ooc. Before Miriam came to Missoula, before she even met the band, she was living on the streets for a good one and half years. A small chunk of that time was spent in the company of Isaiah Hanson, an older man who let her hitchhike. He endeared himself to her by buying her food and clothing, comforting her after the horror she experienced in the wilderness program. He presented himself as fatherly and benevolent, and Miriam, being young and vulnerable, agreed to travel with him. While she was with him, he taught her how to drive and how to handle a rifle. He showed her music, movies and literature. He made sure she ate well and slept comfortably and never asked anything in return. A dream come true for a neglected abused teenager.

Naturally, nothing gold can stay. His intentions for her were far from kind. Miriam was going to join a line of young women who fell into the same trap as her, murdered and butchered for the best cuts by a serial killer and cannibal. By some twist of fate, Miriam found his "utensils" while clearing out the truck and realized that something is afoot. She watched him for a few more days and realized a lot of offputting behavior in him that she missed before. So one night she tricks him into lowering his guard and makes a break for it. It would've almost ended in disaster when he followed her out into the parking lot, but by then she had the rifle trained on him.

Miriam stole his gun, his money and his car, and put the pedal to the metal. She kept driving until she crossed state lines, then she ditched the gun. Once the money ran out, the car ran out of gas. So she was back to square one, but one gift of his she kept: A fake ID claiming she is 18 years old.

She never learned what happened to Isaiah and she never asked. He quickly turns into another unsettling story in her mind. But he certainly laid a lot of groundwork for her later complexes.

addendum: Miriam drugged him with the drugs she found in his belongings and while she will never learn about it, Isaiah does die from the drug cocktail she fed him. Miriam walks into Hope County with a kill count.

ooc. i love that Miriam is a woman who uses blunt force. she is surrounded by guns and blades, closest always to the men who want to butcher and do surgery, to carve and flay and make incisions. but Miriam doesn't care for precision or elegance. she will grab the nearest lead pipe and do her violence. no choreography, no plan, only intention and anger.

ooc. every time I think deeply about the fact that Miriam used to be part of the death metal scene it fills me with delight. she can identify an amplifier from fifty yards and tell you whether it's suitable for death core bass lines.
