This was inspired by a VERY real thing. Mewsikeen LOVES sleeping directly on my chest, with her wee face right up towards my own. It's adorable, until I fall asleep. THEN I wake up with various nightmares of choking or being suffocated. Wheee!
I knew this needed to be a strip, and my GIANT GIRL ADVENTURES collaborator, Sabrina, recommended the ALIEN homage as the "dream", which was far funnier and cooler to draw than just the horror of me choking in my sleep. lol
the 1979 film Alien changed everything in Hollywood, and continues to be one of the most-loved science fiction horror / anti-capitalist movies of all time
in this charming piece (a few signed prints still available on his etsy), Chet Phillips celebrates Alien Day (April 26, because of the spaceship wreck discovered on LV426) through his unique vision
I hope to see lots of cool Alien Day celebratory posts tomorrow!
One more for Alien Day (4/26) - this is technically an Aliens vs Predator piece, but it's one of my personal favorites of my full-color AvP work. This is called I STILL WIN, from 2013. We all know that some Predators are sore losers (and hey, who wouldn't be angry if they'd been glued to a wall and force-fed a bug egg?), and this guy is no exception. There will be a hive-shattering KABOOM. That is all.
I made this with ink, watercolor and colored pencil. The primary purpose for this artwork was to use green and violet luminosity as light sources.
I wish there was discourse about the Right™ Way to watch the Alien movies, to the same degree as how Star Wars fans all have their own opinions on the correct order to watch the movies.
Like, release order or in-universe chronological? Do you include the AVP movies? What about Predator??
My best estimation of the timeline is:
> Prometheus (2012) (opening sequence only)
> Prey (2022)
> Predator (1987)
> Predator 2 (1990)
> Alien vs Predator (2004)
> Alien vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
> Predators (2010) (this one may be contentious as there are a few contradictory statements floating around. It's generally accepted to take place in the year of release.)
> The Predator (2018)
> Prometheus (2012) (the rest of the movie)
> Alien: Covenant (2017)
> Alien (1979)
> Aliens (1986)
> Alien³ (1992)
> Alien: Resurrection (1997)
But let's be real, that makes for a pretty crappy watch order.
