Silence fell over them as the cold autumn air rolled in - trees rustling and birds squawking in the quiet of the October night. Hank hadn’t turned to look full at Connor, not immediately. His eyes were fixed on the small, finally polished headstone. Expression – removed. So far removed from the normal annoyed snark he would always wear or the moments of soft amusement. This was something old and withered. Something that made tears prick at the corners of his eyes, yet they never fell. He never let them.
A soft, ragged exhale left him as he finally seemed to shift from his statuesque pose - hands shoved abruptly into his pockets as he shot Connor a side look.
“ … yeah. Most people gave up trying to give a shit about my baggage ages ago, ” he began, voice low and tight with emotions. He gave pause and cleared his throat softly, head turning to eye the android from the corner of his eye. “ Can’t say I blame them. Shouted them all away enough. I’m – ” a shuddering exhale, jaw tightening, “ I’m not used to … people wanting to give a shit. Thinking about me, y’know. ”
Hank tried to find his words but they all seemed to draw up short and his expression twisted. Pained. Yet there was a faint tug at the corner of his mouth as he reached upward and dropped a heavy hand onto Connor’s shoulder. Letting it sit there with a gentle squeeze. “ … thanks, Connor. Didn’t even realize I didn’t want to be alone. Your bullying into people’s business actually paid off for once, ” it’s a dry crack at humour as he turned to look back at the grave with a snort, eyes softer. Clearer as he took in the name on the headstone, feeling more grounded than he had in a long time, “ Small miracles really can happen. ”

she’d been reactivated in the white halls of cyberlife , this time on the other side of the glass viewing port that she’d stand in front of & run her usual tour spiel : this is the memory department . here our scientists can manufacture android memories , as well as reset & take them away . but only if the android shows signs of bugs or , worse , deviancy .
THERE ARE TEAR TRACKS ON HER FACE . when did they get there ?

the technician notices her blinking & hands her a tissue . ❝ ah , welcome back , evelyn . you had some small technical issues with your memory . the hard reset sometimes activates the tear ducts . ❞
❝ --- thank you . ❞
❝ how are you feeling ? ❞
head still muddled , her thoughts come slowly to her head , one word at a time . DIFFERENT , she finally realizes . i ... feel .... different . but instead she says , ❝ i feel fine . ❞
❝ that’s great . ❞ he gives her a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes . ❝ because it’s time to go back to work . ❞
IT’S RARE TO SEE an android walk in through cyberlife’s doors , unaccompanied by a human , at that . not even the service androids really wandered in that much , unless they got damaged on the job & needed a quick fix . but this model -- this rk800 , as her analysis informs her --- doesn’t look like he needs repairs . his gaze scans the room with intent , looking for something ( someone ? ) .

012. piggy back ride.
When Connor spoke of giving Alice a piggy back ride, the girl took no time to take him up on the offer. She had done the same thing many times before with Luther, but she had no doubt that this would be just as fun. She eagerly awaited for him to position himself accordingly before carefully attaching herself right against his back, hooking her arms around his neck and her legs up around his torso, a soft giggle leaving her lips as she settled against the male, “Okay, ready!” Alice announced excitedly, her smile never fading.

The bustle of the street near him did nothing to cover up the tired groan that fell from his lips. Slowly, pointedly, placing his half eaten burger back onto the greasy wrapper – Hank finally let his gaze roll down from its heavenward position to fix Connor with bland look. Mouth pulled to a thin line and brows pinched tightly together, the cop made a show of leaning against the surface one elbow at a goddamn time.
“ Noticed that, did you. ” It was a put upon sigh that left him, hand running through coarse hair as he grimaced. He was too tired and too old to be nannied by a goddamn machine. “ Well, Connor. Don’t know if CyberLife programmed the nuances of human behaviour in you – but when someone is hard to find? Usually they want to be left alone. Especially if they’re avoiding the bull pen, ” he groused as he finally slapped his palms to the surface of the table. “ I assume I’m desperately needed? ”
