It's strange how sometimes a single sentence can change someone's entire life.
Wanda's thought about what sentences could change her life—usually, they're morbid and depressing.
'You have cancer.'
'Someone you love has died horrifically in an accident.'
'Your cat actually finds living with you miserable and would prefer the dangers of living in the streets.'
Never in a million years would Wanda ever think it'd be, 'Hey, have you ever noticed how your best friend exclusively only dates girls who look like you?'
And don't get Wanda wrong. It wasn't a morbid or depressing change; it was just...a change. An irrevocable change because now, Wanda couldn't stop thinking about it or noticing it.
This was all Steve's fault.
Because if someone like Stupid Steve could notice something like that, it had to mean something, right? But as Wanda remembers about the past girls you've hooked up with and brought around, she doesn't know what to make of it.
A part of Wanda wishes she had never talked to Steve that night at the bar.
"Where's Vis?" Steve asked, looking around.
"With Tony playing pool, I think," Wanda shrugged. She doesn't particularly keep track of where her on-and-off boyfriend goes. She thinks they might be on an off-period right now, anyway.
"And where's—oh, nevermind, there she is," Steve started to say but cut off when they both saw you across the bar talking with the bartender, flirting over drinks—which were probably free if Wanda could guess.
Wanda's slightly annoyed because it's been a long week without seeing you, and Wanda's been used to seeing you almost every day for the past several years of her life. But you've been gone on a work trip this week for a wedding shoot and only came home just a little after lunch and needed an immediate long nap before tonight's get-together.
That meant Wanda was sorely missing out on best-friend time, and now you were off flirting shamelessly with the hot bartender. Wanda's rooting for you, make no mistake. The bartender is definitely easy on the eyes, luscious hair, and lips—something Wanda knows you're weak for.
Plus, Wanda's worried you're not anywhere near getting close to settling down. She wants you to be in a happy, fulfilling relationship. But she supposes she's in no position to talk herself.
Wanda loves Vision without a doubt, but their relationship is definitely chaotic, and Vision keeps pushing for something more serious now that they've been dating (sporadically) for a long time. She's been considering it in her downtime and thinks it might make sense as the next step.
Best friends do everything together, right? So, maybe if Wanda decided to take the next step in a serious relationship, you'd find someone to commit to seriously as well.
Then, both of you could get married at the same time. Then, they could buy a house in the same neighborhood right next to each other. There'd be endless double dates and vacations together. Wanda wouldn't have to miss you.
But first, Wanda needed to regain lost best-friend time, one-on-one style.
"Hey, you know what I just noticed?" Steve said, breaking Wanda's drifting thoughts.
"What?"
"Bug—"
Wanda makes a face at your nickname. Granted, it was Wanda's fault you ended up with it back in your first year of university. You never let her forget it, especially now that you're a professional photographer.
"—over there has a very specific type she goes after for girls," Steve mused, sipping his whiskey before continuing. "I mean, they always have green eyes and brunette—wait, that's not true. She had two red-headed girlfriends in our last year of university. They still had green eyes, though."
"Oh," Wanda said, unsure what to say since she's never paid attention to the girls you were dating. On average, they were a brief fling, and only a few lasted longer than half a year. "I guess so?"
Wanda distantly thinks about how she dyed her hair auburn in her last year of university because she was looking for a change that year and Natasha was insistent that she'd look amazing. Wanda recalls you were a fan of the look.
"Yeah," Steve nodded along. "Ironically, they always look like you in some way. Check out that bartender now—long, wavy-haired brunette with green eyes. She's got thick, long lips and even does that dark eye-shadow makeup thingy like you."
Steve just laughed it off, finishing his drink, thinking nothing more of it before he started talking about Bucky.
But it was like something clicked into place in Wanda's brain. A daunting realization that she was wholly unprepared for and not equipped to do anything about.
Wanda watched as the bartender clocked off for the night and dragged you into a corner booth, drinks in hand. It gave Wanda the perfect view that the bartender wore many rings just like she did.
In the poor privacy of the dimly lit corner booth, there was a staunch and needy kiss from the two of you, and Wanda swallowed roughly.
From here, if you were none the wiser, Wanda could be easily mistaken for the girl in the booth with you.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Sometimes, Wanda believes she's just being absolutely ridiculous. So what if you go after girls who share the same features as her? That didn't have to mean anything. You've always told Wanda she was beautiful, and it was perfect how you said it.
It didn't feel insincere or creepy. It felt good to know her best friend thought she was absolutely gorgeous. But just because you thought she was beautiful doesn't mean you harbored secret feelings for her.
You'd be insulted if you knew Wanda had ever thought that. She'd just be another one of those girls Wanda's seen you humble on multiple occasions when they found out you dated women, and they were worried you might have a crush on them.
But then, Wanda couldn't stop thinking she actually might be one of those girls because then she'd think about if you didn't consider her like that, it wasn't about her looks but something about her personality that wasn't your type.
And what could that be?
Wanda thought long and hard, trying to remember the girls you've introduced her to.
Sometimes they were funny, and Wanda was funny. She made you laugh all the time. She specifically remembered one time in high school when she made you laugh so hard you peed your pants just a little.
Sometimes they were intellectual, and while Wanda didn't have an IQ of 160, she did fairly well academically and was on the right track in her career.
Sometimes they were charming, and Wanda was the type where she got more charming the more you got to know her.
So, Wanda just doesn't understand. She's nowhere further with her thinking ever since this weird information has been bestowed upon her.
Maybe it all just means nothing. You just didn't feel that way about Wanda despite the type of girls you dated suggesting otherwise. You didn't need a reason for it, and maybe the fact you only felt friendship for her was the reason.
"Wanna order pizza in tonight?"
Wanda turns her head from the tv and notices you've put your book down. "Hm, not really. We had pizza last week," Wanda shakes her head.
"How about that Greek place that just opened up on Willington Ave?" You suggest. "Pretty sure I heard you grumbling about wanting Greek food earlier this week."
"I was not grumbling!" Wanda scoffs but smiles when you raise your eyebrow at her. "Okay, I was grumbling a little."
You snicker as you pull out your phone to order delivery. "Oh, sweet golden best friend of mine, whatever shall you do when you get married to Vis, who hates Greek food. Do I foresee a life of Greekless cuisine? Oh, the suffering you'll go through!"
"I don't need him to like it," Wanda slaps your arm, sticking her tongue out before she cuddles you. "I have you to eat it with."
You laugh unabashedly, a sound that Wanda's accustomed to hearing the joyful sound. "Better hope the person I marry also hates Greek cuisine. I don't know if I can live a life of eating double the Greek food. I love tzatziki sauce, but if I grow to hate it from eating it too much, I will make you suffer the consequences of that."
Your voice trails off as you focus on ordering food, unable to see the cogs in Wanda's head turning.
It's all so easy. There's no tension, no electric vibes happening. Just best friends enjoying the banter and making plans to eat.
It was all in Wanda's head, right? You're her best friend, so of course you'd know everything about her.
The right type of friendship is fulfilling and soul-connecting, and that's what Wanda has with you. When you have a one-in-a-million connection like that, the line between friendship and romance is thin, isn't it?
Wanda hates Steve. She'd never think about this if it wasn't for Stupid Steve. She can hear his dumb laugh, blissfully ignorant about the observation bomb he dropped upon her.
"Do you wanna get ice cream after?" You ask, throwing your phone to the side. "I'll even treat you to the gelato despite knowing I'm going to suffer through your crazy farts later."
"Oh my god, I'm going to trap you under the blanket with it just for that!"
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Within two months, Wanda forgets about it. Forgets, as in that she decides to drop it (let it linger in the deep depths of her brain that she refuses to acknowledge), and resolves that Steve has no brain cells and has no idea what he's saying.
"Have you seen my strapless black top?" Wanda shouts from her room with the door open. "The one with the v-shaped front!"
"In your closet!" You yelled back from the living room, not taking your eyes off your phone.
"I can't find it," Wanda whines, and she hears you sigh as you get up. The footsteps approach her room, and she finds you standing at the door with an unimpressed look.
"I don't want to hear it," Wanda sniffs.
"Hear what, brat?" You say with a brow raised before you start rummaging through her closet. The nickname was a joke you started that Wanda was entirely a spoiled person, exhibiting bratty behavior at times. "That I'm not gonna be your roommate forever, so you need to learn to fold it yourself before putting it away?"
Wanda makes grumbling noises that are mostly nonsensical but smiles when you pull out the top she was looking for.
"You are the apple of my eye, stinky," Wanda grabs the top from you before she runs into her washroom to briefly change into it.
"A match made in heaven, yeah, yeah," you roll your eyes with good humor. "Hurry up, Natasha will kill us if we're late for Yelena's birthday. They're on an upwards mend in their relationship, so she's been so unbearably uptight lately to make sure nothing goes wrong."
"I know, I know," Wanda mutters, carefully pulling the top over her head to not ruin her makeup.
"Alright, I'll hail us a cab, meet me outside."
"Wait, wait!" Wanda calls out. "I need help putting on my necklace."
You chuckle, walking back just as Wanda steps out of the bathroom with the delicate necklace she wants to wear.
"Alright, alright, relax," you tell her. "Your accent gets really strong when you're stressed."
"You're stressing me out by rushing me," Wanda scrunches her nose even though you can't see it. "I'm also stressed knowing that you have to rush me, or I'll spend the party getting lectured by Natasha."
Wanda's voice comes out husked with the accent, something she's struggled between hating or loving, but mostly loving since you've expressed how lovely it is.
You grab the necklace from her hand, and Wanda moves her hair out of the way. The routine of it all starts to bleed the tension out of her shoulders.
Then, that horrible Stupid Steve Sentence kicks into her brain.
It's only as you put your arms over, placing the necklace against Wanda's chest, and focusing on trying to get the clasp in. Wanda can feel your warm breath against her neck, summoning goosebumps along her arms. You're so close, and she can feel the heat of your body radiating onto her, your fingers just barely brushing against her.
The tension comes suddenly, squeezing inside her chest as her breathing slows and shakes. Her body warms in an unexpected way.
"Ah, got it," you say, but Wanda can only focus on your voice and breath on the shell of her ear. "Cute necklace but the clasp is so annoying."
You pull away and start walking off. "C'mon, I bet if we tip our taxi driver an extra $20 bucks, they'll speed and we can pray we're on time."
Wanda's left standing there, knowing she probably sounds like she's fresh out of Sokovia with how stressed she is. Her right eye twitches.
Was that...Wanda gulps. Was that sexual tension?
And was she the only one who felt it?
Fuck.
She's going to kill Steve.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Natasha's absolutely neurotic when they arrive. It's just a simple backyard party, but it almost looks like a wedding venue with all the catering and flowers.
Wanda's pretty sure Natasha's only being like this because she's overthinking about whether to cling to Yelena or give her sister some space to mingle with others. She seems to be sizing up Kate, who Yelena might be seeing, but it hasn't been confirmed.
Yelena looks between exasperated with Natasha and secretly happy about the entire thing. Wanda can sympathize with her. After all, she's also a little sister, and Pietro can also be way too overprotective. Sometimes she's glad he's abroad in Europe for work while she remains in New York, but she misses him more often than she admits.
"Alright, alright, Natasha," you groan, and Wanda's mind slips back into the conversation. "We're 3 minutes late, relax, will you? Damn, are you always gonna be like this until you and Yelena get back into whatever sibling bond you had before? Hope you're just like this with us because otherwise, you're gonna scare away all her friends, and she's going to hate you."
"Oh my god, do you think she'll really hate me?" Natasha bites her bottom lip in worry while looking around at all the people that they can only assume she's nagged about being late or whatever mishap.
"Oh, man," you sigh, putting your hand on her shoulders before pushing her towards the bar. "You need some drinks and maybe some desserts in you."
Wanda's about to follow you when you turn around and nod your head in a different direction. She looks over and sees you're nodding toward Vision.
"You should go say hi to him," you tell her. "You've been complaining about not seeing him all last week, even though I don't know why you guys won't just FaceTime, but I digress. Come find me later, or I'll find you after."
You look over at Natasha, who's peering on her tippy toes to see if she can find Yelena.
"And, hopefully, I'll have ditched this nutjob," you whisper conspiratorially and laugh when Natasha turns around to smack your arm.
"I heard that!"
Wanda chuckles as you walk off with Natasha while she turns and heads toward Vision. Despite how she was complaining about not seeing Vision last week because she did miss him, her expression was sour as she made her way toward him.
Vision spots her immediately and waves at her with a warm smile. Wanda feels herself somewhat loosened at his expression. They'd also been friends a long time before they started on-and-off dating, so at the very least, she does miss his easy friendship.
"Hey," Vision hugs her, slightly rubbing her back before he pulls away but keeps his arm around her. "It's been a while; you look lovely."
"Thanks," Wanda smiles with a shrug. She looks around and sees he's standing with Tony and Pepper. "How are you guys?"
"Could be better," Tony sighs dramatically. "Natasha won't let me do any of my cool party tricks as if I'm going to ruin her little sister's party. If anything, I could make it the party of the century!"
Pepper rolls her eyes good-naturedly. "We were just talking about how we're thinking of going to the Bahamas for vacation in December and escaping the cold. We've invited you and Vision along since it's been awhile since we've all gone together. Of course, we can also invite Bug and Natasha."
"Oh," Wanda says for a lack of anything else to say. She doesn't know how to feel about it, but she peers over at Vision, who's just smiling at her and looking eager about it.
"I need another drink if I'm going to suffer through this party," Tony sighs. "Maybe I can convince Yelena instead!" He grins, dragging Pepper along, and they walk off together.
"So, what do you think?" Vision asks when they're alone. "I didn't want to reply on your behalf since I wasn't sure, but I think it'd be good for us. I've missed you," Vision pauses as if he's about his next words but then says, "a lot."
"Yeah, me too," Wanda starts to say, but then her brain gets all haywire because it feels like a lie. She did miss him, but did she miss him a lot? "I think."
"You think?"
Wanda wants to smack her forehead because she didn't mean to say that out loud. "I mean, I was complaining a lot that I haven't seen you in a while all last week."
"Yeah, work has just been overwhelming. I get so tired after work, I just can't keep up with the texting or calls."
But you can, Wanda thinks. Granted, you're her roommate, so it's easier. But even when you have to go on work trips, you regularly text her no matter what time and squeeze in a quick call, even if it's just to say goodnight.
The entire thing makes Wanda bite her tongue because why was she even thinking about that? That was completely irrelevant to Vision.
Then—because as if just thinking about you wasn't enough—her eyes trail across the room, and the scene before her makes Wanda even more confused about her feelings.
You're standing there with Natasha at the bar, but it looks like Natasha's calling someone over to introduce you to them.
Another brunette with long, wavy hair, like she just had a blowout done. Wanda's not 100% sure from this distance, but she has an inkling that the brunette also has green eyes. She's wearing a white halter top and wide-legged sage green pants. She wears a lot of rings, but her makeup is lighter and more summery compared to Wanda's darker, smokey eye makeup.
In short, this woman was the clean girl aesthetic version of Wanda.
And you look interested.
This was ridiculous, Wanda fumes, feeling her stomach sink and cheeks flare hot in anger. As quick as the anger came, it dissipated.
Why was she so angry?
She feels betrayed, and her thoughts are turning very ugly. Wanda is definitely not being a girl's girl right now with how much she's thinking she's better than the girl in front of you.
But that just makes everything so much more confusing.
"Wanda?"
Wanda turns her head back to Vision. He looks concerned, and even when his eyes trail toward what Wanda's staring at, there's no additional reaction. He's not upset that she's staring at you, and that has to mean something, right?
It must mean there was never a concern about how Wanda might've felt about you. Sure, there were a few things Wanda couldn't be without, and you were one of them, but nobody can't be without their best friend.
No one had ever blinked twice about you and Wanda.
Except now.
And that person was Wanda herself.
The more Wanda thought about the entire thing, the more she became curious. The idea of you dating people who looked like Wanda was intriguing. She wanted to ask questions but didn't know what to ask.
It might mean nothing, but it also might mean something.
And if it does mean something, Wanda wants to know what exactly it is.
Therefore, Wanda needs nothing in her way to find out the truth and exactly what she wants, regardless of the answer.
This was insane, wasn't it? Wanda's always been ambivalent about dating women. She's never gone out of her way to try it since she had Vision. Never mind entertaining thoughts about dating her best (girl)friend. And now, she was giving everything up in the pursuit of finding out what it could mean that her best friend was dating her lookalikes—and why she cared.
Wanda doesn't even know what she'll want to do with that information.
Wanda looks at Vision, peering at his features she's always found handsome. When she thinks back, she's not even sure why she complained to you about how she hasn't seen or heard from him lately. She hadn't even gone out of her own way to do something about it.
"I'm not going on the trip. I don't think I actually missed you like that."
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
The girl introduced to you was named Raye, Natasha's coworker that recently moved from Nashville. It was also confirmed she has green eyes, though they had specks of brown in them. She was a southern belle with a bold attitude, witty, and a wicked sense of humor. All in all, undeniably charismatic.
At least, that's what you told her in private because all Wanda could feel was unrestricted aggravation with the other girl. The southern twang made Wanda's eye twitch, mostly because she knew you were head over heels for accents.
"And then before I knew it, I was panicked and more lost than a blindfolded turkey on thanksgiving!"
You burst out laughing while Wanda's expression is stony, but when you look at Wanda, she forces a smile on her lips.
"Hahaha," Wanda dryly let out. "So funny."
But it wasn't. What the fuck did that even mean?
Raye continues to talk while you listen with rapt interest, and Wanda takes the time to observe your features in a way she's done many times before but with a different mindset.
Your lips are curved in a smile, glistening from your chapstick. They're shapely, and they look soft. It rivals her favorite feature of yours, which is your eyes. They've always been so expressive with her, and Wanda's been around long enough that she knows what every expression means. She can tell when they glint with mischievousness or are soft with immense compassion and empathy.
"So, what did you think of Raye?" You ask Wanda as you leave the party.
"She's cool, I guess," Wanda answers nonchalantly.
The rest of the party was excruciating between Raye constantly hanging around you and Wanda also being too nervous to be alone with you.
"Really cool," you sigh with a grin. "Glad I got her number. It's been a while since I've met someone so funny."
Was she funny, though? Wanda wonders.
"Funnier than me?" Wanda finds herself asking.
"No one could be funnier than you, brat," you smirk. "I almost peed myself laughing again when you almost knocked off Yelena's cake. I thought Natasha was about to enter into a coma." You snicker while Wanda rolls her eyes with a smile.
"Glad I can always give you the biggest laughs, stinky."
Wanda glances over at your face, recognizing the excitement by the brightness in them. It's just another reminder that, as your best friend, she knows you like the back of her hand.
But lately, when Wanda watches you pick up girls, she can tell when they're heady with desire. That look hasn't been directed at her, and Wanda wants to know what it'd be like if it were.
Wanda recalls the night you kissed the bartender and imagines if it had been her instead. She pictures your hand sliding across her jaw and cheek while your other pulls her closer at the waist.
It's horrifying when a slow pit of arousal builds in Wanda's gut and...other regions. It feels utterly frightening and wrong like she's betraying the friendship for having and then reacting to such thoughts about you.
But there's another part—the part that tells Wanda there's nobody in this world that she loves more than you. The mere idea of ever being apart from you was unfathomable. Wanda could and has endured so many things, and it would always be okay as long as she had you.
So, knowing that Southern Belle Raye has the potential to be more than a one-night stand to you, Wanda realizes that she has a very small window to not only come to terms with her newfound feelings but also act on them as well.
If this didn't go well, Wanda would definitely murder Steve.

FAVORITE STUCKY FICS | 62/100
help to make the season bright by @its-tortle
[Shrunkyclunks, 20 542 words, Teen And Up Audiences]
Summary:
“ Fuck,” he proclaims out loud.
A pigeon on the sidewalk across the street flutters away.
Another voice cuts through the cold. “You okay?”
Bucky looks up to see a silhouette on the fire escape two floors above him. Clearly, he had been swearing louder than he intended to.
The figure is clearly male, and built like a fucking brick house, but the light behind him makes any other features vague and indistinguishable.
“Uh, yeah,” Bucky says dumbly. “I just- I forgot my keys.”
“I’ll let you in.”
The silhouette disappears from view.
Bucky steps forward to retrieve his groceries from the steps of the building, and has just picked up the last can of cat food when the door opens. He looks up to meet the man who saved him from hypothermia.
And what a man it is.

Series Masterlist || Main Masterlist
The moon shines up high, a cold breeze passes your legs that are fully exposed. The warmth of your short skirt only covers down to a little above your knee. If it’s not because your best friends Kate and MJ insist for you to come, you are probably home by now but you are in line with them to get into this one famous fancy night club called “Black Widow'' instead. You are not gonna lie, it is one of your favorite clubs to go to. You love the drinks, great dj not to mention the people who come here always look good. It’s not a secret that there are a lot of upper class people who love to party here. The club is always packed every time you come.
“I can’t believe that you didn’t even change your clothes before you came here. You looked like someone just came here straight from work.” Kate lets out her comment.
“Uh maybe because I came STRAIGHT from work, Kate. I could’ve gone home first to change my clothes if you didn’t text me every five minutes to hurry up.” You defend yourself with your reason. “Also, what’s wrong with the button up blouse and my mini skirt? I think it’s not that bad.” You added.
“I know. I know. I’m just excited. We are here to celebrate you. It’s your night. It would be more fun and more friends would come if you didn’t ask to keep it low-key.” Kate rolls her eyes playfully yet letting out her disappointment.
“Well, it’s okay. I don’t want it to make a big deal about it. I just want to celebrate it with you two. You two are my best friends and that’s enough for me.” You explain with a fake pout but genuinely meant every word.
“Awww, y/n, that’s really sweet. Don’t worry about what Kate just said. You look pretty and we understand. Thank you for doing this with us.” M.J responds in awe as she gives you a little hug and smiles at you and Kate.
“Yes, I’m glad I’m part of tonight’s fun. We love you. You know that?” The brown haired woman smiles and squeezes in another hug.
“Of course.” You answer as you check the time on your watch.
The night gets colder and the line is getting longer. The three of you have a great laugh and talk while waiting in line. The security lets some people in every time there are some people leaving the club.
The three of you are getting closer to your turn to get in and you get excited, especially Kate. She loves the place more than you do, hence the destination choice she made for the girls night out with you and M.J.
As soon as the security almost opens the way to let somes group of people ahead of you, someone talks to him through the COMM in his ears, and everything changes. He stops himself from letting people in.
“Sorry folks. VIP first.” He explains as he turns his back and focuses on who is coming. You hear overlapped voices of disappointment from the others in line including Kate’s and MJ’s.
“This is so unfair. How much longer we gotta wait. I wonder who’s coming. Oh maybe a celebrity? Look at those paparazzi.” MJ lets out her impatience followed by her wandering thoughts. “Or probably just another rich person, MJ. You know this place, always full of them..” You calmly respond as you playfully slap her arm with the back of your hand and patch a smirk at her.
Not too long after that, a shiny black limousine pulled up and parked in front of the club. The street light shines and reflects on some parts of the car. The windows are all dark as if it meant to avoid any attention to whoever is inside while on the road.
People start talking and wondering who it is gonna be. All eyes are on the limo as if it doesn’t matter for them anymore if they get into the club or not.
The paparazzi are all ready to snap pictures just like an army who are ready for what’s coming  in front of them. They all know who’s in the luxury moving box of steel.
All the commotions really drag your attention and your gaze to the center of it. You hear people asking each other “Oh my God, who is it?” or “I heard that she’s coming tonight. It’s her birthday today.” and “Do you think she’s coming with the others? I really want to see all of them.”
With all those overlapping comments, your mind gets so curious. You look at the limo without even blinking. Who is she? Who is this woman they were talking about?
The door finally opens, you see a woman coming out of the limo. A super attractive red-haired woman wears bright red suits and pants with a black lapel that blends in perfectly with her loose satin shirt under it. All of those paired beautifully with her black clutch. Her black and silver necklace cooperates with her same color high heels to highlight her black and red vibes.
You are so intrigued by her. You don't know why your mind imagines your fingers raking through her short red hair, caressing it. You are stunned by her look until you hear Kate’s voice.
“OMG! That’s Natasha Romanoff! Damn, she looks so good! I hope her sister Yelena will be here too. I have a huge crush on her.” Kate comments in amazement.
“Natasha who? Her sister?” You look at Kate with furrowed eyebrows as you ask confusedly. “Seriously? You don’t know who Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova are? Okay, I’ll tell you more after this.” Kate’s hand squeezes your hand excitedly as she looks surprised but she gets distracted with more people who get out of the limo. You look at Vision offering his hand to help his wife, Wanda, to come out. Her twin brother, Pietro comes out next followed by Tony Stark.
“Oh wow, The Maximoff twins are here too with Vision and Tony stark. So the whole gang's here.” MJ’s comment leads your gaze to bounce between the rest of them.
You know The Maximoff twins. Who doesn’t? They are the Sokovian siblings who inherit their parents’ fortune of Maximoff Co. but their business skill multiplies it. Not just that, people know them from their lavish lifestyle.
Vision, who used to be the British Royal family doctor and now the owner of many big hospitals in big states. He holds Wanda's hand as they slowly walk behind Natasha. You always adore them. To you, they are that power couple. It’s no secret that they have an open marriage and paparazzi often snap pictures of them with who they call “partner in fun”. In every snap, they are with a different person. Wanda and Vision always wear matching clothes, similar themes or at least whatever colors that compliments each other.
Of course, the brunette Wanda looks so alluring yet sophisticated. Her long sleeve burgundy red somewhat short dress with a slit exposing her thigh with a very low cut perfectly highlighted her cleavage. The dress wrapped her heavenly body perfectly. Wanda’s burgundy dress matches ideally with Vision’s shades of brown jacket and pants over his cream turtleneck.
Her brother Pietro, the ladies man, wears his black suit, spreading his charm. Clearly busy giving teaseful wink or smirks. Some girls are even lucky enough to get their hand kissed by him. From their excited reaction, you guess that they probably won’t wash their hands for a few days.
Then there is Tony Stark, the only heirs of Stark’s family wealth and company. It’s not a surprise to you that Tony’s fashion is a little more different than the others. This time he wore blue suits with black tie and pants. His gray shirts peeping out from under his jacket suit. Being eccentric he is, of course he wears different style athletic blue and black shoes and never forgets his glasses. In his defense, he once said in an interview that always wears sunglasses because of the camera flashes. But seeing he’s wearing the light blue shades right now that probably can’t really block the brightness of the flashes, it’s obviously only for fashion purposes instead. He gives a kiss on the cheek of one of the ladies who asks for a selfie with him shortly before he follows his friends into the club.
To your surprise, you caught Natasha and Wanda glance at you as they walked past in front of the line. Natasha’s glance makes your stomach somersault, instantly making your heart beat faster. Meanwhile, Wanda’s glance at you from head to toe and smirks make you feel like you are a prey, voluntarily.
“Wow, they all look so cool.” MJ doesn’t take her eyes off them until Nat and the rest get into the club. “Yeah but too bad, Yelena is not here.” Kate sighs in disappointment.
“Okay, I know the rest of them but who are Natasha and Yelena?” You ask curiously.
“She is a famous business woman. She is super rich, the CEO of Romanoff Inc. Her company is really big and goes international. She runs it with her sister Yelena. You know the twins and Tony Stark but you don’t know her? They are all best friends and hang out together. Their lifestyle is everybody’s dream.” Kate answers you in rambling.
“Well, Kate, you know me. I don’t really keep up with this whole famous people thing in social media. Work gets me really busy.” You respond to her rambling.
“That’s why you need this night! To have fun. Okay?” MJ tries to cheer you up. “Yeah, we will, After we finally get in.” You let out a sarcastic joke and made your best friends giggle.
_____
As soon as Natasha takes a seat on her VIP couch, she takes a sip of her favorite cocktails.Tell Me When To Go by E-40 plays loud in the club. Her eyes are analyzing her club tonight. She is happy with the new manager’s work. She loves how packed the club is, her eyes subconsciously look for you and her mind wonders if you are already inside or not.
“Happy birthday, darling.” Wanda gives a small kiss to both of Nat’s cheeks as she hands the redhead an envelope before she sits on Nat’s left side. Vision takes his spot next to his wife while Tony slouches next to Nat and Pietro sits side by side with his brother in law on the comfy large black and red U shaped couch. They always sit in the VIP spot that’s always reserved only for them. It has the best view of the club. They love it because practically they can see almost every spot in the club but still a little further from public and have some more privacy. Two dancing poles in front of each end of the couch.
The black table is perfectly set up like usual with bottles of expensive alcohol, ice buckets, snacks or everything they need and even their high end custom made bongs complete with their weed stash. Their favorite drinks and cocktails have been made prior to their arrival. Some bodyguards take a stand not too far from them. Pietro lit up his cigar right away. His eyes observe the surroundings. Excited with the crowd, especially the ladies. He blows out some smoke then takes a sip of his drinks.
“What’s this?” Nat takes the black envelopes as she asks and her green eyes meet with Wanda’s. “It’s your birthday gift from me, Vision and Pietro. Open it.” The brunette answers.
Nat quickly opens it and pulls a photo out of it. “A picture of a yacht?” She tilts her head in confusion.
“YOUR yacht. You sold yours a while ago and you have been too busy to get a new yacht. So we got you one.” Wanda answered excitedly. “Oh wow, thanks Wanda. Thank you boys.” Nat’s gaze flicks from Wanda, Vision then to Pietro as she shows them her gratitude.
“You are very welcomed, Nat. They berthed it next to ours right now. We didn't want to ruin the surprise for you if they brought it to your spot.” Vision explains then proceeds to light up the weed on the bong and inhale the smoke of it.
“You are welcomed, sestra! I picked the bigger size, so you can have a bigger party. Just don’t forget to invite us when you have a party.” Pietro answered jokingly. Wanda and Vision laugh at his jokes.
“Don’t worry, I won’t forget, Piet.” Nat smiles and shakes her head to his antics. “And now, it’s my turn. Happy birthday, Romanoff.” Tony hands her a small red box then smokes a weed joint on his other hand.
Nat opens it and finds a key in it. “This is the key to..?” She asks in a playful way. “Well, it’s just a small gift. Do you remember the winery you like in Sonoma? Not too far from it, I saw this nice property with a nice Spanish style house. It would be a nice getaway for you. I added a little touch. You know, a shooting range, and a spacious gym since you and your family love shooting guns and martial arts. Plus extra space for some of your precious car collections.” Tony casually describes his so-called small birthday gift.
“Oh wow, thank you Tony. All of you gave me these huge gifts. Now, I’m gonna have to give you better gifts on your birthdays.” Nat lets out her joke. The bass from the speakers starts to pound the air as the DJ plays Flip The Switch by Valentino Khan, Chris Lorenzo in line.
“Oh, you know what I like, Nat. If you find any interesting women, share them with me. Or let us have them after you, right, Vis?” Wanda answers her best friend in a teasing way and Vision agrees with an excited “Uh-huh.” in his nods then kisses Wanda’s cheeks.
“Well, just like Pietro said, just don’t forget to invite us if you are having a party.” Tony adds.
“Speaking of parties, I have another gift for our party tonight.” Pietro announced enthusiastically. “What’s that?” Nat turns her focus from the dance floor back to Pietro. “Well, I bought a bottle of old original Absinthe liquor. It’s so strong and it even can make you hallucinate a bit.” The Sokovian billionaire describes as he takes the bong from his brother in law to take his turn to smoke.
“Oh really? I have heard about it. Where is it now?” Nat pitches her question a little louder against the loudness of the music and people partying. “I told my assistant to send it here. Your bartender should be making some drinks for us with it by now.” Pietro smiles proudly about his surprise followed by some coughs out of him.
“Oh, which assistant? The one that Wanda fucked yesterday before the big important meeting with me and the board?” Nat smirks casually joking about what Wanda did. The brunette is really open with her best friends and brother including Vision about how high her sex drive is and how much she loves women. She knows her friends are okay with it, the downfall is they sometimes poke fun out of it just like Nat did. “Yeah, that one.” Pietro laughs.
“Oh, her? Yes, I did and she is really good. A really obedient assistant. She was so…let’s say, tight.” Wanda shares her short trip to yesterday’s memory of hers as she gently bites her lower lips then gives Nat a naughty smile.
Both Natasha’s index finger and thumb softly pinch Wanda’s chin so she can look at her forest green eyes that spark from the aggressive blinking spotlights following the beats for the music. “Oh, I know that, sweetheart. I know how she is.” Nat gives her response to the brunette next to her then wink at her.
The waitress brings a tray of cocktails that has the Absinthe that Pietro got for tonight. All of them cheer and take a big gulp of the green liquor.
Just like Pietro said about the Absinthe, they all start to get tipsy in a different way not to mention the effect from smoking the weed starts to kick in. Their body starts to relax more, but their throat still feels the warmth from what they drank and their heart starts to pump a little faster.
“Look what I’ve got! Look at these white beauties. Maximoffs, yours was really good last time but trust me, this one is even better.” Tony casually tosses a medium size bag of cocaine on the table. It’s more than enough for five of them to share all night long.
Wanda slowly blows the smoke from the burning weed that she inhaled. She hands the bong to Natasha for her turn shortly before she grabs the bag to check the white substance in it. “This looks good and if it hits good, give me the seller number, Stark.” Wanda's broad accent always shows up bolder whenever she gets drunk or high.
As Natasha is taking a hit, her eyes finally lock with the person she has been waiting for, you. She casually blows the smoke out, coughing a little as she watches you and your friends get to the bar.
_____
"Oh my god! Finally!" Kate tries her best holding herself not to jump in excitement as soon as the three of you get into the club.
You can feel the bass as if it punches your heart following the song beat. Some people bump into you when you are walking. The smells of alcohol, cigarette smokes and light marijuana fill the club. Your eyes keep trying to adjust with the light that keeps blinking in a random rhythm. The air feels sticky and warm from how many people are in there yet you also feel the cold breeze from the air conditioner that works really well.
You see two large screens on the high walls shining bright plays optical illusion video that match with the rhythm of the music. Few sexy female dancers dance on the dance pole and some of them dance inside giant bird cages. Some of them swing on the swing inside the cages like canary bird. People are dancing, jumping like crazy that you thought it was the effect of whatever they consume. You see some couples or maybe they just met there kissing in the darker part of the club like there is no tomorrow.
You and the girls walk to the bar right away. The bartender was about to greet you but he got a call. “Hey, Dimitri. Make them the same drinks you made us. Then give those three girls whatever they want, it’s on the house. Keep the drink flowing for them. Also tell Boris to tell the securities to let them do whatever they want as long as it's not dangerous.” Nat ordered from the other end of the line. “Yes, boss.” The blonde Russian bartender takes Nat’s order without any question.
Lose Control by Missy Elliot Ft, Ciara starts to play. You enjoy the vibe around you, the music makes you move your body a little unlike Kate, she literally starts dancing as she starts to sing the lyric
“Wow, this place is always a hit. Look at those beautiful people. I always love the DJ here. Look at Kate, she is not even drunk yet but already dancing like one of those dancers.” MJ looks around and comments on everything she sees including joking about Kate. “Well, you know how she is, MJ.” You laugh. Then you feel a tap on your shoulder and you turn around so do MJ and Kate as soon as they notice.
“Hi ladies. Ms. Romanoff ordered this for three of you. Don’t worry about what you order tonight. She will take care of your tab.” Dimitri informs the three of you with a smile and slides three green cocktails in front of you girls.
Kate and MJ gasp. “No, fucking way!! Ms. Romanoff, THE Ms. Romanoff?” MJ asks in such disbelief and you are more concerned about what’s in the drink.
“What’s this?” You asked. “It’s house special drink. Trust me, this is really good with a very expensive strong liquor called absinthe. You are lucky to be able to try this.” The blonde answers in a friendly manner.
“Oh, we are definitely drinking this. I've heard about that liquor. Thank  you!” Kate quickly grabs her drink. You sweetly thank him and grab yours, so does MJ. “Well normally, I wouldn’t drink anything from—” You try to express your thoughts but Kate doesn’t even let you finish your words. “Girl! Are you crazy? It’s from Natasha Romanoff, you better drink that! Wow, this is awesome. I wonder where she is watching us from.” Kate looks around the club to find Nat but the crowd is blocking the view.
“This means she is interested in you because I saw how she glanced at you. Wanda was looking at you too.” MJ tells you and Kate as she drinks her drink.
“You did too? I thought I was hallucinating when I noticed that earlier.” You finally tell them what was on your mind as you drink the strong cocktail. “How awesome would it be if she is really interested in you??” The excitement from Kate’s tone was easily heard despite how loud the club was.
“There's no way she is interested in me.” You roll your eyes playfully. “That’s a bummer.” MJ plays along with the joke. “Why not? There's a chance that she does." Kate winks at you. “You are crazy.” You shake your head at Kate’s comment and giggle but it gets into your head a little bit. Who would say no to the charming Natasha Romanoff. The first time you saw her, your mind was already all over the place. You imagine you caress her hair in a certain position, so close to you, for crying out loud.
You and the girls hang out near the bar a little longer and drink three more of the same drink. The three of you underestimated the strength of the alcohol in it from how smooth it is. You thought that the bartender was right, the drink is strong. It hits you harder than you thought it would be.
You can feel yourself start to get drunk., not tipsy but drunk. You can see that Kate and MJ are in the same state as you. You hear the DJ starting to play Heads Will Roll - A-Trak Remix by Yeah Yeah Yeah now. People start to cheer from knowing what’s gonna play soon from the intro, including Kate and MJ.
“Y/n! I love this song!! Let’s go to the dance floor now!” Kate and MJ drunkenly pull you to get to the dance floor. The more the alcohol gets in your blood, the faster your heart beats. The louder people cheer and the song gets the more you want to move and you start to dance under the alcohol influence with your friends. The three of you laugh and dance. Your eyes start to search for Nat albeit how drunk you are now. Little do you know that she has been watching you this whole time.
She watches and analyzes you. She notices that every time a man tries to dance with you, you will quickly refuse or drag yourself away but you are comfortable dancing with any girls who approach you. The more she watches the way you dance and your smile, the more she is drawn to you. She wants you. For some reason, she sees that you are different from other girls she met.
While Pietro and Tony are busy enjoying a line or two of the expensive white powder, what a coincidence that Wanda is also eye-ing you. She recognizes that you are the cute one she saw in the line when she walked by. She is watching you sharply like a hawk. Just like Nat, the brunette wants you too. Her desire skyrockets just by watching how your body moves. Both Nat and Wanda are looking at you like you are their prey yet both of them don’t notice that they are looking at you at the same time.
Wanda lets out a little growl as she feels every inch of her crave you, and being high and drunk only makes her want you even more. “Vision, dear. I want her tonight.” Wanda demands without even letting her gaze off you as she points at you.
Before Vision gets the chance to respond to his wife's words, Nat interrupts. Stern was her tone when she said “No. This one is mine.” as she keeps looking at you. Pietro and Tony laugh a little at the unexpected small competition between the Russian and the Sokovian women.

Bucky: *listening to a voicemail from Sam*
Voicemail: So I was in Manhattan, and I think I saw this guy you’d like, sorta small, rude, bit me like five times in ten minutes, sneezed on me, looked like he had the plague, he was just your type. I think he had rabies so I’m in the ER getting things in my ass, like one does. I have to go this guy looks like he’s enjoying the view too much.
Bucky: *tired nodding because that DOES sound like his type*

New Girl [01]
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
(slow burn, endgame, as in you’ll be seeing some short term pairings here and then as well)
MODERN DAY AU
Word count: 5,417
Warning: self-doubt, anxiety, hurt/comfort, cursing
Summary: Life threw you a curve ball when you walked in on  your long term boyfriend making out with someone who definitely wasn’t  you. Since living with him was no longer an option, you’ve ventured out  at the advice of a work friend and found the absolute perfect loft to  reside in. The only issue?
You suddenly have four very odd roommates.
Tumblr media
[01]: REBOUND SEX
“Wow, I regret this.” Bucky bobbed his head once and turned to look at Peter who stood in the kitchen with him, “What the fuck did you do to us?”
“How is this my fault??” Peter scoffed.
Bucky narrowed his eyes, “Uh, I think your exact words were, ‘Come on, guys. Models will be crawling around the apartment. This will be an absolute dream.’” He pointed to the living room where you were slumped over on the couch watching the same movie you had put on a week and a half ago. “We have used tissues, a crying girl, and I now have the ability to quote Legally Blonde in my sleep.”
“There are less models than I thought there’d be.” Peter mumbled to himself.
Clint stepped out of his bedroom door, it sat by the kitchen, and clapped his hands, “Legally Blonde is a great movie. Excuse you.”
“Yeah, I agreed until about the 132nd hour of it.” Bucky said between clenched teeth. “We need to do something to stop this nonsense, and by we I mean you.” He turned to point at Peter. “You got us into this. You get us out.”
“What am I supposed to do?”
Bucky crossed his arms, “I don’t know. Crying girls aren’t my specialty.”
“And they’re mine??” Peter scoffed.
Clint shrugged, “We just assumed you make girls cry all the time. Plus, you’re like super tight with Gamora and Mantis, right? They’re girls.”
“What part of who Gamora is makes you think she cries at all?” Peter replied.
“Yeah, but Mantis seems like the type to tear up every other day at the least.” Bucky countered. Well, he wasn’t wrong. Mantis was empathetic to an extreme. He had just watched her cry at a commercial where a dog kept trying to hide a bone, but people kept digging it up. That didn’t mean he wanted this responsibility placed on him though.
Peter’s mouth fell open with a silent argument, but Bucky just glared at him and Clint’s attention was already focused in on the coffee pot. He grumbled under his breath and turned to stalk over to the living room couch where you were sprawled out sniffling.
“Heeeeey.” Peter dragged the word out as chirpily as he could.
You turned your face away from the screen to look at Peter who had just sat down by your feet. He gave you a sheepish smile and began to pat your ankle with his hand at an awkward pace. You assumed he was trying to bring you comfort, that’s probably what the whisper fight in the kitchen had been about, but it didn’t help.
“Hi.” You greeted before blowing your nose. Peter grimaced, but you just slowly sat up and pointed to the screen. “You wanna watch Legally Blonde with me?”
Peter shook his head, “No. No, I really don’t. I’d love to never see this movie ever again. Ever.“
“Sorry.” You deflated. “I know it’s annoying, but Legally Blonde is my breakup movie.”
“Right. I get that.” He paused. “Well, I really don’t actually because I don’t understand how this is your breakup movie.”
You stuck your lower lip out into a pout, “Elle Woods is a strong independent woman who needs no man.”
“Mhmm, okay.” Peter reached out for the remote and paused the TV, “Here’s the thing though. This isn’t going to make you feel better. What we need to do is go out and find you a rebound.”
You shook your head, “I don’t know if I’m ready for a rebound.”
“You’re so ready for a rebound. Sex with strangers fixes everything.”
“I don’t know…” You replied skeptically. For the past three years, you had only been with one guy. In fact, you had mentally already established that he would be the only guy you’d be with for the rest of your life. He had been your future. The thought of going out and trying to find someone new was… daunting. It also sounded a little impossible. Did you even remember how to flirt with a stranger? You grimaced, “I don’t even think I know how—”
“That’s what we’re for!” Peter gave you a broad grin, “You’re coming out with us tonight and we are going to find you someone new.”
“Really?”
Peter nodded and set his hand on your shoulder, “Absolutely. We are going to get you some good, after breakup sex.” He smirked. “Even if I have to knuckle down and get in there myself—”
“Jar!” Bucky and Clint yelled from the kitchen.
Peter cursed under his breath and moved to put money in the jar designed for him. His words hadn’t even fazed you, your time here had gotten you used to some of the things Peter said. He was a really good guy who sometimes slipped into a douchebag headspace. All the guys here were good guys. Clint was a disaster, you found him sitting on the dining room table at 2 AM once chugging coffee from the actual pot and he still used a flip phone for some odd reason, but he was also sweetheart that would sit on the couch with you at some odd time in the morning to watch your comfort movie. Sam seemed the more responsible one in the loft, when he wasn’t trying to one up or mock Bucky, and he reminded you of a caring older brother. Especially when he made you breakfast last week before the two of you left for work and talked to you about one of his worse breakups. Then there was Bucky. Bucky was… well, he was grumpy for lack of a more accurate word. He was kind of like a 100-year-old trapped inside a 26-year-old’s body. You hadn’t gotten to spend much time with him yet but you knew he meant well. He was protective of the loft group.
You sunk in your seat and rolled the thought of going out around your head. The idea of finding someone new was terrifying, but you couldn’t sit on this couch and cry forever. Plus, the boys would be there to make sure you didn’t cave in on yourself. Peter had said so himself. Fortune favored the bold, right?
Tumblr media
You shifted in the booth and tried to readjust the dress you had put on. It felt weird to be in something that wasn’t your pajamas or your work clothes. The bar was crowded, unsurprising on a Friday night, and the atmosphere was comfortable. You hadn’t really found a bar in the city that you liked enough to frequent, but this one was actually kind of nice. It was kind of a mess, not in a super great area of the city, and some would probably use the word ‘sketchy’ or ‘ancient’ or ‘weird, carpeted drinking hole in the wall’ to describe it, but you liked it. This was the bar where Bucky worked and somehow that made sense to you.
“You look great, stop fidgeting.” Peter said from beside you. Sam, on his other side, nodded in agreement and you gave the boys a small smile. It did kind of feel nice to clean up again. “Here comes Buck.”
You glanced over to see your roommate make his way toward the booth with drinks in his hands. Bucky wore jeans with a long sleeve t-shirt and a short sleeve one on top of that. His sleeves were rolled up though and he had a rag thrown over his shoulder casually. “Alright, here.” Bucky set the two beer bottles he was carrying in one hand onto the table in front of Peter and Sam then set a glass of wine in front of you. It was the same as the type you drank at home. “You coach her into finding a winner yet, Quill?”
“I don’t like your tone.” Peter replied then took a swig of his beer. Bucky chuckled once, shook his head, then wandered back to the bar. Peter turned to you, “Alright. Rules of the night. You will speak in short sentences, you will not mention anything about your ex, unless you’re talking about rebound sex, and you will be going home with a date at the very least or my name isn’t Star Lord.”
Sam narrowed his eyes and scoffed, “Your name isn’t Star Lord, dumbass.”
“Stage name, Sam. Jesus. How many times do I have to have this conversation with you people?”
“Okay.” You ignored the argument between them that you definitely had heard before and looked around the bar. There was a cute guy leaning against a pillar talking to some of his friends. He wasn’t half bad. “He’s kind of cute.”
Peter focused back on you, “Go get him, tiger.”
“Just like that?”
“Just like that.”
“Go…talk to him?? Like where he can hear me?”
“Him hearing you is an important part yes.”
Your hand tightened around your glass. Sam cleared his throat and motioned to you with his bottle, “You don’t have to do this. As the self-appointed voice of reason, I think I’m supposed to suggest waiting until you’re ready.”
“Waiting ‘til you’re ready is for pussies.” Peter said.
“Jar.” Sam snapped his gaze to him.
“We aren’t even in the loft! There’s no bar jar!”
You didn’t want to wait. You wanted to be over your shitty ex-boyfriend and if this was how you had to do it then so be it. Without waiting, you threw back half the wine in your glass, Peter and Sam both made noises of surprise, then you stood up and pointed at them, “Rebound sex, bitches.”
Peter and Sam both chuckled and you whipped around to go talk to the cute guy. You could do this. You could do this. You were a fucking catch, and any guy would be lucky to have you. Obviously, your ex didn’t think that when he cheated on you. Apparently, you weren’t good enough for him—no! No, bad thoughts. Just flirty thoughts. You could do this damn it.
Could you do this??
Tumblr media
Bucky poured another drink, delivered it, then moved to wipe the bar of any spills. When he looked back up, both Sam and Peter were sitting at the bar in front of him. Clint was at work tonight, which meant they had no idea where he was, but that was the norm for them. Peter leaned onto the bar and clasped his hands together.
“Bucky, I need you to get us into the Stark party.”
“How am I supposed to do that?” Bucky replied. Peter gave him a hard look and he rolled his eyes in response, “I am not calling my ex-girlfriend to get you into this dumb party—”
“We go every year! You can’t take this from me. The theme is wild wild west. Do you know how cute of an outlaw I make? We have to go.”
Bucky shook his head, “I am not calling Elektra.”
“Why?” Sam raised an eyebrow at him, “You call her drunk all the time.”
“I do not.” Bucky glared at him.
“You literally called her drunk three days ago.” Peter said. “Now please—”
Bucky shook his head again, “No. I’m not gonna do it.”
“I thought you loved me!”
“Well, like always, you were wrong.” Bucky replied dryly. He glanced around the bar, “Where is little miss rebound sex? Did you idiots leave her alone?”
“She’s fine. She’s picking up a dude right now.” Peter pointed behind him. Bucky leaned to the side to look past his giant head and spotted you leaning against the wall talking to some random guy. From the looks of it you were talking very, very fast, maybe not even breathing, and your hands were flying around as you told whatever story you were telling.Your hand caught the edge of his drink and it spilled back on the dude. Bucky grimaced, Sam flinched, and Peter groaned. “Okay. Maybe she’s not picking up a dude right now.”
Bucky pointed in your direction, “That was painful to watch. Go save her.”
“She’s a big girl. She’s just gotta…brush off the cobwebs. Get back in the groove.” Peter argued.
Sam took a big sip of his beer then set it down and stood, “I’ll go get her.”
“Thank you.” Bucky replied and went to serve another customer. When he came back, Peter was giving him a pleading look that bordered on pathetic and pitiful. “Quill, I said no.”
Peter grumbled, “I can’t believe you’d betray me like this.”
“—and I think it was going okay until I spilled his drink.” You said as Sam motioned for you to take what had been his seat. All three men shook their heads at you, and you groaned in defeat before setting your head down at the bar. God, you were so out of practice.
Peter and Sam said you needed a break and they peeled away to talk to some other friends while you moped at the bar. This was the place for it after all. Someone cleared their throat, and when you looked up Bucky was still in front of you. He had placed a new wine glass by your resting head. You took it with a small smile, “Thanks.” He nodded his head once. You took a long sip then spoke, “Well I guess at the end of the day, I just can’t hide my crazy enough to pick up a guy anymore.”
“I really don’t think you’re trying that hard to hide it, doll.” Bucky shook his head.
You chuckled, “I’ve just…never been good at this.” Sad thoughts began to creep in again. Doubts that you’d ever find someone to put up with for another three years. You took another big sip of your drink and motioned to Bucky, “Well, at least I’m not alone.” He raised an eyebrow at you and you continued. “Just a couple of dumped losers, huh?”
“I’m fine.” Bucky argued with a shake of his head. “It’s been six months.”
“Do you know why she dumped you?”
He shrugged, “Doesn’t matter. I don’t care. Didn’t make a difference.” Bucky grabbed a glass to clear with his rag and gave you a tight lipped, awkward smile, “All I knew was that I wanted to set her trash cans on fire afterwards so…”
“You don’t wonder, like, what you could’ve done differently?” You asked, leaning onto the bar, “Racking your brain at night, wondering what’s wrong with you.” Bucky gave you a skeptical look and you forced another chuckle. “You know what happens when you keep all your emotions bottled up inside like you do?”
Bucky hummed, “What?”
“You become old, and bitter, and sad, and a little weird.”
“Who says I’m not already all of that?” Bucky scoffed.
You pointed at him, “You can’t just pretend it didn’t happen, Barnes.”
Bucky stared at you for a moment, his jaw locked, then he leaned forward with another smile that wasn’t quite a smile, “You’re right. Maybe I should just be more like you. Watching weird movies on repeat and burning through twelve boxes of tissues and talking about it with anyone who stands too close to me.”
“Yes!” You nodded with a smile, “Exactly! Let it out!”
“I’m trying to be mean to you.” Bucky replied. “I’m very obviously not going to do that.”
“Why not??” You asked.
Bucky gave you a deadpanned look, “Because I have a penis.”
You stared back at him for a moment before speaking in a deep, mocking, grumpy tone, “’My name is Bucky Barnes and I have a penis, blah, blah, and I won’t talk about my feelings, blah, blah’,” Bucky’s lips twitched up in the corner to form a smirk, “’And I wanna set trash cans on fire or something, blah.’”
Bucky glanced away, steeling his features, then looked back to you, “Doll, I watched you spill a $30 glass of whiskey on a guy.”
“Jesus, it cost him $30?? Who pays that much for a drink??” You pressed. Bucky tilted his head slightly and you cleared your throat and straightened your back as you spoke with dignity, “I mean, maybe that’s just one of my moves, Barnes.”
Bucky nodded, “Mhmm.”
You gave him a bright grin, but the conversation was interrupted when someone suddenly sat beside you. It was a curly haired guy that you had seen speaking with Peter earlier in the night. One of his friends who was also in a band of some kind or another. He leaned on the bar with a smirk, “Hey.”
“Hi.” You replied nervously, your eyes darted to Bucky who gave you a nod. Encouraged you introduced yourself.
The guy asked if you wanted to find a booth and you rose eagerly and followed his lead. Bucky watched you walk across the bar toward a back booth. He wasn’t crazy about any of Peter’s band friends. They were all assholes, and he was a bit hesitant to let you walk away with one. You suddenly turned and shot him a thumb’s up while mouthing, ‘oh yeah’. When you turned back to the guy, Bucky chuckled to himself with a shake of his head.
To be honest, he was surprised to see how okay you seemed to be. It had been a couple weeks since your boyfriend cheated on you and yet here you were trying to get back on the horse. It had been six months since him and Elektra broke up and he was still drunk dialing her.
Bucky reached under the bar to grab his phone and shot off a brief text asking if Elektra could get them into the Stark party. She was one of the assistants that worked there, and she usually got them in every year.
Ten minutes later, Peter and Sam circled back around, and both were surprised to see you in the corner booth talking to a guy. Peter nodded, “Damn, that’s Jonny. Look at her go. What a pull.”
“Jonny is a tool.” Sam replied.
“Yeah, but rebound sex is rebound sex.” Peter replied. Sam opened his mouth to argue, but Peter whipped around to face Bucky, “One last time. I am begging—”
Bucky interrupted him, “I already texted Elektra. She got us in.” Sam’s eyes widened in surprise before narrowing skeptically. Peter on the other hand let out a squeal of excitement and then lunged his top half over the bar to hug him. Bucky hugged back briefly, but as Peter pulled back, he felt a kiss on his shoulder. Bucky motioned to him, “Did you just kiss me on the arm?”
“Yes.” Peter replied unashamedly. “You deserve it.”
A couple more minutes passed before you ran over while Jonny left. All eyes shot to you and you pumped your fist in excitement, “Guess who has a date!” The men cheered for you and you gave Peter and Sam high fives. “Yeah, I just spoke in short sentences, didn’t wave my arms around, and then I told him I want rebound sex—”
Bucky’s eyes widened, “You what??”
“—and then he asked me out!” You jumped in place. “Tomorrow is date night!”
Peter shook his head and yanked your forward into a hug, “I’m so proud of you. Our little girl is all grown up.”
Jonny wasn’t your soulmate by any means, but a date was a date. This was a very good step in the right direction and you were beyond excited to move your thoughts away from your ex.
Tumblr media
The loft was silent as five people sat in the living room staring at one another. Well, more accurately four men were staring at one gorgeous, red headed model. Natasha Romanoff sat in a recliner facing the couch while her best friend’s new roommates sat across from her staring—no, gawking.
She crossed her legs, “Do the shoes fit?”
From your in the back she heard a loud thud then you yelled back that you were alright. Natasha turned her attention back to the men in front of her. The one named Clint gave her a small nod, “You a model or something?”
“Yes.” She replied slowly. “Mostly print right now so…”
Peter, sitting between Bucky and Sam, sat forward, “You said it was Natasha?” She didn’t reply. He smirked and Bucky began to roll his eyes before words even left the blond’s mouth. “Tell me, what are your hopes and dreams?” Natasha narrowed her eyes at him. He shifted in his seat, “Are you—Are you warm? It’s a little—”
“Don’t.” Bucky said firmly, but Peter was already shrugging out of his shirt. “I said—”
Peter threw the shirt behind him, “I’m a little warm right now.”
Natasha raised an eyebrow at him, “Please put your shirt back on. Don’t make me laugh at you.”
“Can i get you a drink? Coffee? Water? Some tea?” Peter questioned. Sam and Bucky were both just staring at him now while Clint just continued to gawk at her in stunned silence. Peter nodded, “Some tea bag action.”
Sam nodded, “There it is. Douchebag.”
“Got it.” Bucky reached over to grab the jar and slapped it into Peter’s chest making him yelp in pain while trying to dig out dollar bill from his jeans.
Natasha just watched the interaction and wondered what exactly you had gotten yourself into. The red head uncrossed her legs and leaned forward slightly, with a smile she knew was more menacing than charming, “Listen to me. That girl back there is my best friend. The greatest person to walk this planet. An angel.” She laced her fingers together while Bucky took the, now one dollar heavier, jar and placed it back on the shelf. “If you guys let anything happen to her, if you hurt her, I am going to come here and crazy murder you.”
The men all bobbed their heads in agreement. Sam respected the loyalty, Bucky was a little fearful because the woman definitely had eyes that screamed, ‘I’ve killed someone before’, Clint fell a little more in love, and Peter… well, Peter.
“I’m gonna be honest with you.” Their resident idiot started again. “I did not hear a word you said because I can kind of see your party hats right now through that dress.”
Bucky sighed, “There we go.” He leaned over to grab the jar and gave it back to Peter. “Just hold onto that until she leaves, yeah?”
Natasha called out for you and stood to seek you out. She distinctly heard Sam question why Peter was talking this way while she walked out. When she opened the first door on the right in the hallway she came face to face with you lying sprawled out on the floor wearing pajamas and her heels.
You sat up partially to see Natasha standing in the door staring at you quizzically. You gave her a tight smile, “Nat! I fell and I can’t get up. I think I live here now.”
“Okay, let’s go.” Natasha walked over and helped you sit up. “You okay?”
“No.” You groaned and buried your face into your hands, “I can’t go on a date. What if it’s horrible?? What if I have nothing to talk about??”
Natasha reached forward to grip your chin, “Then you go to the bathroom, you call me, and  I show up to rescue you.”
“Maybe I just shouldn’t go.” You mumbled. The excitement from last night had simmered as you sobered up and all day today your nerves just grew and grew and grew.
“Babe, you got hurt.” Natasha replied. “That doesn’t mean you stop trying.”
Natasha was right. She was always right. From the moment you met her in the 7th grade, you knew she was right. The red head been there for you through thick and thin and you had been there for her. It took several days to convince her not to actually murder your ex-boyfriend because you didn’t want to have to hang out with her in jail instead of your favorite coffee place.
She looped her arm through yours and dragged you into your closet to change. Fifteen minutes later, you were all dolled up and feeling confident. Your friend had a very good way of turning your mess into something special. Natasha was gorgeous, and an amazing model, but you always felt like her talents were wasted. She’d make such a good stylist or designer. You turned to her and gave her a tight lip smile, “Thanks, Nat. You’re the best.”
“I know.” She replied with a quick hug. “Now go knock your date dead and if he hurts you—”
“You’ll knock him dead. I know, I know.” You laughed.
Tumblr media
Stark parties were known for being loud, crowded, and wild. The billionaire knew how to throw them that was for damn sure. For someone like Peter who thrived on huge crowds and large music, it was paradise. For someone like Bucky who liked day drinking in an uncrowded bar, this was kind of a nightmare. Still, his friends enjoyed it and he could usually have a good time as long as his friends did. Maybe he could be a little more like you and find a rebound himself.
The theme tonight was ‘Wild, Wild West’. Bucky wore his normal clothes, Sam wore his normal clothes, but with a cowboy hat, Clint had a bundle of rope wrapped around his torso which made him look more like a rock climber than a cowboy, and Peter was decked out in full outlaw costume.
“Oh, there she is. Go get us in.” Peter slapped his chest and Bucky shot him a glare.
Like Peter had said, his ex-girlfriend stood outside the doors by the line waiting for them. She looked great tonight. Elektra hadn’t dressed in costume. Instead she had on a tight, red mini dress with her dark hair pulled up into a long ponytail. Bucky swallowed the nervous lump in his throat and wandered over. His friends stayed a few steps back.
“El.” He greeted awkwardly. “Hey.”
“Bucky.” She beamed. “It’s nice to see you. I was happy to get a text from you while you were sober rather than a 3 AM drunk dial.”
Bucky waved off her words, “Drunk dial? No. You must be getting pranked or something. That wasn’t me.”
“I have caller ID, Buck.”
He rubbed the back of his neck, “Anyways, so the party?”
“Let me go talk to the bouncer and I’ll get you guys in.” She gave him a soft look, “Then maybe me and you can catch up?”
The logical side of him said that was a bad idea, but every single other side was thrilled. He nodded and watched her walk over to the bouncer. As he turned around to let the others know what was going on, some of Peter’s asshole buddies wandered up. The two loud men greeted them, and Bucky suddenly recognized one of them.
“You’re Jonny.”
“That’s me! What up, my man—”
Bucky demanded to know where you were. The others stiffened while all eyes shot to the curly haired man. “Did your date already end or did you bring her?”
Jonny shook his head, cowboy hat nearly falling off, “Who?”
Sam snapped your name at the man, then added, “The girl from last night.”
“Ohhh, yeah.” He laughed, “Look, I was just looking for a hook up. She was texting me all day long. Constantly. I didn’t want nothing to do with that.”
Clint crossed his arms, “And you told her this?”
“No. Why would I?”
“So, she’s just at the restaurant alone waiting for you?!” Sam cried out.
Jonny shrugged and Bucky had to physically resist the urge to punch the man. God, this was awful. Your had been so excited for the date. Your friend had gotten you all dressed up and now you were alone somewhere being stood up. Bucky shook his head, “Come on, guys. We gotta go.”
“But—But the party?” Peter motioned behind him.
“Pete.” Clint said. The outlaw of a man nodded once in agreement. Bucky glanced over his shoulder, spotting Elektra still talking to the bouncer, then sighed. You needed them and they didn’t leave a roommate behind.
Tumblr media
You sat at the table, eating your third basket of bread, and wondering if your water glass was deep enough to drown yourself in. This was probably one of the more pathetic moments of your life. Stood up by a guy who played tambourine in whatever band he was in. Jonny hadn’t been your type, but a rebound was just about getting back on the bike, right? Well, you had jumped onto the bike only to immediately ride out into traffic and get hit by a semi.
The waitress began to make her way back to you and you couldn’t help but sink in your seat a little. Maybe she wouldn’t see you. The woman stopped in front of you and picked up the empty bread basket with a frown, “Ma’am, I’m sorry, but I’m gonna have to ask you to give up the table now.”
“Can I get…one more bread basket?” You mumbled.
“No.”
You nodded in understanding and went to grab your purse. Before you could stand from your chair though, you heard yelling at the front and suddenly four familiar faces ran into the upscale restaurant. Sam was in a cowboy hat, Clint was carrying rope around his chest, and Peter was literally dressed like a space cowboy of some kind. Bucky looked like Bucky though. The four of them ran over to your table yelling that they were here and you laughed.
“We’re here. Sorry we’re late.” Bucky said to the waitress.
“You’re her date? All of you?”
Sam nodded, “Yes. We are her boyfriends.”
“One isn’t enough for her.” Clint shrugged. “We’re sister wives, but the male version.”
“Brother husbands?” Peter supplied.
You chuckled, but you could feel your eyes watering at the sight of them. Bucky leaned his hands on the chair in front of you and shook his head, “Doll, that guy was an asshole.” The other guys nodded and chimed in agreement. “He’s missing out.”
“You guys skipped your party to come and see me?”
“Course.” Bucky answered. “We care about you. We like you.”
Sam nodded and sat down at the chair to your left, “You’re family. Whether you like it or not.”
“I do like it.” You said, holding back tears. “I like it a lot.”
Peter dropped down into the chair on your right, “Besides, it’s Stark. He’ll always throw another party. It’s kind of what the guy is known for.”
Clint pulled a chair away from a table beside you, ignoring the glares from the couple sitting there, and brought it to the table to sit while Bucky took the chair he had his hands on. The guys picked up menus and began to look them over and you felt your chest swell in happiness. You didn’t think it was possible to be so happy considering how sad you had been just moments before. You liked these guys, and knowing they liked you enough to take care of you like this just made you so soft.
Bucky caught your eye, and he gave you a smile. Not a tense one, not an awkward one or a half grimace like you had seen, he gave you a real smile that made his entire face brighten. The kind that up until now you only saw the guys pull out of him. It made you feel like you belonged, “We got your back, doll.”
“Hey, guys.” Clint said slowly and looked up from his menu, “Yeah, I can only afford the tap water here.”
Sam flipped his menu over and his eyes widened, “Jesus, that’s excessive for a salad.”
You nodded, “It’s stupid expensive. That’s why I’ve only eaten the bread.”
“Alright,” Bucky tossed the menu onto the table, “Pizza at the loft?”
There was a chorus of agreements and everyone rose from the table. You stood and when Sam held one arm out to you, you didn’t hesitate to fold into his side for a hug. The boys walked you out of the restaurant while Clint told some story about his odd job yesterday and while the others laughed at his expense all you could do was bask in the warmth they radiated. You always thought the best part of the loft was the open floor plan, but as it turns out, the best part was the adopted family you accidentally fell into.

It was a Tuesday when Wanda dropped by.
The rain had been pouring relentlessly, and she had magicked herself to your front door, but even so, she was still soaked to the bone. It was late June and just a few minutes past dawn when you heard the hesitant knocks on your door.
The years of working for Stark have made you paranoid as you check through the peephole carefully to see who could be at your door. Your heart constricts momentarily when your eyes land on familiar red hair and those melancholy green eyes.
You opened the door, swallowing as you took her in. Drops of rain dripped down her cheek, almost like tears, as you let her in.
"Wanda," you blinked, the questions building in your mouth but unsure which would come out first. You settled with, "let me get you a towel."
You opened the door wider to allow her to slip through wordlessly before shutting and locking it with a soft click. The rain outside pours relentlessly that it almost feels deafening in the silence.
She stood in the hallway between the kitchen and your living room. Wanda looked around the quaint home you've built for yourself and felt even more lost.
You returned with a dark navy towel, sighing as you sling it over her wet head, gently drying her hair. "What's the point of using your magic to get here if you're going to get soaked outside anyway?"
Wanda didn't say anything, just allowing herself to be under your care.
This is familiar.
It was a time before Vision and just a little after when Wanda began to see him too. Then, it was Vision's job to take care of Wanda, and all of it went away—you went away.
"You should take a hot shower," you told her.
"I don't really catch colds anymore," Wanda mumbles softly.
"Lucky you, but you're still dripping on my floor and your nose is all cold and red. I can't imagine the rest of you is toasty warm," you smirked at her, and Wanda wanted to tell you that the tip of her ears was hot, but then she'd have to admit she was blushing.
You guided her upstairs to the bathroom, gave her a towel and a set of comfortable clothing, and told her to use anything she felt like using. Once she finished, she could meet you downstairs, where you'd be making breakfast.
Before you left, Wanda's quiet voice stopped you. "Thank you." Her voice is hoarse like she's about to cry. But it was sincere, and you gave her a light-hearted smile to put her at ease.
"It's good to see you, Wanda."

Wanda's skin feels warm and soft, the bath doing her wonders. She hoped you hadn't been waiting too long, but Wanda couldn't resist taking a soak first. She wiped the bathroom mirror of the fog and looked at her reflection. The bath helped return some color to her skin, but she still looked tired with her dark circles.
Wanda only towel-dried her hair just enough to ensure it wouldn't drip on your floor. She felt only a little embarrassed to be given clean underwear by you but not a bra. The clothes you give her are soft, comforting, and smell like clean linens and leaves.
This is crazy, Wanda thought.
She hadn't seen you in months, and prior to that, it was always sporadic and brief.
Wanda hadn't known what compelled her to show up at your door, but she knew much of it was due to loneliness.
Everyone was gone.
But Wanda had hardly slept and hated how Scotland looked suddenly and decided that Portland would be better—Portland—where you've been living for years.
The smell of bread, honey, and mushroom soup filled the air when she left the bathroom. Her stomach rumbled unabashedly, and she was glad you couldn't hear it. As she entered the kitchen, she found you chopping dill and parsley.
"Hey," you looked up at her, smiling as she fidgeted with the ends of her sleeve. "Have a nice bath?"
Wanda nodded, giving you an awkward jilt of her lips meant to be a smile. "Thanks. Did you need help with anything?"
You shook your head. "Should be finished any moment now. I wasn't sure how hungry you'd be with it being so early but I thought something warm would be nice. Why don't you take a seat? I left out some bread, butter, and honey for you."
Wanda felt something crawl at the back of her throat as she sat. It was such a traditional breakfast, and it reminded her how Vision once tried to make paprikash for her.
"I'm sorry," Wanda said suddenly. "For just showing up here."
You were silent. The sound of your chopping paused momentarily before it resumed again. "It's fine," you told her. "I mean, I wish you'd call in case I wasn't home. It would've been awful for you to stand out there alone."
But Wanda didn't know how to explain that your unused phone number was more daunting than just showing up. She didn't know how to explain anything.
"Are you not often home?" Wanda asked instead.
You hummed. "Not often, but occasionally I do consulting work for some non-profit companies. It gets boring being retired sometimes."
Wanda nodded.
It was lonely being retired alone. She had looked around your house and found no pictures or indications that you might've been seeing anybody. It brought forth something strange that she didn't know how to identify, so she placed it aside to be forgotten.
It was quiet again, and Wanda felt restless. There were just so many feelings inside that she couldn't sort them. She wanted to cry, wanted to scream. She was relieved. She was anxious. She was a mess.
"Breathe, Wanda."
The words were unexpected. She sharply looked up to find you not even looking at her as you squeezed lemon juice into the pot.
Taking a deep breath and releasing it quietly, Wanda was pretty sure she just wanted to cry now.
"I'm sorry," Wanda repeated. She didn't know what else she could say. "I know it's been a while since we've last seen each other—spoke to each other. And now I'm here, and I've shown up unannounced and taken a bath, and now I'm wearing your clothes—I must seem crazy to you."
You just started to laugh, coughing lightly to cover it up when she gave you a look. "You don't have to explain anything to me," you told her, stirring the pot before grabbing some plates. "I know it's been hard."
There was a pause as if you were hesitating to say it before you decided to. "You miss Vision."
The words instantly hit the back of Wanda's throat and made her eyes water. "Yes," she could barely get a single word out.
"I know," you told her softly as you came over with a bowl of mushroom soup that looked amazing, but all she could smell was her own salty tears.
Wanda couldn't hold it in then as she placed her elbows on the table, her face in her hands as her shoulders wrack. "I can't believe they're all gone. I keep waking up and expecting to see him. I feel like I can't breathe. It's not fair. It's not fair."
You rubbed her back, and she leaned into you, the familiar feeling of it all like it was just yesterday she was at the compound, alone and confused after losing Pietro.
Wanda didn't even know what you did for Stark, but you were always around. You showed her to her room, gave her Tony's stream services passwords, and gave her a list of all the shows and movies she was to catch up on.
Wanda wondered where all of that went, and she could only vaguely remember ending when Vision was beginning. But Vision was different. He had said something so profound that it had given her the courage to keep moving on.
"I know," you told her, brushing your fingers through her soft, damp hair. "You have a lot of love to give and nowhere for it to go. It's just what grief is, Wanda. And if you're grieving, then you're persevering."
Wanda stiffened in your arms.
It was so familiar. It was just a rewrite of words she's heard before—words she had never told anyone else.
"Did Vision tell you that?" Wanda thought wryly as she straightened herself to look at you.
You looked momentarily confused before guilty and awkward. You let her go, but Wanda hung on.
"Did he tell you?" Wanda pressed on. "Those words—did he tell you that they were the biggest reason I could keep going?"
Wanda looked so angry. The idea of being betrayed by someone she loved sharing something so private had you sighing.
"No," You reassure her. "Vision didn't tell me."
"Then why—"
"I told Vision that." You cut in, the words leaving your mouth in a tumbled mess that was awkward and clearly made you uncomfortable.
Wanda sat there with mild shock on her face.
"You...?"
You rubbed at your brow, taking in a tired breath. "Vision was very interested in you, and he came to ask me why you were silently holed up in your room. He knew what grieving was, but he didn't understand it like we do. Not yet, anyway," you muttered.
Wanda looked at you. You looked tense and reluctant to share any of this information, and she didn't understand why.
"I told him because you were grieving, but you also still had love to give. I told him he doesn't understand yet because he's always been alone and is lucky to have never lost anyone. You can't grieve what you've never lost," you had a distant look in your eye, and Wanda wondered if you were reliving this conversation with him.
"I told Vision that you were going to be okay, though," you shook your head as if brushing the memory away. "Grief was just love that had nowhere to go; it is persevering through loss."
The words rock Wanda much harder than they did years ago. Maybe because the truth behind the words that had given her way when she was lost was actually from you.
You, who let her show up at your door unannounced. You, who would always let her show up at your door unannounced.
You have always given her a way to remain still, a way to return, and a way to move forward.
"Why wouldn't you tell me?" Wanda's voice cracked.
It cracked because perhaps before Vision, she thought there might've been you. It never came close to anything, but Wanda still felt it. And that's why she showed up at your door on a Tuesday in late June just a few minutes past dawn.
You shrugged. "You seemed interested in Vision too. Curious, at the very least. We...I never really knew what we were. Friends, I think, at that time. Just barely, though."
Wanda remained quiet. The mushroom soup was going to go cold soon, but you didn't seem to mind as you tore a part of a piece of bread into uneaten chunks.
You seemed thoughtful. "I used to think we were just a case of 'almost'. Almost friends. Almost teammates. Almost something and almost nothing." You turned to her and gave her an unsure smile. "But now you're here on a Tuesday when I had been considering an hour before you arrived that even almost is gone."
Wanda replayed the words in her head and felt the unease she was experiencing the last few months slip away. She's still grieving, but just as you said, it was just her love having no place to go.
But...
Wanda looked at you as she took hold of the spoon and scooped some of the soup up. She's sure in time, her love will have a place to go again.
"Did you tell Vision anything else?"
You smiled at her as you also began to eat.
"I told him you'd appreciate paprikash. I can't take responsibility for him following my instructions wrong, though."

_____________
“Natasha, did you want me to call dinner in?” Sam calls out to her, walking into their living room where Natasha was sitting on the couch. She was on her laptop going over her schedule for the work week ahead of her.
“Yeah, I’m down for whatever you want to eat,” she tells him, as he walks in to sit next to her.
“I’m going to order from that Indian place we like,” he sits down next to her, pulling out his phone to place the order.
“What the hell,” Natasha says, looking down at an email.
“Okay, then I won’t order Indian.”
“No, Indian is good,” she says, “I just got an email from Diana Prince.”
“Really?” He says looking over at her laptop, “Why?”
“What the hell,” she pauses, reading over the email.
“What?” Sam says, leaning over to try and read the email.
“She’s asking if I’m representing Bucky in a custody battle with [Y/N],” she tells him.
“What the hell?”
“I know,” she says confused, “Did you know he was going for full custody?”
“No,” Sam shakes his head, “I’m more confused as to why Diana Prince would be contacting you about this and not Loki or Pepper, or someone else in the family law department.”
“Babe, I’m just as confused as you are,” she says, “She mentions how my name was brought up when meeting with [Y/N]. What would [Y/N] even tell her? I’m not a family law attorney. She knows that. Why would I, a criminal defense lawyer, take on a child custody case?”
“I mean if she says [Y/N] mentioned you, you kinda have to assume why, right,” Sam says.
“Why would she even bring up what's going on between us in a meeting with her lawyer? How does that make me involved in this custody case?” Natasha says, completely dumbfounded why [Y/N] would tell Diana Prince she had any involvement in this, “Diana Prince is the last person I would ever want to know what’s going on in my fucking personal life. Especially one that now involves her new client.”
“Very bold of her to get Diana Prince on the case,” Sam says, knowing Natasha’s history with Diana.
“She clearly doesn’t want to lose custody.”
“Yeah, but that’s the part that doesn’t make sense,” Sam says, “Why would Bucky even threaten to take Daisy away? I get things between them haven’t been as great as it was pre-engagement but I just don’t see him going straight to that option. It’s very unlike him.”
“Very unlike him,” she agrees, still lost in thought over the entire situation, “That’s the last thing he would do. He wouldn’t do anything to hurt Daisy.”
“Do I just ignore it?” Natasha turns towards Sam, “Do I respond back? Do I call Bucky?”
“This is clearly a private matter between Bucky and [Y/N]. And he clearly didn’t want us to know. But,” he pauses.
“But what?” Natasha pushes.
“Thinking as a lawyer. You don’t really want to let Diana know that. Right? That you don’t know what’s going on. Because for all we know Bucky could be doing just that, and seeing as we are way too close to the situation. We ethically shouldn’t be involved as his attorney.”
“So should I call him?”
“There is one other person that comes to mind that he might’ve asked. The only person in our group who’s an actual family law attorney.”
“Do you really think Loki would do that? Plus he’s on paternity leave,” Natasha says.
“He might. If Bucky asked.”
“So do I call Loki?”
“No. Because if he didn’t then we would just be gossiping about something that you and I are clearly not supposed to know,” Sam says.
“So do I call Bucky?” She asks again.
“That’s probably the best option.” He shrugs, still unsure about this whole situation.
“Okay,” she sighs, and picks up her phone.
“Hey Nat, what’s up?” Bucky answered the phone.
“So I’m just going to be straight up with you,” she says.
“Okay, about what?” He asked, taken back by her greeting.
“So I got an email from Diana Prince, regarding a custody battle between you and [Y/N],” she tells him, “she was basically asking me if I was representing you in this custody battle.”
“Please tell me this is some sick joke,” Bucky deadpans.
“It would be a very sick joke,” Natasha tells him.
“I can’t believe she’s really doing this,” Bucky sighs. Natasha can hear the exhaustion laced in his voice, “If she only listened to me for five fucking minutes she would see that this has been completely thrown out of proportion.”
“So you’re not filing for full custody?”
“No, fuck no,” he says, “I just wanted us to meet up with a lawyer to have our agreement made legal. So we can’t fuck each other over.”
“So you don’t have a lawyer?”
“I do,” he tells her, “but not in the way she thinks I do. I asked Loki to help me draft up our agreement. Nothing would really change aside from the fact that we both need to communicate better with each other. And that she can’t do anything shady regarding Daisy. Like for instance she can’t just move Daisy away from me. That we both need to be in agreement when it comes to Daisy.”
“Honestly I just needed a legal way to protect myself as Daisy’s father,” Bucky stresses.
“Yeah well it looks like it’s going to be way more than just that,” Natasha sighs, feeling sorry for Bucky and the situation he’s currently in.
“I’m not trying to take Daisy away,” he says, “I would never do that. That would just do more harm towards Daisy. And I would never in a million years put that stress on her. She doesn’t need to be dragged into this shit show of a mess, purely because her parents have a hard time communicating.”
“That’s why I was so confused why Diana Prince would even email me regarding this,” she tells him.
“I can’t even imagine what she’s telling Diana about this whole situation,” he sighs in defeat, feeling a headache coming on, “the last person I would ever want to know what’s going on in my life.”
“That’s what I said,” Natasha says.
“Just don’t email her back,” Bucky tells her, “I’ll talk to Loki about it, and have him send her an email explaining the situation on Monday, after I talk to [Y/N] tomorrow when she drops Daisy off.”
“Okay, if you need any help don’t hesitate to ask,” Natasha tells him before they hang up.
_________________________
Bucky spends the early evening scurrying around his little townhouse, getting things ready for when Daisy gets dropped off. He already had dinner ready for her on the stove.
The knock on his door takes him by surprise for a split second. He quickly goes over to open the door, expecting to see [Y/N] and Daisy. He definitely wasn’t expecting Clark to be with them also. He can’t help but to let out a light scoff.
Guess this is how it’s going to be now, he thought.
“Daddy!” Daisy exclaimed, throwing her arms around his legs.
“Hi honey,” he smiles, hugging her.
She lets go of his legs and runs off to go put her backpack in her room.
“Can we talk?” Bucky asks [Y/N], “just five minutes.”
“I don’t think that’s best,” Clark says.
“No offense but I was talking to [Y/N],” Bucky says, annoyed not bothering to look at Clark, “Please [Y/N]. It doesn’t have to go down this route. Please just let me explain everything and you’ll see this was all just a misunderstanding.”
“What route are you talking about?” She asks.
“I’m not an idiot, [Y/N]. I know you’ve got Diana Prince representing you. In whatever you think this might be.”
‘You’re the one that set that in motion the moment you told me you got an attorney to discuss our custody agreement,” she tells him, “you did that Bucky.”
“I didn’t even do anything,” he tries to keep his voice down, so Daisy can’t hear them.
“But you threatened me that you would.”
“I did no such thing.”
“Daddy, I’m hungry,” Daisy yells, as she comes skipping into the room. All the adults go silent.
“Okay, Dais,” he smiles, “go wash up and dinner is all done in the kitchen.”
“Can we watch Frozen while we eat?” She asks, eyes lighting up.
“Of course,” he smiles at her as she runs off with a squeal.
He turns back to the door,  “Please [Y/N], don’t do anything yet. Please. Just give me a moment to explain everything.”
“I’m sorry Bucky,” she shakes her head, “it’s already done.”
Bucky just stands there in shock.
“We should go,” Clark says, ushering her away from his front door, he turns back towards Bucky, “from now on I think it’s best if we just go through our attorneys. We won’t be discussing this with you any further than needed.”
Bucky stood there watching them walk away. Fighting every inch of his body telling him to punch Clark in the face. He really wanted to. But the last thing he wanted was for Daisy to see any of that drama. Plus he knows that the couple would just use it against him.
“I’m ready Daddy,” Daisy says, coming back into the room.
“Sounds good,” he closes the door, and turns to look down at her, “let's eat.”

After making sure Daisy is asleep for the night, Bucky calls Loki.
“Hey Buck,” Loki answers, “How did it go?”
“Bad,” he answers, “So bad, that I guess now we have to talk through our attorneys.”
“Really?” Loki asked surprised that this is all coming down to this.
“Apparently so,” he says, collapsing onto the couch, “Clark made sure I knew to no longer discuss this with them.”
“Who did [Y/N] get to represent her?” Loki asks.
“Diana Prince,” Bucky tells him.
“You’re kidding me?”
“Nope. Apparently [Y/N] told her she thought I got Natasha to represent me.”
“Why would she? That doesn’t even make sense.”
“None of this is making any sense anymore,” Bucky sighs.
“I’m just going to ask this one final time, are you sure you want to go through with this?” Loki asks him.
Bucky pauses for a moment. He knows he can end it all right at this moment. If he were to tell [Y/N] that he is dropping it all and just wants to keep things the way they were, she would. But he knows that it won’t change anything and things won’t be like how they were. They just simply can’t and now he has Clark to worry about.
In the end he’s doing all of this for Daisy, if he gives up it almost feels like he would be.
“Yes,” Bucky says so surely in his answer, “This is the only way now.”
“I’ll email Diana Prince, letting her know that I’m representing you, along with the agreement we have drafted up. I’ll also go ahead and set up a meeting for all of us to talk it through,” Loki explains how this is all going to go down, “have your secretary send your schedule to mine so I can pick the date that works best.”
“Okay, I will. Once again Loki, I’m very grateful that you’re doing this for me,” Bucky tells him.
“I’m sure that’ll change once you get my bill,” Loki jokes.
Bucky lets out a boisterous laugh. He hears a crying baby in the background.
“I’ve taken enough of your time. I’ll let you get back to the family.”
“Just one last thing,” Loki says before hanging up, “Be prepared for the good, the bad, and the ugly. Things are probably going to get worse before they get better. But don’t let it get the best of you. Child custody cases really know how to bring the worse out of a person. Just try not to let it affect you. You know you’re a good father. Everyone does, including [Y/N]. At the end of the day, this is all for Daisy.”
“Thanks Lok, I’ll make sure to keep that in mind.”
“Goodnight Bucky,” Loki says.
“Goodnight,” Bucky hangs up the phone.

“Do you have those samples for the Tanner’s kitchen remodel?” [Y/N] asks Valkyrie as she walks into her office.
“Yes, I do,” Val says, digging through the items on her desk, pulling out the samples needed, “they ended up changing the cabinet colors. Again.”
“Again?” [Y/N] sighs, “this is the third time. Are they serious about keeping this color? Because I’m headed to finalize everything with the contractor.”
“Might want to give them a call before you go.”
“Will do,” she sighs, grabbing the samples.
“Is everything okay?” Val asks, noticing [Y/N]’s stressed out look.
“Things have been a bit stressful at home,” [Y/N] says.
“What’s going on? Feel like I have no idea what’s been going on with you lately,” Val says.
“Yeah, we haven’t had a girl’s night out in awhile.”
“It’s been a couple of months,” Val says, festering to the chair in front of her desk for [Y/N] to sit.
[Y/N] takes a seat and sighs.
“So what’s wrong?” Val asks.
“Bucky and I are about to get into a custody battle.”
“Wait, what?” Val says surprised by that confession.
“Yup,” she sighs, “Bucky got a lawyer a couple of weeks ago.”
“Why? I thought things were good with your agreement?”
“So did I,” [Y/N] says, “until he mentioned wanting to have a meeting with his lawyer to discuss our agreement.”
“Why would he do that?”
“He thinks I’m going to just move and take Daisy with me without considering him.”
“Are you moving?” Val asks.
“No, I don’t plan on moving,” [Y/N] shakes her head, “at least not in the next five years. Also I wouldn’t take Daisy away from him. But he seems to think otherwise. And now things are escalating way too fast.”
“Was something just not working with your agreement?”
“He wouldn’t say. He just kept saying he has to protect himself,” [Y/N] says, “I have never once threatened to take Daisy from him. I’ve never tried to use her as a pawn. Things have always been good between us.
Things have never been this bad between us. Not in all our years of friendship.”
“I mean things were bound to change,” Val says, “especially with you getting married.”
“But me getting married doesn’t mean I’m going to take Daisy from him.”
“Yeah, but maybe he needs this as reassurance.”
“But why does it need to be this extreme?”
“He is a lawyer,” Val shrugs, “Maybe you two just need to sit down and talk it over.”
“I don’t think that’ll be a very good idea at this moment,” [Y/N] sighs, “we got into a bad argument. Clark thinks we should keep it short and anything regarding this should be discussed through our lawyers.”
Valkyrie is taken back by this information. She’s surprised Clark is having any say in this situation.
“Don’t you think that just talking through your lawyers is a bit extreme?” Val asks, hoping to maybe get [Y/N] to change her mind and just talk to Bucky.
“Maybe.”’
“Also don’t you think this should just be between you and Bucky?” Val says, “No offense to Clark, but do you think his involvement might be playing a part in all of Bucky’s frustration?”
“Maybe,” [Y/N] ponders over that thought, “Probably. Most likely.”
“Do you want Clark involved in all of this?” Val asks.
“He’s been very helpful with the whole situation,” [Y/N] says, “he set me up with his lawyer friend who will be representing me. He’s also going to be Daisy’s stepfather once we get married. So he’ll have some sort of say.”
“Yeah, that is true,” Val nods, “but you guys aren’t married right now. Do you think Bucky finds his involvement in all of this to be a bit…much?”
“I’m sure he would prefer Clark to stay out of it,” [Y/N] says, “I’m sure he sees it as Clark interfering on something that doesn’t involve him, and potentially making things worse.”
“Do you think Clark will make things worse?”
[Y/N] takes a moment to ponder the question. She knows Clark is just doing what he thinks is best for her, and he’s been so incredibly helpful and supportive through all of this. But even she knows Clark’s input will be more biased towards how he sees things and how it’ll affect them as a couple, future family.
She thinks back to being in the lawyer office and them discussing holidays. [Y/N] never wants to exclude Bucky in anything especially when it involves their daughter. So she never saw their holiday agreement as anything strange, it was their normal. She never saw it being an issue. That’s mostly because it was never an issue. She and Bucky grew up in New York, both their families are there, so it was always easy to include everyone in everything. With Clark not being from here, it does change things. She knew he wanted to say more on the holiday stuff, but chose against it. And she meant to bring it up to him, but she just doesn’t know how to go about it. Plus right now her only focus is Daisy and this thing with Bucky.
“[Y/N],” Valkyrie softly calls out, breaking [Y/N] from her thoughts.
“Sorry,” she whispers, “I think Clark just makes things more complicated.”
“In a good or bad way?”
“Both?” [Y/N] thinks out loud.
“I guess only time will tell where the scale will tip,” Valkyrie says, leaving [Y/N] to ponder more with her thoughts.

Rating: M (Mature) & E (Explicit)
READ FROM THE BEGINNING
chapter preview…
"This is your Captain speaking.”
Maggie’s head snapped up from the scientific journal she was reading as the plane settled at 30,000 feet and a very familiar voice spoke over the intercom.
“Bucky?” She found herself whispering his name, in a state of shock. Had Maggie just hallucinated hearing him?
“We’re expecting a smooth flight into the Bahamas in about two hours. The temperature there is a balmy sixty seven degrees Fahrenheit so I hope you’ve all packed your swim gear.”
There were chuckles throughout the plane and a few that were very confused.
Maggie shook her head in amusement, her cheeks flushing as her stomach erupted with butterflies. Bucky was her pilot — for real this time. He had gotten his pilot's license!
“Oh, we’re not going to the Bahamas, unfortunately. Scratch that. We’re on our way to New York and will be there in forty five minutes,” the smooth voice said with some humor and joviality in his voice by the sound of it. “You can still expect a smooth flight with very little to no turbulence. And if anyone is in need of a very talented doctor on this flight, we’re lucky to have Doctor Hastings in seat 4A. Enjoy the flight.”
Maggie blinked, her face going red. He knew she was on his flight.
The intercom clicked off and the fasten seatbelt sign turned off.
Several people turned in their seats to look at Maggie. One man spoke up right away and began to pull his shoe off. “I got this problem with my foot,” he started to say.
“Do not take your shoe off, Carlos,” the woman next to him berated him. “I told you to take care of that bunion years ago.” Carlos pushed his foot back into the shoe with a grumpy look on his face and began quietly bickering with his companion.
Maggie was grinning, despite knowing she’d have people coming up to her throughout the duration of the flight looking for free medical advice, but she didn’t care. Bucky was her pilot. He had followed through with his dreams and Maggie could not be more proud.
The beverage service began and when the flight attendant stopped at Maggie’s row, a glass of tequila sour was offered to her and Maggie knew exactly who it came from . “From the Captain,” the flight attendant confirmed with a faint trace of a smile.
There was no first class section on this plane since it was such a short flight from Philadelphia into JFK, so the drink would have cost money normally.
Maggie grinned, taking the drink. “Please tell him thank you,” she told the flight attendant, who then gave Maggie a small, folded up piece of paper.
Her face flushed as she opened the note.
Drinks?

-mostly feeds on fruit (mangoes and watermelon are favorites— and of course green smoothies)
-has a bat alter, will literally randomly turn into a cute little bat anytime he pleases
-gets annoyed by the general vampire expectations or stereotypes since hes a fruit vampire and not a blood sucking one
-small. 5’5 but he wears lifts…
-basically addicted to human foods (cheeseburgers)
-bat ears never go away and they emote with him, will get airplane ears if necessary and yes it looks silly
