Hey I’m trying to find a fix that’s a rewrite of season 4 after Uther kicks the bucket where instead of courting Gwen, Arthur courts Merlin. It follows the events of all the episodes the same but with Merthur and the Lancelot Du Lac episode is instead Merlin is like “fuck we’re engaged and I haven’t told Arthur about my magic yet!” And then Arthur sends him to Ealdor when he does but it’s nice happy ending!

“Come Merlin. I need a break from all the paperwork and council meetings to legalise magic. Let's go hunting.”
Merlin sighed, then smiled as a thought came across his mind. “Ok, but not hunting. I have a different idea.”
The warlock Merlin led King Arthur deep into the forest and after a while, it became clear Merlin was tracking something.
Arthur searched for signs of what Merlin was looking for. It was big. Heavy. Four legs with claws. Occasionally, the tracks would fade, and Merlin would look up to where some branches high above were broken. The creature had wings.
A griffin. In fact, several of them.
Arthur had always been disappointed it had been Lancelot, and not him, who slew the griffin. He’d always wanted to kill one himself. Arthur relaxed into the trip and enjoyed Merlin's prattle about unimportant things. More than a few times, Merlin lost the creature’s trail, so Arthur set him right.
Eventually, Merlin dismounted and beckoned Arthur to do the same, which he did. Merlin snuck to a ridge in the forest. Merlin pointed to below the ridge where there was a stream fed by a waterfall which created a small island of grass.
Arthur counted multiple griffins. He raised his crossbow, but before he could line up a shot, Merlin pushed the crossbow down. “No. Just look.”
The adult griffins preened each other’s feathers whilst the foals? Owlets? played in the stream. One of the small ones jumped off a rock, flapped its wings and fell to the ground, making a sharp cry. A larger griffin nudged the smaller one with its snout and it got back up and climbed onto the rock again.
Very slowly, Merlin scooted towards them. Arthur followed. Initially, the griffins were wary of the two humans, but soon settled, perhaps with a little help from Merlin’s magic.
Merlin sat down on the grass and drew a picnic out of his pack. He beamed a smile. “I think this is much better than hunting.”
“Of course you do. You’re sitting down doing nothing,” Arthur teased, but he sat next to Merlin and watched the griffins.
“I misunderstood them. They’re social creatures who live in groups. When they’re alone, they get scared and violent. I didn’t know that when I killed the one that came to Camelot.”
“That was Lancelot.”
“Course. Yep,” Merlin said too quickly.
Arthur groaned as he heard the lying tone in Merlin's voice. “Come on then, tell me what really happened.”
And so, Merlin told Arthur the tale of Sir Lancelot and the Griffin. The pair enjoyed their picnic; watched the griffins play and chatted aimlessly about magic until stars dotted the night sky.

Summary:
Merlin finds himself needing one of Arthur's keys for whatever magical endeavor he's on but as he tries to steal from Arthur's room, the prince himself and Gwen walk into the room, Merlin hiding himself in Arthur's wardrobe when Arthur admits the very thing Merlin had been waiting to hear for months; that Arthur was in love with him.

Firstly, A Harrowing Childhood killed me in the best way possible. Loved the end of the convo where Merlin was all “oh actually that was fucked I will cry now” cuz like I’ve been there my dude. Anyway relatable reaction and incredibly heartbreaking story so thank you.
Second, would love to hear your take on this post. Saw it and immediately thought of what you would do with this prompt.

YAY!!! I really wanted to push the idea that, whilst Merlin knows it was bad, he doesn't realise how bad until he's confronted with how truly horrified and furious all the people who care about him are. Plus, recounting things like that, even without outside opinions, can make you realise things, especially if you're recounting things from childhood but as an adult. You come to certain... conclusions, and you have thought processes and opinions that you didn't have years ago, so it's natural for Merlin, who has chosen not to think about any of this for as long as possible, to go "oh.... OH...." now that he's thinking about it again.

As for That Post, 'tis very funny. I can imagine Merlin, for the first few weeks/months, just looking at Arthur with a raised eyebrow and a kinda weirded out, kinda amused smirk, before he finally realises that... oh. Arthur is just such a posh ponce he genuinely doesn't realise how down-in-the-mud dirty he sounds when he tries to use metaphors.
Then later on Arthur tries it for real, and though Merlin raises an eyebrow at Arthur's weird new nervousness, it doesn't even cross his mind that he might actually mean it. He's learned to look past it now, so it probably doesn't even register in his mind as "Oh, Arthur's sounding dirty/flirtatious again", it's just "Arthur is speaking. Ugh". So yeah, it takes Arthur actually going "Merlin, I'm trying to flirt. With you. For REAL. And I'm not joking or using this as some sort of weird metaphor for a punishment or job I have for you. I want to smell you. I like your... face, and... and hands? And I want to... yes, I want to put your mouth on my mouth." even then it's 50/50 whether Merlin gets it or not.

A merthur/morgwen one-shot
In which Arthur hurts his wrist barely hours into a week-long tournament and is forced to watch from the sidelines. Merlin, unfortunately, is tasked with keeping him company. He decides to take his own spin on the task and what results is an imprompty game of ‘smash or pass’ with the contestants (all in the name of good sportsmanship, of course.)
Across the yard, Morgana is desperately trying to figure out what Gwen’s type is, while Gwen is desperately trying to steal her undivided attention from the ogling men so she will just look at her gods dammit!

Arthur’s thoughts: ohmygodohmygod he’s so perfect I didn’t know he could sing. He’s sounds just like I imagined, soft but rough in a low key hot way. It sounds so nice.
