Here he is finally! I've been meaning to draw Lykon since forever and I actually started this drawing... A long long time ago, but when I was about halfway through I had to stop for a while because this was supposed to give off casually happy vibes, and that was really not the mindset I was in at the time. And well, since then nothing has really changed except time, but I have a lot of WIPs and I just wanted to finally finish this one properly ;u;

Andromache is a Greek name, and Andy predated the Scythians by thousands of years. Also "Andromache" means "fighter of men" and the Scythians were famous for their mounted warriors.

So I imagine Lykon dying and reviving and dreaming of these ferocious women, for decades, and of course he needs to call them something even if it's just in his own head, so one of them becomes "Andromache the Scythian" because have you seen her? And then they all finally meet and have a good laugh about it and he and Quynh start calling her Andromache as a joke, and then it becomes a habit, and you know she really kind of likes it, and then Lykon dies, which wasn't supposed to be possible, and she stays Andromache the Scythian because that means he's still part of the team, even the new ones who never met him will carry him with them.

(Now, you might very well ask, why does Lykon name her in Greek? I am working on a headcanon for that as well, one that is at least vaguely historically plausible, because some of us actually know how to use Wikipedia, Greg.)

(Quynh is the only other person in the world who knows Andy's original name. When Andy realizes she's mortal again, she thinks about how it'll be after she dies, no one remembering who she was so long ago, just Quynh screaming her name at the bottom of the ocean with no one to hear.)

The Old Guard Timeline

Rounding, my guess at the timeline for our immortals would look something like below. I added the ‘estimated’ notation when specific dates weren’t referenced in the comics or movie. When ages of the immortals at first death isn’t referenced, I default to 30 years old.:

4710 BCE Andy is born. In the comics, Andy states she is 6732, so give or take some years there for publishing and calendar changes.

4680 BCE Andy becomes immortal (estimated)

1362 BCE Quynh is born (estimated)

1332 BCE Quynh becomes immortal and Andy starts dreaming of her. (estimated) In the comics, Andy states she dreamed of Quynh 1,000 years before meeting Lykon in 332 BCE

1332-332 BCE In the movies: It is insinuated Andy and Quynh are the first to meet. Specific dates aren’t referenced and I’m not as much of a clothing expert to try and guess.

362 BCE Lykon is born (estimated)

332 BCE Lykon becomes immortal and meets Andy at Alexander the Great’s siege of Judea/Gaza

641 CE In the comics: Andy and Quynh meet at Amir bin al-As’s siege of the Byzantine Empire at Alexandria . Lykon isn’t there and they all meet up soon after, though for them soon could be years.

1066 CE Joe is born

1069 CE Nicky is born

1099 CE Joe & Nicky become immortal during the First Crusade

1332-1574 CE Lykon dies. In the comic it states Andy and Lykon traveled together for 2000 years and he died in the renaissance era. In the movie: Joe & Nicky aren’t in the scene where Lykon dies but they talk like they knew him. Given the date of his death, they would have at least dreamed of him.

1575-1650 CE In the Movies: They don’t state exactly when Quynh is lost at sea but widespread witch trials in England occurred between the the late 16th century to the mid 17th century. There are earlier trials in the Middle Ages, though not as common or well documented, and more often for political reasons. The last execution for witchcraft in England was in 1716. In the comics: Quynh is lost at sea, though not in an iron maiden for witchcraft. They are sailing and there is a storm. Joe & Nicky are there but Booker isn’t and a date isn’t specifically mentioned.

1770 CE Booker is born

1812 CE Booker becomes immortal during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia

1994 CE Nile is born

2019 CE Nile becomes immortal (estimated) and meets the gang

*BCE= Before the Common Era, equivalent to BC (Before Christ)

*CE= Common Era, equivalent to AD (Anno Domini meaning ‘the year of our Lord’, colloquially referred to as After Death)

before i say anything i have to say everyone should go read liadan14’s lykon lives au because it is perfect and i want to eat it

okay. my first favourite hc is that lykon is so bubbly and fun and flirty but sometimes he says something that makes you realize how OLD he is and it’s so unsettling. then a second later he turns back into his sweet, funny self and it’s so jarring

i think it’s more jarring because he looks so YOUNG and you don’t expect it. he uses this to his advantage OFTEN.

joe and nicky both had a huge crush on lykon when they first met him and lykon still likes to tease them about this years later (and so does everyone else)

when quynh is around to hear the teasing she likes to bring up the fact that lykon was tongue-tied around andy for at least a year when they first met

lykon is the best person to go undercover as a couple with because he comes up with the most ridiculous backstories and nicknames

lykon, however, prefers quynh as his favourite undercover wife because her ruthlessness is the funniest complement to his bubbliness

lykon lives means quynh never went into the ocean <- how does this happen? idk . you figure it out. if lykon is there, so is quynh.

lykon and quynh are chaos buddies. they pull THE most elaborate pranks

he loves to cuddle <33 they all do but lykon loves to hold and be held and he’s joe’s favourite cuddler when nicky isn’t around

i think lykon would’ve been very good for booker. he would add more of a balance of optimism about their immortality, and it would be harder to slide into cynicism around him. they’d have a very extrovert adopts introvert dynamic

nicky and lykon def have very similar thoughts about fate and destiny. this hc mostly comes from lykon’s only line in the movie (it’s time) and nicky’s certainty in destiny (i used this headcanon a lot in my multiverse fic in the chapter where lykon is there <3)

i do think lykon isn’t very good at being on his own. i headcanon him as always being surrounded by ppl even in his first life, and there haven’t been many stretches throughout his immortality where he’s gone off to be on his own

lykon being around for nile during the movie’s events would be incredible, again, please read lia’s au for this because it encapsulates everything i think would happen between them <33
