Going to other's Admiral's barbecue, after the mission, becomes almost fun. Generally Ice tries to avoid them because he knows enough secrets this people carry around that's difficult to look at them straight in the eyes and forget. And every single Admiral's wife has someone to introduce to him because he can't be still alone after all this years! More than once Ice had thought to came out just to shut them up.
But after, after it becomes a playground. All the invitations close with a bring your spouse and your kids! and, for the first time in forever, Ice doesn't only have one of this things but two. He has twelve kids, not one, twelve. It's hilarious and hysterical. It's perfect. It makes Maverick wanting to arrive before everyone but later than most because he wants all the audience for the big reveal. Admiral Cain's wife faints when she saw how many they are and Cain himself almost throw a punch in Maverick's face when he discovers who is husband his. They are both having the time of their life.

Bring your grandpa/dad to work day, but Jake got attached to this old man named Tom.
Tom was some old guy he snarked off at a coffee shop once and was pleased when the older man calmly gave a witty retort.
He keeps on bumping into the man in the same coffee shop, but he bumps into the old man at the park and grocery place at well.
Surprisingly they hit it off, and Jake looks forward to seeing Tom even though he'll never admit it. Tom's getting fond of the boy. Especially when he realized 3 months in that this was the same Jake "Hangman" Seresin who saved his husband and Baby Goose.
One day there was a bring your dad/grandpa/son to work day. Jake was talking about it to Tom, sad that he doesn't really have anyone to bring and was planning to call out because even tho Mav is great and Javy's family always welcome him, he feels like an outsider in those events. Tom hesitantly offered to come, not wanting to overstep, and Jake looked overjoyed.
Tom comes to the event and Jake was showing him around the base, and the shenanigans he gets into with his squad (Tom is delighted to gain some more blackmail against Mav). He also starts introducing Tom around, and some people are staring wide-eyed or straight up choke when they see Tom.
Why the fuck is the COMPACFLT here and in civvies!??? AND HANGMAN IS CALLING HIM, TOM???
Iceman makes sure to give his trademark glare to everyone who even thinks about mentioning his title or saying something to Jake. Everyone just snaps their mouths shut and smiles awkwardly.
It continues with Jake dragging THE ICEMAN around like an excited puppy, and Tom looking fond and ruffles Hangman's hair every few minutes. The base didn't realize how young Hangman really is until that day.
Eventually Tom and Jake run into Mav and Bradley and both have their mouths wide open as Jake introduces Tom to them.
Eventually ends with Mav saying, "Hey! I adopted him first!" While pouting.
"He takes after me more," Ice says giving Mav a grin as he slung an arm around Jake's shoulder to pull him against his side.

[In a world where Bradley's papers were never pulled, so he never stopped talking to his parents]
Bradley, on the phone: Hey pops, I forgot my homework. Can you drop it off at the seminar hall? It's empty, don't worry.
Ice: OK.
Ice, walking into the full Top Gun classroom:
Bradley: EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM OWES ME FIVE DOLLARS, I TOLD YOU MY DAD WAS AN ADMIRAL

We’re Always Here For You
platonic..icemav x reader
summary: Hawk goes into labor , but with the help of Maverick and Ice she’ll get through it.
callsign:Hawkeye
TW: non graphic birth, pain, fluff
* Edward is Ice’s MN, and William is Mav’s MN
“No Pete you can ride your motorcycle in a storm” Ice deadpanned looking at his husband with annoyingness.
“What ya think Hawk?” Maverick prompted looking at her waiting for an answer, mostly waiting for her to side with him.
“Hawk”
Hawk couldn’t form any words right now, her brain had felt cloudy. Her underwear suddenly wet, and her stomach felt like it was flipping.
“Hawk?” Ice shot a worried glance at her trying to figure out whats wrong with her.
“dear grab her,and I’ll grab some things”
Maverick approached her by softly grabbing her and allowing her to lean her body into his.”You okay Hawkeye?” Maverick said into her head they slowly started to sway their bodies together. “He’s coming” she stated painfully , she muffled her moaning by biting her lips together.
“Hey, Hey none of that please” Maverick ordered gently rubbing your knuckles with his hands getting her to un bite her lips together.
“He’s right kiddo, your having a baby, be as loud as you want and need to be” Ice started lining the bed with trashbags and grabbing washcloths and blankets and the scissors he sterlized.
“O-ok” Hawk mumbled feeling the baby drop even lower than he already was.
“How about we move to the bed?”
Hawk nodded her head, and Maverick was in front leading and Ice was behind her with his hands on Hawk’s waist steadying her each time a contraction came.
“Wasn’t supposed to be like this”, Hawk says. She feel them to lower her body down on the guest bed lightly.
Ice looks up with from his end of the bed smirking.
“Things happens Hawkeye, Im glad you weren’t alone.
Hawk turns her head into Maverick’s neck moaning loudly as she can, rubbing her hands up and down her stomach. She can feel the baby in her pelvis dropping lower and lower with each contraction.
She fell into a light slumber of sleep.
“Pete” Ice started as he sat on the otherside of Hawk, looking at his husbands eyes.
“I know Tom, she’s having the baby whether we can help it or not” Pete says stroking Hawks face soothing her thrashing body.
Ice nods his head, looking the clock on the wall it read 3:52 am in the morning. God was he tired but his daughter needed him more than anything. He may have of recovered from cancer a long time ago but his body still felt the effects of chemotherapy and cancer and being old all together.
Taking a deep breathe, gathering thoughts focusing himself on hawk and her unborn son.
“Obviously he’s not coming right now , so let’s sleep for a little bit”
“Mav”
“Nope” Maverick cuts him holding his hand with reassurance.”They both need us to be 100%“
Pete realized he was talking to himself when he heard the snores of his husband.
****
“Hey their little guy” Maverick cooed happily
“Well kid, whats his name?” Ice asked looking at Hawk ready to hear his grandson name.
“Happy Birthday William Edward Grant” she teared softly looking at the men she considered parents.
Maverick let out a watery chuckle, gazing at the newborn that layed quietly in his arms, snuggling against Mav’s arms.
Will’s little hands thrashed attempting to grab the man’s hand not Mavericks but Ice’s hand.
“Its alright Will I’m here” Ice assured softly to his grandson. He smiled at his husband and Hawk silently thanking her for the namesake unsure if he spoke he would break down on the spot.
We love you Will.

F-14 (Family of 14) Chapter 3
Chapter 1:
Chapter 2:
Chapter 4:
Also on AO3:
Hope you guys enjoy! If you want on the taglist let me know! (See guys I am learning Tumblr)
Not fully sure where this story is going other than it will be IceMav and their 12 adopted dagger squadron kids!
The dagger squad is determined to find out who Maverick is married to, leading to some shenanigans and eventually the reveal! Followed by one shots featuring MavDad Icemav and Dadmiral with the Daggers! Feel free to leave requests and ideas!
Followed Maverick plot but Icemav is a thing, some changes along the way, all set up to show Mav and Ice and their adopted Dagger Squadron kids!
"I already miss you." Mav said softly.
"I miss you too Pete. If I didn't have to be here I wouldn't." Ice promised from the other side of the country.
"You know, for once it's not me causing us to be in separate locations and have to video call. You have to admit that is quiet a feat. Especially, since my current posting has me basically permanently home." Maverick teased.
"That just means you have to deal with what I dealt with for how many years?" Ice gave him a knowing look, "And it means you can't get in trouble while I'm gone."
"I have enough reasons to stay put."
"Good, now I am disappointed we have to postpone our reveal to the Daggers."
"Nah, this will just make it even funnier. I was thinking of inviting them out to the hanger tomorrow."
"Don't you dare let it slip without me there. I have to see the reactions."
"I will do everything in my power to prevent that. However, I think I will leave up our wedding photos. I have plenty of photos up, it will be hard for them to realize that it's my husband in the picture and not just my wingman. Also there are several pictures of me with people at the wedding up, and we are all in uniform."
"Fair point, plus it will just be that much funnier when they realize they literally had our wedding photo out."
"Also, I think I am going to fill Bob in later today, make sure he doesn't give them too much information or theories and make them realize. Feel up to another video call later in which we do a reveal, therefore you get to see the reaction."
"I would be delighted, however that does not take the place of our evening call."
"Never, I love seeing you and talking to you too much."
"Alright, after their debrief today I will hold Bob back under the guise of wanting to discuss some extra WSO stuff. Also, they don't know I know about the current bet so they have no reason to believe that's what it's about."
"Sounds like a plan, the conference won't start til tomorrow morning, so I can answer at any point. You on the other hand need to go start class. You can't get in trouble especially when I'm on the other side of the country."
Maverick nodded with a smile.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
---
"Alright, I think I've corrected yall enough for one day, everyone head out, and don't forget my hanger tomorrow. I sent yall the address. Dismissed." Maverick told his daggers after hours of lecture.
"Bye Mav!" They chorused on their way out.
"Bob, hold back for a second." Maverick ordered as the rest headed out, Bradley still feiging grabbing his stuff in order to hang back.
"Sir?" Bob asked.
"I hear there is a bet going on." Maverick said with the most stern expression he could come up with.
"Yes sir." Bob said, trying his best to keep a professional tone of voice and not let the fear squeak through.
"Well, I have someone who would like to talk to you about that." Maverick said pulling out his phone and pressing the video call button.
Bob's eyes were wide as he feared what was to come next. This was never in his training.
Bradley slowly made his way to the side with his phone filming.
"Lieutenant Floyd, I hear there have been some rumors flying about me?" Iceman answered the phone with his famous cold expression.
Bob's eyes went wider than they thought possible.
"Sir-" Bob wasn't sure what to say.
"Bob, I would like to officially introduce you to my husband, Admiral Tom 'Iceman' Mitchell-Kazansky."
"So I was right?" Bob finally spoke looking over at Rooster.
"Pops, just clarifying you are married to dad right? Which makes Bob's bet correct?" Bradley said with a smirk on his face.
"That is correct Baby Goose."
Bob froze once more, this was far more information than he was expecting, and he wasn't expecting any of it.
"I think you two broke Bob." Maverick laughed.
"You know, so much has just made sense." Bob finally spoke.
"Information tends to do that." Ice said in a dry tone.
Once again Bob learned something new, the admiral was sarcastic. Though that fit with Maverick.
"So, kid, since you are the only one to guess correctly, we are pulling you in on the plan. Also because you knowing could corrupt the plan if we didn't interfere." Maverick informed him.
"What do you need me to do sir?" Bob said, a small mischievous smirk making it's way onto his face.
"Be our Stealth Pilot. Collect information that Bradley doesn't get, report to us, and have fun messing with the narrative. Especially at the hanger tomorrow. We planned on the big reveal being sooner however Ice was called away for a conference, so we have more time to mess with the others."
"I'm in."
"I figured as much. Tomorrow, I need you to both dissuade and encourage the theory that Ice is my husband. No too much either way though. Just don't push the fact we are married too much to the point that they actually figure it out."
"I want to enjoy the shock on their faces, so they better not uncover the truth when I am not there." Ice gave his admiral glare.
"I would be delighted sirs."
"Good, have fun lieutenant."
---
"I'm sorry, you just casually have a P-51, and you never told us about it?" Phoenix asked incredulously.
"I'm show it to you now am I not?" Maverick rolls his eyes.
"Can we fly it?"
"Do you know how to fly it?"
"Well, no..."
"Then you all can take turns being the back seater, how about that?" Maverick offered.
A collection of cheers were heard from the squadron.
"But not all you today, we can do a few every now and then." Maverick amended, there was not time for him to go up and down with all 12 of them today.
The pilots grudgingly agreed.
"Hey Mav, is this who I think it is?" Coyote asks pointed to a series of photos on the wall.
"That would be Goose, Bradley's father."
"Wait, he played the piano too?" Omaha asked.
"Where do you think Bradley got it from? He grew up listening to his dad play. His favorite song to play was 'Great Balls of Fire'. Hints, where Bradley got it from."
A look of understanding crossed Hangman's face.
"So is this baby Pops?" Hangman asked pointing to a photo in the corner.
"Yea, that's a baby Maverick." Bradley laughed.
"And that is a baby Bradley." Maverick pointed to several pictures.
"Guys! Look it's Admiral Kazansky!" Fanboy pointed to a photo of them in their formal uniforms.
Maverick stifled a laugh, they were pointing at what was one of their wedding photos.
"Hey look it's the same photo they have up in the halls at Top Gun!" Payback added.
"That was taken right after our first mission together as wingmen." Maverick explained.
"Can you- Umm..."
"Out with it Fanboy." Maverick rolled his eyes at the sudden timidness of the pilot.
"Can you tell us the story of that day, I mean rumors flew at the academy and flight training, but I'm sure it's changed over the years."
"How about this, you tell me what you've been told, and I'll tell you how close it is." Maverick agreed hesitantly. It wasn't his favorite story to tell, too many things associated with it. Too many close calls and too soon after a close call wasn't just close.
"The main version I've heard, is that you were pulled straight from Top Gun graduation for a mission and you two were like besties, and got sent off and face 5 MiGs at once and you took down 3 and chased the other 2 away."
"It's a close version, but not true. Iceman and I were rivals at Top Gun, and I was the spare for that mission." Maverick explained.
"Was Goose your RIO for that one?" Coyote asked, not realizing the timeline nor the weight of his words.
Maverick froze for a second, his breath leaving him, as Bradley looked down at the floor.
Hangman chose to answer for them thanks to his findings before the mission.
"No, I thought Goose died in a training accident at Top Gun."
"That, was the first mission I flew without Goose." Maverick explained, his voice coming out weaker than it had been.
The squads eyes went wide as they quickly found a new picture to ask about.
Bradley watched his god father closely, he knew no matter how long it had been, Goose's death was a touchy subject for him. It was for Bradley too, but not in the same way. He only remembered the man from stories, videos, and pictures.
They found a large group photo.
"Who are these guys Mav?" Halo asked.
"That, is the Top Gun class of '86. Well at least my class." Maverick explained.
"So do you still keep in contact with the admiral?" Payback asked pointing to the another picture of their wedding, this time of Ice and the Bradley's class of'86 uncles.
"I do, I had a phone call with him last night actually. That photo was actually taken at my wedding. I still keep in contact with most of the guys from my Top Gun class. We do little reunions every now and then." Maverick decided to reveal. It didn't give much away because they were both in uniform as well as there were a several pictures from that day of him with other people also in uniform.
"Wait, when do we get to meet them?" Yale asked.
"Meet who?" Maverick not sure if they meant Ice or the class of '86.
"Whoever you're married too!" Harvard answered.
"Oh, it will be a few days, he got called away to a conference. He has been waiting to meet you guys though."
Bob smirked from the back of the group.
"Hey who is this?" Phoenix asked pointing to another photo.
Quickly leading to story time for a series of other photos.

Dagger Group Chat
Fanboy We have new INFO!!! Mavericks HUSBAND is at a conference. Therefore we can knock out Penny and Hondo, because we saw Hondo earlier therefore not at a conference.
Phoenix So all we have left is We haven't met them, Cyclone, and Warlock.
Bob And Admiral Kazansky
Payback Sorry Bobby, but it's definitely not the Admiral, I mean we saw the photo earlier, taken at the wedding, not the groom. If he was married to the Admiral he just would have said that.
Bob I guess that makes sense, but I am standing by my bet
Halo Good, because bets are closed, no changing
Harvard We can also narrow it down if we find out if Cyclone or Warlock left for a conference. Seems like something they would do as the heads of Top Gun. If either are gone tomorrow, then we have our answer.
Hangman Or we establish we just don't know who they are because we have never met them. So if both are there tomorrow, then Phoenix and I win.
Yale Woah Woah Woah, Hangman, don't count your eggs before they've hatched. Your bet is that we don't know of them, we could know of them we just didn't bet on them. Therefore you would be wrong too.
Hangman Fine, we find out officially when we meet them, that work for everyone?
Phoenix As long as it ends with free round for me from everyone, then I don't care when.
Hangman Except me, I would get free rounds too!
Phoenix Yes Hangman, except you.
---
"Ice, you wouldn't believe it, they literally talked about one of our wedding photos and didn't catch on."
"The look on their faces is going to be priceless."
"Are you sure you can't hurry back from your conference?"
"I would if I could, I would do it even if we weren't waiting to do this reveal. I would do it just to come back to you."
"Aww, the ice cube is melting."
"Only for you."
"Sarcastic Iceman might actually kill them though, they still only know stoic Ice Cold Admiral Iceman."
"So, maybe I shouldn't meet them then, we will be down 10 of our best aviators." Ice jokes.
"I said might not would, plus you are a guardian angel you could bring them back to life."
"No I am your guardian angel, and occasionally Bradley's."
"You mean you don't want to do the paper work that would be involved."
"Maverick, I do my paperwork, but that doesn't mean I want extra."
"Fair point, if I didn't have to do my paperwork I never would."
"You do your paperwork last minute anyway!"
"Yea, but I still do it."
Ice glares at him thru the phone.
"I love you too," Maverick smirks. "But seriously, how much longer until you are back? Despite being Iceman you keep the bed very warm, and it is cold now."
"Your personal heater will be back in two days."
Maverick smiled.
---
.
.
.
I hope you guys are enjoying!! Fear not the reveal is coming!! Sorry that this one is a little shorter, they will probably average 2k to 4k in words. Depending on what's in each chapter. I have planned out a lot of what will be happening. Once the reveal occurs it will become more one shots taking place after this focusing on fewer daggers at a time.
If you have any requests or ideas for those one shots let me know! I have my own list but will happily add!
Also I need help picking Ships
Hangman and Rooster or Phoenix and Rooster? I like both, and both can work for this story, or I can leave them relationshipless for now.
Please comment! You guys don't understand the joy I feel when yall comment! Hop you enjoyed!

Hangman was always compared to Iceman while at Top Gun. He pulls of stunts with perfect precision. Gets along well with the upper brass. Natural leader during dire situations.
His instructors all agree that he'll go up the ranks.
Hangman, however, he wanted to be more like Maverick.
He wanted to be able to fly outside the box, push himself and the plane to it's limits.
Because when worst comes to worst, technical precision will not be enough. However, creativity? Especially finding creativity within a technical field requires a different kind of mastery.
Maybe if he tried had tried hard enough to develop that kind of mastery his wingman wouldn't have been shot down.
Mission was deemed a success, they concluded that he did not make any mistakes.
("You did everything you could, son," the admiral said setting the briefing papers aside. "Your actions were deemed the best course of events given the circumstances, you made no mistakes given the circumstances."
Only because none of us were able to think of a better alternative.
"Of course, sir." Hangman simply said.
No mistakes given the circumstances isn't enough. And it won't bring a dead man back to life.)
He tried to be better, but in the process made Hangman the name of someone untrustworthy, the name of the executioner.
(It's fine. When it matters, I'll be able to complete the mission and they'll be able to go home.)
---
Hangman wasn't chosen as Dagger 2. Maverick named him spare.
He didn't want to think about the implications of The Maverick not choosing him. Although, he doesn't blame him.
His job was straightforward, fly in fast, and provide air support. Cool. Precise. No mistakes.
Target locked. Fire.
---
He stepped forward to meet Admiral Kazansky.
"You disobeyed orders," the man said looking him up and down.
"Yes, sir."
"Do you regret it?"
"Not when it saved the lives of my team," Hangman said meeting his eyes. "We may all be rivals, but at the end of the day we all want everyone to come back alive."
Admiral Kazansky didn't respond, simply staring at Hangman, and Hangman didn't avert his gaze. The silence stretched until he could hear the static of electricity from the walls.
Admiral Kazansky chuckled as he shook his head, "You're just like Maverick." Kazansky looked the younger man in the eye, "you put your whole heart and soul in your flying."

Hangman, like Mav, was always sent on suicide missions. However, unlike Mav, Hangman didn't have a guardian angel like Iceman or the other Flyboys who would have his back after Top Gun. And unlike Mav who had the Flyboys, Carole, and Bradley, Hangman didn't have anyone to look forward to after his deployment. He had Javy, but Javy would move on.
It would be better if he was the one who died. No one would mourn him. No one would miss him.
That changed with the dagger squad
Hangman got sent on a last minute mission where the Dagger Squad, and even Iceman were not informed until he was already flying in the air.
Once Maverick and Iceman reviews the details of the mission, their blood went cold once they both realized that the mission was unnecessary reckless, and dangerous. It was bad enough to be considered a suicide mission.
But it was too late to call off the mission, it was all up to Jake and his team now.
Mav and Ice spend their days worrying, especially with Ice burying himself in paperwork trying to figure out how this flew under his radar. The Dagger Squad notice their tenseness, but they weren't told what was going on because Mav and Ice didn't want to worry them.
During the mission, Hangman broke several rules and direct orders to save his colleagues and by extension, his life, and he got a dressing down immediately after landing his jet. He wasn't brought to the sick bay, he was immediately brought to the office for an extensive debrief, where all of Hangman's actions were scrutinized and judged. Hangman stayed calm.
Maverick and Iceman arrive because they were keeping tabs and come in while Hangman was getting yelled at. Maverick looks at Jake, taking note of his disheveled looks and tense jaw, and how behind his steely gaze was an undercurrent of deep exhaustion. Iceman noticed how the commanders were reaming into Jake for every single, little, thing, when it was a miracle that there was no casualties on their side. Jake's actions saved the mission that was destined to fail, and saved the lives of the other aviators.
Maverick and Iceman loses their shit.
How dare they not care about their aviator? How dare they recklessly send them to unnecessary suicide missions? How dare they act pissed at the aviator that save the mission and their lives?
---
Mav felt a hand on his shoulder, stopping his tirade at the Admiral in front of him. He turned and his glare softened once he realized it was Jake, unsteady on his feet, but gently holding him back.
"What is it, buddy? You can sit down, you don't have to keep on standing," Mav fretted as he tried to get Jake to sit down on the chair.
"It's okay, pops," Jake said giving a small smile. "I was the best choice for the mission, especially missions like this, it's better that they send me, instead of someone that has a family."
"No." Iceman simply said. "Don't say shit like that Lieutenant Jacob Seresin."
"But it's true--"
"Enough, Jacob, it is not true, and we will be discussing this later," Ice sternly said as he turned back towards the admirals. "No one should have been sent to a mission without enough preparation and analysis, and you shitheads barely did any. You made my aviator fly, blind. Your careers are done for."
"Come on Jake, let's get you to the sick bay, let Ice take care of this, okay?" Mav said forcefully leading Jake out of the room to get the care he needs.
---
(Once Jake gets back stateside and the rest of the Dagger Squad finds out what happened, he gets showered by affection from all of them proving that he has been missed and he will be missed.)

Ice: Hey kiddo, breakfast is ready.
Baby Bradley: Thanks. Should I give the old bitch some, too? I think he's upstairs.
Ice: We've already talked about this. Slider called Mav that ONCE in the heat of an argument and you are NOT supposed to repeat it.
Ice: Also, yes.

Ice: OK Bradley, let's go through your homework. Which class first?
7 year old Bradley: Maths first, we're doing adding.
Ice, looking at the worksheet: Right. So if Mav has 16 cans of diet coke-
Bradley: Why does Mav have 16 cans of diet coke?
Mav, struggling to carry 16 cans of diet coke into the kitchen: None of your business, Baby Goose.

part 1/add on
Fic Idea
Goose finally gets Jake to more or less accept that he was always welcome in Goose's home, and they get closer, and start bonding more. Jake comes over so often that a lot of his stuff gets mixed in with Goose's and Bradley's belongings. Jake and Bradley start to get closer to, they still annoy the heck out of each other, but in a more playful manner.
However, Jake starts coming over less and less, and slowly stops replying to Goose's messages. Goose starts counting the days. 12 days since he last saw Jake. 9 days since the last call. 6 days since the last decent text conversation. 3 days since the last small talk text reply.
The only reason why he refrained from acting was because of Bradley who mentioned how there were admirals on base, and although everyone was on high alert and busy, Hangman was called on more than others. The admirals seem to highly value his opinion, and the only time he really sees the other man is during hops. Most of the time he sees Hangman speed walking to various meetings or working on multiple stacks of paperwork.
It worried Goose, but Jake was an adult, and work is important to him.
However, it was 3 days since the last small talk text exchange, and it's been 3 hours since he sent another text, which was seemed to be left unread.
It was supposed to be an off day today.
Jake, like many in the younger generation is very tech-savvy, and with promptness instilled by the military, usually replies very quickly.
Goose managed to cook a 3 course dinner and Jake still hasn't responded.
Goose decides, fuck it, and goes to visit the younger aviator's house and knocks on the door.
He hears a lot of concerning thuds and crashes before Jake opens the door. Hair messy, dark circles around his eyes, wearing thick clothes, and
"Goose-?" Jake croaked out in a scratchy voice.
“Come here, kiddo,” Goose said softly beckoning Jake to step closer and press his palm against his forehead, frowning at the warmth radiating off him. “You’re warm, buddy, how are you feeling?”
“Exhausted,” Jake croaked, shrugging as he shoved his hands in his pockets and looked down, swaying forward. Goose put a hand on the younger man’s shoulder to steady him, and tensed when Jake moved closer and rested his forehead on his shoulder.
Alarm bells were ringing in Goose’s mind as he instinctively wrapped an arm around him, and stroked a hand through his hair. He let them stand there for a bit as he felt Jake take deep and shaky breaths, while he rubbed circles on the boy’s back.
He squeezed the nape of the boy’s neck gently to bring him to attention, as he pressed his lips on the boy’s head, “Hey, son, why don’t we move to the couch, yeah?” Goose asked.
“Okay,” Jake mumbled, as he stood up, stepping back before Goose pulled him back to his side and guided him back inside to rest at the couch.
He managed to find out that Jake has been forced to overwork himself due to certain admirals who was holding the permanent status of the Dagger Squad against him to get him to do multiple tasks. He was doing way too much for one man. Overworked himself, until body just crashed on him. Jake felt horrible, everything felt heavy and achy, he couldn't breathe properly, and he was very much, exhausted.
Goose was angry for the boy, and begins to dote on him. Feed him, get him Gatorade, snacks, hugs, and manages to pack him a bag and before Jake realizes what was happening, he was bundled up in Goose's car to stay at the Bradshaw household to recuperate.
Goose brings Jake to the house with Bradley helping Jake into the guest room and arranged the pillows and blankets to be set around Jake like a hybrid of a nest or a cocoon. Goose comes back up with actual food on hand, and feeds Jake. Goose and Bradley basically take care of Jake the whole time. At one point, Bradley have to briefly carry the other man.
Goose also calls Mav and Iceman to tell them about Hangman and the admirals situation, and Ice said he'll deal with it, while both ask for updates about the young aviator.
Iceman and Maverick visit and they spoil Jake with treats.
They also give Jake the next few days off as a reminder to never overwork. Jake is "grounded".
"Grounded", meaning that he is not allowed to work.
He can play video games, use his phone, watch TV, but he's just not allowed to work.
Goose distracts him by spending time with the younger man. Jogging with him. Playing catch. Solving jigsaw puzzles. Diamond art. Comics. Movie marathon. And more.

Ice projects the room because, sometimes, he likes to watch up to the sky without having to actually going out. The floor is coverd by a tick soft carpent that calls for naps. More than once he dosed off and woke up the morning after with Maverick cuddling him and a blanket shilding both of them from the bad weather and the light coming from the glass roof.
After the mission it becomes the kids favourite place to hang out during the nights where they're all to tired. It's routine, this days: they all twelve come around for lunch or dinner, sometimes taking food with them and sometimes not, eat, clean the table and fhen disappear in the den. After a couple of hours, if they come over for dinner, they're already sleeping, cuddling in weird positions that makes Mav's back hurt, but always liked one to another by an arm, a leg o a foot on the stomach. After the first couple of times the older men started leaving blankets and pillows because they both know how cold it can get up there.
(Mav has photographic evidence of them cuddling all twelve together. And he has a backup of the photo and so does Ice and so does their entire '86 class because look! A puppy pile! wasn't something to lost.)

Pete and Tom are that type of embarrassing parents who go to pick up Bradley at school and Pete jumps to make himself noticeable and Tom spends half an hour more than most parents to speak with his teachers during parents-teachers meeting and he doesn't miss one of them.
Pete learns how to cook cupcakes just so he can take them for the after game and Tom makes them both a shirt with Bradley's number so everybody knows who's their kid his.
(And it get even worst when the Dagger Squad comes around. Because the embarrassing stuff multiply for twelve and does Admiral Kazansky really has a shirt with 00 and Dagger Squad stamped around it? Mav has one too.)

Top Gun "Cafe" AU (part 2)
part 1/part 2
"Thanks for letting me work here even though I know I suck at baking," Jake said evenly as he walked in the room.
Instead of wearing his usual attire of flannel and jeans, he was wearing a sleek black suit, tie perfectly knotted, everything fitting perfectly. From the tailored jacket to the shiny military grade combat boots.
Jake went to the other side of the room and opened up a briefcase, he briefly scanned the contents before giving a nod to Coyote in approval. He started assembling his guns and loading them.
"I'll deal with the mess that just happened, don't worry, it was my fault anyways they went after you, I did not tie up enough loose ends," Jake said muttering darkly as he harshly put his guns in their holsters.
"It wasn't your fault, Hangman, they would have made their move either way." Coyote said standing beside the man and handing him a folder.
"Nevertheless, they have been making their moves too hastily, the underground is restless, their moves are going to start an all out war, and although I do not mind a little mess, this would be getting too out of hand," Hangman said opening the file and scanning the contents before handing it back to Coyote.
He turned towards the stunned staff of the Top Gun Cafe. Bob's face was pinched, mouth opening and closing as if he did not know what to say. Phoenix's face was blank, brows furrowed. Mav's usually happy demeanor was gone, replaced by a frown, and a cold, calculating, glint in his eyes reminiscent of his husband's.
"I would say I was sorry for not telling you guys shit about me, but it's not like I knew about you either," Hangman said putting on his gloves.
Mav's eyebrow shot up, "You didn't know? You? The alleged, Hangman?"
Hangman shrugged, "What can I say Maverick? I was fully prepared for retirement, I was trying hard not to look. Also, I did not expect you guys to underestimate your own skills."
"We didn't expect the Hangman to be a blind idiot," Phoenix sharply cut through.
Hangman looked at her for a couple of seconds, eyes troubled as he seemed to be debating with himself whether or not to say what he wants to say before sighing and shaking his head.
"Well, that blind idiot won't be seen anymore," Hangman said walking away. "I'll keep you in the loop when I deal with them, I'll also send money for the damages. Have a great life, you guys," Hangman said flashing back a smirk as he gave one last jaunty wave, Coyote following half a step behind him.
---
It's been dealt with.
This was the message left behind on the cafe's counter one early morning, written on a receipt with an order for a hot chocolate with whip cream and rainbow sprinkles.
A couple hours after, news of the head of the organization's decapitation was buzzing around the underworld. The head was hanged up in the rafters of the organization's old hideout, body no where to be found. Whispers have been heard all around as everyone have been speculating on this style of assassination.
Hangman is back after a 8 month hiatus.
He wasn't dead, and he was back leading the game.
With vengeance.
---
Life was different at Top Flight Cafe. They weren't betrayed, per se, Jake didn't come in with any ulterior motive, heck, based on the evidence, he didn't even know they were part of the underground (even if it tickled the back of their mind that they should have told him, he managed to pull himself in the inner circle after all).
It made them uneasy that they unintentionally pulled Jake back to the life he decided to leave behind. No matter what he said that it was partly his faulty those armed group came, they didn't believe it.
The day after Jake left, Bob went inside the employee locker rooms, and he couldn't help but stop in his tracks when he saw Jake's cubby, open and empty, apron neatly folded, left behind.
He pointedly ignored it, as he stalked towards his locker right beside Jake's. He fiddled with the lock, and once he opened it, a piece of scotch-tape laminated paper fell out.
Jake
It had tiny planes decorated around it.
Bob couldn't help but smile as he kneeled down to take it, it was the locker name tag Bob made and decorated for him months ago.
He remembered the empty locker and he sighed as he stood up. He supposed Jake won't have a use for it now. He paused when he saw a familiar scrawl on the back of the paper.
Thanks, stay safe, Bobert.
Bob felt his throat clench as he involuntary crinkled the paper in his fist before taking a deep breathe and smoothening out.
He wondered if he acted better when the armed group came, would Jake have stayed?
He might never know, and all he could do was tape the piece of paper on the inside of his locker. The last piece he had of someone he would still call a friend.
---
A week after Jake left, Natasha burst inside the employee break room, ranting about how a customer kept on rudely changing their order, and how the ratio of chocolate sprinkles to whipped cream was wrong, or the temperature was apparently not perfect.
She turned her head to see what Jake thought, wanting to trade sarcastic remarks, when she met, empty air.
Her rant died on her lips when she realized that all that was left of Jake was an old computer chair he dragged from somewhere to sit in the corner of the room.
She pursed her lips. She didn't realize that ranting or talking to Jake during their breaks became such a habit that she didn't even bother scanning the room before she started going off.
It was quite a routine.
People in their business should be able to change their routine whenever they have to. Or else they die.
Phoenix stalked back out of the room, intending to simply have lunch out for once.
---
Bradley leaves the door to his office unlocked to make sure the other employees were always free to come in about anything and everything. Whether that means bothering him for markers, talking about business (or business), or even just to talk or hang out. It was a Saturday, one of the busier days due to everyone coming out for some sun. It wasn't all that busy for Bradley, all things considered, he was mostly holed up the whole day in his office dealing with beauracracy. He couldn't help but feel uneasy, though. The hair in the back of his neck was standing in anticipation, he couldn't help but keep looking up at the door. He shook his head as he kept on doing his paperwork, checking the clock every so often. (9:58, 11:25, 12:01, 13:17, 14:34, 16:00, 16:45, 17:59, 18:30, 19:00, 20:00) He probably refreshed his google calendar 100 times before confirming, that no, he did not have any meetings today.
The tightness he felt on his shoulders continued.
21:40, a knock on his door and Mav peeks in, "Hey kid, have you had dinner, yet?"
Oh.
He hasn't eaten all day.
"Not yet," Bradley said, voice slightly raspy from misuse.
He hasn't talked to anyone all day.
"Figured, Ice and I are ordering pizza, want to join us?"
"Sure, Mav," Rooster said, voice even, sighing when Mav left the room.
Jake was gone, and so were the random interuptions throughout the day, the breaks he didn't know he needed through interacting with the younger man, the breaks his stomach needed whenever the blonde would barge in and force Bradley (and everyone else) to try the new recipe Ice taught him how to make.
Rooster forced himself to believe that the hollow feeling in his chest was simply hunger from forgetting to eat.
---
Mav let the chocolate milk settle on the stove as he started making the team their drinks. Or at least, what he would assume would be their preferred drinks for the day.
Ice loved a good espresso, and so Mav took care of that first. Smirking as he made sure to use the man's favorite cup (Black, with the words '#1 Baker' on it that Mav gave him when they opened the shop). He'd need the caffeine with all the orders he would have to bake.
Bradley likes to take his time sipping on his coffee. Mav made him a standard Americano with condensed milk in it, making sure the milk was all the way stirred. His son had a sweet tooth.
Bob didn't consume as much caffeine as the other kids, preferring less or no caffeine unless necessary (he once saw the boy chug 3 Red Bulls during a particularly stressful situation--). He started on the batch of chai that he serves to the customers. He opened a new bag of Assam tea, and threw in some fresh spices. He was trying a new blend, it would be the special drink of the day. If it goes well. Bob would taste test.
Nat he made a standard Americano for. She likes putting all the fun stuff herself. Well, if she wanted too that day.
Mav poured the cooled down chocolate milk into two cups, adding a 2 shots of espresso in one of them. Adding whipped cream to both of them. He grinned as he grabbed the airplane-shaped-sprinkles from the shelf. They came yesterday, and Jake would lov-
Oh.
Right.
Mav's lips tugged down to a frown, as he looked down at the sprinkles.
Jake betrayed them, yet for some reason...
It wasn't really betrayal, was it?
Hangman wasn't in the business anymore, so he didn't have a reason to tell them. If it was anyone, it would be the cafe who betrayed Jake, they should have told him. Them not telling him made Jake an unknowing accomplice to their crimes. Them not telling Jake, was potentially the reason Hangman was back in the world he left behind.
Mav sighed as he looked upwards. He sprinkled the sprinkles on both drinks. Leaving the other drinks in the break room for the others to get them when they arrive. He grabbed both hot chocolates as he went for a walk to the nearby park. It was still early.
He sipped on his drink as he walked, a contemplative look on his face.
He stopped by the table with the embedded chess board he and Jake used to play in. Kid was a good opponent. He smiled when he remembered the boy rejoicing when he beat him the first time, pumping his fists in the air grinning wildly. When they went back to the cafe, he was bragging about it to everyone, hair wild with the wind, as he crowed about his victory.
That same kid was Hangman.
Hangman who singlehandedly eliminated problematic groups from the underworld.
Who was said to be skilled in every weapon.
Who started and led his own group a couple years back, cementing themselves as a prominent group in America. Jesus-- How old was the kid when he started in the underworld?
He sighs as he put down Jake's drink on the table, it was probably lukewarm by now, exactly how Jake would have liked it.
He left it there as he went back to the cafe.
---
Iceman felt nothing from the events that happened. He wasn't even there when it happened.
He just came back from his trip to find the whole team in his office, a hard expression on their faces.
Jake was nowhere in sight,
Another man gone. They analyze the situation. No problem. They move on.
Hangman would not be a problem. Iceman had more experience and connections than him.
They move on.
When Ice clears the counters to bake, he unintentionally preps the table for two bakers instead of one. Even on the days where he knows he's supposed to bake alone, now.
He saves an overly-sweet pastry recipe he found on that TikTok application from his phone. It would be a sweet treat and decent breakfast, he could even put some protein powder to make it more nutritious.
He takes the trays of pastries, a name dying on his lips. He used to always ask Jake to take the pastries to the front, also so that the boy would be able to have a quick snack. He sighed, before bringing the tray to the front himself.
He clenched his jaw. Another man he wasn't able to say goodbye too. He was just gone.
---
Hangman sighed as he holstered his guns and leaned back on the wall, tilting his head upwards to the glass ceiling. The moon shining a bright yellow in the dark sky.
Another mission accomplished.
It was a simple takedown mission, one he chose to do alone to blow off some steam. Targets are all eliminated. Data already retrieved. Nothing left in the building but him and the ghosts he just made.
He close his eyes, listening to the dripping of the pipes, when he heard steady footsteps.
His eyes shot open as he whipped out his gun and dashed behind a pillar. Lightly peering behind it as a familiar man stepped out.
He knew Ice, but this was the Iceman.
In a crisp light grey suit, dress shoes, and a blue tie, instead of sweater, jeans, and an apron.
"Quite a mess you've made, Hangman," Iceman's voice rasped out.
Jake decided to stand before the man. He found it amusing that they both had a penchant for wearing suits while doing this job, his was just black.
"Well, you didn't really give me some time to clean it up before ya came," Hangman drawled. "Gotta say, though, impressive outfit, never met this one before."
Iceman rolled his eyes, "Cut the shit, Jake, just because we currently do different jobs doesn't mean we completely change personalities."
"Yeah, you're still a hard-ass no matter what job you do," Hangman said, switching off his gun's safety. "Whattya doing here, pops?" Hangman asked, internally wincing at the way too familiar address.
"Nothing, just checking in," Iceman said shrugging as he nudged a dead body out of the way to pull a chair out and sit down. "So, how are you, Jacob?"
Jake blinked, once, twice, "That's all you have to say? We haven't seen each other since you left for you trip, you come here in mob-boss style clothes, and that's--"
"Well, I was also going to ask if you still want to learn how to make bialys, I did say we would make it once I came back," Ice shrugged.
Jake paused.
Well, he was hungry.
"That's it? No motive? You come here, and that's it-?" Jake asked bewildered.
"Well, I was here to take down this group as well, but you seem to have it handled," Ice said before meeting Jake's eyes with an intense stare. "You came into my shop and worked hard with no ulterior motive, what happened with the armed group was not your fault. You are always welcome there, son."
Jake let his gun hang limply to the side.
"How do I know you're not lying?"
"Because I won't hide the truth from now on, I don't need too. Hangman doesn't have to be part of Top Gun, Jake, but you? You're always welcome to the cafe. They won't admit it, but the team misses you." Ice said, groaning as he stood up.
"But you decided to talk to me, not them, don't bullshit me, Ice, you knew I was going to be here," Jake's face broke out into a shit-eating grin, "You do miss me."
Ice snorted as he walked towards the younger man, "Yeah, I did, kid, now come on, the dough won't rise by themselves." Ice said slinging an arm around the boy and pulled him in to a side hug.
Jake relaxed in the older man's hold, letting his head rest under the man's chin.
Maybe he hasn't lost everything after all.
"Although, we have to get those cuts, treated, son, you were sloppy today, and I do not want blood on my dough," Ice said thumbing away some blood off his cheek.
Jake shrugged, "Was a bit distracted."
Ice hummed, "Let's get Mav to make us some coffee before we start then," Ice said leading the boy outside.

Top Gun Medieval Fantasy AU Idea
IceMav operating an adventure guild/inn/tavern. Iceman is the head of the guild and Maverick is his right-hand man. Ice and Mav co-own the establishment. Most people don't know this, they just assume that Mav is pretty high up, because he's one of the top adventurers, and when he's not out and about, he trains or guides the newer adventurers (Mav does the dirty work Ice can't visibly do).
Potential additional idea: Iceman and Maverick used to knights, but stop and established a guild.
Rooster is a traveling warrior, but he is not part of the guild. He goes their only when it is necessary for a job, but he doesn't linger or stay. Bradley wanted to be a knight, but Mav used his connections to block his application to the academy. Bradley found out and left, cutting contact and went to find his way. Bradley was bitter, thinking, it all makes sense. Why Mav was reluctant in training him, only got involved in his training when he was older, and why it was mostly Ice who taught him. Mav never thought he could do it, he never had faith in his abilities. (Goose was Mav's partner and died in one of their adventures. Mav couldn't bear the thought that if he taught Bradley, and Bradley died, it would be because of the skills he passed down to him. Because Mav's skills at the time wasn't enough to save Goose, so it is not good enough for Bradley. Also Carole made Mav promise before she died.) On a side note, during his travels, Rooster picked up playing different instruments and is quite good at it. He's trying to remember the song his dad used to play him, but it's been so long that he can only really play the tune of the chorus. The lines lost in time (part of Rooster wants to ask Ice or Mav, but his pride won't allow him to). On the bright side, Rooster displays himself as a bard, allowing him to gather money and information easily as no one is suspicious of him. At least until he draws his hidden sword.
Hangman was raised to be a knight, he was taken in as a ward of a Knight's order, went through the academy, and was knighted young. He was well-known and people admired him. However, one day he and his partner were dispatched far to deal with a horde of demons. He and his partner figured out that there was corruption in the order that spread to the town folk, allowing for exploitation, which grew to warriors being hired despite barely having any fighting experience. The problem grew, until the town was overwhelmed by monsters every night. In the final battle, his partner died. When Hangman went to report what happened, the order decided to push the incident 'under the rug', with his partner's death being declared as an 'accident'. The order's reputation was far more important than the life of one man. Hangman was pissed and left the order, swearing revenge (and succeeding). Hangman still keeps the sword he used as a knight, but he never unsheathes it. Instead he transitioned to dual wielding two short swords. Hangman works alone, travelling and doing mercenary work. He doesn't care about anything else, but results. No one knows that Hangman used to be a knight.
Javy is from a blacksmith clan, realized that blacksmithing wasn't for him and decided to go on a journey. Found this creature, nursed it to help, and now follows him around. Someone eventually suggested that he use the creature as a mount. He did and he fell in love with it. He became well-trained in fighting while on his mount. Easily maneuvering any weapon while the mount charges. Coming from a family of blacksmiths, he understood how to use most weapons and that came handy in times of improvisation.
He became friends with Jake when they were travelling. They were forced to share a room together in an inn rather than camp outside and they got to know one another (Jake was sharpening his sword, Javy told him he was doing it wrong, they bickered, Javy impressed Jake and wrangled a thank you out of him). They keep on meeting each other throughout the next year or so, Jake even allowing Javy to work with him occasionally. After more than a year, Jake told Javy everything, Javy was heartbroken for his friend.
I have more thoughts about this AU, but maybe I'll write them down sometime else.
