Oo, whats the new au about?
OK OK SO. adam and jonah’s parents are sending them to this. overnight camp for three months called mandela overnight (well, adams dad is sending since his mom is. yk).
theyre both really into ghost stories and stuff, so when they hear this rumor about the spirit of the past owner of the camp haunting the campgrounds they jump on it and shenanigans ensues (spoiler alert, its not a ghost. hehehe)
now with the characters:
Adam: troublemaker of the campground. hes a little bit of an asshole, with his investigations getting in everyone’s way. he might be on to something though, and someone doesn’t like that
Jonah: he’s kinda like the class clown. he doesnt take ghosts and the paranormal as seriously as adam does, so he’s mostly just goofing off and mostly the one doing the pranks. he’s also really into arts and crafts
Evelin: they’re (kind of) an apprentice to one of the counselors, Dave. she’s really good with tech, but mainly making random gadgets on the go. she always looks like shes been shocked.
Sarah: one of the older campers. she’s in charge of the main trio (who all sleep in the same cabin) and she has. many weapons in her bag that she snuck in. there wasnt that much sneaking in she needed to do, but its weird there were absolutely no mirrors allowed. like theyre trying to hide something
Cesar: he’s a C.I.T. (counseler in training) and he is. very chaotic. does not check any camper’s bag, ever, and is very lax with the rules. this will have consequences
Mark (yes i didnt kill him for once): also a C.I.T., and he’s tried to dissuade sarahs many attempts to sneak weapons in. he wont tell gabriel though, she’s still his sister.
Dave: a camp counseler, he’s in charge of the radio and he teaches campers how to make little robots with a toothbrush and a motor. Evelin’s a returning camper who he (unofficially) made in charge of most of the tech-related activities at the camp
Ruth: another camp counseler, she’s in charge of arts and crafts, and she has a daughter in another section of the camp for the younger kids
Thatcher: also a camp counseler, in charge of generally supervising the kids. he always has dark rings under his eyes and no one knows why he still works here
Gabriel: The owner of the camp. rumors have gone around his brother (the past owner of the camp) didn’t actually give up the camp and gabriel did something to him. this is untrue, and spreading rumors about people is rude :)

Man, look at these dudes- The volume. 1 dudes!!-
Yes, I'm still alive. I promise I'm not dead trust me guys please- ahfshagfgsa,, Been wanting to draw some proper ref. sheets of the boys for a while. These are the designs for any AU related content soooo get used to it hehe~
================================================
Biographies (long read):
((If it wasn't obvious, everything you're reading below is all made up stuff for my AU. Fanon junk basically.))
-General Info-
Full Name: Mark Heathcliff
Age: 18
Height: 6'0'' ft
Gender: Male
Sex: Male
Species: Human
Homeplace: Mandela County, Wisconsin (US)
Romantic/Sexual Orientation: Greyromantic asexual
-Other Info-
Personality?: Seemingly a nonchalant type of guy, just living his life and avoiding to attract attention. Often feeling like he doesn't fit in with society or any kind of community. He's not much for showing strong emotions, not near random people at least. Typical for him to carry around an "I don't care" attitude and crack jokes during bad times, but it all serves as a means of protecting himself. Being more than aware that showing his vulnerable side to the wrong people, can possibly be used back against him. The calm exterior hides an emotionally struggling artist, who's suffered through past childhood abuse from his mother. Sometimes that pain rises to the surface and accidentally shows up through unexpected mood swings or defensive outbursts. However, Mark knows well how badly he manages his own negative emotions. This kind of heated temper only shows up when heavily provoked or felt like he's backed into a corner. He might seem like a loner, yet in actuality, he's got a few close select people they care about a lot. And, depends on, more than he'd like to admit. But solely because of that, he shows a strong willingness to go far to protect them. Even if it somehow risks his own well-being. Seen in these instances, his more assertive and bold-self comes out.
Thinks Before Acting?: It's mixed with him, either does or doesn't depending on the situation. Typically, he'll try thinking over his actions and words. Especially when he can sense a bad outcome. Though, he's far from being the most calculated guy.
Positive Traits?: Mellow, modest, imaginative, soft-hearted, protective and audacious.
Negative Traits?: Reserved, insecure, confrontational, defensive, self-destructive and resentful.
Way Of Speaking?: Can talk in two languages, the main one is American English. Has knowledge in speaking Spanish, but it's kinda subpar. Remembers mostly from the lessons he had in school. On the odd occasion only uses it around Cesar, who encourages him to improve. His voice is generally calm and soft, with no particular accent. At times, loves using a mocking or sarcastic tone. (Headcanon voice: https://youtu.be/2rHRztFGOm8?t=1)
Occupation?: Works as a stock clerk at a furniture store. Assists with unpacking delivered items, organizing the stockroom, inspecting inventory and so forth. Also, he takes overnight shifts when possible for extra cash. Of course, the entire job itself is for financial stability. Otherwise, he cares little about it. Had hoped to get into some kind of art career instead, possibly becoming a cartoonist. Sadly, he's never gotten such an opportunity as he grew up. Didn't help that he lacked complete confidence, and still does to this day. So it all remains but a little fantasy he thinks about.
Powers/Skills?: Mark being human, don't expect supernatural abilities like how alternates have. However, in his very rare case, having an alternate for a parent did unexpectedly help improve him physically, and made able to defend himself. At a younger age of sixteen, he was gifted his first weapon which was a pistol Glock 19. With help from his father, he trained in remote areas. Shooting useless items that were used as targets. Now, he's well-practiced enough in using it properly, discreetly carrying it when out at nighttime. Of course, not limited to just a pistol. He's also got a metal bat safely tucked away in his bedroom. But for as long as he's known, anything can be a weapon. In a fight, he'll manage some inventive ways to beat someone up. Not exactly a person with a strong-build, yet he makes up for endurance. Fairly fast when running, most likely to outrun anyone. The type of guy to pick his fights. Besides all that, survival skills. Learned a few tricks throughout all the times he's gone out camping. Particularly good at starting a fire. Maybe a little too good.
Hobbies?: Main hobby is drawing, pretty much remained so since he was a kid. His art style is very stylized, expressive and exaggerated. Taken inspiration from his favorite animated shows and movies. He'll usually use a regular sketchbook with a pencil and pen to draw. But he dabbles in other unique methods like graffiti, and pastel art. A more recent past time is using a camcorder. What he chooses to record is random. Can either be a quick recording of his cat, or footage of activities and ramblings. For whatever reason he just finds it relaxing. Not to mention, it's his way of better preserving memories besides taking photos. Something else he does to unwind is watch movies and TV series, or play video games. His favorite overall genre is horror and thriller. On the lighter side, he loves all stuff that's animated, comedy and adventure fiction. Also, collects merchandise related to his favored media. Considers it a luxury, so he's not gung-ho about it. While these are all things he typically does alone. Camping and exploring abandoned places, are done together with his dad. Since they can't hang out together in broad daylight, they always go out during the night. Their activities start regularly, but sometimes end in some sort of chaos when they get overboard with property ending up mysteriously ruined. Just a not so subtle clue into what exactly happens on their trips.
Habits?: Often smokes and drinks. The first one is easier for him to keep controlled, the other is an addiction. Possibly inherited from his mother. He's aware of that, yet doesn't seem to understand how poorly it could affect him in the future. Both are used when stressed or annoyed, but gravitates towards the alcohol mostly. An insomniac, his sleep schedule has been, and still is, irregular. Tends to be active out of nowhere during later hours, and taking overnight shifts doesn't help him. All coupled together, it's easy to imagine his self-care is kinda non-existent. Not to say he's lacking in it, it's out of sheer tiredness and apathy. Irritability is a rather serious tendency due to trauma, and a main fueling reason for the reliance on bad substances. It worsens when experiencing a chain of obstacles, no matter if minor or severe. There's no clear pattern as he can seem fine in the moment, yet takes but one nudge to tip him off the edge. Resulting in sudden outbursts, causing to shut himself off from others.
Relationships?: Mark's dad has remained an integral part of his life. Who's in fact a type three alternate named Him. It's been the only one he's ever looked up to and known as family. Same impersonator was supposed to replace his biological father. It never happened as the target left Mark at a very early age before anything transpired. Sadly, living with an abusive mother got him in a worse vulnerable state. So getting attached to something inhuman, but loving, shouldn't be so surprising. Their growing bond continued while no one else had a clue. He has never cared that it's an alternate. Despite how much he's unintentionally seen and heard it lash out onto other alternates. Its raw wrathful nature is no secret. He looks past it as a means of protection. Many times he has wished he could be as reliable, strength-wise. Since Him's the single father, best friend and role-model he's ever had, he sees it in high regards. Mark would go to Hell and back for it, if need be. The relationship is far from perfect, both struggle to communicate sometimes. Opening up emotionally is hard too. For Him it's worse but as they say, like father like son. They stay silent of all this, safety's sake and to avoid unwanted attention. Living together in a little run-down apartment. Interacting with an alternate for nearly his whole childhood didn't make Mark the most sociable person. Frequently having trouble socializing, he gave up trying to befriend people his age. At some point he simply preferred being on his own. However, one real person managed to start a friendship with him. Cesar Torres. He and Mark were both young teens around the same age when they met. Cesar was a couple of months older. His outgoing personality had Mark spooked. He had little faith they'd be friends for how opposite they appeared. Took a while when he gave him a chance, once he felt like Cesar's character was genuine. They've grown close as friends over the years, Mark still remains secretive on a lot of stuff happening in his life. Usually for understandable reasons, but Cesar would appreciate to be trusted better. Nonetheless, they get along great. Both admire certain qualities the other has which they don't themselves. They enjoy pissing each other off until someone breaks. Random screaming matches over absolutely nothing have happened before. More than once, and only keep becoming more hectic. Moving back into otherworldly beings. Due to Mark's bond with an alternate, a certain figure grew interested in figuring out more about the two. After one major event, a series of unusual circumstances followed suit. Which then led to meeting a theraangel, Xanthan. When their first proper interaction went on, there was nerve-wracking tension. He wasn't sure what to make of them or what his intentions were. A lot of convincing was needed to earn Mark's trust. Managed having a mutual respect as they bonded over certain grievances each had. Later on a different date a bit, Xanthan becomes his guardian angel. Part of a deal made with Him. Solely of this guardianship, they find more things in common and have a deeper understanding of one another. In particular, their connection with art helps them be more open. Slowly Mark views them like a mentor. Maybe even as another father figure. Seeing how he appreciated his longer life experience, he'd seek out advice from him alone on the rare instance. Very few people manage to break down all the walls Xanthan puts up, and Mark was one of them. He proved to be pretty, consistently, insistent in making that guy part of his little family. Speaking of enemies, there's none to directly define as such for Mark. Besides perhaps, some people during his earlier years growing up, and few real family members he's distanced away from. None of them honestly fit such a defining label as "enemy". Yet, that doesn't mean he won't make adversaries in the future.

Hi 👋
I'm intrigued by your Mark Lives au. I'd love to know more :]
glad you asked!!! i havent talked about the full plot in a while so ill explain under the cut :]]
this is really long btw. was not expecting this
so in this au, the entire encounter with the alternate from vol 1 does happen. however, on that third night, mark runs out of bullets, and resorts to throwing himself out of his window in an attempt to both escape or to die. he ends up living (albeit, with glass wedged in his skin and a shattered leg) and he drives out of the county in an attempt at safety. its only once he's in the car that he realizes that the alternate (alt!cesar) decided to stick around him.
cesar also lives in this au, after a failed suicide attempt. however, due to the fact that they can't prove that the alternate was there in the first place, he's suspected of the murder of both his mom, and the disappearance of mark. both he and sarah end up getting out of mandela county later, both to help cesar avoid the police and to try and find mark, who everyone else seems to presume as dead.
the main story happens around seventeen years later, around the time of vol 2. mark's been subjected to the horrors for way too long, he's working at a cracker barrel (it was a joke. then it wasn't. cracker barrel mark heathcliff is very funny to me), and he thinks that his friend and or/family is dead. things get even worse for him when two assholes hit him with a van one night, and he recognizes them as adam murray and jonah marshall, who's wanted posters have been spread all around town. they try to convince him not to report them to the police, and end up offering for him to take part of the money from their most recent job. he accepts, and ends up sticking with them. they want to know why this guy knows way too much about the paranormal stuff they're hunting down (and why he carries that gun everywhere he goes), and he wants to see if they might be able to help with his alternate problem.
cut to later, when they get a call from this lady asking for their help in having her ghost cat move on. because it pays a lot, they accept, and they end up going to the house. mark immediately recognizes it as cesar's old house and begins to panic, but heads in with adam anyway. they end up staying there for the nights, everything's pretty much the same as canon up until adam discovers that the basement door is unlocked now. mark, in the other room, hears jonah yelling through the radio, and manages to stop adam before he heads in, saying that he'll go down there instead. reluctantly, adam accepts, and heads back to the car while mark goes into the basement.
once in the basement, mark realizes that the whole cat thing was a trick, like he'd initially thought, and ends up face-to-face with six and all of the other alternates in there. cue the typical psychological torture, six showing him images from the past, and a certain alternate that seems to be taking on his appearance. he's trapped, just like he was during his first encounter with alt cesar.
meanwhile, adam and jonah, while driving away from the house, get into yet another fight, adam saying that they should go back, and jonah wanting to do what mark said and not go back there in case it's not safe. they end up parking the car and beating the shit out of each other in the snow (as friends do, of course) before agreeing to think about it overnight and decide tomorrow. they go home, and with that their contract with the house is over.
the next day, who else but mark shows up at the door, claiming that there was nothing in the basement and that by the time he'd gotten out, they were already gone, and his radio wasn't working. they let him in, and shrug it off as just good luck.
three days later, they get a new call, this time about sightings in an old house somewhere near the woods. they head to the place, where adam ends up finding a chainsaw left by one of the people that lived there. against jonah's advice, he ends up taking it "for safety measures", and the three continue to search for the things reported.
they're all very on edge (with the exception of mark, who seems oddly silent during this entire thing), and in a moment of fear, adam attempts to use the chainsaw on something he sees moving. there's nothing there, however, aside from mark.
mark, who just had a chainsaw put through his arm. mark, who's blood appears more like wet clay the color of ink than blood. mark, who's face contorts to one replaced by a mouth of sharp teeth with a single eye in the back.
that's not mark, they realize, and immediately start running from the alternate, getting into the car and driving away. they decide to head back to the house where they left the actual mark, in hopes that he'll be alive by the time they get there.
when they get to the house, adam goes into the basement to find him, while jonah waits at the top of the stairs to make sure he comes back up. when adam walks into the basement only to see a tv with bullet holes through it, several alternates staring at him from the corners of the room, and mark passed out with that gun close to his head, he doesn't seem to take it too well. however, it doesn't say anything, and after some urging from jonah, drags a hopefully not dead mark out of the basement. they get him into the car and drive away before the alternate can catch up to them.
the alternate turns out to be the least of their problems when they hear sirens; one of the neighbors saw them dragging this guy out of the house and thought it was a kidnapping of sorts. now they've got both the alternate and the cop to worry about, and they manage to evade the police just enough to hide in a closed office.
this only works for a few minutes, before the alternate catches up with them, searching the room as it mimics mark's voice (who, for the most part, was screaming in the basement, meaning that this alternate is also screaming. that's not fun). the alternate ends up finding jonah, saying something to him, before adam, who still has the chainsaw with him, decides to try and fight the alternate, quickly realizing that they can't be harmed as he watches it get cut in half, only to reform seconds later and appear even angrier.
as if things couldn't get worse, who else but the cop that was following them, thatcher davis, shows up, ready to arrest the three when he sees the alternate and focuses on driving it away instead. it does eventually leave after getting annoyed with being shot at, leaving only mark, adam, jonah, and thatcher there.
thatcher, upon recognizing mark, panics a little because he'd written him off as dead years ago. at this point, they're all too tired to resist arrest, and end up going to the station. the three of them are asked about the alternate encounter, as well as other questions due to the fact that two are wanted by the fbi and one has presumed dead for around two decades.
thatcher calls sarah (they're still enemies in this au. sarah absolutely cyberbullies thatcher in this au), who doesn't believe that thatcher is telling the truth, but she shows up to the station anyways. the heathcliff siblings are reunited now, but there's still problems due to the fact that jonah's caught mad due to alt!mark (which is what we're calling the alternate from before), alt!cesar is still around, the three are still arrested, and also mark brought a demon cat with him from the basement. yeah that happens. the cat's named jonny and has an eye spine and he leaves alternate goop everywhere. mark why do you have that
im still working on plot stuff from here, but what i do know is that mark and cesar end up meeting again, all three get out of prison (whether legally or illegally i have no idea), mark and dave get to see each other again, and alt!mark gets to be a bitch to jonah, whos now dealing with mad.
so thats the majority of the plot so far, im sure there's things im missing or things i didnt explain well, but yeah! plot's changed quite a bit since the beginning, and im glad you're interested in it! im down to answer any questions :]

Wenn der Regenbogen kippt ... (DE-APART-HATE)
—see English version below—

When the Rainbow Tips Over ... (DE-APART-HATE)
Performative and choreographic, this is how DE-APART-HATE is described in the festival programme. And this promise is fulfilled as soon as you enter the auditorium. Mamela Nyamza moves singing and dancing through the space and the audience as it streams in to the beat of choral, South African, infectious, rhythmic music. There is no speaking, nor is there much throughout the course of the performance; there are only a few individual scenes, in which Bible verses are quoted. The focus is much rather on the physical and the emotional. The central object of the entire play is a bench painted in rainbow colours, which represents the state of South Africa, where Mamela comes from. To many, South Africa appears on first glance to be a stable country. Probably because of Nelson Mandela’s influence, it has become a country associated with improvement and equal rights as well as the official end of apartheid. South Africa is hardly or not present at all in the media, one might therefore assume that everything is fine. However, we know far too little about this country and the idea of an exotic idyll and harmony is a bubble that quickly bursts on closer inspection.
Mamela also works autobiographically in the production and represents her perspective on the nation as a lesbian artist. She belongs to a minority and is reminded of that every day, she tells us in the post-show discussion. Feeling safe, at home in your own country, is an illusion. One characteristic and significant scene is the one in which her fellow performer, Aphiwe Livi, is standing on the brightly coloured bench – or rather: trying to stand on it. Because, although a bench might be a material embodiment of stability, this bench is unbalanced, it teeters and totters. In the scene, Aphiwe is standing on the bench, trying to balance it and himself, trying to find the middle. The effort this takes cannot go unnoticed: his painful facial expression, his muscles tense. He fails in his attempt to finally get the bench permanently level. Strained, he recites Bible verses and prayers, first impulsively and intuitively, then rising to screams in the end. He is praying for his country. In vain. South Africa is unstable, there is a lack of transformation and progress. At the same time, the bench is a reference to the rules of the relatively recent apartheid: public benches were explicitly marked and separated for use by blacks and whites. But the abolishment of apartheid could not change the country overnight. As a president, Mandel inspired optimism, however, under the rule of Zumas, this has now turned into pessimism and anger. The production reflects this visually. All the emotions, the feeling of not getting anywhere, the fear are expressed in dance, facial expressions, song and few words.
In her play, DE-APART-HATE, which could be read as ‘depart hate’ or ‘the apartheid’, Mamela certainly works provocatively, such as for example when she holds the open Bible between her spread, almost naked legs, in front of her crotch, licks her index finger, turns the pages and looks deeply and directly into the audience’s eyes as she does so. Because although the Church in South Africa does partly offer the strength to go on and a sense of community, it also does not keep its promise for change. Rainbow nation? Diversity? Equal rights for all genders, classes and races – no way. And to get recognition as an artist and to be able to live (or even survive) from art, remains but a dream in South Africa.
Mamela presents her hope for change in a creative way. Now and again there are scenes in which we just wait, simply wait: for something to happen. A tension spreads throughout the audience, it’s almost uncomfortable. The country too is not moving, the bench is not moving, and that’s not what stability means. The bench becomes a symbol of imbalance and stagnation in one.
The play speaks for the desire for something new, it demands change through the exposure of current problems and conflicts in South African society – and pushes open the door to transformation. With their art, Mamela and the new young generation of artists have already taken the first step in the direction of social progress.

so the Mandela overnight au, huh.. Do you have any specific character designs for them? What relationships do all the characters have with each other? ( ex: friends, enemies, BEST friends )
i haven’t designed them yet (im at school and its hard to do art w/ homework and stuff) but uhh cabin 333 (adam, jonah, sarah, evelin) are friends, they made a group to investigate What In The Fuck is happening at this camp
mark and cesar (the besties !!) are still alive
the mcpthree are best friends in this au (maybe…maybe parent figures to cabin 333......) and theyre the only counselors that are uh. kept out of the loop, lets say (also still alive...for now...)
the alternates are also counselors, but they know more about The Fuckery than the mcpthree do. theyre also not on good terms with the mcpthree, treat them as lesser and such
now for gabriel, he hates everyone. some of the counselors he treats better than the others though (preacher and six)
thats all i got for now im about to have my phone taken away
