“mi placer, i think i need a map, cause i keep getting lost in your eyes?~”
“oh my gosh, camilo..”

she’s not so much words of affirmation, becuz she doesn’t know what to say a lot of the time
and she does like doing things for u, in terms of acts of service, but she’s a very stressed girl n she needs to focus on herself a lot yk :)

To blame
Isabela knew that Abuelo blamed Luisa for every little thing that went wrong. But it... It wasn't just blaming
For @miracles-and-butterflies AU where Pedro's family got the worst gift combination in his opinion
It was a little bit after midnight. Isabela was never the type to go to bed early. But usually, she stayed inside. After most of the family left, he got a strict schedule and forbade them from going out in the night.
It wasn't like he cared about them, but in the last years, Abuelo's behavior was definitely getting more snappish and strict. Isabela was honestly never on good terms with Pedro, but it was probably better than Luisa. Even if she had to admit that they were getting better over time. Luisa wasn't so loud or demanding now.
Things weren't good. Most of the family wasn't with them anymore. Tío Bruno had left. The entire warm branch had left. Mirabel.... she left too, just in a way darker sense.
Isabela was startled by a quiet, holden back sobbing, that was followed by hissing from the nursery. "Luisa" she got it immediately, not only by the voice but also with the fact that no one else could be in here at such a late time. What was Luisa doing anyway? She didn't sound okay.
Isabela didn't like to admit how concerned she was. Maybe it was because of Mirabel, but she couldn't stand the idea of leaving Luisa unattended. Besides, her sister was always a huge fan of hiding her feelings, not like Isabela could blame her. So this was something strange at least.
"Hey, muscle, what's the problem?" She laughed, peeking through the doorway. Luisa's breathing froze and she almost jumped on her bed in panic.
Isabela's smile faded way faster than it appeared, as she looked at Luisa in the candlelight that was burning on a nightstand next to Luisa. The bleeding bruises on her shoulders shined in the weak light. Tensing her eyes, Isabela was getting a better and better view of what was going on. Luisa's arms were covered in bruises. Some still fresh and bleeding, pink, red, and Luisa's favorite bright purplish color; others were fading yellow, disappearing in another patch. Luisa's arms had more bruises than healthy skin. Somewhere Isabela could spot burning scars, parts of sickingly white skin.
Isabela was never squeamish. She could say she dealt with injuries pretty well. It didn't make her less sick from the sight. Luisa's arms looked more like a painted canvas, decorated in so many colors.
"The fuck happened to you?" She muttered, horrified, stepping into the nursery. Casita's floorboards cracked under her feet. Luisa's eye twitching only made her more tense. "Luisa? What the hell?"
She was horrified in too many senses of this word. Luisa wrapped herself in a blanket, shamingly covering her injured arms. Isabela could hear sweat running down Luisa's face. "It..." Luisa's breathing hitched, her heart was running a marathon at this moment. "Abuelo." She breathed out, looking down.
Abuelo? What did she... Oh, crap no... he didn't... Was he the one to do this?
No, Isabela always knew that their grandfather didn't like Luisa. Coming with a lack of a gift. But this? This wasn't just yelling or pushing the blame for no reason. It was much, much worse than Isabela could ever think of.
Another sob escaped Luisa, as she was trembling. Isabela wasn't good at comforting. What would she have to do now? She awkwardly patted Luisa's spine. "Here... Here..."
Through her barely restrained cries, Luisa muttered an explanation. "It started because others were leaving the family."
Of course, Isabela knew that Abuelo blamed Luisa for the fact that everyone was going away from this hell of a family. He yelled at Luisa for hours when it happened for the first time. Abuelo was blaming Luisa for everything. Even before this all. And she knew that he was blaming Luisa for this too.
Her stomach twitched into a painful knot. She had a goddamn superhearing. Why didn't she know sooner? And even without her gift... Luisa was acting so off all this time. Now, more and more realizations were creeping into Isabela. From being extremely loud, Luisa went to a much more quiet self. She never argued with Abuelo now. It was so obvious that something was going on with her. Yet, Isabela never even think about it.
She wants to throw up. Not from the sight of injuries, but from realization. Isabela had never liked her grandfather, but now.... She would never call this monster "Abuelo" ever again. This bastard... He was the reason why almost everyone left. And he had the guts to blame Luisa and harm her?
Isabela's fists clenched, she growled slightly. Her veins popped out of her neck from tensed rage. "What the fuck is wrong with him?"
Luisa's eyes shifted to the candle flame. "I don't know." She rubbed her upper arm, trying to calm down the itching from her injuries.
Isabela had too many questions. Why didn't Luisa tell anyone? Why would Pedro blame her? She was so mad. Filled with hatred over this.
Luisa still looked tensed, almost on the brink of tears. "It hurts..." She breathed out, leaning against the headboard. And Isabela had no idea of how to react to this. Pedro was a dick.
"I'm going to kill him." Isabela looked at the floor, trying to do her best to hold herself down.
She had lost one sister already. And she certainly wasn't going to lose another one.

“Brunito?”
“Hm?”
“I was thinking,” Alma said. “It’s about time we update the mural. We still need to include you and Tonito.”
Goodness, Bruno had completely forgotten about the mural. He’d need to add himself and Antonio; he certainly needed to update Isabela’s appearance. Honestly, with everything that had happened he just hadn’t thought about it. But as soon as she said it, an old idea came back to him.
“About that,” he said. “I was wondering…Could I add Papá too?”
For a terrible moment, he thought Alma was about to cry. Indeed, her eyes watered and her lip trembled…But she took his hand and nodded.
“Sí,” his mamá said softly. “That’s a lovely idea.”

I wanna do a collection of one shots about the Madrigal kids and their parents when they were all little - inspired by my hc that Isabela got herself tangled up in her vines CONSTANTLY when she was little because I need that in my life.
If any of you guys have any suggestions for chapters - like for any of the kiddos and their gifts or just funny moments within the family, let me know. I would be happy to do them :)

Encantober Day 1 - Sunset
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruno stepped his bare feet down onto the wood of his bedroom floor. He stood from his bed and padded to the center of the room. The air was thick with salt and brine, filling his nose with the sharp, wet scent. He could taste the saltiness on his tongue. The tide pushed in across the floorboards, the chilling foam washing over his bare feet, thinning as it went until it was just a film across the wood behind him. As the water pulled back, it carried grains of wood with it like sand, and Bruno's heels sank slowly into the floor, leaving him standing just a little deeper than he'd begun.  He'd never been to the beach. He'd read about it, but being here was different. The saltiness tasted different than salt tossed into the air, than the rush of dry sand. It all felt thicker, heavier. He used to daydream as a child of visiting the beach, and here he was. How funny that all he had to do this whole time was step out of bed.  Ahead of him Mirabel and Antonio splashed and played in the wake, seagulls dipping down to greet them with harsh calls. Deeper in, Luisa and Camilo swam amidst the waves. Antonio was almost as tall as Mirabel. When had he gotten so tall? ... It was a sunset. Or was it a sunrise? Wait--hadn't it just been night, hadn't he just been in bed? As the last of the orange sun slipped below the line of water, a flash of green raced out like a gunshot, pulsing toward him faster than the tide. WOOSH. He squeezed his eyes shut as it pushed past. Everything tasted green, salt and brine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For @encantober-official Day 1, I took inspiration from a vision-dream that Bruno has in chapter 13 of my fic La Traes. His reimagined bedroom is from my other fic Bruno from Before; you can find its description below the cut!
There were no more treacherous stairs to trek up, nor ghastly images of a haunted prophet to pass to get to Tío Bruno's cave. Now it was just the ornate round door settled deep into the back wall of his room, shadowed slightly by an hourglass shaped entryway that no longer poured out sand. His main room was cozy and warm now, despite the impossibly high ceiling of the tower that rose above it. Natural light filtered in from the round window at the top of the tower like a cathedral, illuminating minute particles of dust and sand that floated lazily through the air. The left side of his room held a small bed tucked against the wall, a desk littered with papers and pencils, and a dresser situated next to the main door. The entire right side of the room was a sitting area, red and green cushioned chairs angled at each other just enough to encourage conversation but not enough to force it, a low table sitting between them. The backs of the chairs were to the center of the room, the chairs positioned to face a wall of bookshelves loaded with not only books but also doo-dads and collected odds and ends that Tío treasured for some reason or another. Two or three of the plants gifted by Isabela climbed precariously from their potted places on the shelves. One entire shelf seemed to be some sort of rat maze. Framed pictures of each and every Madrigal, some current and some yellowed with age, spread across all the walls like butterflies drifting in clustered groupings.  And there, straight across from the main doorway, stood the hourglass cutout and the large round door through that, looking for all the world like nothing more than a particularly interesting closet and not a room where the future sifted into the present.
--Bruno from Before

So I rewatched the movie encanto, and I wondered something.
What would Bruno's kids be like?
Hear me out, Alma and Pedro gave birth to the past (Julieta, who heals past wounds), present (Pepa who can control the weather now), and future (Bruno who can see the future)
Julieta and Augustin gave birth to beauty (Isabella, who makes beautiful flowers and plants), brawn (Luisa who is stronger than ten men), and brains (Mirabel who solved the whole family issues)
Pepa and Félix gave birth to hear no evil (Dolores who hears everything), see no evil (Camilo who can change into anyone), and speak no evil (Antonio who can speak to animals and command them)
But what would Bruno's children be if he had any? What would their life be like in the encanto before and after Bruno leaves? Would he have triplets like he was with his sisters since everyone else is years apart? Who would they get along with? What do you think their powers would be? What would their relationship be with the members of the family? What would the villagers think of them?
I need to know what you guys think. Make your story for these three

Princessa ( a Luisa drabble)
“OOH that slit goes high!” Isabella declared in a mock scandalized tone. As Dolores squeaked and blushed, flashing her leg out from one of Elena’s lounge dresses a few inches too short on the bottom. Enjoying the tinkling sound of crystal beads colliding only audible to her. As the excited sounds of Mirabel’s voice echoed from the closet into the cave-like antechamber of Bruno and Elena’s bedroom.
Elena giggled from her place on the loveseat next to Luisa, as Mirabel brought a handful of dresses to lay on the bed. The trio cooed over the glamorous styles. Deciding which dress would fit whom, and who was going to go next. Of course, these styles are not ones any of the girls would ever wear in the Encanto. But a throwaway statement of the girls being welcome to borrow any dress had a very pregnant Elena nearly dragged to Bruno’s tower to play dress-up. Meanwhile, the seer decided to make himself scarce to ask Antonio how to mediate a serious conflict among the rats.
Luisa and Elena watched the happy proceedings as Mirabel disappeared behind the screen to try on a velvet green dress with faux pearls hanging on the shoulder. The dress she wore the first night Bruno saw her, and her life changed. Instinctively she brought her hand to her swollen belly, happy as can be. She would be unlikely to fit those dresses again, but it was more than a fair trade.
“Whoo!”, Elena exclaimed as she felt a kick. Luisa flinching at her side, immediately reacting with protective concern. Hands at the ready to help where no help could be given.
“It’s alright, I think their ears were burning. I was thinking about them.”
Then another kick gave her a start, and Luisa reflexively checked on Elena again. “Should I get Mom?”
“I’m fine Lu. I think the armistice is over. The twins are taking turns trading fire as wombmates”. The pun perhaps not hitting, as Luisa’s brown eyes didn’t drop a smidgen of concern after the joke.
“I’m really ok, I promise.”
“Sorry, I know it is normal it's just… you’re just so small”. Luisa trailed off almost apologetically, she had been reacting strongly to every kick all morning. Elena put a reassuring hand on her arm, as she leaned back to take pressure off her spine.
“No smaller than Alma was I have been told, and she had three. Besides we know for a fact everything will be ok”. Elena said gently waving to the glowing green tablet of her future family framed above the bed. A rectangle piece of emerald glass save for a small corner cut out to make their wedding rings. A promise for a future that was almost here.
Satisfied Luisa smiled, and they both looked back at the three girls. Mirabel was trying her signature dancing twirl, but the too-tight dress was not willing to accommodate. A clever seamstress, Mirabel on her own embroidered skirt dropped the waist to capture maximum twirl. Obviously glitz and glitter had downsides.
“I’m sorry I’m too short for you to wear my dresses,” Elena offered as she thought about the contents of her closet, and if anything could be used to help her share in this moment. But her mind was drawing a blank.
“It’s alright, I like my practical clothes.” Luisa countered, but Elena didn’t quite believe it.
Luisa’s room at the beginning portion functioned like a gym. A room full of weights and dumbbells that would make Hugo jealous. The balcony like entry, opening up to a beautiful vista of rocky mountains as strong and imposing as her exterior. But like Luisa, her true nature was hidden deeper. A childlike sweetness of a woman denied a proper childhood. Her bedroom full of soft fuzzy rugs, flower linens, family photos and drawings collected on the walls, sheer curtains hanging over her bed, and a pile of stuffed animals she was gifted over the years. Of all his daughters, and despite all appearances, Luisa was Agustin’s little princess.
‘Oh that’s it!’ Elena thought with excitement as she swung her legs up, using the momentum to vault her and her rotund belly forward out of the chair. The sudden motion caught Luisa at such a surprise, she didn’t have a chance to help the petite songbird stand before she was waddling like a petite penguin to her cavernous closet.
“Now it’s not ‘practical’ mind you,” Elena called loudly from the magical closet that was bigger on the inside. Before emerging with a green velvet box. “But I have something perfect for you.”
“When I was young I used to do birthday parties during the day, and lounge at night.” Elena said with a sheepish smile, As she opened the lid. "The dresses are gone, but I couldn’t get rid of this.” With a flourish, she revealed a shimmering costume princess crown. Delighted to see Luisa’s eyes widen at the treasure. “I am a little bit of a pack rat.” Elena said as she gently fixed the crown onto Luisa’s head, pulling her braid to cover the sides. “But perhaps that is why your uncle loves me?”, she joked.
“So beautiful,” Elena said stepping back to admire her lovely sobrina. “It’s yours if you want it.”
The quickness a teary-eyed Luisa stood to tower over Elena to envelope her in one of her signature bear hugs, did give Elena pause as to whether she would pop under that affection. But ever conscious of her strength, Luisa adjusted quickly and gently enfolded her tia in thanks. Before excitedly going to admire herself in the long mirror, the trio of girls chorusing “oohs and awws” as Luisa joined them.
With very little grace, Elena gingerly sat down to watch the proceedings. A tiny oof as she settled into place with a pillow shoved behind her spine.
“I wonder, do I have a little princess of my own?” Elena asked quietly, but a smiling glance from Dolores told her it was still heard.
A tiny kick came in response and Elena leaned back happily.

👑⚔️💙Warrior Princess Luisa💙⚔️👑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🐦Giving her a full body armour is tempting but I opt to give her only a few armour pieces since she's already super strong. I made sure that her design really fits her title as the warrior Princess.

Revenge of the Niblings
In the unlikely case that you haven’t yet read
“A Place for Crows (to rest their feet)” by @acewithapaintbrush
I advise you to do so. Now.
This is artwork for chapter 13 which is a very unlucky chapter for one Señora Pezmuerto...
Artist rant under the cut.
This was so. much. work. (sings: so many kids in la casa Madrigal...)
And when I worked on it, it was often like “omg, will I ever finish? Oh, let’s add some more detail here...” (not helping)
BUT it was also so much fun and I learned a lot and I always ALWAYS wanted to draw a big group picture like that 🙂 Maybe I’ll make it a print and frame it.
PS: There is one easteregg hidden. Can you find it?
PPS: Working title was “Revenge of the Nibs” but I guess ‘nibs’ is in fact not an abbreviation for ‘niblings‘...

This ride goes where?
At first, Luisa thought that she hallucinated. But, under Mirabel's skin was a weak, barely audible pulse. But, just upon getting out, she stumbled into Abuelo.
For @miracles-and-butterflies Based on "Pedro ruins lives au"
TW: Suicide, Abuse.
No, no, oh Dios Mio!
Luisa's lungs could've just blown out from terror. Her heart could beat fast enough for both her and Mirabel
Her younger sister lay on the floor, not moving for a single centimeter. Quiet and still. Luisa's guts twitched upon the sight. The blood dripped down her neck, painting a soft carpet under her body. Luisa felt like throwing up. The room was breathless, quieter than void. Luisa's sight jumped upon the note on the table next to the door. She didn't read it through, her mind went wild just from the idea. A heavy realization that didn't even need a note from the bedside table to be understood.
Luisa's body moved without her will, kneeling next to a tiny girl. A crippling fear twisted her guts, pushing her mind deeper and deeper into the storming water, drowning her under the waves of horrifying sorrow.
"Tic"
At first, Luisa thought that she hallucinated. But, under Mirabel's skin was a weak, barely audible pulse. A last thread to her life that hadn't ripped off. A shaking breath escaped Luisa's lips. Mirabel was alive. Her sister hadn't died. There was a chance to save her. Luisa would make it up, she would do everything. She wouldn't let Mirabel out of her sight, she would heal every wound on her heart, make sure that her sister knew how important she was.
What was she supposed to do? 'Run to the hospital' — her mind realized, pushing her up of bare adrenaline, she was strong and pretty tall. She could make it in time. Luisa picked Mirabel up carefully, not daring to touch the cut.
Just upon getting out, she stumbled into Abuelo.
Her grandfather rubbed his buttoned shirt, annoyed by such a sudden meeting. "Luisa, what are you—" His voice was cut off as he looked up, seeing who was in Luisa's arms. For a brief moment, there was an utter terror in his wrinkly face as his eyes slid upon the blood on Mirabel's neck. "What happened?" He breathed out in terror, his teeth bared, and protruded brown eyes shifted to Luisa's face.
"She... She..." Her voice stumbled, the words died in her throat. Luisa hugged Mirabel closer. She didn't want this, if only she spent more time with her baby sister, maybe nothing of this would've happened. She let Mirabel out and now she was at the brink of death.
She winced as Abuelo grabbed her hand, pulling her away from the staircase in a tight grip. It would be easy for her to break out, but the terror made her knees buckle. Mirabel was bleeding out in her arms, and Abuelo was shaking with anger. Usually, it meant...
Oh... God... no, no...
"Abuelo, please!" Luisa yelled, tearing her vocal cord, begging for him to listen. She stumbled, being thrown into his room. "She's alive! She's still..." A slap on her face made her wince, breathing stopped for a bit.
Abuelo was mad. And Luisa knew it. He was often mad with her, way more often than when he wasn't. But this time it was even worse. Maybe even worse than when Tía and Tío had run away with their sons. His heavy breathing rang across the room. The loud sound of his boots alone was enough to scare Luisa. She knew the pain that would follow. A bursting agony while he hit her again and again.
"She's alive! A- Abuelo, Mirabel hasn't died yet!" She wanted him to listen, he had to let her out, allow her to make things right. He didn't react, too consumed by his own despair over losing yet another family member.
In a rough movement, Abuelo grabbed Mirabel out of her arms, dropping her on the ground. A motionless body tumbled, grasping the dust onto the embroidered clothes. "Take her name out of her mouth!" Abuelo hissed, tightening the rope around her wrists. Luisa felt her breathing getting heavy. She gasped frantically, in a desperate attempt to get enough air to speak.
"She's alive!" Why couldn't he listen to her? Luisa wanted to help, she wanted to save her sister and make things right.
Abuelo didn't flinch, too angry to pay attention to her words. He raised Luisa's sleeve, movement so bad that one of the threads fell off. "It's your fault!" He shouted, gripping her arm painfully, his nails dug into Luisa's bruised skin. "What is wrong with you?! How could you do this to her?"
"I haven't done anything!" That was exactly where she was guilty. If only she was a better sister nothing if this would've happened.
A book, a huge encyclopedia slammed against her skin. Luisa gasped in pain. It wasn't something unusual, but it didn't make it less painful. The blood rushed to the wound, forming a red spot on the fading bruises. Her chest rose, as she struggled in a desperate attempt to break free from the rope. "She needs to get to hospital!" Luisa's voice hitched, pain from another blow spread through her arms. "Please, get her to the hospital! Do whatever you want with me later"
Luisa didn't care how strongly Abuelo would punish her. He was right in one thing, it was her fault and she deserved it. But right now it was about Mirabel's life. Luisa would be glad to beat herself to half-death later if it meant saving her hermanita.
Abuelo did not seem to listen, leading to another hit. "Stop speaking! You're the reason she's dead!" Luisa couldn't argue with this. But she needed to help Mirabel. "Why would she do something like this if it wasn't for you?"
Luisa breathed out in horror. "I don't know?" Another yelp escaped her lips from a hit. Her locals tensed, fighting against this agony that crawled across her limbs. Tears welled up in her eyes. She wasn't sure if it was from pain or from Mirabel's situation.
Pedro's nostrils widened. "She was so ashamed of having such a failure as her sister that she preferred to be dead!" Luisa didn't argue on that. Whatever the reason, she knew that she was guilty. Pedro blinked to hold back the tears that threatened to get out.
"Get her to the hospital, please!" Was her only concern. She didn't want to lose any more time.
"Don't talk to me! If it wasn't for you, Mirabel would still be alive!" Luisa's muscles tensed in terror of his words. Her neck cracked, staying still.
"I'm sorry!" She felt like she was suffocating. The book pushed her deeper and deeper with every second. She didn't mean to hurt Mirabel, she wanted for everyone to be safe more than anything.
"If it was up to me, I would put you in a metal bull. Your favorite Greeks have one, right?"
Her exhaling stopped for a brief second. A metallic bull. One of the horrifying ways of execution in Ancient Greece. Luisa pulled her legs closer trembling in horror. She always knew that Abuelo didn't like her, but now he confirmed that he would gladly put her to the most painful death possible. Even Pedro himself looked shocked for a moment. A brief realization that it was a bit too far among the rage he felt. But it didn't stop him.
Her heart felt like it was squeezed, crushed inside her ribs. Her voice cracked, pressed down by screaming.
The blows climbed from her arms up to her shoulders. Sometimes they lay upon other bruises, sometimes her clear skin was affected too. Abuelo's anger boiled inside of him, making it impossible to speak through his walls. Luisa had no problem with the fact that Pedro blamed her. She blamed herself too, for not being a good sister. She didn't protect Mirabel. But she wanted to fix it. Lord, just give her another chance. She would do anything for Mirabel, make it so her hermanita wouldn't be so ashamed of her.
And she kept begging, trying to get another chance. Luisa couldn't stand the idea of losing Mirabel.
It took so long, before Abuelo calmed down a little, allowing Luisa to get out. She gasped, rubbing off the blood from her shoulders. It was painful as hell. Nothing new if Luisa was honest. It wasn't important right now. She needed to get Mirabel to the hospital.
Luisa carefully picked up her baby sister, gently squeezing her pale from blood loss wrist. She will be fine... Luisa will fix it.
There was no pulse this time.
