Just dropping my random art for “The Amazing World of Gumball” fans out there while waiting if any news for an upcoming movie or at least an HBO Max series will come out eventually. Though can’t help for the most part from that Season 6 episode could’ve get an rewrite instead of making Baby Anais a devilish monster….I know. I originally saved this from few months ago for this year, by the way.
Now for saying in Spanish writing added for the first time. ⬇️

[throws hornet nest at u] Tim Drake for the character bingo
Tumblr media
Nothing anyone else likes about him is technically canon. There's a caveat to works better as a dynamic which is that he works better in a dynamic with anyone besides Bruce which makes him the worst possible choice for Robin and launches him straight into why is he here territory
Tim Drake's existence irrevocably changed the face of Batman for the worse because his dynamic with Bruce is so bad and we need to permanently take him off anything resembling the title Robin

I want to talk a bit about the framing device in Inscryption, because it’s really fascinating to me.
Now, anyone who was on the internet in the 2010s probably wasn’t too surprised with the ultimate direction of the narrative and the narrative device that walks hand in hand with it. But that’s not quite what this is about.
The framing device I’m specifically referring to is Luke Carder’s basically Let’s Play of the game, and card opening videos.
What really stands out to me specifically is the first set of card pack openings. We’re given a little bait and switch where he starts talking about a card game completely unrelated to Inscryption, which is a little amusing but also solidifies the idea that Inscryption is not his primary focus, not initially. He has other things, many other things, that he’s interested in and does outside of the game we know. That there is a world outside of Inscryption.
Then, he gets the Inscryption packs. This gives us some interesting background on the titular card game: it was a short run, probably cut even shorter, and only done once. Something clearly interfered with the production of Inscryption, because TCGs love to keep going forever.
What’s really interesting to me here is the cards: he mentions that a Foil Mantis God is worth decent money. Now, I don’t know about you, but as a player I was going “Ah, yes, Inscryption, the game I know everything about at this point. What a funny little interlude!”
And then?
Luke pulls out the rare: a Blue Mage.
And suddenly my smugness turns to abject confusion.
Mage? The Blue Mage? What in the world? That has nothing to do with the creatures I just spent hours manhandling into defeating the DM, has nothing to do with Prospector or Angler or other bosses or characters.
Suddenly, the world I thought I knew was proven to be incomplete.
And then the game opens on Act 2, and suddenly I understand, that there are other decks, but at the same time I’m still surprised.
It’s a really elegantly-done bit, and I admire the timing of the framing device as a whole: if you pay attention, you may remember Luke’s voiceover at the very beginning of the first section. You may have noticed the screen pixelating and smoothing, as if viewed through the lens of a camera with autofocus. And yet, it’s so easy to be surprised by the reveal(s), that you’re technically watching someone else play, that there’s a larger game altogether, that there’s far more decks and a far deeper lore and wider world than you may have expected from the singular viewpoint of Leshy’s cabin.
The timing of the framing device -the video intermissions- is really well done. It’s so easy to forget it exists right up until you’re reminded. I think it’s very interesting that despite his confusion with the game as a whole, Luke ‘interrupts’ the gameplay to cheer if/when you get the Good Fish, meaning that even if he didn’t know about the Angler, he was aware of this card in some fashion - aware in a way the player is innately not, because Inscrpytion-the-games-within-a-game exists in his world, not ours.
This is part of why I feel like the gameplay is in itself part of the narrative. You get pieces of the story and lore by playing and understanding what’s going on. It’s a really interesting storytelling process, and again while the general thrust of the external narrative is nothing new to anyone familiar with, say, The Blair Witch Project or Marble Hornets or so on, the way in which it’s presented makes it feel much fresher and newer.

(From Joe) PM: Is it true what I heard? Logan is gone?
PM: It is. The whole experience at the auction house and the following project took a toll on him. I suppose I...wasn’t enough after all that.

Batman for the character opinions bingo?
Tumblr media

There's 50 different versions of Bruce and I like some and despise others (thus the question mark over technically canon) but I would marry Golden Age Bruce Immediately
The reason Minkhoa Khan exists is because James Tynion understood that Batman is at his best when he has a partner you're not sure if he means in a gay way or in a detective way and the 1990s ruined Robin
why does he look like that but in a good way
He doesn't need 50 books to himself though let Ollie have one

Had a dream that Elon Musk was on a trip and went missing (not dead, just delayed) and like the entirety of the human race descended upon his skyscraper (does he actually own a skyscraper? i do not know nor care) to loot the place. For some reason we were breaking in via the roof and working our way down. It got progressively spookier and more monster-filled and was literally a video game dungeon. Not actually anything scary happened but the tone was there. There were minecarts.
