i gotta say, there’s something about getting to hear the demos from musicals sung by the songwriters that just get me. the “i don’t care much (demo)” from cabaret? the “unusual way” demo from nine? the “it’s all in here” bonus track from a chorus line? just to name a few! its a whole other level of musical intimacy. to hear it how it was originally heard in the songwriters brain, and in their voice? god. i will always love hearing cast recordings, but it’s always super special getting to hear the songwriter doing it too.

As some of you may know, Art Seen Films is doing theatrical screenings of a Korean production of Yeston & Kopit's Phantom musical starring Kyuhyun.

They have a survey going which asks about interest in a streaming & blu-ray release. They also ask if anyone is interested in having another musical called Werther featuring Kyuhyun.

So whether you're interested in Phantom or only a fan of Korean theatre/culture in general please fill it out.

I don't often make actual posts on Tumblr but this is a PSA: If you have the chance to see the South Korean production of Maury Yeston's Phantom starring Kyuhyun from Super Junior as the Phantom, DO IT. It was amazing. He was incredible. From a theatre perspective, it was a stunning production with spot on comedy, breathtaking costumes, and an unbelievable amount of talent. From a Kyuhyun fan perspective, I just...........yeah. watch it.

I saw the Phantom of the Opera in an actual theatre last night! Well, not actually Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Loyd Webber, but Phantom by Maury Yeston. Personally, I thought it was very good! Not on the same level as ALW, but I still really enjoyed it. The performances were great, the music was memorable, I just really enjoyed myself. But, being 17, I think I was the youngest person there lol. Like, I saw old people everywhere and only a few young to middle aged people. It was fun though. I'll definitely try to see more play's and musicals in the future

Hey guys! Been a while. Some updates.

So if you were unaware, the YouTube channel was nuked due to the copyright holders of the Japanese cast albums cracking down and hitting me with several strikes. I remade it as Phantom Retrospective 2.0, please subscribe if you have not already. I recently attended a cinema screening for that Korean Yeston & Kopit pro-shot and it was incredibly so I'm really in a Phantom mood again and will steadily be rebuilding things in the coming weeks. I have now also created a Phantom Retrospective Asia channel for all Asian Phantom content, just incase it happens again I don't lose everything. For unrelated reasons I won't be getting into, my old Discord account was disabled and the old Phantom Retrospective discord was made read-only by my moderators as it no longer has an owner.
