So yesterday I was sitting at my outside table and chairs eating potato chips, and today I am sitting at my table and chairs WITHOUT potato chips. The chickens are having a hard time comprehending that this is possible, and they are on a desperate search for chips.

A/N ~ Hey! So I made the reader more of a sister figure in this story than an actual sister, and it's kinda open-ended so it could get a part 2 if you like it. I hope this works for the request!
••••••
You brought your leg up and rested the ball of your foot on the coffee table that sat in front of you, the wooden table scooting back just slightly as you pressed your foot onto it. Your knee squished tight into your chest as you leaned forward with the open nail polish bottle in one hand and the brush in the other, the pale blue paint dripping down the stem of the brush. With a shaky hand, you carefully painted thin swipes of the blue color across each of your toenails while making sure not to drip the paint on anything.
Music played faintly from the stereo sitting by the large window, light flowing through the curtains to fill the room with a yellow hue. The quiet rock music flowed around the room eliminating any silence that lingered.
Once each of your toes was painted you twisted the cap back onto the nail polish bottle and set it down on the coffee table. You stretched your legs out in front of you letting them stay atop the table as you leaned back and sank into the couch cushions.
You closed your eyes and threw your head back to rest on the back of the couch, a long sigh leaving your lips as you sat there listening to the quiet music. A moment later you heard a noise outside the window, the faint whispering sounding stark against the relatively quiet guitar riffs that sounded from the stereo.
Standing slowly making sure to keep your freshly painted toes safe from the carpet you tiptoed over to the front door. You grabbed the small metal bird statue that sat on the table next to the door, clutching your new weapon tight in your hand as you stood up and looked through the small peephole in the door.
You held your breath as you gazed through the door to try and see who was outside, upon seeing who it was you were even more confused than you had been a moment ago.
Billy Hargrove.
You dropped back down onto your feet and stared at the door, jumping slightly when he knocked on the other side. What was he doing here?
“Y/n? It’s Max!” The familiar voice of your favorite red-haired girl sounded after the second knock.
You quickly glanced down at the watch around your wrist, the time reading 4:37. You had nearly forgotten that Max was coming over for movie night, with everything that happened at the mall just three days prior you assumed movie night had been put on hold.
You turned the locks on the door, each one clicking quietly as you did, and slowly pulled the door open.
“Did you forget about movie night?” Max’s arms crossed over her chest as she stared up at you.
Your eyes flicked from her to her stepbrother standing a few paces behind her, his hands shoved in his pockets and his eyes on the ground. He had tried to hide the cuts and bruises on his face with his hair, the wounds a visual reminder of everything he had done.
Max turned her head back to Billy, staring at him over her shoulder before whispering something to him that made him pull his eyes up to meet yours. His eyes settled on the bruise which still graced the side of your face— the bruise he had given you —before looking at the flowers growing along the sides of your house.
“I uh- I wanted to stop and see how you were?” His statement sounded more like a question.
“How I was?”
Max gave you a reassuring smile as she stepped past you and into the house, “I’ll get the movie ready.”
You stepped outside fully and pulled the door closed behind you, leaning your back against it, “I think I should be asking how you are, considering you were the one who was flayed and all that.” You pushed your hands down into the pockets of your jeans resting your thumbs on the outside.
You could see how visibly uncomfortable Billy was as he rocked back and forth on his heels, his eyes looking anywhere but your own, “Yeah, I guess so.”
“I don't bite Billy,”
His eyes finally settled on you, “I’m sorry,” The simple statement was hard for him to say, “I’m sorry for everything, I've been nothing but horrible to you ever since I moved here and you didn't deserve it.”
You pulled your hands out of your pockets and crossed your arms over your torso, “This is true,” you nodded.
“I’m so sorry. You kept Max safe when I was messed up.” He pulled his hands out of his coat pocket, their bruised knuckles now on full display, “And I nearly killed you for it,” his voice trailed off sounding weaker than you had ever heard him, broken.
You breathed in a slow breath, “That wasn't you Billy, not really, it was the Mind Flayer who did all of that, you were just unfortunate enough to be his puppet,” you explained to him.
You didn't know why you were trying to convince him of this, maybe for Max’s sake, she may have claimed to hate her stepbrother but you could see how scared she was when he almost died in the mall. She would have been devastated if he died.
Your gaze moved past Billy to the old station wagon parked along the street, “Whose car is that?”
His brows lowered, clearly thrown off by your off-topic question, “Susan’s car, Max’s mom, she let me borrow is to drop Max off here.”
“No hope for the Camaro then?” You pushed off of the door.
He shook his head, “Definitely no hope.” He said as he turned back to you, his shoulders seemed to relax a bit, “Can we start over Y/l/n?”
You leaned back and looked in the window beside the door, Max was plopped down on the couch in front of the Tv with whatever movie she had picked from your collection queued up on it.
“I have no clue what movie she picked out to watch, but you're more than welcome to stay for movie night.” You looked back at Billy, “I’ve got popcorn.” You offered.
A small— but still very much there —smile appeared on Billy’s face, “I like popcorn.”
“Good!” You smiled back at him and opened the door before strolling through.
“About time!” Max called from her home on the couch, “Is Billy staying or what?”
Billy closed the door behind him, “Yeah I'm staying kid.”
Max threw both of her arms out, letting them rest on the back of the couch, “Good, now get in here you two, or I'm starting the movie without you.”
You shook your head and rounded the couch to see Max had already popped the popcorn and had it sitting in front of her in a large red bowl. You sat down beside her on the couch and grabbed a hand full of popcorn, flinging a piece at her head before dumping the rest into your mouth.
“You gonna sit down Hargrove?” You asked Billy who still stood in the doorway.
“Get in here!” Max yelled as the movie started.
You smiled as Billy walked around and sat in the recliner next to you smiling.
