After sunset, the bobcat (Lynx rufus) woke up, walked out followed by rolling on the ground and stretching. Then it walked right up to me, just to the other side of the hedge between us, and peeked through it at me, too close for photos. Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson, Arizona, USA. 24 January 2019. COTH
Febroary day 12 - Bobcat
(Lynx rufus)
Obviously I'm way beyond Febroary but sometimes life gets in the way of your plans. That said I do plan on finishing Febroary so I hope you will continue to support and enjoy the wild cat posts this month!
Don't forget to leave a like so I can reach more people with my illustrations. It means a lot!

It's been a while since we saw a bobcat blurring through the wildway, so this hind quarter, fleeting glance will have to do for now. #wildlife
I spy a bobcat blurring brookside, loping contentedly across a path padded with pine needles. Do you see what I see? S/he’s pretty well camouflaged in the range of rusty hues filling the majority of this image. But look for the lean, well muscled legs, the bobbed tail, and the pointy ears with a spray of white fur behind and below each tuft. Now do you see the bobcat blurring up the trail from…

A friend & I were walking up a slight incline when she came casually strolling out of the underbrush a short distance above me. She was on a trail just below the top of the incline, so the grass obscured her feet. She seems to be ignoring us but she is taking in the air thru open mouth to breath in all the scents surrounding her. This is called the Flehmen Response. She was totally aware of us. She went a few more steps then used a hidden trail to disappear into the underbrush & out of sight. We reached the end of the grass and turned to walk along the edge of the wooded area in her same direction. Thought we'd seen the last of her. But a few feet more & we spotted a cottontail spooked by us go into the brush. A few feet more & we heard a commotion coming right behind us. Startled, we turned around to see the cat chasing a rabbit into the grass, then they both circled back into the underbrush & out of sight. Took maybe 2 seconds in a blur of speed. No time for shots but an awesome sight. We hoped to see her with a meal dangling from her mouth, but it didn't happen. We did run into her a few minutes later, out of the brush again, cutting across the field, no prey, she had been unsuccessful. Took a lot of shots which will take some time to go thru.
