I’m reading the Throne of Glass series because I didn’t want to miss out on any possible connections to the third Crescent City book that’s coming out soon and I am overwhelmed.
It feels like I’ve given myself a gigantic many-thousand page homework assignment, but also it’s my favorite series I’ve read, maybe ever?
And I just finished Queen of Shadows and I want to crawl all over social media to look at the fan art, but I don’t want any more spoilers. I already know most of the ships through ACOTAR fandom spillover but the plot has remained unspoiled so far. Like, I know what characters fall in love, but not like, anything that happens.
And I have THOUGHTS about when one should read Assassin’s Blade (absolutely not first) and I’ve heard some people prefer a TANDEM READ (?!) of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, like what even is this series? Help, I have so many pages left still and I have no idea what will happen.

Heather, Dagur, Rainier, and Mala in my HTTYD 3 wip (15ish years after HTTYD 2)
More details about their family below
I imagine this is the Berserkers/Defender royal family arriving in Berk for The Thing
Heather and Dagur are clearly excited...they they to see Astrid and Hiccup 😏
Rainier (14 - 15yo) is significantly less excited. He does not want to be there (doesn't want to be around the other kids), but it's his responsibility to shadow his parents and learn from them - especially as the heir to both the Berserkers and Defenders. He takes his duties seriously, so he's there begrudgingly. He'd much rather be at home, sparring with Throk. (He probably wishes Throk were his father tbh)
He really wants to impress his mother, who is not the most physically affectionate, but her approval means the world to him. He has his father's approval (and very clear affection), but as he gets older and learns more about his father's past, that means less and less to him.
Rainier is a mix of the most important adults in his life: like Heather when she was his age, he's defensive and has a hard time getting close to people. His aunt is also pretty much his only friend. He looks his father and has his anger issues - though if anyone pointed out the similarities between them, he'd draw a sword on them. He strives to be like his mother and values his responsibilities very strongly. He even dresses like his mom and moves and speaks like her - as if that can somehow make him less like the father he so clearly resembles.
Dagur and Mala have grown apart over the years, partially because of the growing rift between Dagur and Rainier (and the thing with his eye. it's a long story). They love each other but aren't really in love (or rather, Dagur is in love - or at least wants to be - and Mala isn't). They try not to argue and end up speaking very little instead of risking a fight. Heather ends up being the go-between to make sure everyone is okay. She feels like she spends all her time taking care of others while they rarely remember to make sure she's alright.
They arrrrre falling apart at the seams. I can't wait to write their scenes. I love them so much.

 Aelin Ashryver Galathynius
She was Aelin Ashryver Galathynius—and she would not be afraid.
- Heir of Fire
She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Aelin Fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.
- Queen of Shadows
A living god - Mala's heir and conqueror of the known world.
- Empire of Storms

Encontré esto en la etiqueta #anti rhaenicent. Es realmente extraño cómo Rhaenyra siempre es la mala para esta gente. Alicent es siempre la "víctima" y rhaenyra siempre es la "mocosa" para ellos.
Unfortunately I don't know enough Spanish to answer in it, I'm so sorry about that.
Yeah, I actually blocked that poster a while back lmao. I find it interesting that Alicent stans think Rhaenyra is a "spoiled brat" while Alicent is also in a position of massive privilege, and her children are in the same positions Rhaenyra is in during the first episode.
Any complaints about her being "ungrateful" could apply to Alicent. Rhaenyra is upset about how her father doesn't love her as much as he would a son and how her father only made her heir to spite Daemon. Alicent is also upset about how her father doesn't view her as equal to his sons and only uses her as a political pawn. Both are girls who have never wanted for any material thing, their families have power and protection.
A lot of them say Rhaenyra should be grateful for being able to choose her husband, I disagree. Being allowed to pick her husband came with a lot of unspoken and spoken restrictions. The first of which is that the man had to meet her father's expectations, meaning if she had asked to marry Daemon, she would have been refused, even without the brothel incident. She also was still being forced to marry, no matter the choice.
TG stans seem to think that Rhaenyra should have just accepted the fact that she was being forced to marry, as if it's not something she should have a say in. They're obsessed with enforcing modern standards on her until that point (ie she's not feminist enough, she isn't a marxist, etc). Apparently it's wrong for Rhaenyra to want to not be sold by her father in marriage, even if she gets to pick the buyer. That's not actually a privilege, women like Jeyne Arryn, who are able to refuse marriage all together, are the ones with the true privilege.
Rhaenyra is also criticized for not being happy or at least content in her marriage to Laenor. A marriage both she and Laenor were forced into and one neither of them could ever deride satisfaction and happiness from. Laenor is never criticized for being unhappy, but for some reason (misogyny), Rhaenyra is the one who has to live in misery, while Laenor can try to find happiness elsewhere.
Alicent is somehow still a perfect victim, even though she's the second most powerful person in the realm. As queen consort she has more privilege than anyone other than Viserys himself. Yet she is somehow still a perpetual victim, even though she has more power over her life than Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra is privileged, yes, but so are Alicent and her children. Rhaenyra being unhappy being a victim of the patriarchy and actually fighting for her happiness don't make her a "brat".

HTTYD X ATLA AU
Yes, I will draw them. Someday… I promise
I'm starting from the idea that the 4 nations aren't completely divided, and that benders of the 4 elements live together, as in the case of Berk, although the most common are firebenders. It's become a big mix and that's why it's harder to know who will be the next Avatar
Hiccup: The Avatar. However, when he was born, apparently, He didn't bend any of the elements, considered a nonbender, until find out he's the Avatar.
Astrid: Waterbender. Yes, again using the blue outfit as justification, but I also think water suits her. She and Katara would be besties.
Fishlegs: Earthbender. What I like about earthbending is that it's a completely opposite element to his personality, he's a kind and adorable guy, while earthbending is hard and offensive. But it completely suits him too, because he's protective and strong, and he likes gardening. Bonecrusher likes it for sure
Snotlout: Firebender. Do I really need to explain about this?
Tuffnut and Ruffnut: Airbenders. They're both airheads, so. But seriously, I think the air really suits them, how much they would mess around. Just look at Tenzin's children, or even Aang himself.
Heather: Nonbender. For me, she would be like Asami (and Astrid could be Korra, I'm just saying). Strong and powerful without needing to bend. She would be good with weapons but would also use technology.
Dagur: Firebender. Honestly, it's the most offensive element and it can create lightning, do you want more explanations? But also, I like the idea of him being a Nonbender like his sister. Like, being an heir, they expected him to be a powerful bender, but he ended up disappointing his family and people. So he went through such heavy training that it ruined his psychology.
Mala: She and the entire Defenders of the Wings tribe are Nonbenders. A tribe that lives isolated and without any benders, having a certain repudiation for them, until they meet the Avatar and his gang.
Atali: She and the Wingmaidens are also Nonbenders, but they would be more like the Kyoshi Warriors. Or they could also be like Gliders, so they could "fly".
Now some that I'm just going to throw here and won't comment on
Stoick, Spitelout and Gustav: Firebenders
Gobber: Non or Earthbender (especially Metalbender)
Gothi: Waterbender
Viggo: Non or Waterbender (especially Bloodbender. Thanks @reallyprofoundkryptonite for the idea)
Ryker: Earth or Firebender
Krogan: Fire or Nonbender
There're a lot of characters missing, but I can't think of anyone else right now. The main ones are here. Feel free to give your opinions and headcanons.

because this blog clearly needed more Attractive Generals(tm) ... i'm adding another, associated with the hostage prince universe 8)c. but he comes with a twist !
cài bó hán ( 蔡 博涵 , "knowledgeable and well-cultivated" ) is one of the generals of the anjiang royal army, and is chén jiā wěi's best friend / sworn brother.
but before he was any of that ... he was the crown prince of tongzu, a small but affluent vassal state in the south, and was born with the family name zhū and the given name hé píng ( 朱 和平 , "peace" ). his relationship with his father, the tongzu king, was not especially close; though he was a filial son in his youth, his father was largely absent and showed him very little care. he also did not hesitate to try and force zhū hé píng into a loveless marriage to the eldest daughter of the king of an rong, another southern vassal state, for political gain.
zhū hé píng did not suffer this gladly; in fact, after exchanging some heated words with his father about his outright refusal to be trapped in a marriage for politics instead of for love ... zhū hé píng committed what may have been the most unforgivable sin in families of his time: he renounced his name, asked to be removed from the family records, and fled tongzu in the middle of the night, alone.
as the only male heir to the tongzu king, this understandably caused problems immediately, and his father did not hesitate to send scouting troops from the tongzu royal army to look for him. zhū hé píng fled to the west, eventually coming across a small b.uddhist monastery in the province of jining ( which itself bordered anjiang. ) he was tonsured immediately, and chose the name cài bó hán for himself.
cài bó hán would have continued to live at the monastery, being sheltered by his fellow monks as he sought to avoid being discovered by the tongzu royal army --- were it not for the sudden invasion of jining some five or six years later by a neighboring state, seeking to absorb jining and take its material wealth for themselves. it was at this time that cài bó hán had his first introduction to chén jiā wěi, who led his anjiang royal army in defense of jining and repelled the invaders; though the monastery was ruined, he instructed a detachment of his troops to assist with rebuilding and sheltering the monks in the interim. cài bó hán, who was so struck by the nature of his character, introduced himself --- including the real nature of his identity --- and asked to return to anjiang with him. chén jiā wěi, realizing that the tongzu royal army would never invade anjiang due to the anjiang royal army's strength, and thus could never force cài bó hán to return to his homeland and be trapped in a loveless marriage, accepted, and brought cài bó hán back to anjiang with him.
it should be noted that cài bó hán --- both by virtue of his prior status as crown prince of tongzu, and because of the warrior-monk nature of the monastery he joined in jining --- does participate in military actions of the anjiang royal army, and has in fact attained the rank of general, despite his insistence on using only martial arts for both offensive and defensive maneuvers: he does not carry a sword or a bow and arrow. in addition, he maintains the appearance of a monk, including wearing the jiasha robes, as he was never expelled from the sangha; one day, when there is finally peace in chan'le, he plans to return to jining to rebuild the monastery and resume monastic life.
facts: thirty-two years old. 6'0 tall. wears mala beads around his neck, a gift from one of the monks at the monastery he fled to, and the only worldly possession he treasures. originally was not particularly devout, but eventually found b.uddhist principles to be comforting in his darkest hours. has a soft spot for chén yán yǎ. does not drink or participate in many worldly pleasures. very well-educated and well-spoken, with a deep, soothing voice. he may offer to light incense for you --- but it's up to you to determine whether that comes from a place of sincerity or sarcasm.
fc: l.iu x.ue.yi ( 1 / 2 / 3. )

Important Nonfamilial Members of House Malus
Maester Othell. Othell has served Sweetgrove for most of his adult life. Maester Othell carries the normal duties of a Maester, providing sage guidance to the Malus'. He also serves as the the main tutor in academic matters, instructing in history, politics, arithmetic, and even High Valyrian. Maester Othell was also responsible for the treatment of Lady Esther's long term illness, though she eventually succumbed and passed away.
Septa Maryia. In her role of septa Maryia was responsible for the education of all the Malus daughters in the Faith of the Seven and womanly arts. Though she presided over all the Malus girls young Lady Adelaide spent the least amount of time with Septa Maryia, having been pulled away by other academic studies and duties as heir. While skilled in many arts, Lady Lucilia proved to need much more supervision than any of her sisters.
Willow. Simply Willow, a native of the Riverlands found herself in service to Lady Esther as a midwife for her first pregnancy. The pregnancy wasn't easy and the birth unusual, with the babe having been born un caul. The position was meant to be temporary, but Willow decided to stay on as a cook for the Malus' household and assist with Lady Esther's fertility and births in the years to come.
Ser Theodore Dunn. A knight sworn in service of the Malus household and master-at-arms for Sweetgrove. Ser Theodore was fostered alongside Alon Malus and eventually the pair began training to as squires together as well. The two would have been life long friends if Alon had not passed away in a tragic horseback riding incedent. A third son with nothing to inherit Theodore pledged service to Douglas Malas in honor of his dear friend.

Can we talk a little bit about the fact that Snotlout is ABSOLUTELY CANONICALLY overweight?
"I think, with a little less mutton and a little more exercise, you will be perfect" (c) Mala, "Defenders of the Wing, Part 2"
In addition, in the comic book "The Serpent's Heir" they even show him half-naked. Just look at his belly:

I think I began to love Snotlout even more.

shower thoughts about my httyd ocs
rainier's reasons for resenting nia seem surface level at first - he's quiet, reserved, and serious; she's outgoing, bubbly, and acts on impulse.
but it's not just that that bothers him, not even that she seems to get along with his father better than he does -- she has a perfect life: a life he would give anything to have, and she seems to take so much of it for granted.
her father bayana doesnt have a dishonourable past like rainier's father dagur does. perhaps bayana had some issues with the dragon riders and silkspanners when he first arrived in the archipelago, but that pales in comparison to all the harm dagur inflicted on dragons and dragon riders in his youth (and the fact that he was imprisoned by another chieftain for three years). and what's more, bayana is known for being shrewd and strategic. he doesn't try to smash his way through problems like...some people....
nia's mother, yuka is sweet and encouraging - never stingy with praise or physical affection. rainier vaguely remembers being closer with his mother mala when he was younger, but things changed over time. either he changed, or she did...or both. and now the most he can expect from her is a nod of approval, or the hint of a smile. a raised brow followed by "well done" from mala will make rainier's entire day. meanwhile, yuka will kiss her daughter on the cheek and nia squirms impatiently, as if her mother's love is something to be embarrassed about.
and not only does nia have the admiration of the kids on berk (who rainier never feels comfortable around), but she has several younger siblings. rainier cant say for certain that he'd get along well with siblings, but he knows he would be a protective and responsible older brother if given the chance. he'd never let harm come to a child in his care the way harm came to him when he lost his eye. and he thinks wistfully...perhaps selfishly...he would be able to share the weight of his responsibilities.
nia has the future of one tribe resting on her shoulders, and a line of younger siblings to help carry the load. both the defenders of the wing and the berserkers look to rainier as their heirs. he's long given up hope of his aunt heather having a child to rule the berserkers or his mother having another child.
so everything falls to him. and as much as he wants to be worthy of that responsibility, he can't help but feel that it's too much for him.

Okay, buckle in because I have an SJMverse theory connecting all three of her series and what comes next.
I’m re-reading A Court of Silver Flames and I get to the scene where Nesta accidentally scrys during Gwyn’s singing and projects her mind to the chamber under the mountain prison where she finds the harp at the center of an ancient chamber that has wards (wyrd markings) and eight pointed star at the center, right under the harp. Time does not exist in this chamber. When Nesta asks about the star, Cassian says it might be part of the night court and then he says that Rhys mentioned once that it “might have even been an eighth court”. Nesta’s inner monologue makes it clear that she doesn’t believe it’s the night court because the magic feels different than night court magic. It would also make sense to have another court. We have four seasonal courts (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) and three celestial courts (day, dawn, and night). My theory is that there is a fourth celestial court that has to do with stars, just like the night court. But that comes later. At the center of this chamber guarded against time is an eight pointed star. You know where else we’ve seen an eight pointed star? When Bryce Quinlan from Crescent City does the drop, she’s left with an eight pointed star on her chest, the mark of the starborn fae. This makes me think that the “eighth court” are the starborn fae that were transported to Midgard and possibly another celestial court, like night, day, and dawn. Something to do with stars, so maybe a dusk court. Or…..The Twilight Court. Because twilight is the light from the sky between full night and sunrise or between sunset and full night. So between night court and dawn/day court. And you know what Sarah J Maas has on her goodreads page? A book that’s set to come out called..wait for it…….Twilight of the Gods. We have Twilight but where do the Gods come in? Are these the God’s Aelin banished in Kingdom of Ash? I firmly believe that the “Gods” represent the three leading SJM women. Sun, Night, and Stars. Aelin, Feyre, and Bryce.
Aelin Galathynius- Queen of Terrasen, representing the sun. Heir to Mala Firebringer, the sun Goddess of Erliea.
Feyre Archeron- High Lady of the Night Court, representing the moon. There’s many parallels drawn between her and Deanna, the goddess of the moon and sister of Mala Firebringer. Feyre’s abilities revolve around shadow and darkness and she wields a bow and arrow, like Artemis (basis for Deanna) from Bryce’s world as well but there she’s named Luna.
Bryce Quinlan- Starborn princess of the fae. Has abilities of starlight and the most powerful starborn fae in existence. She could be considered a god in her own right.
Three of them represent the God’s of celestial proportions. I have a feeling that Crescent City 3 will set up the ultimate plot and battle and culmination of all of SJM’s books in this book Twilight of the Gods. An Avengers: Endgame type of battle. Somehow, each of the major villains (the gods, the asteri, Hybern, the demon princes, Maeve, the prison under the mountain) from all the books are connected in some way and Twilight of the Gods will be the ultimate crossover between all three worlds and have Aelin, Feyre, and Bryce fighting together. Maybe even combining their magic. What makes me think this even more is the title. Twilight of the Gods. You Google it and the first thing that comes up is a reference to Norse Mytholoy and Ragnorak and “a series of major events foretold to result in the death of a number of gods”. Bryce lives somewhere named Midgard, also from Norse mythology. The God’s being killed are the gods Aelin banished and maybe the asteri. Maybe they’re even the same. I may sound like a lunatic but I think it’s a solid theory? Any thoughts lol?
Oh and I think the third Crescent City book will be called House of Flame and Shadow because not only is that one of the houses in Crescent City, it’s also two words used in one of the Throne of Glass books to describe Aelin. I forget which one and the passage but I know she’s referenced as flames and shadow. Flames because of her magic and shadow for her being an assassin.
