In my earlier posts about mandalas in PMMM, I forgot one major example: the ones that appear towards the end of Rebellion as Homura explains what she's done to Kyubey. Interestingly, it's not the same mandala each time; there are several variations.
This one has a "peacock's tail" edging and central lotus.

This one is more flower-centric:

This one has what appears to be teeth (?), which would be in keeping with a former Nutcracker Witch:

This one has the same stylized heads that appear elsewhere in the movie (in Homura's transformation sequence and in the "Tunnel of Love"), along with what are either two tomoe together or a yin-yang sign:

This one has a multiplicity of hands:

The word mandala is Sanskrit for 'circle'--a major theme in this series full of cycles, loops, and revolutions. In Pure Land Buddhist tradition, they represent maps of various celestial realms created by buddhas or bodhisattvas--which also makes sense in this context as the universe itself is being rewritten according to Homura's design, in a way that has an awful lot of parallels with these "buddha-fields". Thus even as Homura sets up a Christian dualism with "God" and "demon", light and darkness, the background imagery reinforces Buddhist tropes, resulting in an unusual religious syncretism.
Despite the name, not all of these realms are pure--some are impure, or mixed--which makes the comparison to both witch labyrinths and universal resets even more apt. Earlier in the film, Homulily was depicted with a halo-like mandala around her head, likely as a nod to her status as a creator of the world inside Homura's soul gem; the path to Madokami's own "pure land" zigzags outward from the center of a mandala as well.
The mandala's association with both divinity and world creation in Rebellion is especially interesting given that Walpurgisnacht bears one as well in the original series--something that no other witch appears to possess--but likely refers to her theatrical/stage themes, which is also a form of world-creation, as well as her ability to seamlessly blend reality and fantasy together in her appearances (not to mention the meta-suggestion in the opening that she is narrating/projecting the story itself).

Animated Mandalas (With Code!)
In some of the rare times where I create something small and cool, I love sharing it with other people :)
For context, I've been working on a video game and started looking into some loading screens. I got carried away a bit, but I loved the capabilities and parameters I could experiment with here!
Since my game is set in a Mystery Solarpunk world, I was aiming for brighter and lighter color schemes :).
I was surprised with how beautiful all the parameter combinations can be!

So if you want to try it yourself, feel free to check out the following repo:
https://github.com/AB3000/processing-fun/tree/main/MandalaRunner
You will need to download Processing in order to run it. It's a nice open-source sketchbook language built on top of Java to draw some cool visuals :)).

If you end up creating something with it, please tag me so I can see your creations! B)
Also, if you happen to have a GitHub account, I would love it if you could star the repo as well (but no pressure on this!) :))

“Mandala of Padmapani: Savior of Great Compassion” by Romio Shrestha (2000)
Mandalas can be used as an object of meditation, helping to improve your ability to concentrate, focus, direct and sustain your attention. This will then assist in activating your higher centres.
In performing this practice you should allow yourself to spend as much time as you need to focus on different parts of the image, letting different symbols unfold their meanings, associations and relationships.
This is a journey inwards.

I think @koddlet finally helped me overcome some debilitating perfectionism. Let’s just make art! Let’s say things and feel things and share things! This is a minizine for Zinetober. Enjoy my scratchy pen marks and imperfect folding. I had fun making this; hope you have fun viewing.
