A thought that's been on my mind lately is you never actually know how much someone loves you. Now I don't mean they secretly hate you or something like that. No. I mean you will always underestimate it because you don't hear their thoughts.

Think of all the times you think about those you love and don't tell them. Or how you talk about them to others in loving ways that they don't see. Or when you reflect on your precious memories of them. Or any other situation where you may hold back on sharing your love for them directly or express it elsewhere.

Also, how subtle some expressions of love can be, especially nonverbal forms, plus all the times acts of love go awry. Like they care about you so they say something hurtful by accident when trying to look out for you. It's easy to underestimate how much others like you or care about you or think about you. Especially if getting caught up in negative experiences or self-doubt.

Some people express love more openly or directly than others. Some people express it in ways you may not understand. But the point is, you never really know how much you mean to someone.

3. Who was your favorite OC in this fic?

I know this was my question, but it's honestly a hard one. 🤣 I think Grymir might have been my favorite. If anything because he reminded me of a meeker, younger Ori. I like to think that after his prison sentence that Ori takes him under his wing and gets him away from corrupted guilds.

4. What was your favorite scene to write?

You know, I was reading back through trying to figure that out, and I think I had the most fun with the scene before the "fake duel" in Chapter 5 where Oin goes off on Bilbo about being an idiot, and Fili can't quit laughing at the idea of Bilbo being intimidating:

“Alright then. Now listen, this is only going to work if everyone is sold on the bluff which means Fili, no snickering. Oin, you must declare me a fit bill of health before the Guild. And Thorin...really just remaining calm the whole time will go a long way towards helping me out.”

Bilbo was immediately met with very vocal protests. Fili seemed to think it was outrageous of him to assume the prince would ever laugh during a prank. Thorin was heavily offended that he was given instructions at all. And Oin was by far the loudest, exclaiming that under no circumstances would he ever ‘lie about a patient’s health and break his oath’. 

“Well then I guess you’ll have to deal with me spewing blood shortly because the only way I’ll not be dueling is if they buy your lie!” Bilbo snapped at the healer.

The dwarves all silenced around him with Oin giving him a hard look. 

“Contrary to popular belief, I don’t actually want to fight today.” Bilbo stated with some semblance of calm. “If you want the same, then you’re going to have to play the part of overconfidence. Pretend that I was Dwalin who had been challenged.”

Fili burst into laughter, and Bilbo buried his head in his hands. He was doomed. Groans went up as many glared at the blonde dwarf.

“Okay, so you may have a point.” The prince conceded. “But never fear. I’ve gotten it all out of my system now.”

6. What was your favorite piece of dialogue?

Okay, this was easy. 🤣

“Yes.” Bilbo agreed with a nod. “You must understand that to me, none can match Thorin Oakenshield. The prince who led his people to refuge. The smith who slaved against starvation. The warrior who fought so bravely in the Battle of Azanulbizar, and the king who slew Azog, enemy of the sons of Durin. You are a mountain of your own stretching towards the sun. My accomplishments are but shadows to your brilliance.”

I wrote this line before I had even completely finished the first chapter! 😍 I knew this was exactly the end game, but it was the "how to get there" that had a few twists and turns. 😆

I took my cat for a walk today! I have a stroller for him and everything. It was finally warm enough and sunny, so we went out for a bit, just like 15 ish minutes. But it helps me cause sun and fresh air, and he just adores being outside.
