Hello ! Has someone already asked you about your most hated rock ? The rock that annoys you the most ? The harder rock(s) to study ? Have a great day !
Hi! Actually, not until now. I do not have a ‘hated rock’, as in every rock an interesting story can be found. But if I had to pick one, I think it would be a marble.
Marble is a metamorphic rock which originally was a limestone (a sedimentary rock made up of fossils of ancient sea creatures) that was transformed/recrystallised by intense heat and pressure. Because of this metamorphic transformation, fossils in limestone rock are often destroyed and much of the rock’s earlier history is erased. But of course, that’s not to say that there is nothing that can be done with it!
Thanks for your question! Dr Rock.

Demolish me and mould me
Into
An everlasting memory
Into
A muse
An everlasting tragedy of tears and sweat
I live for that
I live for you

52 CYCLEMORPHOSIS
Cycling can bring about an amazing phenomenon. With your feet on the pedal and fingers on the bar, the same current begins to run through man and metal. Before you know it, the bike is moving intuitively to your intention, and the feeling is incredible. You and your bike has become one.
There is no method to this. It doesn't even matter what kind of bike you are riding. A child on training wheels can experience it just the same.
This artwork invites viewers to interact with it in a simple way as it interprets this transition. It uses rows of bicycle chains to form a cyclist riding off saddle. Come close and the intricate links seem to go on infinitely. Pull back slowly and the links morph into a rider in motion.

Blog Post 3: Warm- Up: Word Substitution Poem
Happy Monday Happy Readers
This past week, I was given the chance to step way out of my comfort zone.
We explored poetry and in response, created a word substitution to the poems we read. This was not an easy task to take on. When I write, whether it be free writing or poetry, I tend to gravitate towards darker writing because I use it as an outlet for trauma I have endured. One of the poems was To the Mountains by Eileen Myles, and after reading it, and researching her, I concluded two things:
1. Eileen Myles enjoys writing in ways that can be construed as comical, yet cynical
2. Finding the right words to match her delivery would not be easy.
Word substitution takes careful analysis. Noun For noun. Verb for verb. This was not simple, but I can say, I am truly pleased with the outcome. On the right is the original, on the left is my word substitution work.
To the Mountains To the Sea
Eileen Myles Gabi Shook
when I look out while I breathe out
at you over you
how absurd to think how cynical to pray
of Diet Coke of salty water
killing me consuming me
I’m flying through I’m gliding over
the air the sands
and there you are and there we stand
white and dangerous together and intertwined
who’s kidding who life’s holding you
After this, I now view word substitution as a form of metamorphosis, as pictured above. It is taking an already beautiful work, and transforming it into something beautiful to yourself. It’s morphing. A slow, analytical change into something new, as pictured below. This is going to be a method I use in my classroom to help students reach for the stars.

These rocks have all experienced hydrothermal alteration and contact metamorphism. The 1.4 billion year old Velkerri Formation from Australia is an organic rich mudstone. Some time after burial and lithification, the rock was intruded by hydrothermal fluids that caused metallic sulphide, and ferrous carbonate + quartz mineralisation. I think some maybe related to the intrusion of dolerite around 1.2 billon years ago, and some related to basin inversion around 800 million years ago. The mineralisation and contact metamorphism is widespread but in some areas is subtle and only visible on the microscopic scale. The velkerri formation is the basis for much of what we know about marine chemistry during the early evolution of eukaryotic life. Several important geochemical studies sampled the velkerri formation and used the pyrite in particular to show that the oceans 1.4 billion years ago were low in oxygen and rich in sulphur. This environmental state is thought to have been a major barrier to the development of more complex eukarotes. However, the hydrothermal and contact metamorphic alteration, in particular the micro scale alteration were unknown when these studies were conducted. As these previous studies used bulk sampling methods, it's likely that they unknowingly sampled the later sulphides which will have influenced the results and the interpretations of the previous researchers. This does not mean the previous work is bad and should be disregarded. Simply that the results should be reinterpreted inlight of this new information. That is how science is supposed to work. It is self revising and correcting. That is how science advances and improves. However, getting paper reviewers to understand and accept this is another thing entirely. I'm currently revising this work after a rejection. So let's see if the next version is enough to get the paper out. 😉 #geologyjohnson #geology #geologyrocks #pyrite #blackshale #shale #ore #hydrothermal #igneous #dolerite #metamorphism #science #sciencerocks #earthscience #naturalhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CdaMy8-sFoZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
