petit Feu), Jaykit "Little Jay"(Petit Geai), Yellowkit "Littlefang" (Petit Croc) etc.

On the other hand, apprentices are not named with the suffix -paw but -cloud.

For instance, Firepaw would be named "Firecloud" (Nuage de Feu), or Jaypaw "Jaycloud" (Nuage de Geai), Yellowpaw "Fangcloud" (Nuage de Croc) etc.

Fullgrown Cats with names like -cloud are completely renamed, like Cloudtail, who's name in French is Snowflake (Flocon de Neige). Fernclouds name is Heatherflower (Fleur de Bruyère).

Similarely, there are fullgrown warriors who get the suffix -paw. For instance, Raggedfur is called Greypaw (Patte Grise), Stonefur is called Flintpaw (Patte de Silex) etc.

Also, here are just some French names different from the english version I thought were worth mentionning :

Spottedleaf is called Smallleaf (Petite Feuille) which sounds so cute imo

Darkstripe is called Black Lightning (Eclair Noir) which sounds so edgy lol

Cinderpelt is called Cindermuzzle (Museau Cendré), which sounds so cute. As if her muzzle was covered in cinder dust

Leafpool is called Moonleaf (Feuille de Lune) which sounds nice as well

Hawkfrost is just called Hawkfeather (Plume de Faucon), way less cool than Hawkfrost imo

Brokentail is named Brokenfeather (Plume Brisée)

Anywaaays just had this stuck in my brain and wanted to get it out. ^^

Some warrior names I prefer in my language (french)

Bluestar warrior name was Lune Bleue, Blue Moon, it fits her so well !

Tallstar = étoile filante, wich means shooting star HOW AMAZING IS THAT ?? it's because of his long tail looking like a shooting star!

Runningwind = Vif Argent, an old name for mercury, quicksilver in English, amazing

Also the apprentice prefix isn't paw. It's nuage de, wich means Cloud !! That's why cloudtail name is Nuage de neige (Snowcloud) and then Flocon de Neige (Snowflake) because it would have been Cloud Cloud (a cat equivalent of moon moon maybe)

One whisker warrior name was just Moustache, whisker. I think that's cute :3

Jayfeather is called Oeil de Geai , JayEye, and it's really clear that's because of the color of his blue eyes and not his blindness

Speckletail name is Perce Neige, snowdrop !

A lot of queens have name of flowers in french actually. Nightcloud name is Belle de Nuit, Mirabilis, for example.

Mothwing is just called Papillon which means butterfly HOW CUTE IS THAT

Leafpool= Feuille de Lune, MoonLeaf, again fits her so well

Moonleaf is good but also i think Hollymoon is such a pretty name! I could also see Half Moon/Hollyleaf AU where she stays as the med cat, getting "dreams from StarClan" about how to keep the clans in better line with the Code but it maybe being the Dark Forest manipulating her? Idk idk just a thought but her rigid belief in the Code could def be a strong manipulation point.

hollymoon IS a really pretty name! i just think having the prefix be the part that alludes to half moon makes more sense actually-

maybe hollymoon WOULD make more sense since the "moon" in half moon is also the second part of her name

and holly starts with h like half

and if she stays a medicine cat then leafpool could still name her hollymoon after the moonpool (and then jayfeather gets named jayleaf instead cause squirrelflight asks firestar to name him after leafpool like she did with hollyleaf and he doesn't get named after stinky crowfeather anymore) and it ALSO comes full circle (heh full circle... like a full moon... and the moon looks like a circle) because the moonstone and therefore the moonpool were both TECHNICALLY named after half moon so the moonpool was named after half moon who when reincarnated got named after the moonpool!

and that would make her the closest of her siblings to their birth mother when they all find out, so then her confronting her mother and trying to get her to eat death berries is even more impactful and even more fucked up and even more incredibly incredibly heartbreaking
