If you're wondering how the shows in the Midnight Series are related

All of them said with their full chest, "FUCK THIS SHIT! Either you're a part of the change, or you're a part of the problem."

I really don't know what happened to GMM in 2022, but it released Not Me, The Eclipse, The Warp Effect, and the Midnight Series which all directly dealt with societal injustices and social change, and put some heavy-hitters not only in them, but also behind them to produce, direct, and create.

I hate giving companies kudos, but even if GMMTV is only doing this because it knows who its audience is, it isn't doing this half-ass. No. This is a whole ass effort.

I just started Midnight Motel so my opinion is subject to change, but something I've liked so far is the show's pragmatic approach to sex work that doesn't moralise or scandalise too much.

Kat does sex work because of circumstances out of her control, but what's most degrading about her situation is not the nature of the work itself but the fact she is underpaid and exploited by her employer. Kat and the other girls work hard and deserve better pay and better work conditions.

Sex work might not be Kat's dream job. Cleaning clogged hotel toilets is not Mote's dream job. Still, both of them are workers who show up to work every day and deserve proper compensation for the services they provide. Midnight Motel treats sex work as a job rather than simply a degrading way of life existing at the brink of proper society.

I find this approach sympathetic to the sex workers in Thailand who have been demonstrating and fighting for their rights and survival since the pandemic took away their livelihood. Sex workers were not included in financial aid packages for hard hitting industries because in the eyes of the government they do not exist and their work is not real work even though it has contributed to the economy by attracting sex tourists into the country. According to authorities, sex work is not real work. In Midnight Hotel it is.

sometimes I think back to jan/feb of this year and as great as all the shows were it makes me a little sad because every single one of them deserved more time and with the ridiculously packed schedule it was impossible to give any of them the time they deserved and just yeah. kind of wanna relive all of those shows for the first time but with more time for all of them
