Do you ever just randomly think about how at 18, Mary ran away chasing her own happiness by leaving her home and family (and their expectations) with the love of her life (as was her right)?
But at the same age, Kate was suppressing her grief at losing her father because Mary was too lost in hers, and was stepping up to become a parent to Edwina (and somewhat of a guardian to Mary) when she was still a child herself, as well as trying to make sure that she and her family didn’t end up poverty-stricken and destitute? That Kate suppressed and forewent going after anything that she might have wanted to make sure that Edwina (and Mary) had a decent and comfortable future where they didn’t have to toil and struggle.
And that even after all that, Mary had the audacity to say the words “I forgive you” to Kate? Because with respect, forgive Kate for what? Yeah Kate made some mistakes, but she’s also the reason the Sharmas survived that long, relatively comfortably (seeing as Edwina had no idea that they were struggling financially). Kate who warned Mary (and Edwina and Lady D) about Anthony in the first place but they chose not to listen.
Mary who never really paid any proper attention to Kate, who had no fucking idea that Kate was struggling; Mary who leaned on Kate and sought comfort from her, but had no clue her daughter felt unworthy and lonely and thought it was better for her family if she removed herself once they were settled, as opposed to “wanting her independence”.
Mary who had no idea about her daughter’s dowry or what they (and Mary) would do once Edwina was proposed to/married, only to feel ‘betrayed’ by Kate because she did what she thought was best (when she was 18 and her father had just died) when Mary hadn’t even given it a second thought.
Mary who heard a man refer to her daughter as “a thorn” and said nothing? Mary who instead of going to find the daughter she threw out of the room to see how she was went for a fucking walk. Mary who admitted her mistakes to the man who caused pain and strife to her family before her own daughter (a man her daughter was right about).
Mary who let her daughter who was still a child be burdened with ensuring the survival of their family? Who let said daughter extinguish any hopes and wants for herself without any sort of protest? That Mary having to forgive Kate for something? Mary who is supposed to be Kate’s mother? That Mary having to forgive Kate for something? The lack of self awareness is staggering. Fuck all the way off.

Mary: If I got my daughter a wealthy man
Portia: She wouldn't have to work or worry at all
Mary; She could fool around and enjoy the balls
Violet: *realizes she birthed a surplus of those and took a liking to said daughters* Money, money, money
Portia and Mary: Must be funny, in the rich man's world

What Bridgerton Season 3 should have been:
Two major couples (Francesca/John Sterling, Edwina/Friedrich)
Eloise and Marina becoming friends
More backstory/flashbacks on the Sharmas (Mary, Kate’s parents)
Plenty of Kathony moments
Funny moments between Newton the Corgi and Anthony
Penelope as the villain the show has made her out to be

I've been on a Bridgertons crave as of late, specifically in regards to the Sharmas, and it's making me want to write many fics as well. This one, I'm in debate of whether to continue or not, is a story that follows young Mary and her time not only during the season after being declared the Diamond, but also her meeting the love of her life (I call him Edwin). I'm nervous, as I've never written anything on here before 😭.
Tumblr media
It had seemed like a lifetime ago had passed before her eyes, all in an instant when a hush fell over the crowd as the queen made her way forward. Brown eyes of Queen Charlotte, collected and poise as any young woman of her stature would be, pinned there gaze on the sole child, the sole daughter of the Sheffields, and proclaimed the title that would carry on for the rest of Mary's life (whether she knew it or not). The Diamond of the Ton. By the time Mary had come back to her senses, she was already enveloped in a wave of voices and jeers, congratulations and jealous sprouts, all nearly drowned out by mother's disposition.
It wasn't that her mother, Lady Sheffield, had ever been unkind to Mary. She was simply a mother who wanted the best for her daughter, Mary often reminded herself (even on days where the words seemed to hold no meaning). But Mary had often noted, to herself of course, that her mother, both of her parents really, had only shown true excitement, true happiness for their daughter when it brought them the attention of high society. Her mother's smile was blinding as she pulled her towards her father, Lord Sheffield, who stood conversing with another gentleman. He's handsome with a kind disposition, a gentle smile pulling on to his face when they are introduced. He is an Earl, but through the haze and fast paced movements around her, Mary cannot seem to focus on anything else.
The more she tries to speak, the more her parents intervene with overly boastful tones and tales that place her on a pedestal more than provide any influential pieces to who she is. Mary is thankful when her parents and the Earl are swept away as she quickly maneuvers to the sidelines. A part of her hoped to find Agatha, Lady Danbury, in a corner of the room but as she feels the gaze of other men interested in her favor or ladies seeking to be in her good graces, her heart beats so loudly that Mary fears it may break free from her chest.
The cool air from outside was welcomed greatly as Mary moved behind a column in hopes of hiding her presence. Her mother would surely have choice words to say if she were spotted here, especially unattended, but Mary could not stand in that room any longer. A small bed of doubt had begun to creep into her mind, holding sentiments of dread when thinking back to the title of the Diamond. Was it really worth it?
"Of course it is," she whispered harshly to herself, briefly looking over her shoulder in hopes of not drawing attention from any passersby. "Any young lady would kill to be in your shoes. Being the Diamond of the season is a gift that should not be questioned."
"That could be debated." A voice spoke through the darkness and Mary let out a startled cry, hand hovering over her chest in alarm. A man stood a few feet away, wearing an apologetic smile when he took note of Mary's tense stance. He had brown olive skin and black curls that hung slightly over his hairline. "My apologies, I did not mean to scare you."
Mary breathed deeply, willing her heart to return to a normal beat as she glanced back at the man. "It is quite alright. I fear the only thing that shall scare me is how much you may have heard."
The man smiled. "If I told you I heard nothing, would that ease your woes?" Upon the unimpressed look he received in response he continued. "All right then. How about this: I may have heard your conversation, but I do not plan on placing any childish remarks in response. Rather, perhaps I can offer you some advice, if that will be accepted."
"Advice?" Mary repeated, studying him cautiously. "You hardly know me, why interrupt whatever endeavors you may have to provide me guidance?"
"Because, and I hope that I do not come off too forward, it seems like being recognized as the Queen's Diamond may have been overwhelming for you. Not that you don't hide it well, but everyone needs a break from time to time from society." He gestured to himself. "Trust me, I would know. The more I come back here, the more I long to return home to India."
This brought a smile to Mary's face. "You have traveled a long way. I've heard tales, and it truly sounds like a wonderful place."
"It is," he bowed his head respectfully before continuing. "Forgive me, it seems as though I have forgotten to introduce myself. Miles Sharma, at your service."
Mary giggled softly, feeling a soft burn forming across the apples of her cheeks. "Do not be to hard on yourself, as I have forgotten myself too. Mary Sheffield, sir." Her mind traveled back to Miles's previous statement. "You don't believe it is unfitting of a young lady to question being the diamond of the season?"
Miles grunted softly. "Believe me when I say, Miss Sheffield, that I hold no obligation when it comes to presuming what a lady should and should not do." This received a look of awe from young Mary. "All that I will offer, however, is that it is perfectly normal to hold doubts during moments of anxiousness. I've had my fair share. Doesn't mean we aren't thankful for them, for they granted us."
"Some would kill to be in my place."
"That is true." Miles hummed in agreement. "But that does not also mean that some wouldn't do anything to be far from your position as possible. And, even so, it is human nature to have doubts. It only matters how we choose to bare them. Will you let them weigh you down, or will you conquer them, Miss Sheffield?"
Mary blinked in consideration, his words swirling in her mind and consuming her doubts with it. He must be some magic man, she had thought, because just by standing before him Mary had felt like she was an open book. And that didn't scare her. Finally, after a moment, she said. "Please, call me Mary." Perhaps that is not what she had wanted to say intentionally, but was pleased with it nonetheless as Miles Sharma smiled at her sweetly.
"Then, please, call me Miles."
(Thank you @minim236 for informing me about Kate's and Edwina's father's name as, for the longest, I really thought it was Edwin 😭)

The clapping that follows provides the perfect smokescreen to make your exit. As you once again reach the corridor you continue to the kitchen to find the staff scrambling. You grab an apple before returning out into the hall. Kate stands a few feet back as William stands against the wall parallel to the kitchen. You frown at your sister's presence before it all clicks.
“No. Not now,” You say, rushing down the hall a sigh leaves you as William and Kate follow. Kate hangs back keeping the two of you in view but not close enough to be intrusive.
“Wait, wait, wait. (Y/n) talk to me?” William says, grabbing your gently he pulls you off to the side. He frowns as you avoid looking at him, “Have I done something to offend you?”
“No I—William I cannot do this,” You try to blink away the burning sensation in your eyes. Kate keeps her gaze off the two of you as she silently listens in.
“Why don’t we get some air okay, yeah?” William says, nodding your head you allow him to escort you outside to the front of Danbury House. Kate lingers in the doorway as the two of you take a seat on the steps. The silence that follows eases the thick fog that clouds your nerves. You feel when William’s gaze moves from the distance onto your blank exterior.

I love this sc so much, because it so perfectly represent the Sharmas/ Sheffields.
Kate is leading them, she is also like their shield, by the way she is standing in front of them. Kate also has the darkest color, proving the exact same idea. However, the color of her dresses has lightened SO MUCH, which represents that she has fallen in love with Anthony. But still she is still wearing the darkest color out of the three, which shows that no matter what she will always protect her family.
Also Kate’s dress’ color is in the same color family as Lady Mary’s and completely different from Edwina’s, which represents how she has assumed the role of a mother. Also Lady Mary’s gloves are the darkest in color, out of all the gloves, which shows that despite all she’s still the one with the most experience in life. Kate’s is lighter, as she’s still young. And Edwina's gloves are pearl white, which shows that she’s yet to grow as a person, and gain experience.

The way grief hit Lady Violet and Lady Mary so hard that these women, who were raised in a society in which you keep a stiff upper lip and carry on, stopped them from functioning. Like, those flashbacks where Violet is clearly suffering from depression, post partum depression is heartbreaking. It's implied that Mary went through something similar when Mr Sharma died and the pain, the heartbreak where they would rather die than carry on.

Apart from Kate and Anthony who's your favorite character?? 🤩
Tumblr media
Ohh that's a though one - I can't choose just one!
Mary Sheffield/Sharma - loved loved loved her relationship with Kate in the books, it was incredibly sweet and loving and the show did her so dirty by not making her more relevant! I wanted more Kate and Mary!
Francesca Bridgerton - the most mysterious Bridgerton sibling, her book is my second favourite (after TVWLM, of course) and I love how different her story is from the rest (still think we should have seen a cameo by at least Anthony in her book, but oh well). Curious to see her in s3 (one of the only reasons I am watching, bet you all can guess what's the other one - married Anthony of course)
Michael Stirling - my second favourite hero after Anthony! Also it's Michael do I have to say more? I absolutely adore him!
Also, props to Hyacinth Bridgerton, little Italian translator, detective looking for diamonds and menace to society
thanks to @kateandanthonyaremyparents and @viscountesseviefor this iniciative!

I just know that in the Isekai Portia au, Mary taught Portia how to wield the shoe for naughty children. None of the children in the house were safe. One of the mamas was gonna get ya.
The girls would later learn how to wield the shoe if they needed to get some unruly suitor in line. The boys would borrow the girls' shoes if some gentleman was acting ungentlemanly in the club.
Portia and Mary have both threatened Jack Featherington with the shoe. Portia has also threatened Violet with the shoe. Violet was a little turned on by it.

Bridgerton AU 02x08 onwards: Part 3
~Edwina~
Tumblr media
Edwina was fascinated.
She knew she should be worrying about Kate but she had already cried herself dry an hour ago, obsessing about the fact that her last words to her sister would be cruel and bitter, despite blaming Kate for being so, and had instead solidified her own shallow character.
Sweet, sacrificing, strong Kate.
Always there with her firm beautiful shoulders for her sister to cry on, for her step mother to abandon all worldly worries on, for Edwina to so easily burden with her own future, in her stupid childish ways and her convenience to never look too closely lest she see the actual strain of their actions.
Her slender hands – she realized suddenly that she had never told Kate how beautiful her hands were and how much she admired them. She hadn’t even told her sister that she loved her still and always would, despite everything that had happened between them, despite her immature and petty anger towards what she now knew was actually herself.
Edwina had been recently forced to realize that her obsessive and entirely too-focused tendencies that she had utilized once to perfect dances and instruments and languages, rather unfortunately applied to societal achievements as well.
It was the reason she had stupidly – blindly – pursued Lord Bridgerton as The Viscount, for a proposal of marriage. Only when he had stood in front of her on her wedding day and declared that he had gone through this whole farce with the belief that they shared their roles, their places in the world, had she realized how true it was and how much she herself was to blame for her ineptitude at not seeing the brewing tensions between her beloved older sister and her intended.
She had been so single-minded and focused towards bringing her visualized future into existence that she had quite foolishly taken leave of actual reality and the real version of the people that inhabited it, as opposed to the version in her vacuous future.
It had utterly destroyed her faith in her own wits for a considerable amount of time, once she had learned that almost everyone, seemingly including oblivious Newton of all creatures, had sensed the growing feelings between Kate and Anthony.
Anthony.
Lord Bridgerton’s behavior this evening was something that had been making her feel even more dim-witted and she had latched on to observing him to keep her thoughts firmly away from Kate lying unconscious in her bed and, frankly, to scab again at the wound of her failure as anything resembling a loving sister. She was utilizing her uncommon ability to ignore all intrusive thoughts and stifling feelings about her sister, savagely cutting off anything resembling an emotion to the analytical cold of logical observation aimed at the usually imposing figure of the Viscount.
This was particularly vicious of her tonight as it was plainly obvious to anyone who looked in the periphery of the man that he was rather pathetically attached to her sister and even more obvious to Edwina herself, she thought, in an unrelenting furious stab of self-hate, that he had so much in common with Kate that they may as well be mirrors of each other, which made it even more ludicrous of her to not recognize in hindsight.
One such tiny quirk the Viscount clearly shared with her sister was his inability to stay still. He had been vibrating with the same nervous, restless energy that possessed Kate and that, she was sure, the other occupants of the room found just as distracting as she did. But perhaps owing to way he had reacted to the single failed attempt at conversation from Lady Danbury, no one in the room had the heart to admonish him for it anymore.
“Lord Bridgerton, would you be so kind as to enlighten us to the source of your knowledge of Miss Sharma’s whereabouts this morning?”
Lady Danbury had asked in what she recognized as her kindest voice but even she could not keep the thinly pointed accusation from coloring her tone. The Viscount had look up with such a broken and naked expression, something so lost about him – that the Lady had to repeat her question. And then his face had transformed into something Edwina couldn’t quite place. Guilty – maybe a bit apprehensive even?
“Yes, how did you find her brother?” Benedict Bridgerton added with a frown and Lady Danbury stood from her place to walk to the Viscount’s side, “I know of her morning rides, My Lord, you need not worry about betraying her confidence and neither shall anyone in this room, as you can be sure.”
He had looked directly at her then and she had had to immediately looked away, blushing, embarrassed at herself and even more deeply shameful of her behavior than she had been moments ago. He and Kate wore disappointment awfully similarly too.
“Very well.” He intoned, voice so hollow that she had trouble believing he had spoken the words, his eyes fixed on the intricate pink wallpaper below the window as he continued, almost muttering, “It will not matter anyway, if she does not –”
She had clutched her dress tightly as he had cut himself off with a strange noise and Mary made a sudden motion beside her but she could not, for the life of her, take her eyes off him.
“Very well,” He said again, voice devoid of emotion – of anything, really – and still staring resolutely at the wall, “I made Miss Sharma’s acquaintance well before we were formally introduced at any ball. I came across her during my morning ride and assumed she was in trouble when she was not. I guided her towards Mayfair and she refused to give me her name. That is why I guessed at the path she would have taken this morning and how I was able to – I found her – I – just as – when her horse – ”
He had exhaled noisily then and covered his face as his brother grasped his shoulder, firmly comforting in a way only men could be to each other. He had breathed for a minute or so and then resumed his deadened staring, falling silent, often bouncing on his feet, pulling out his watch to check for the time about twenty-nine times in the last quarter of an hour, fiddling with the chain of the pocket watch, distractedly running his hands through his hair every few minutes, dispersed with odd bouts of pacing the length of drawing room, somehow managing to avoid everyone’s eyes through it all.
She had also noted that he had these odd bursts of – well, she couldn’t call it anything other than a strange difficulty breathing. His face would crumple slowly and then his chest would stop moving entirely for a few seconds and he would close his eyes, likely trying to ground himself by tightening his fingers around themselves. And then he would gasp almost silently and grit his teeth and force his breaths out while staring at something outside the window.
It was all rather fascinating.
