5 - sandalwood
it was just an experiment in the beginning. the sandalwood shapoo reminding him of his first home centuries ago, his mother's loving - then horrified, angry - kisses. an experiment, to see if he could handle it after all these years.
he couldn't, but he was a masochist and kept at it, and it almost broke him until alec stumbled into his life. his boyfriend - husband, eventually - loved magnus' sandalwood scents, always taking an appreciative, slightly longer kiss every time magnus covered himself in those aching reminders.
it didn't take long for magnus to add another thought to his sandalwood:
alec. his kisses, healing long-scarred wounds; his warrior's hands gently roaming over magnus' brown skin. the memory of him saying they're beautiful. you're beautiful. like it was just that simple to him.
sandalwood is so many homes, his first home [the blue, blue water, his mother's brown eyes and gentle hugs turned harsh punishments] to alec's simple i love you, like magnus hadn't fought and bled to make his own family for centuries.
sandalwood is home.

4 - bruises
they're little pieces of love. magnus laves them all over his body, kisses and remnants of their nights.
and when he comes home with aches and discolored skin from patrol, or slamming into the asphalt- magnus kisses them too, the bruises that so quickly heal under nephilim recovery. it's good, the soft and sure touches magnus offers him every day.
his bruises are marks of struggle, marks of love, and he loves every single one.

2 - glitter
magnus laughs and lets his glitter everywhere. it spreads into alec's life, like the love magnus has for him. he breathes, and it falls when he shimmmies into the leather jackets he now keeps at magnus' loft. glitter is home, and it's really annoying but it represents his life now:
indulgent, able to live in the small moments, alive instead of just surviving from day to day.
glitter is laughing in the middle of breakfast as magnus regales him with the tale of how he was banned from a very small municipality in the middle of a now-obselete kingdom. he swears the llamas had nothing to do with it, alec, stop laughing-
glitter is magnus at his highest and his lowest, his husband's shield when he can finally breathe and it's the love of his life but even more so; glitter is what magnus is: in alec's life, leaving remnants of himself everywhere, and annoyingly [amazingly, beautifully] hard to get rid of.

they had found church outside a building, many many lives ago. church doesn't know exactly when, but he knows he's had at least three other Humans before. he looks down at his newest pair from his perch: a tall, pale Person - marked like jem - and a darker-skinned Person without any of those same markings.
he watches them dance around each other for precisely three days before headbutting the tall Person directly into the shorter one's arms. he yelps, and church struts off happily.
