Hi Brittany! And anon who is definitely not @princessfbi ;)
I should have saved the tumblr post that inspired this, but it was basically talking about how "cool" (is that the right word?) it is when someone who is handcuffed ends up using the handcuffs to strangle/overpower their kidnapper, turning the tools of their imprisonment into the means of escape - and my brain went HEY! I have "handcuffed/manacled" on my BTHB card, AND THEN I decided to make it a self-indulgent dramatic sequel to the restaurant front AU where Doug comes back for revenge
So it'll be a remix of 2x13 except with kidnapped Maddie AND Buck, and the 118 crime family desperately trying to track them down. I've been trying to be good and focus on the first installment but I was inspired this weekend and had to get bits of it out of my head
“Maddie,” Buck rasps, his eyes bouncing between Eddie and Chimney. “Where’s Maddie?”
Satisfied there are no threats lurking in the basement, Chimney hurries over to help. “We found you first,” he says to Buck. “Is she here?”
“Up–upstairs. I think Doug took her upstairs.”
Eddie shifts so he can lean around the beam and get a look at Buck’s hands. “Fuck,” he swears. “Handcuffs. I can’t pick these.”
“I’ll send Hen down,” Chimney says. “You’ve got him?”
“Yeah.” Eddie curls protectively into Buck’s side. “We’re good here. Go find her.”

SERIAL KILLER BUCK???
i haven't written much of it, just an idea i have that im !!! when maddie leaves that letter for buck saying she can't go with him, buck instead of leaving town goes to maddie and doug's house. doug's screamimg at her about money and about how she gave the jeep to buck and he sees him hit his sister. they have a fight and he accidentally ends up killing doug (but it kinda felt good?? it felt like he was good and protected his sister and it gave him this weird adrenaline rush)
so like after he finishes the academy and is a firefighter, everytime he sees a possible abusive situation on a call or something, buck acts and kills the abusers.
eddie is a freshly new detective assigned the case of these sudden deaths and then someone sets him up on a date with buck... things go down from there.

the light hits so heavy is not exactly in "active development" but it may be revived at some point--it's also been referred to as the "buck backslides" fic, where Buck starts having casual hookups again in a more...explicitly self-harming way. I struggled with this concept for a while because it just felt a little TOO OOC, but i feel like i could make it work post-coma/post-lightning?? Maybe?
Snippet:
“I’m not going to try to make you talk about something you don’t want to talk about. I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
He swallows. “I’m not that person anymore, Eddie. I’m not.”
“Okay. It’s okay.”
It’s not okay. They both know it.
“I just—it was a bad night. That’s all. It was a bad night and I wanted to feel better.”
“Yeah?” Eddie says. There’s some bite to it. “And how’d that go?”
Buck looks away. “Obviously not well.”
“You wanna know what I think, Buck?” Eddie asks. And something about his tone makes Buck think the answer should be no. “I don’t think you wanted to feel better. If you had, you would’ve come here, or you would’ve called Maddie, or Hen, or Bobby. The people who’ll remind you how loved you are. But you didn’t do that.”
“I didn’t want to bother anyone,” Buck says.
“Instead, you went out, found some guy who would treat you like shit, to make yourself feel worse."
Sleepy Buddie is something I just impulsively outlined a week or so ago when inspiration struck and it's your basic "we accidentally kissed/made out" except with a twist because it happens late at night when they're both exhausted so Buck convinces himself it was a dream and then Eddie kind of panics about it until they both figure out that yes, it actually happened and yes, they would both very much like it to happen again.

So, I can't really give you the real answer without spoiling the fic, so instead, I'll say for the jealous!Tommy fic, there are two scenes with Christopher that I'm looking forward to writing. Basically, in the first, the focus is on Christopher and Tommy, and the second on Christopher and Buck to highlight the difference there. I haven't fully figured them out or even committed to including them yet, but I really like the idea of them, so I'm looking forward to trying them out this weekend.

17. favorite finished book series.
oof again with the favourites,, hm ngl the original percy jackson series is still really solid all these years later and i still really enjoy it every time i read it!

hm ok this is a little weird but bear with me but i feel like i'm a little bit in between favourites ?? like i used to have a whole list but they were mostly YA and lately every time i try to read YA i feel like maybe it's not for me anymore
but some writers i've really enjoyed this year are rebecca k. reilly and emily austin! also natasha pulley, although the mars house did fall a little flat for me (if you've read it come talk to me i have some Thoughts)
44. the book(s) whose stories have become part of your very makeup.
sigh. i mean. unfortunately. as a millennial who has been active in fandom for 15+ years, there is a certain degree to which the answer to that is the redacted wizard books. i don't think i'm ever going to be as wrapped up in and familiar with a fictional universe as i was with that one for like ten years of my life.
but at the same time, i kind of think every book you read shapes you, at least a little bit. maybe something in it stays with you, like how nearly two decades after first reading it, sabriel by garth nix is still the reason i check to make sure suspicious characters' names backwards don't spell anything significant. maybe it's a word or a fact you learn, a style of humour you start to lean into, a new perspective on something you haven't considered before.
but like, man. those wizard books really did a number on me and it will be years yet before they're out of my dna.

What’s your favorite tearjerker people helping people moment on 911?
this one was really hard to choose, but i think in defend in place (5x08), after david made the decision to stay in the OR and continue the surgery, the way the rest of the staff refused to leave him behind even when he ordered them to, and they stuck together until they finished the surgery. i know we always talk about the ladder truck and the civilians that came forward to help lift it (and that was a hard contender, too), but there's something that's so understated, yet powerful about this moment. so i really had to choose it.

She's holding a container with what Eddie can see is Bobby's famous lasagna and he can see the man behind her with his arm full of bags.
"We also bring a lot of food. Some of it is from the catering company. They didn't let us cancel at the last minute so we kinda spread it out between everyone."
grin:
"Uh—" Eddie jumps at least half a meter when he hears Buck's voice behind him. "Can I help you guys with anything?"
He's all awkward and giving this shaky grin that doesn't reach his eyes. Eddie notices that instead of hunching over and trying to make himself look smaller, as Buck would usually do in a situation like this, he's doing the opposite.

11. anything from childhood you've held onto?
hm... a copy of the hobbit in finnish that my dad read to me when i was six. i still have the teddy bear i got for my first birthday, but i don't sleep with him anymore because he's worn through and his stuffing is falling out. the workbook i used when i learned to dive when i was eight... and several issues i didn't realise were issues until i mentioned them to my therapist
