For an interaction that begins with no words, this one speaks volumes.
I 💙 how Ivan approaches a visibly distressed Henry so slowly, keeps his distance, very passively does not look at him straight-on, & stays quiet. When he does look at Henry, it is with a silent glance up & he does not move to sit down until Henry gives a nod in permission. Even then, he doesn’t pry with words & or aggressive eye contact & they sit quietly until Henry is ready to speak.
Ivan never says a word in this scene. He is respectful of what is probably an awkward moment for Henry, getting emotional in front of a stranger about deeply personal family issues. He looks away to make Henry feel like he isn't being judged. He listens, he shows sympathy but not pity, and even though he does initiate the hug, his instinct is correct. Henry really does need a hug in that moment.
Both Ivan and Henry voted to expel Seth from camp, which was the right thing to do, but clearly Henry is wrestling with guilt over making that decision. The moment isn't about Seth's childhood trauma, but that context is needed for insight into what kind of person Henry is, to still feel pity for Seth after what Seth did.
It also teaches us that, unlike in the flashback scene to Ivan's experience with Kirin, he is taking the advice his boyfriend gave him on the dollar bill: Be tender.

Corey Fogelmanis To Lead Tommy Dorfman’s ‘I Wish You All The Best’ For ACE Entertainment
Corey Fogelmanis has been tapped to lead the drama I Wish You All the Best, based on Mason Deaver’s bestselling 2019 novel of the same name, which Tommy Dorfman will write, direct and produce for ACE Entertainment.
Others set for Dorfman’s first feature, which had previously cast The White Lotus‘ Alexandra Daddario, include Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Amy Landecker, Judson Mills, Lexi Underwood, Lisa Yamada and Brian Michael Smith.
I Wish You All the Best will have Fogelmanis play the creative, bright and introverted Ben, a non-binary teen who has spent their life pretending to be the perfect “son” to their ultra-religious Southern parents. When Ben is kicked out of the house and moves in with their estranged sister, they embark upon a journey of self-discovery that teaches them about love, friendship and family.
