Putting the "pant" in panther: Lollipop was panting before 9AM. But she finds cool spots in the garden and in the evening, rolls around on the concrete. By 11am or so, we're back in the AC. These endless 💯 degree days are brutal on pets, especially black ones. Stay hydrated and be sensible about the heat with your pets and people. Medley Midwife? ...Medley offered to help birth the baby but mama deer wasn't ready to give birth. Though she looks like she could any second! 🙀We keep an eye out at the Ranchito-lots of fawns have been birthed here, some just feet from the door or along the back yard fence. Note: if you find a lone baby fawn, leave it alone: mama goes away so as not to attract predators and will quietly return. If she's gone for more than a day or two, contact a wildlife expert. Do not remove the fawn unless you are certain the mama isn't coming back. Fawns are born without scent, so predators can't find them. And they are tiny: about the size of a 6 lb cat. I AirTag'd Lollipop 🍏🍭 I thought she'd protest the size and weight of the tag, but she's fine with it. I have yet to find a harness that's truly escape-proof for her, so at least I can track her within the inner yard of the Ranchito. If anyone has a good tracker for cats, let me know.
