Since Marvel phase 4 has come out a lot of people have declared that they are unhappy with the current direction and are leaving the fandom forever. …Okay? This isn’t an airport, you don’t need to announce your departure. You can just leave, that was always allowed.
Anyway I’ll still be here vibing if anyone wants to join me.

Is there a genre for when people from vastly different time periods are forced to live and interact with each other?
The best examples I know of is the UK series Ghosts and its American spinoff, as well as the Night at The Museum franchise. Both have characters from different parts of history living together in the modern world, but their execution is wildly different which I love.
Hazbin Hotel also counts since each character, except Charlie, at the hotel are from different decades, although this doesn’t seem to play a major role in their interactions nor is it a huge focal point of the show.
Same thing with What We Do in The Shadows, them being from different time periods isn’t the focal point of the show although it certainly adds to it.
Clone High almost counts since they are all historical figures attending a modern high school together, but since they’re all clones none of them actually lived through nor have memores of their historical time periods so it doesn’t fit.
Any other examples? Specifically having multiple characters from different time periods living together?

WHY QUEER REPRESENTATION IN MEDIA MATTERS:
Sex Education, Heartstopper, Young Royals… where were all these sweet gay stories when I was a questioning kid??? We had to grow up on some intense shit like fucking Adele Blue Is The Warmest Colour or films that hinted at non-heterosexuality as if gays were a part of the fucking illuminati. This caused us to hyper analyse everything for any trace of queerness because we were starved of representation. And look what that did to Dan and Phil, for example!
If they had been doing gay representation right from the beginning I wouldn’t have felt so scared and guilty about being who I fucking am all this time. Hell, I’m STILL scared of speaking freely about my sexuality to new people because this stupid fear is rooted into my trauma or something. I’m so happy for the next generation that they get to see all this representation and I am so very jealous of them!!!

I'm really struggling to sleep over the fact that we all sit on here and bicker about why we're mad about the newest TV show or argument we saw online, when entire races are being stripped of their lives and rights and children. not goddamn person will stand up to band together and make change. Y'all are really gonna tell me you're mad at the writers of a hit TV show over the death of a fictional character -- AGAIN -- and not about the continuation of 100s of years of systemic infanticide of native american children. None of you are enraged enough about the masses of graves we keep finding and that will soon be continued uninhibitedly across america.
News flash kids and young adults on this site - media is used strategically as a mass escapism and new movies/Tv shows/music albums are dropping at the same time as the government making moves to strip us further of rights so the media does not cover any of it. Their grip on the news outlets runs deep and it is entirely marketed off our personal information and controlled. Meanwhile for years our elders have been turned against us by fake outrage targeted at boomers and older audiences. The internet is turning into the biggest weapon against us and we need to realize when unplugging is necessary for our survival.

What You Need to Know
There’s a particular headline I’ve been seeing more and more as our society crumbles into social disillusionment and although it’s glaringly obvious to me how this headline is a perfect representation of our general lack of thoughtful and intentional progress—progress; in the sense that progress is development not simply “change”—it isn’t always so obvious to everyone and, I don’t know, maybe there are a number of reasons why but I do know that we are always too focused on what’s next and not necessarily what is. This headline reads something like, “What you need to know about…” “What you need to know about the election.” "What you need to know about Amber Heard.” "What you need to know about racism.” "What you need to know about the conservatives/liberals.” “What you need to know…” These are arbitrary articles written by anyone with an idea; these writers, these people are no more cognizant to a perspective than any one of you and yet we allow them to sift through the facts or the truth and determine what it is that I need to know about it (assuming, of course, sifting is a part of the process at all, and not simply more perspective advertising). I, without hesitation or question, absolutely reject the idea that what anyone might want to tell me aside from the most fundamental facts of the situation in any way is a representation of what I might need to know. I urge you, when confronted with any idea or perspective to actively disengage any bias you may have and to consciously zoom out as if looking at whatever city you might reside from a high distance, until all you see is grid-like circular greyish image of roads and allow your purview the flexibility to receive prospects as if roads, avenues, streets, and interstates in and out of your purview without impediment. Think for yourself, but consciously and with purpose.        I was walking through Yellowstone National Park one afternoon and not far from the Morning Glory pool a few miles from Old Faithful I stepped off the trail, where I saw a picnic table at the side of the boardwalk, to snap a picture of a river near the riverbank. Several moments later a gentlemen walked up to me and told me I shouldn't be doing that, he had a few more words to say about it. Instead of explaining to him that Yellowstone, if you’ve ever walked through there, has never shied away from placing “Do Not Enter,” “Unsafe, Return to Walkway,” etc., signs all over the place, they’ll put up barricades and build fences, they don’t place picnic tables and have biking tails adjacent to boardwalks in places they don’t want you walking. On top of that, flowers, grass, trees, and other plants don’t grow in or near dangerous thermal areas, Bison don’t walk in areas with unsafe foundations; the point that I’m making is to pay attention, be conscious of your surroundings and your thoughts and actively maintain and develop them. This man and two people he was with then proceeded to jump on their bikes and ride down the path; “funny…” I thought, “…although biking is allowed on this particular paved trail near Old Faithful, there are also hundreds of people walking back and forth every hour and whether biking may be permitted or not, is it actually safe?” The thought did not once cross that guy’s mind, but he was certainly concerned about me walking along a trail near the boardwalk by the ‘Faded Glory’ pool down to the riverbank. Please, think and live consciously. (Don’t be like the author of those headlines and don’t systematically judge and question people without thought to your own actions, and even then, when confronted with the freedom(s) of choice to question another human beings’ actions and reactions, don’t—not directly, you have the freedom to say something, and you have the freedom to not; don’t. They don’t care what you think, and besides when you do that, you’re not doing it for them you’re doing it for yourself, and that makes you a human piece of garbage. I promise you, you have enough to work on regarding your own sense of conscious living, don’t think about why they did something, think instead about why you didn’t, and that’s enough). Please, think and live consciously.

Call 2 Action
It’s no secret that the white man dominates all of the West, if not the world. It’s also no secret that this isn’t anything new-- supremacy of white complexion, religion, and culture has existed in both practise & ideology long before 17th century colonialism.  What is new? Technological media. From social media like Instagram and Twitter to cinematic media like the MCU and Elden Ring, humans are constantly expanding in the realm of entertainment. This provides a platform not only to people you never want to see like James Corden, but also people that come from cultures that have been historically swept under the rug, so to speak. So; What do we want?
What do we want?
In a society with so much emphasis on entertainment, seeing oneself on the big screen is an insurmountable feeling. Not only does casual representation feel good, but it also changes the way we see other people around us. Disney-Pixar’s Turning Red gave many non-Chinese viewers a fun, cute, and informational look into the complexities of Chinese culture and the stress of generational trauma in immigrant families. Alice Oseman’s comic-turned-Netflix-original Heartstopper presents gay love in an innocent and pure way, which combats the expectations surrounding MLM (men loving men) relationships of being impure or inherently sexual.  What we want is representation. Studies show that representation in popular media changes the perception of not only outsiders or non-minorities, but people who belong to these groups as well. Seeing anyone other than a white man in a position of power inspires young ones and gives them a foundation for their hopes and dreams, and it is the children who are always the most important to the future of a society-- with better, diverse representation (such as GBH’s Molly of Denali), we are directly inspiring a new generation of doctors, teachers, artists, and others that offer fresh perspective and great determination to their field.
How do we get it done?
It’s pretty clear that there aren’t any SONY or Disney big-shots waltzing around Tumblr-dot-com for some good user-based criticism. The only celebrity that we know of who hasn’t been scared away from this hellsite is resident Beloved Neil Gaiman (author of American Gods, Good Omens, Coraline, and many others).  However, it’s also clear that these industry titans don’t exactly care about the voices of minorities as they’re too busy exploiting people for profit. So, what can we do about this?  There are a myriad of acceptable answers, the first and foremost being: Make the representation you want to see. It’s an oversimplification for sure, but it doesn’t mean that it’s ineffective. Independent, self-published books are a good source of perspective and understanding. So are comics, whether you post them digitally on Tapas or Webtoon, or prefer to keep them on your Tumblr art blog. It’s absolutely not the same thing as representation in media that is consumed in droves and twittered about constantly on social platforms, but that doesn’t mean that people won’t see it. Even if only a single person comes away with a fresh perspective and hope in their heart, it has been a successful endeavour.  If you aren’t a creator and can afford to support creators bringing representation into the media, donating financially to independent artists helps to provide the equipment needed in order to create. Patreons, Kickstarters, and Kofi are all great places to start. If, for any reason, you can’t support queer and POC artists financially, there are always alternative ways to show your appreciation. Boosting artists on social media and drawing attention to disparities in media representation help spread reach across larger audiences. Additionally, if there are shows/games/movies that you think do a good job of representing groups of people, Tweeting your appreciation goes a long way. Often, execs look at social media like Twitter to gauge engagement on their show. Shows with low engagement are more likely to be cancelled prematurely.
Steps for actionable change
Change isn’t something that can be secured through logic alone. Sudbrink, author and trainer with over 20 years of experience in management, simplifies change in people to five steps. Translated into applicable terms, these steps are:
Step 1: Awareness  Knowing that there is injustice.  Step 2: Desire  Wanting to fight injustice. Step 3: Knowledge  Understanding the injustice; what it is, who or what is causing it, the context behind it, and how to help.  Step 4: Action  Taking action to fight injustice.  Step 5: Perseverance  Continuing to fight injustice.  Fighting oppression, tyranny, and injustice is much easier said than done. It is not something that can be done alone. Do your part in mending the disparity between cishets in media and queer + BIPOC voices in media in any way you possibly can, even if it’s simply supporting queer and BIPOC projects or spreading awareness. Remember: Awareness is the first step!

Sometimes I see people discuss a piece of art/media in such a way that makes me think "okay did you actually watch/play/read X, or did you just watch 2 video essays about it, cause it sounds like you just watched 2 video essays about it"
And some people sometimes admit it to it
And look, I'm not trying to be a Gatekeeper, not in the slightest, but I don't think it's particularly toxic to say "Hey most opinions about art/media are only worth thinking about if you experienced said art/media to ANY extent"

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

So, just curious how many writers and creators will have to be forcibly outed by relentless harassment before we acknowledge that "This queer characters was written by a cishet person and that's why they're bad" is not good criticism.

I genuinely hate the whole "generation gap" thing, especially when it comes to older media. Other than just being obnoxious & annoying about your nostalgia & childhood, you're basically just discouraging people from consuming it for no good reason, then get upset when someone inevitably dislikes a single aspect about it or hates it entirely, especially when you seemingly refuse to acknowledge problems in the work or the time-period it was made in.
Just because it was in The Past™, doesn't particularly mean that everyone is going to enjoy it, nor has to. And consuming said-media doesn't put you higher on the social ladder either, and acting like it just makes your and the community you're under look pretentious.

Meta Managers Are Urged to Identify, Push Out Low Performers
Meta Managers Are Urged to Identify, Push Out Low Performers
Meta Platforms Inc.’s head of engineering told his managers to identify and report low performers so they could force those employees out of the company, in the latest sign of belt-tightening at the social-media giant. “Every manager needs to think about each person on their team and the value they are adding to Meta,” wrote Maher Saba, Meta’s head of remote presence and engineering, in a post…
