[wonshik b-day drabbles 1/4] Football prince
rating: pg wonshik-centric (wontaek) words: 1065 notes: first drabble for Ravi’s birthday 0215! check the others later (today or in the week) #HAPPYRAVIDAY #HAPPYRAVERMANDAY [2nd] [3rd] [4th]
‘We got 45minutes left to turn this game around. If we win, we’re almost certain to be champions of the college league, otherwise it all comes down next week,’ the coach pep-talked to his players. 10 of them still huffing after the intense first half of the game, while the goalkeeper was huddled in a corner feeling terrible about letting that one ball slip out of his hands, giving a goal away to the opponents. The other 7 were just listening, probably had to prepare for a run next to the field soon after the whistle for the second half.
Once on the field again the substitutes all huddled together on the bench, hiding in their thick coats while watching their teammates work hard. After a while 3 guys were asked to start their warm-up run, soon followed with 2 more guys, leaving only the substitute goalkeeper on the bench and…
‘Wonshik! Get up and start warming up,’ the assistant yelled at him, shaking him out of his daze. As quickly as he could he shed the coat, grabbing a fluorescent vest to start his jog next to the field. The actual chance of him getting between the lines is barely existing, knowing the others with him are way better picks. Two of them are defenders; 2 midfielders that are versatile; a quick attacker and then there was him. How he even got into the first team was always a question mark to him considering he doesn’t have all the capacities others had. He could pass a ball around, crossing it to the other side. His shooting was decent, but predictable for any trained goalkeeper. He knew he would never be able to play more than 5 minutes.
‘Wonshik!’ the assistant yelled again, making him turn round, right as he was about to sprint to the corner flag. ‘Yes?’ he replied, looking at the assistant. ‘You need to get ready. You’re going in,’ the man said without further ado, turning to the head-coach to discuss tactics. Wonshik returned eventually to the bench, grabbing his shin-guards to put them underneath his – way too high – pulled up socks. His vest and training jacket where shed, leaving him in his black undergarment shirt, while the goalkeeper on the bench gave him his official shirt. He was still pulling it over his head while the assistant practically dragged him to the mid-line, where they had to go on the field.
‘Just keep the position that Sanghyeob had, okay?’ the coach muttered to him, making him even more nervous, until he saw the named player run of the field, holding onto his shoulder, giving his substitute a pat on the back. Wonshik ran on the field, immediately to the referee to check if his boots were following the rules. When he got an “okay” from the ref he ran to his spot, glancing to the side seeing how Sanghyeob walked towards the locker-room.
At first everything went well. All of his passes got to their destination, playing his role as it should.
When only 5 minutes were left, with a score of 1-1 they had to push harder to get the lead and become champions tonight. Wonshik did a sprint to the second post, eyes focusing on the ball. The moment he could hit the ball he tripped over a defender’s foot falling face first. The next moment everything happened in a blur. The next second he was on the pitch, face in the dirty, languidly stretched there trying to gaze up. The other his teammates were storming towards him, making him squirm and curl up in a ball, thinking they were going to yell at him for missing such a chance. Only suddenly he feels weight on top of him and guys yelling in his ear.
 ‘You fucking did it, bro!’
 ‘You scored! You clumsy!’
‘Wonshik, boy you are getting us the title!’
He crawled back onto his feet only to have more teammates yelling congrats at him. His eyes cast up to the scoreboard.
Minutes: 86. Seconds: 45, 46, 47, 48… Score: 2-1. Scorers Out: Moon Seonmin. Scorers Home: Lim Minhyeok, Kim Wonshik.
That was a moment that made him freeze for a second, leaving him frozen on his half, knowing he would have to play quickly again and defend this lead for a while.
 --
‘We’re the champions, my frieeeeend~,’ his teammates were singing, some already drunk with bottle of soju clasped in their hands, while Wonshik was curled in a corner, busy to get his clothes back on, but whenever he tried to put his shirt on a mate grabbed him by the shoulders dragging him in for a moment. Once they didn’t pay attention to him, he crawled back, trying another time. It failed again, so a little annoyed he walked out of the locker-room, into the empty hallways. Well not that empty since the paramedics where putting their stuff away and some students had sneaked their way inside, only to be carried out by guards.
Dressed in only jeans and sneakers he walks out into a quiet hallway. He took a breather from all the hysteria from their championship win. Of course he’s happy, but his teammates are becoming a little too wild with him.
‘Didn’t know I would catch you here.’
The voice was familiar to Wonshik, making him turn his head at the source. The familiar face leaning further down the hallway against the wall was enough to draw a smile onto his face.
 ‘Hi.’
‘Nice display,’ the voice continued pushing themselves off the wall, stridin- no limping over to him. Wonshik raised is eyebrows in shock. Since when were they limping… and had a cast around their foot?
‘Thanks,’ Wonshik replied when they were coming face-to-face.
‘I mean your body,’ they said, pointing at the bare chest of Wonshik who turned red at the action, quickly putting on his shirt, looking at the familiar face.
‘… And on the field,’ was added afterwards, making Wonshik blush.
For a long moment the two were staring at each other, examining their faces. It’s been a while since they had been this close.
‘It’s… good to see you,’ they said, gazing at the guy’s eyes before leaning closer, wrapping their arms around him. For a good, solid minute the two stood there in – almost – utter silence. ‘I missed you.’
 ‘I missed you too… Taekwoon.’
