Finally got around to posting this here!!

WHAT ARE EGOSTATES?

“An ego state is a way in which we think, feel and behave, making up our personality at a given time.” -Counselling Tutor (The linked article has a pretty good overview of what they normally are, I highly recommend reading it!)

In all honesty, my therapists and psychologists don’t really know what they truly are. This is just our best guess. My egos are partially separated alternative personalities, splitting off from the base personality like branches of a tree. They’re formed as a coping mechanism and act as a mental crutch for when I/my base personality is incapable of coping with reality, and operate in a hivemind-like structure. We’re all aware of each other and what they’re thinking and doing.

They are not Alters. We are not a system. My disorder is similar in some respects to DID/OSDD, but we do not fit all the required criteria for a diagnosis. My friends and I have created a similar vocabulary to what systems use, but not identical, as we do not wish to have people confuse us for systems, accidentally spread misinformation, or encroach on the system community.

Below is a list of all my egostates and their jobs! They all have special emojis and tags they use to sign off their posts, I, the Pilot, use no emoji and #mod sci! :) Only non-quote posts will have signoffs to keep things clean.

CO-PILOTS

Primary job is to carry the burden of acting as the base personality/the "Pilot” Often have other roles alongside being a Co-Pilot.

OVERSEERS

Primary job is to assist Defenders and Co-Pilots by suppressing any divergencies and keeping a low profile so potential threats aren’t aware of the egos.

DEFENDERS

Primary job is to take control during stressful situations and ensure the Pilot doesn’t suffer any more trauma. They’re often aggressive due to their nature as my protector parts, tread carefully when talking to them.

Just a stupid inside joke about me constantly forming egos with fatherly roles. Often make vote on important decisions on the Pilot’s behalf when they can’t do it themself.
