since the group of ocs started as an oddtaxi thing i really want to give them all animals but like, idk which ones. kudo is already a black panther and matsui a snow leopard because 1. kitty 2. predator animals kind of fit their more assertive personalities but then kimura mirei and himiko need animals too.

Been playing Yakuza 5 in my (non-existent) free time lately, and ever since playing Kiwami 1, I had this theory that Yakuza 0's second protag wasn't originally supposed to be Majima, because of how messy and unstreamlined his storyline was in comparison to Kiryu's. None of the themes quite cohesed in any way, and it felt like really messy storytelling (see this post for more)
Having now playing Yakuza 5 and knowing that timeline-wise, that Yakuza 0 comes immediately afterwards? I feel even more confident in this theory.
Truly, my biggest conspiracy theory is that Majima took the place of whomever was the other protag of Yakuza 0 midway through development in order to rehabilitate his image, after the reveal that he hit Mirei for aborting their kid. Everything about Majima's storyline in y0 is doing its best to go 'Look how sad and depressed he is! Look how much he suffered! Look how much he respects GOOD women! We promise you that we didn't entirely fuck up his characterization by making him an abusive partner to Mirei, you can still root for him and pay for his merchandise.'
And like...it worked. Yakuza 0 exploded in popularity because it's a pretty fucking solid game. And mostly, people usually don't make it all the way to Yakuza 4 and 5 where Majima's characterization is really scarred by the uglier elements of him being a violent, unhinged man entrenched in the Yakuza. It's such a successful rehabilitation campaign after a script writer fucked up and went too dark with both Majima and Saejima in the game before. Kudos to SEGA for pulling it off.
I dunno though. Just like Marvel can never quite rehab Hank Pimm hitting his wife, I don't think I can just brush Majima hitting Mirei for having an abortion under the rug either. Especially not when way too many people are eager to justify it and call Mirei a bad partner.
#but maybe i just love fucked up angry women with too much ambition in their bones#and a scociety that crushed them at every turn#i wish mirei was written better#her relationship with haruka where she just pushes the same misery she's dealt with onto haruka because she thinks#that will make haruka stronger#is so GOOD and TWISTED and AWFUL#but intriguing and real#but the game instead has things like 'every girl needs a mother uwu' and tries to make her sympathetic in the wrong ways???#she's sympathetic because society hates her for existing#not because she's abusive to haruka and thinks she's doing the right thing because she had wanted a child all along#that's what makes mirei flawed and bad#anyway#this series continues to absolutely baffle me at every turn#why can't i stop playing????#anyways#save haruka#every adult figure does a shit job at actually raising her#girl is ILLED with trauma and parental issues and parentification issues

CINDERELLA UPDATE - Other Possible Surprise Voices??
It seems like Bandai Namco is returning to the era of the CG anime in 2014 and are bringing voice debuts to unvoiced idols through anime cameos, this time making use of the Cinderella Girls Gekijou anime.
Of course with so many voiced right now, and with the inclusion of Starlight Stage, in where we also got a voice for Mirei, we can right now assume they are making use of the availability of an idol’s SSR as one of multiple requirements for them to be eligible for a voice! Atsumi was an example of this as she gained an SSR in June of this year!
Of course they could have easily chose Atsumi, a cute idol, due to the complete disparity of Cute Voiced as compared to other types - Passion, especially. So right now we can assume they will not be giving out random voices to Passion idols, just yet. BamCo could give us another Passion voiced, but maybe not. Its not called a surprise for nothing.
Of course, they could have just given Atsumi only. That too is a possibility but we all can dream
