Julie Molina, 3rd generation legacy and senior at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women.

Luke Patterson, prodigy of the Blackthorne Institue for Boys.

The two first met last year during their spring final exam. He flirted. She used him. They both lied. But Luke cheated and Julie hasn’t forgiven it, she definitely hasn’t forgotten, and she can’t quite shake the blow to her confidence the encounter left.

But what was supposed to be a one off, turns out to be a lot more when Blackthorne joins Gallagher Academy for the year and suddenly Luke is everywhere. He’s cocky, charming, and drives her crazy but the look in his eyes when she aces a test or hands him is ass in gym sends butterflies fluttering through her stomach.

Which is stupid because Julie has more important things to worry about. Like passing her classes and getting through her final year. Like why her mothers been acting so weird, stress lining her eyes. Like why exactly the Blackthorne boys are here this year and what exactly happened to Headmaster Covington. Like what she’s going to do after graduation… if they even get there, because the mystery of Blackthorne is far more dangerous than they could have ever guessed.

“You lost?” A voice asked, catching Julie by surprise. She had successfully made it past the red carpet without embarrassing herself and was currently looking for a place in the crowded hotel ballroom to hide.

She turned to be met with four guys standing at two high-top tables pushed together near one of the walls. They were all facing the ballroom, their backs to the wall.

One of the boys, the only one with blonde hair, turned towards the one who had spoken to give him an annoyed look.

“Sorry about him, what he met was, hi, how are you? Do you need help finding something or someone,” Alex, the blonde one said. Julie wasn’t even going to pretend like she didn’t know that the four guys were Sunset Curve, one of her all-time favorite bands.

“Yeah,” Luke, who she was guessing made the initial comment, agreed. He was avoiding eye contact with her, a hint of red running across his cheeks.

“Hi, uh good, I was just looking for-” Julie started to answer before she was cut off.

“Oh wait you are Julie Molina,” Bobby interrupted. “I guess I’ve heard your voice a million times but I’ve really never seen your face. Luke is always- ow!” Bobby shuffled to the side a little bit, away from Luke. Julie suspected that he stepped on his foot.

“I am so sorry,” Alex apologized, sending his bandmates dirty looks. “They aren’t house-trained yet.”

“Your dress is sparkly,” Reggie spoke up, the last of the four to say anything.

Alex put his face in his hand and sighed hard, blowing a few strands of his hair. “He isn’t either.”

“The Pull?” he questions.

Willie nods. “It’s a weird thing that happens with some ghosts. An all-consuming need to be with someone, a deeper instinct than normal attraction or love. It doesn’t happen often, but always between two ghosts, and it’s part of their unfinished business."
