Puerto Escondido...a Oaxacan escape
A quick hour flight from Mexico City and you find yourself in a cute surf town where there are more beaches than people (joking). Puerto Escondido is less known for touristy resorts and partying like Cabo or Vallarta, (though they do have a beachfront strip). Instead, it's definitely a chill, surf town and definitely a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city.
I recommend this "hidden port", where you get mesmerized by the power of the ocean and its endless beauty. Reportedly, the name, "Puerto Escondido" had roots in the legend of a woman who escaped her captors and hid here.

Gitanavida Pro Tips:
1) There’s no Uber in this small quaint town, and it's not very walkable due to the blaring sun, humidity and intensive hiking of the town and beaches. So I HIGHLY recommend renting a car, or better a “Y Tu Mama Tambien” type road bike. There are taxis but it can add up and inconvienent. Reserve those for when you drink and party on the mini-strip.
2) Whether you stay at a resort, AirBnB, hotel, get a POOL. While there are so many beaches you'll go to, you'll also want to chill pool side.
3) Release the Turtles. A truly unforgettable experience. Don't name them though; you'll regret that.
4) If you can find the moonshine Mexcal from the pinata store...bring me back a bottle!

If you wake up early enough, you'll see the surfers head out at dawn to catch the morning waves and return late evening to welcome the sunset. I imagine it's not a bad nor sad life. On the contrary, it's probably quite glorious to spend your days on the water, riding powerful ocean waves.
Take advantage of every opportunity to snorkel and explore the vibrant life under the sea and all its mysteries. Also, don't forget that on land you can walk around and explore the vibrant colors and mysteries around. This town has an amazing artisan and crafts market and you can find the most unique gifts here.

The Nahuatl word for this area was Zicatela, meaning “place of large thorns".[2] Today, it refers to the area's most famous beach.
A quick google search and I discover this RAD song by two Italians in the 1980s talking about a radioactive beach.

Oaxaca - About Town
I've been posting about specific places and events here is Oaxaca, but really those are kind of the icing on the cake. The best part of Oaxaca is just Oaxaca: the colorful buildings, the colorful art, the unique food, and just walking around to and seeing what there is to see.
We've gone at a slower pace this year for good reasons: medical issues certainly the foremost of them, but it is still a great place.
In so much of the US houses are painted various shades of blah. Here they use vivid saturated colors. It makes the town more interesting and feels more alive!

We are in Mexico, but no one would refer to the food here as Mexican and certainly nothing like our TexMex; it's Oaxacan; the finest restaurants serve grasshoppers, the sauces are frequently moles in a dozen varieties, the beverage is Mexcal, not tequila. There are drinks made from dried corn, chocolate, and ground mamay seeds, and they are really good. It's barbacoa, not BBQ; lamb or goat roasted in a pit. There's ceviche and good fresh fish on the menus. You can eat in fine restaurants, market stalls and from pushcarts.

There's history and art and culture and music. I find myself stopping to listen to street musicians all the time.
So we are very glad to be back in Oaxaca again this year and I've already reserved for next year.

el apoyo a la producción agropecuaria, el fortalecimiento el campo, el apoyo a productores de cultivos prioritarios, el apoyo a cadenas agroalimentarias, la prevención y manejo de riesgo y sanidad, que tiene una inversión de 116 millones de pesos, beneficiando a 55 mil productores del campo en Guerrero. Por su parte, el subsecretario de Autosuficiencia Alimentaria de SADER, Víctor Suárez Carrera, dijo que este convenio de colaboración tiene el objetivo de incrementar la productividad de los granos básicos con el acompañamiento técnico y el impulso a la productividad con prácticas agroecológicas. Suárez Carrera, puntualizó que la SADER tiene en Guerrero como meta para el 2022, un monto de inversión superior de mil 166 millones de pesos para apoyar a 180 mil 556 agricultores de granos básicos, de los cuales, el 47 por ciento se encuentran en la región de La Montaña, privilegiando el apoyo a las zonas más pobres de Guerrero. Por su parte, el secretario de Ganadería, Agricultura, Ganadería, Pesca y Desarrollo Rural del Estado, Jorge Peto Calderón, dijo que la gobernadora instruyó retomar el modelo de la agroecología para recuperar la base productiva que se perdió con el modelo neoliberal con el objetivo de producir alimentos sanos y suficientes, para que el pueblo de Guerrero viva en condiciones de bienestar. Peto Calderón, indicó que el modelo agroalimentario permeó durante décadas, como política de estado, primero introdujeron el monocultivo aunado a los paquetes tecnológicos de agroquímicos y agrotóxicos, con el propósito que había que producir a costa de lo que sea, mismos que han dejado efectos adversos de degradación del recurso suelo y agua.
