And it's funny because like. Every single thing I've even been peripherally aware of for Arthur and his sister having a kid is that she casts a spell on him and does it on purpose.

I don't think I've actually found a single ancient legend that actually has that happen. I haven't read them all, obvioiusly, but like, pretty damn sure it's Merlin's fault for literally not telling anyone who Arthur's parents were. They just literally didn't know they were related.

Virge, have you ever heard one particular song, Mordred's Lullaby? The title character is from a surfacer myth cycle, but I don't know how much of Arthurian legend made its way into the Underdark. The lyrics and subject seem very... Drow, at times. It's about Morgan le Fay, a fairy or witch depending on your source, corrupting her 'guileless son' to mold him into a weapon meant to betray, murder and usurp her half-brother, the king.

1. Vienna Teng. I talk about her a fair amount, but...god, her music came into my life through my parents, and I love her music so much. It’s beautiful, the lyrics are beautiful, I’ve been to something like three live performances of her and every time...her music fills me with that feeling I really can’t describe. Vienna Teng is my comfort music. Faves: My Medea, Between, Gravity, Never Look Away 

2. Nightwish. Just barely beat out Within Temptation, but I listen to a lot more Nightwish these days. I’m loyal to Tarja flavor Nightwish, but I love some of the newer stuff too. I went hard into metal for a while (particularly symphonic), and while I don’t listen to most of it as much anymore, Nightwish has stuck around. Faves: Nemo, Over the Hills and Far Away, Ghost Love Score, Amaranth

3. Heather Dale. Mythologically/folklorically inspired music? Sign me the fuck up. I love folk, I really do, and Heather Dale has the texture of folk with a little bit of an edge. Faves: Crashing Down, Mordred’s Lullaby, Medusa, Tristan and Isolt

4. Blackmore’s Night. Similar to the above. Sounds like a Renaissance Faire feels, but better. Faves: Ghost of a Rose, 25 Years, Windmills

5. Patrick Wolf. The only other artist I’ve seen live, which tells you a lot about how I feel about him. I love his music so much - his earlier stuff is very dark, which I prefer, but all of his work is great. He hasn’t released anything new for a while, and I’m really hoping he does. Faves: Teignmouth (the version from Sundark and Riverlight), Tristan, The Libertine, Armistice, Damaris

Nicknames: Funny story, for several years my nickname was actually my first and last name stuck together as one word. Aren’t nicknames usually supposed to be shorter...?

Zodiac Sign: Taurus, through and through. It fits me so well I got it tattooed on my arm.

Hogwarts House: Not actually sure, as I’m not a Potterhead. But based on what I do know, I’d wager I’m a Gryffinclaw.

Favorite musicians: Like honestly that’s always in flux but all-time I really like me some (old school) Linkin Park and Evanescence. Shit that appealed to my dark tortured soul back in high school lol.

Song stuck in my head: “Mordred’s Lullaby” by Heather Dale. It’s a beautiful song but it’s actually from the perspective of an emotional abuser... but sometimes it gets me in the headspace to write Adora-centric chapters because it reminds me of her relationship with Shadow Weaver. And like any song on my writing playlists, it sometimes gets stuck in my head.

Following: 115 (I know this makes me look like an asshole, but let it be known that I follow based on dashboard content, not friend status. Also, I don’t like my dash being absolutely flooded.)

Do I get asks? Yep, usually about my fics, inquiring about various plot points and themes or asking when I’ll be adding more chapters.

Amount of sleep: Ideally about 8-9 but usually it’s more like 6 or 7.

What I’m wearing: Summer PJs (boxers and a tank top) and my sleeping toque. ...Oh, right. That’s the Canadian word for beanie or knit cap. I pull it down over my eyes to block out light because I am a notoriously light sleeper. Currently my landlord is tromping around with elephant feet upstairs, and that is why I am working on this instead of sleeping.

Dream job: Trainer for a pro sports team, or a television writer... or maybe a film editor? Have always loved cinematography, and acting... honestly I’d take any career in film.

Instruments: I mean I sort of played guitar for a bit but I got bored. Never been much of a musical person, not in terms of being a creator or player. I also can’t sing worth shit.

Languages: First language is English. I can speak enough Swedish to get by but I’m a little out of practice, admittedly. Currently learning some Mandarin. I can read/understand a bit of French too, because Canada.

Dream trip: Northern Europe. I’d spend lots of time in Sweden for sure but tour Scandinavia, hit up the British Isles and Germany. Also I really want to roadtrip across Canada and back through the States, on my motorcycle or maybe in an RV.

Favorite songs: “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica has got to be top spot, though I also love the cover by Bif Naked.

Random fact: My pen name/url is a Hunger Games in-joke, a quote from Mockingjay that I feel describes Johanna and The Good Ship Joniss especially well. And no matter what other ships come and go, Joniss is my forever and always otp.

Oh my goodness… I have sooo many songs that I associate with him. Some of them are because I saw music videos on YouTube that had really good songs and I came to associate them with him. Others are because the lyrics make me think of him in some way. There are so many reasons, heh. I will list as many as I can think of below, and I’ll write next to it what aspects of his personality, cause, situation, mindset, or just writing him in general that the song makes me think of (I also will try to find Nuada videos for as many as I can haha):

Jillian Goldin (Aversa) - Kindred (his exile, the Troll Market, empowerment, feeling accepted somewhere and by others, finding strength in solitude and in things that others fear)

Heather Dale - Mordred’s Lullaby (his family, feelings of betrayal, his dysfunctional relationships with both his father and sister, his resentment of Abe, his inability to see what’s coming for him ultimately as far as karma)

Breaking Benjamin - I Will Not Bow (his stubbornness, arrogance, impatience, refusal to change or bend, anger, frustration, exhaustion over dealing with the humans and just being 1000% done with their shit)

Visions of Atlantis - Winternight (solitude, feelings of isolation, separation from family but also resentment towards them, wanting to be accepted but also unwilling to change, having a “storm” inside him, feeling so alone and utterly without guidance, feeling suffocated)

Within Temptation feat. Keith Caputo - What Have You Done (the antagonistic love-hate relationship between Nuada and Nuala, they’re both drawn to each other naturally but at the same time it’s gone too far to be saved, she thinks he can’t be saved and he’s frustrated that she doesn’t support him, but also the references to “fate” and “curse” just makes me think about their soul bond and how neither one of them can escape it, it could have been a good thing but now it’s ruining them)

Skillet - Whispers in the Dark (Nuada’s possessiveness regarding Nuala, his frustration that he doesn’t mean more to her, how uncomfortable his obsession makes her feel, also just his wildness and how fixated it can get, how violent it can be as a driving force for him)

Skillet - Hero (this really makes me think about how villains and anti-heroes never see themselves as villains, he’s the hero of his story, he really thinks that someone needs to make a stand and he’s going to be the one to do it, he thinks he’s doing a good thing he feels, his people need a hero and he’s not going to sit around and wait for one, he’s going to be it)

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters (LP Version) (this song just really makes me think about Nuada’s private thoughts when he’s alone, like what he’s thinking to himself while he trains or something, there’s a sense of a few standing with him, like Mr. Wink and such, and then him rejecting others who don’t, like his family)

Creed - Torn (another song like “Hero” that makes me think about the fact that he thinks he’s doing a good thing, being strong, being brave, making a stand… but also elements of him feeling like he’s been rejected, shoved aside, whether by humans or his family, and he’s like look, someone has to do something and I guess I’m the only one who will)

Linkin Park - Numb (trying to find hope and strength in amongst the feelings of pressure to be like his father and rejection from him and his sister, he’s tired of this shit and he wants to be proud of who and what he is instead of aching for their acceptance… I feel like this is Nuada when he decided to go into exile, when the resentment and pain of feeling rejected by his family was very raw)

Albannach - Ancestors (this just puts me in the mood to write a character like Nuada because it makes me think of the ancient Celts, which then also helps me drift to think of elves… also I feel like if I could put a sound to this “wildness” I keep talking about on this blog that resides in Nuada’s soul, it would be the drums that come in at 1:56, because it’s just such a raw, primal sound and that’s what it feels like to me when I write about it, shrugs)

Pillar - Fireproof (this is Nuada’s COME AT ME BRO song, haha… but seriously, I think of arrogance, pride, just male alpha warrior ego, heh… just this, you can’t stop me and if you try it you will be sorry mentality, but also a feel of a stalemate, that he is as immovable in his views as most humans are)

Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt (trigger warning, this video might be a little creepy for some… but yeah, no real connection to Nuada, but this was the song that they used for the Hellboy II trailer, so it makes me think of it, heh… and I guess the message in the lyrics also is a bit like Nuada, especially since he said in the movie, “let this remind you why you one feared the dark,” this song is very much in that vein… if you don’t understand the German lyrics, try this video here which has them, I just don’t like that version of the song so I prefer the other one for music purposes, and I know what the lyrics are saying anyway heh… just again, it’s creepy for some so watch with caution)

Xandria - In Love With the Darkness (like “Kindred,” this song makes me think of Nuada’s connection to darkness and how it’s not a bad thing to him, the darkness of the Troll Market and his own little home under it, not morally speaking but literal darkness, low light, shadows… he’s kindof made that his own aesthetic and finds solace in it, but Nuala obviously doesn’t agree, heh… my version of Nuada resents humans for losing touch with nature and their more primal instincts, so this song makes me think of how he revels in those things as a form of rebellion, as if to say to them, I embrace the darkness and it embraces me… and rejects you)

Genres I tend to enjoy are show tunes (just in case my Crazy Ex Girlfriend obsession didn’t make that obvious), folk/filk, and metal.  Some particular songs I love:

Mordred’s Lullaby by Heather Dale. It’s dark and hauntingly beautiful. She has a lot of fantastic songs about Arthurian legend, but this one is just ethereal

Senses Capture by Leaves’ Eyes. Aka the “if you interrupt me while I’m listening to this I will fucking stab you” song.

And Then There Was Silence by Blind Guardian which is about the sacking of Troy and every single lyric is fucking amazing. 

Any song from Into the Woods.

I liked this meme because I had to put some more thought into this one than simply putting my iTunes on shuffle. So I’m going to actually link these songs to youtube videos so people can get the full effect of what brings me inspiration! :D

Monster ; Imagine Dragons --every time I hear this song I immediately think of Loki

Underneath ; Adam Lambert --a lot of Adam’s stuff is very up-beat music that is best for a a club, but this song is one I’ve always related to really well and it also makes me think of Loki because of how different he is from his own people. Another Adam Lambert song that makes me think of Loki is Runnin’.

You’re Gonna Go Far Kid ; The Offspring --in all honesty, this is the only song I know by this band, but the lyrics always make me think of Loki and the numerous difficulties he’s faced in his life.

Sissy That Walk ; RuPaul --this one might be silly, but RuPaul music always makes me happy and thinking about drag queens often gives me inspiration for Loki because I feel like he could identify with a lot of queens pretty easy.

This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arm’s Race ; Fall Out Boy --because basically Loki? I just feel like this is such a great description of Loki.

This is Gospel ; Panic! At the Disco --again, because I feel like this relates a lot of Loki’s struggles. This might even be a song Loki could have written on his own (maybe to a different melody but the lyrics regardless).

The Phantom of the Opera Broadway Production ; Andrew Lloyd Webber --in all honesty, I’m not sure why this gives me such inspiration, I just think Loki would enjoy this show and appreciate it’s darkness and uniqueness. It always gets me pumped up to write.

Mordred's Lullaby ; Heather Dale --in truth, I was exposed to this song from multiple videos listed as “Loki’s Lullaby” and it fits for obvious reasons.

Violin covers of pretty much every song. Here’s an example of Centuries by Fall Out Boy covered by Vitamin String Quartet. This is just one of dozens of covers that really inspire me. I could listen to VSQ for hours.

Into the Woods Soundtrack --like PotO, I’m not really sure why this inspires me so much. Maybe I just really like musicals? But I think Loki would appreciate this imaginative and twisted telling of classic fairy tales that are usually kept separate. He’s a storyteller, after all. I think he’d appreciate this for what it is.

Mordred's lullaby, a real blast from the past. I had a massive filk music playlist throughout all of high school, and a full third of it was heather dale music.

Yeah I remember we had this conversation, bwahaha, I discovered her more recently, myself, couple of years ago, she really goes with those lyrics.
