Oliver Wood is NOT a Good Captain

“Bad news, Harry. I’ve just been to see Professor McGonagall about the Firebolt. She — er — got a bit shirty with me. Told me I’d got my priorities wrong. Seemed to think I cared more about winning the Cup than I do about you staying alive. Just because I told her I didn’t care if it threw you off, as long as you caught the Snitch on it first.”

But even Quidditch had lost its fun. The rest of the team wouldn’t speak to Harry during practice, and if they had to speak about him, they called him ‘the Seeker’.

The Gryffindor team visited again on Sunday morning, this time accompanied by Wood, who told Harry, in a hollow, dead sort of voice, that he didn’t blame him in the slightest.

I get the impression that fandom thinks Wood is a loving, good captain but he really is not. In isolation, the third snippet could be read as a joke (they did lose the match after all and Wood is quidditch obsessed). However, when you look at Oliver in totality, he shows time after time that he cares more about winning than Harry's safety and is perfectly ok with throwing Harry under the bus.

Overall, contrary to popular opinion, the Gryffindor team sucks. I am not talking about the individual players, but the whole team. Hermione disses Draco by saying that the lions got on their team by talent (screw Hermione btw, what does this annoying girl know about talent?)...but without Harry, they seem to be a bunch of losers.

Remember Minerva broke the rules for Harry to join the team as a first-year. Do you think she would have done so if the team was truly competent? The Quidditch World Cup in book 4 proved that a team can have a crap seeker and still dominate/win. The lions literally needed favouritism/nepotism to have a chance at winning. Let that sink in. But Snape is totally the biased teacher around here (sarcasm)

In either book 1 or book 2 (I think book 2), Harry missed the match and the team had the worst defeat in over 300 years! Further proof that these people suck without "chosen-one in more ways than one" Harry. By the way, Slytherin has reserve players. Does the Gryfinfor team have reserve players? Because I never see any. In book 6, when Draco and other Slytherins are conveniently out sick (to give Ron a chance at winning because the golden trio never seems to have to earn anything), they have backup players ready (eg that Harper guy who played Seeker in Draco's place). However, in book 5 when Harry and the twins are suspended, the team needs to hold tryouts to get new players. No backups in sight.

In book 3 when Harry gets his firebolt, the team (the entire school minus Slytherin house) gets all horny for the broomstick. "We have a firebolt!" basically reduced Harry's skill and importance to the team to his broomstick. These people don't care about Harry. Yet, it's such a crime when Draco and his team got new broomsticks in book 2! Gryffindors == Hypocrites.

I don't see much of Marcus Flint but from what I have read, I like him more as a captain. When the Gryffindor team tried to group assault a 12 yr old Draco after calling Hermione a mudblood (should have just called her a "bitch" or "hag" instead and saved everyone the need to virtue signal), Flint immediately threw himself in front of Draco to protect him. Remember these are older students trying to beat up a tiny 12 yr old because of something he said. The Weasley twins are BEATERS - just the 2 of them alone could have really hurt Draco. Compare this to Oliver who doesn't give a damn about Harry being hurt as long as he wins.

Also, when Draco is an idiot and loses to Harry in book 2 (of course, the only time someone has a better broom than Harry, Harry wins because that person decided to fool around despite wanting to play on a quidditch team before Harry even knew what the sport was), the Slytherins don't ostracize Draco the way the Gryfindors ostracized Harry when he lost house points.

In a nutshell: Marcus Flint >>> Oliver Wood & Gryffindor team sucks.

PS. If you are a Draco anti or Hermione stan or any other kind of Gryffindor stan that thinks Draco deserved to be group assaulted by bigger, older, stronger students because of calling Hermione a slur in response to her insulting him first, just ignore this post and move on. Unlike you and a good chunk of the HP fandom, I don't get sadistic pleasure from seeing Draco constantly (group) assaulted for saying mean words to characters who had contempt for him first.

it seems just - and now - now its awmost midnight a week later - i cant remember - i kinda sucked last week yah - oh yah i members now - didnt suck even a little tonight - made 1 good decision - so a couple that is also a band and nice peeps - really nice - did the host mc thing - there is an amp a srsly good one i could have used - btw i should hav diss claimed at the beginning - wait maybe - i plan on some poetry about the moon - so maybe u should just scroll down till the words look poetic and start readin then - i could post the poetry separately but that wood not b any funatall

so post mortem - awready wrote something along the lines of i killed - i did srsly for 1 song - lykke li side band liv hurts to liv - had played w arrangement just a bit this morning - nothing major - might have incorporated quick time some - ezily the best vocal performance course it aint recorded it dont matter - i stayed on mic mostly - didnt forget words - only 1 line and not on this one mumbled cuz couldnt wrap my mouth around - 1 bad chord also not on this - huge response mid song at he line “ everybody wanna be somebody long as it aint me “ huge applause b4 last note wrung out - so the good decision - things run late - 2 many performers wanna - small technical probs including cords shorting - plug my own cord into guitar - straight into pa - setting up amp could take minutes and something to go wrong yah - and there are 2 huge ego reezons i wanna play well - the kind that fuck me up often - the most interesting man in the world - according to cinder - a neighbor -told me he was interested in coming to madrone and actually showed - he has never heard me not a note - i didnt want the awkwardness of sucking and him having to pretend he liked it - a much loved performer who only plays madrone a few times a year - the open mic anyway - his band gets paid gigs at madrone and the other bars owned by same person /ppl and other places - few years ago they headlined Slims - wait is slims still open - anyway one of the top clubs in sf for live national/international music - so he played - just b4 me - the last time i saw him wuz the 1st time after seeing each other albeit infrequently - for years now - that we spoke and that i knew he actually listened to me - i wuz ok that time but ego and started overplaying to impress - so i had chosen songs that were more vocal oriented before going - added an improvised blues in am to facilitate a harmonica player - martian mike - he actually added - if i had the amp - and it had every sound effect known to man - i prob wouldnt have resisted the urge to over the top - so after finished had nice mutual admiration mutual love of madrone conversation - he video’d at least part of my set for utube on his channel and maybe his bands channel as well

“Essay” 1.0 Rhacks to Riches

So I decided this should be a good start as any. There’s quite obviously a very popular (Dare I say The most popular) ship in the Borderlands Fandom that I called Rhack. Comprising of Rhys from the Tales from the Borderlands Telltale series and Handsome Jack from... The Borderlands series! I personally just don’t see their potential relationship as lovers to be viable or healthy for either of them and am just writing about why i see it like that because I haven’t seen anyone else mentioning this. I am not against people shipping this but I feel that they might be missing some points about these two characters that make any relationship they’re going to engage in to be abusive.

Don’t read if you want to remain ignorant about these facts or ship Rhack so strongly that it offends you to see criticism of this ship. Also Spoilers for all BLands Games Btw.

Here we go!

So I want to open this in saying that Rhys was written to be a very big parallel to Jack, both in personality and appearance. I’ll just list their parallels to save time and space.

They are both company men,both of Hyperion.

Known for being attractive and advantageous because of it. (Great Hair, heterochromia)

Same vaguely white race. (Not important to the relationship but adds to fandom popularity. Tea.)

Contain a mean streak when it comes to screwing over their superiors for money or power.

Both are self absorbed, prideful and arguably vain.

Both are hackers, something that is sometimes downplayed with Jack but was notably his own beginning in Hyperion.

Awful fashion sense. Ex. Rhys’s underwear tie and Jack’s thousand layer wardrobe. I refuse to diss Jack’s sneakers and Rhy’s socks but y’all can go off.

Same gray morality basis (Depends)

Both have a strength of being a charismatic negotiater (But not really)

Now with some of these parallels laid out, It would seem that these two would get along and possibly be romantically inclined towards each other but I mus stress another point. Rhys IS NOT A FULL PARALLEL TO HOLO/DEAD JACK. He is more close to being a representation of what Jack was when he was younger and had not yet made all the wonderful decisions that led to the events of the other Borderlands games.

The typical canon Rhys (By Telltale Popular choice Rhys) is a kinder, (Somehow) More down-To-Earth, less egotistical and friendlier person than Jack had almost ever been. He is a protagonist in Tales mainly because he is representative of what Jack could have been had he chosen a more “moral” path through life. Which is why the game ends with him receiving a vault treasure but ALSO inheriting Atlas from Jack, as a kind of teaser to the question of “Will Rhys rule like his hero had?”. Not to mention the entire last convo he had with the handsome devil.

The Differences

Rhys sticks by his friends and trusts them in moments of doubt. As seen with Fiona in the Atlas lab, Loaderbot in prosperity junction, Sasha in the Atlas Atrium, and Vaughn with literally the whole story. Also you can include his trust in Jack right in here too.

Jack loses allies constantly by alienating or killing them. As seen with the poisoning of Wilhelm, a very loyal employee of his, his dismissal of Nakayama despite him being a brilliant scientist, the murder of Felicity (Justifiable,however) and whatever went on between him and Moxxi (Might delete later this is a tricky one that I think Moxxi was in the wrong on and can be claimed self-defense by Jack but like? Facts??? BLAHGGH) Not to mention the abuse of his own daughter that he was blind to simply due to sheer dumbassitude and self-serving ego on his part.

Rhys accepts the mistakes of his friends and can take apologies from them. As seen with his semi-betrayal from Vaughn

Jack literally kills a whole ass team of his own scientist that he saved in the first place simply because they *MIGHT* turn against him.

Rhy’s kinder and more sociable personality conflicts a lot with Jack’s harsher view of how he has to keep people away due to previous trust issues and how it is absolutely okay for him to use people to further his own agenda that serves only himself. Not to mention that Rhys does NOT vibe with Jack’s sadistic sense of humor and repeatedly calls him a psychopath for killing people in front of him.

This comes to a head obviously when Jack wants to put a metal skeleton inside of Rhys and Y’know, take over both his body and mind.

Which brings me to the most convincing part of this argument against Rhack.

JACK WOULD ABUSE THE HELL OUT OF RHYS AND HAS TRIED TO KILL HIM MULTIPLE TIMES.

Jack is a manipulative person, he admits to it himself when he begs Angel not the kill herself, She tells the Player Character that he is emotionally manipulative and warns you against it and Rhys recognizes that the most manipulative people in Hyperion, Including HUGO VASQUEZ, were inspired by Jacks tactics.

Keep in mind that one of Jack’s first actions towards Rhys was trying to strangle him for stumbling over his words, before he realized he was a holo-gram.

Then Realizing that he cannot simply kill Rhys with no repercussions as he would normally be able to, of course Jack turns to his next best option- Leading Rhys into situations where he could either

1. Get out of his head (The office, Atlas Labs) Succesful btw

2. Kill him. (Indirectly, abandoning him with Vallory, where Rhys had a very high Probability of dying. Directly- Attempting to shove a robot skeleton into his body, killing Rhys and allowing him to control his body or Literally just trying to choke him out with his own hand, actually an act of desperate and rageful suicide as well.)

Most scenes where Jack is getting along with Rhys are that way because Jack is getting what he wants or he is trying to manipulate him into well... Getting what he wants. Otherwise Jack is sometimes downright rude, mean or verbally abusive to Rhys. I guess i should mention that Jack also talks to him for the sheer shits and giggles of it at times.

When Rhys actively rejects Jacks offer to rule together, is really where Jacks self-absorbed and hateful attitude towards Rhys comes out too. Just. He gets so fucking angry for almost no reason. Jack cannot give up the mantle of CEO to Rhys and reveals that all the stuff about training him to be a successor was all bullshit and it’s true purpose was to get Jack an immortal body.

So there you have it. I’ll come back and edit this but for now this my analysis of why I cannot stand seeing cutesy-feelsy fanart or otherwise of these two. Because they are downright incompatible and would be an abusive relationship if they ever were together. Feel free to complain and continue shipping whatever you want however! I needed to get this out.

Also as an after-note and side commentary: I sound anti-Jack but I really stan him, he’s just an asshole. Rhys is a good guy but i don’t even like him that much, my fav’s Fiona, lol. My one true love from Borderlands as a whole is Nisha tho. R.i.p. I miss you, you funky little cowgirl.

SEASON 3 PREDICTION

All right, let’s not get into the whole chit-chat and let’s fricking do this because I have like a few days and I’ve been procrastinating but it’s time for action.

So, season 3 is very highly anticipated by the Voltron community. There have been so many leaks, it’s been a roller-coaster, and I honestly can’t wait to see what the creators will do with the series. But, in the end, I’m just too impatient to wait that long, so I’m going to try and predict what will happen in Season 3. Can I accurately predict an entire season? Probably not. Am I going to try? Obviously. Why else would I make this? Okay, I’m rambling, let’s do it.

First of all, the Lions. Since Shiro is gone (but never forgotten), Voltron’s order will need to be changed. Of course, there’s some leaks and confirmation already (I’m late lmao) but in the end this is most likely, if not yet officially confirmed, what is going to happen- Keith will move to Black, Lance will move to Red, and Allura will begin to pilot the Blue Lion- just like the older series in which Legendary Defender is derived from.

Of course, let’s devote a little bit to talk about the Lions themselves. Throughout the series, we’ve known that the Lions have a mystical bond with their pilots that “Cannot be forced,” according to Allura in the first episode. A pilot’s quintessence (their spiritual energy, or something along those lines) must mirror their Lion. Therefore, we can assume that a Lion’s pilot is someone who has been chosen, not forced or just ‘oh, I was there so let’s do it’. It’s something that cannot be forced and is inherent in the beginning.

So, if this logic is true, then that means huge trouble for Voltron. Because all of the paladins were uniquely chosen for their specific Lion; no one else could pilot each other’s Lions like their original pilot can. Which is why I think that Voltron this season will be (statistically) much weaker than in season 2. Not only because the team has been shifted and changed, but also because the Lions cannot truly bond with their new pilots. Again, a pilot’s quintessence must mirror their Lion’s own. Lance’s quintessence probably won’t mirror Red’s, and Keith’s probably won’t mirror Black’s. Allura, having her life force tied to all the Lions, might have a bit of an easier time, but I’m going to touch on that in a little bit.

Because they might have a harder time bonding with their Lions, Lance and Keith might get high-strung emotion-wise. Well, I’ll get exactly to what this will mean later, but we can expect that they will be some of the most high-strung of the team.

Now, Blue. Throughout the entire series, Blue has often been described as ‘the friendliest of the Lions.’ She’s the most accepting of new pilots, the most devoted, and generally the most accepting. By this logic, wouldn’t it be easy to say that she’ll take it all in stride? Hell no!

Because throughout the series we have seen that the Lions are incredibly devoted to their pilots. Hell, Red will freaking destroy everything in the general vicinity if Keith does so much as stub his toe! Red’s probably not going to like this change one bit, but I’m gonna touch on that in a second.

Anyway, Blue might not seem to be as devoted to Lance as Red is to Keith (Blue’s never blown shit up to help Lance), but I feel like she really is. I mean, she waited for over 10,000 years on Earth, in a cold, dark cavern, patiently waiting for Keith to bring Lance over so he would become her paladin. If that’s not devoted, I dunno what is. And in the end, I feel like Blue is devoted to Lance just as much as Red is to Keith, it’s just shown in a different way. Which is why I think Blue won’t like having to give Lance up.

In one of the trailers and leaks (spoilers, btw, but then why would you have clicked this? You should have expected spoilers??), Allura is shown to be walking away from Blue, clearly frustrated, until Blue lowers her barrier. Of course, this shows that eventually Blue accepts Allura, but I don’t think Blue would have done it willingly.

Because Blue might be friendly, open, and accepting, but this is her paladin we’re talking about. None of the Lions, or their paladins, wants to accept this whole situation. And if Red is gonna be really impulsive and Black’s going to stay in a lump on the ground, not accepting anything, then why can’t she not want to change paladins?

Just a cool thought about Blue.

Okay, now going on to Red. How’s she going to react to this? Well, throughout the series we’ve seen Red continually destroy shit to get to Keith. Clearly, she loves her paladin and would do anything to keep him safe. So him having to change Lions and leaving her with someone else? Awful, horrible. Betrayed. Red’s not going to like that one bit.

But what about Lance? How will he feel about this whole thing? I mean, if we’re going to say that Red’s not going to like it, how will Lance feel having to switch Lions with Keith? Keith, the one person who Lance has always been compared to. First at the Garrison, and now by Red. Lance might feel inferior to Keith, left out, a replacement. If the writers want to crank up the angst, then this is one of the things to do it on.

But in the end, I feel like the Lion’s reactions to all of this is something that could be really interesting in the series.

Okay, but with the new trailer (fucking dreamworks, I have to keep editing this shit because you can’t keep your pants on) it fucking shows that the paladins are still in their original lions. Like wtf, stop fucking turning all of my theories down and just let me live ;n;

Okay, but anyway: Since this new trailer happened, we can assume that the Lion swap is going to happen somewhere in the middle of the season, since in the beginning it’s shown that the paladins are still trying to stay in their actual lions. Just thought you would want to know that.

Now, let’s talk about the paladins themselves.

Now, the paladins are obviously going to be messed up by this. I mean, Shiro, their leader, basically disappeared like a magical unicorn?? Like?? What??? Why would you leave your children like this????

All jokes aside, they’re all obviously messed up. However, I feel as though Lance, Keith, and Allura in particular will be some of the most. Not that I’m dissing Hunk, Pidge, and Coran; it’s just that they’re not the ones who have to drastically change Lions (or in Allura’s case, begin to pilot one.)

Allura will be forced into a completely different situation than she’s used to. I mean, she’s always been known to be a strong, confident leader, helping train Voltron but not really interacting with it. Because, in the series, Allura doesn’t really try to interact with the paladins on a more personal level. While the paladins are becoming friends, working as a team, she just..kind of stands off to the side, leading but never interacting. She doesn’t interact with them in the same way that they interact with each other, putting them on different levels of personal bonds.

Because of this, I feel as though piloting Blue will be harder for Allura. For one thing, she’s never really tried to bond with the paladins, and, as a result, will have to learn to work with them not only as teammates, but as friends. Another thing, she’s always been the leader; the other head of Voltron, if we’re going to go into metaphors. Where Shiro carried out the plans and helped the paladins bond, she was the one behind the plans; keeping the mission on track and forming valuable alliances with the various planets they’ve saved. Since she is now a paladin, she has to get used to being in a different position; a team member, not just a leader. She’s floated above a lot of the paladin affairs throughout the series, and now she has to learn how to be a paladin. How to work with others, how to form Voltron with them. I feel as though this will be a good chance to have some more character development for her, allowing her to grow and accept that she doesn’t have to always be a strong leader; she’s allowed to help as well.

Now, moving on to Keith. Of course, Keith had almost an entire season devoted to growing out his character, revealing stuff about him, and all that stuff. Of course, this is going to hit Keith hard. Throughout the series, we’ve been shown that Shiro and Keith have a very close bond, Keith even going as far to say that he sees Shiro as a brother. Now, keep in mind this is Keith we’re talking about. Keith, while having a personality and not being an emo baby, as well as having a bond with the other paladins, has also been shown to not trust easily. He’s very loyal and very impulsive, but he takes his bonds seriously and is not willing to forsake them for anything. So, showing that Keith sees Shiro as not just a friend, but as a brother, is a huge indication of their closeness.

From what we’ve seen in the trailers and leaks (*glares at Dreamworks*), Keith is very upset about this. From the “hey man” moment to the image of him stalking off from an important meeting, as well as him blowing up at everyone in the newest trailer, he’s been hit hard. He’s even more angry and impulsive now than he was before (if that’s even possible lmao).

But I feel as though as the season continues, he’ll begin to mellow out. Now that Shiro’s gone, he’s got to step up and be the leader (even though he doesn’t really want to.) I feel like this is also a good way for Keith to get some more character development.

Now, Lance. Lance is a character beloved by the fandom, for hundreds of reasons. However, throughout the series he’s always been shown as a ‘comedic relief’ character with little to no development. The closest we see to any insecurities or deeper-laid fears is in the episode “Beta Traz”, where he laments about ‘what if he’s just a seventh wheel, useless and alone?’ Now, I love Lance. He’s a nice character and he reminds me of Sokka from ATLA, but that’s not the only reason for it.

However, getting back to the point, the creators have stated that season 3 will give Lance and Hunk character development, something that the legs of Voltron have been severely lacking. I touched a bit on Lance’s insecurities about his relationship with Red, or at least a possible route in order to overcome his insecurities, but I want to expand on some parts of that.

Lance is a family man. He’s been confirmed to be the youngest in a very large family, with older siblings and a niece and nephew. He’s clearly a very family-oriented person, a ‘great uncle’ (according to the creators), and generally a deeper person than most people give him credit for. But I feel like some of Lance’s better characteristics will begin to shine in this season, offering us (the fandom) the opportunity to see how deep his character really is. Lance’s insecurities might come a bit into play here, but so will his family characteristics. Voltron is...kind of like his family now. They’re all a bunch of people out in space, and you know that Lance really cares about him. All of them.

Now, before I go into this next part about how I feel Lance will help people throughout this season, I want to put out a disclaimer. Since I want to be serious about this and not take all of this information and lean it towards proof for any particular ship, I’m not going to accept any of this information as any kind of relationship. I know a lot of you guys ship Klance, Sheith, or Hance, or a lot of other ships, but I want to keep this information neutral. I understand you guys like your ships and want them to be more clearly stated in the narrative, but at this point I don’t want discourse of any kind on this essay. Therefore, this is going to be ship-free. If you were hoping for no ships, then congrats! You’ve found it! If you were hoping for a particular ship, then I’m sorry to disappoint you. You can choose to process this information in any way that you want, but for the purpose of the essay this will not be inherently any kind of ship. Back to the essay.

All right, back to the essay.

Lance is going to get some development in the season, whether I predict it accurately or not. The way that I see it is that he will help support the team in their time of need, helping to keep them up and making sure they’re alright. This was confirmed in the famous “Hey man” scene, wherein Lance was one of the first to comfort Keith after the discovery of Shiro’s disappearance.

I feel like some of the paladins might have a breakdown, and Lance and Hunk will be there to comfort them. Because they’re the legs of Voltron, and it’s their job to support. But, in a sort of metaphor, the legs of a human aren’t as appreciated as the arms or the head. And if you think about that, it’s kind of true. But now, Hunk and Lance are definitely going to get their character development.

All right, now let’s talk about Lotor.

Lotor is going to be...interesting. I don’t know very much about what he was like in the original series (all I know is that he was a walking shitpost who has an obsession with Allura because she looks like his dead mom??? Like?? Wtf??? Go see a counselor??? Do you need help???). However, from what we’ve seen with his voiceovers and what the creators have leaked, he’s going to be a really formidable foe.

From what I’ve seen in the trailers, he will certainly be more crafty. He outsmarts the paladins and is always ‘one step ahead of them’. Therefore, he’s going to pose more of a threat.

Concerning his relationship with Allura, I’m not quite sure. From what I’ve heard, it seems as though Allura might know him from before she was thrown into a cryo-pod, but this is just me reaching for something. Lotor doesn’t give any indications of his relationship with Allura from his monologue, so I can either assume that they do not know each other, or they do. It’s really up to the series lmao.

His generals are also very interesting, but I’m going to touch on the most interesting one in a second. What will they pose? What’s their story? I don’t have many answers, but I’m eager to find out.

Now, let’s talk about the most interesting one.

Now, in the generals, there is one Galra lady who bears a certain resemblance to Keith himself. A lot of people have said that she’s Keith’s mom, but others have stated that she’s Keith’s sister. Now, from her age and the way she looks, I am more strongly inclined to believe that she’s Keith’s sister (if anything). However, this could just be me reaching.

Because really, we don’t actually know Galra’s life-spans. Zarkon’s survived for thousands of years, but Haggar is Altean and did almost the same. Is this an indication that Galrans can survive for thousands of years? Personally, I head-canon that Galras have a longer life span than human beings do, so it could be possible for her to be Keith’s mom if this theory is fact. But, I can’t really say much more about that subject.

Now, let’s get to the juicy part. Shiro and Matt.

Basically, Shiro’s gone. He’s run off again, that little shit. But where did he go? That’s the million dollar question.

Going along with what the show has laid out, there are 2 places he could be in the series:

In the astral plane

With Matt

Now, the Astral Plane (for those of you who aren’t familiar with the name, it’s the place Shiro went to when he was talking to Black where he had that epic fight with Zarkon) is a mysterious and unknown place. All we really know about it is that it’s connected to the Black Lion, if you die in it you die for real, and it can be accessed through a strong bond with the Black Lion.

Having Shiro end up there would be a neat way to not only give us more information about this mysterious place and what mysteries it holds, but also a way to securely tuck him away for the purpose of the narrative.

But, having him with Matt is also interesting. Because if that happens, Matt is also a part of season 3, which causes some interesting things to happen. Matt, being the object of Pidge’s search, would be interesting to have him be introduced so soon. Because (and this might be the angst talking) I kind of want Matt to be introduced a bit later, for that sweet angst amiright lmao.

Anyway, I can’t predict what’s gonna happen in Season 3, but this is all I have. I wrote this in like hours with a huge headache so you’re welcome lmao. Have a nice day!

SMTM6 ep.7 Comments and Highlights

I’ve already seen half the diss battles. I really think they should have just done all 1v1 like they did in previous seasons. It would have been better. IT’s really to much to have to focus on 2 opponents for each person in a 2v2. That’s why I think the 1v1′s were universally better. You can really take your time and research that one person as well as not have to share the insults with your partner because if you already said something, when they say it it loses some of it’s power and vice versa.

Hanhae’s one of the only people who hi-fived the fans when he came out! Just wanted to note that.

Hangzoo looks like a whole ass gangster. If Los was the street level gangster than Hangzoo is the crime boss

Ja Mezz’s “HaHAAAA” man I wish I was good at gifs so I could make one of that.

Maniac is so funny. I hope he goes on more shows after this.

I haven’t seen Maniac vs Hanhae besides like the first 10 seconds or so. So I’m watching that one pretty much blind.

Woochan has been throwing shade (not even shade really but full out insults) this whole time and I’m only 13 minutes into the episode

I haven’t seen Black Nine v Ryno either. And this beat is hard as FUCK. I’ve seen so many people get dissed to this beat (Survival of the Fittest by Mobb Deep)

His whole rap was already given away during the introduction? So from that point all he was doing was repeating the same shit? I mean, it was good rap wise but I’ll have to see Ryno’s. Either way this is a lesson in not giving your whole rap away in the introduction. Also, if you’re on the receiving end you shouldn’t have that look on your face, you gotta look more unfazed but still serious enough to make the other person shook. Ness did that with Young B and now Ryno did it to Black Nine.

This is what I was talking about with Asol a couple days ago, half her rap is about feminizing the other team in an attempt to basically call them weak or lesser so it’s like????

I think Asol and Wonaje did better in the diss but Woochan freestyled and STILL didn’t fuck up so that was dope.

Yeah, Hanhae won that. The beat choice was trash though. I think he could have chosen something different and his rap would have sounded better. The content is good but I didn’t like the actual sound.

One Sun needs to make a song with that “Let Me Do It Again~” line as a hook or something because that shit was lowkey fire lol

It’s ep.7 and Dean has still barely had any talking time or screen time. Dean fans got robbed lowkey. All that hype just for him to be almost non-existent

Hash Swan isn’t a battle rapper but he does have a slick mouth? Like he says some reckless shit in his songs sometimes so I know he’s gonna do pretty okay in the battle...whereas Junoflo...hmmm (I’ve already seen this battle btw. But this was pretty much my line of thiking before I saw it so I’m putting it here)

OK Hangzoo called him a child, the a pedo (this was just lyrics from Hangzoo not something Mezz has actually shown himself to be, it matched with Zoo’s next bar), said he got outrapped by No:el and Young B, said his hair was trash (thanks Hangzoo!), and more. He really wrecked him like 2 or 3 bars. He had wrecked him long before he got half way through the list. lol

DoPark should have eliminated Woodie instead but of course they probably wanted him for the later stages.

Team DD been making bangers. People slept on them but I think Team DD might win if they keep it up. They have a cool style and some great rappers with nice feels.

Part 2: The Process: Bias, Accommodation, Permission, Tickets, Visa, Letters—In that order!

Now that I was an established and a very public Army (my family couldn't fathom my obsession—they still don't—but it was no secret) like everybody else, I was devouring the endless content BTS and BigHit keep us happy with, constantly. 24/7. They would make my day brighter. Bring a smile to my face. Make me laugh out loud. Make me tear up. All in front of my laptop. YouTube was my new best friend and I carried around electronics wherever I went because come on—it becomes an addiction and you start getting withdrawal symptoms when you go even a day without them! I am not the fan-girling type, but boy oh boy, did BTS convert me and convert me hard! They have this special gift of making each and every one feel so up close and personal with them. I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this..they brought out this protectiveness in me that I only reserve for my closest and bestest friends. I wished the best for them, wished to protect them, wished to do things to help them.

I was so upset when I came across that video of RapMon and Yoongi being dissed by Bfree or whoever the hell he was.

Lets not even talk about Flower Boy Crew or whatever, one look at Kookie’s face on an article that spoke about his mistreatment and I refused to watch it.

It still makes my blood boil. Sometimes, I stay up thinking of ways to exact revenge on those assholes, excuse my French. Ugh. Anyway. Moving on.

What I’m trying to say is, the connection was real and intense and unbreakable right from the get go.

Lets take a moment to talk about biases because it's a rite of passage isn’t it? One has a bias. One loves all 7 babies equally, but one always, always, always has a bias that makes one’s knees weak. It may come as a surprise to you (my name is insugarush after all), but my chosen bias within the first few weeks of being a newborn Army was Jungkook.

He was cute and his moves mesmerized me and there were endless videos about how adorable he is and also contradictingly manly and oh-so-talented and he likes Noonas (yayy small victory there) The Golden Maknae had caught my attention and I was pretty sure that would be it. I remember being annoyed at Suga while watched Summer Package thinking “Why is he so lazy” “why is he so sleepy and grumpy” “Jungkook is so cool” “He hardly even has footage”

This was before, of course, I knew about how hard he worked and all his issues. All older Armys will remember Suga used to get little footage earlier even in variety shows as compared to the rest of the boys, probably because in the pre AgustD era he used to be more reserved and just generally more quiet and not this funny, spontaneous, carefree, fun person we see today (touch wood) (may God always keep him this happy and give him more and more reasons to be with every passing day)

But this is what I tell people. I didn't choose Yoongi, Yoongi chose me. Much like life and fate and other small, inexplicable things that ultimately come together to form the bigger picture. I don't know how it happened, during which show or concert or bomb, but way before the BST comeback, suddenly, my radar picked up on Yoongi. I couldn't look past Yoongi. Everyone else faded into the background and it was just Yoongi Yoongi Yoongi for me. All his charms came to the forefront and suddenly the same videos I watched and got annoyed at earlier now became super-duper cute and I just entered this black hole and just…you get the point. He destroyed me. Ruined me for life. It was 2 weeks of Jungkook and then Yoongi was like “bitch look at me” and I was a goner. He STOLE my heart people. STOLE it. And now its his forever. <sigh>

Anyway. I had made up my mind. BTS was true love. I had to see it till the end. The moment even just the rumours started circulating about their world tour, I promised myself I would attend one of their concerts. I promised myself I would make it work somehow! Do what it takes. Go wherever it’s easiest to get permission. I think that was still around their comeback sometime in October, because there was no official announcement yet.

Once it was announced the easiest target for me was LA. I had family there and visa, and also a fellow Army cousin sister, so it was literally just about booking the flight and getting the concert tickets, everything else would be taken care of, and my parents would be satisfied. This happened on 19th November. As expected it was easy to get permission from my family, and I got super-duper excited because I really thought this is gonna happen! What I didn’t expect was issues cropping from my family there..it seemed they wouldn't be around at that time etc etc…my heart was broken people. Into a million tiny pieces. Its one thing knowing you can never go, but another getting so close to going, seeing literally everything work out, and then having to cut out that dream and throw it away again. My family tried to make me feel better saying there would be a next time and there are so many concerts to come but I was sad. For exactly 2 days. Lol.

Like I said, I don’t give up. For a moment, I considered trying for Newark. Same country, different coast, but I had friends so it might work. Worth a shot! I was desperate. I just didn’t want to give up. The next day I got talking to another cousin whose in Dubai and we decided amongst ourselves that it was now or never. Forget anywhere else, we MUST go to Seoul for this. There would be more concerts, true, but this in particular was a special one! This one had all the boys’ solos and it was a next step, the end of one era and the beginning of a new one and the first concert was in Seoul. We must go. And it HAS to be Seoul because we have noticed the level of interaction the boys have with KArmys (obviously because of no language barrier—though int Armys get their own perks in their concerts)

21st November I booked accommodation online on my credit card. I didn't tell a soul, just me and my cousin, without permission, without tickets, flight OR concert—just pure faith that I need to make this work. The only thing on my mind was---people will flood the city and even if we get permission and tickets and visa, maybe there would be no room for us in Seoul because everything would be sold out! Lol. The mind is funny when it panics. Of course the whole city wouldn't have been sold out! It was a BTS Concert, not Olympics! But in my mind it was just as big, if not bigger.

I made sure I booked rooms that can be paid at a later date, took a wild guess at the dates (we had the tour dates I just booked 2 days before to 2 after) and it came down to $1000 for 2 rooms, max 5 people. Not a bad deal if you do the math!

Permission. Now this was a whole other ordeal. If most of you reading this are from India, like me, then you know this is not normal yet. Letting your daughter travel all the way to another part of the world just for a concert, to watch 7 boys you don’t know of, just doesn’t happen! All I can say is, I worked hard people. I concentrated on not making my parents angry. Doing whatever they wanted. Missed out on things I wanted to do so that I do what they want of me. When I was in sufficiently good books, broke the news to them that this was the goal I was working towards. I’m not the type to ask my parents for things, they could see how badly I wanted this. “No way” my dad had said. “I am not sending you to another country alone just with another cousin sister.” He did get convinced finally when I added desperately that my cousin’s mom might be joining us too (she had no plans but it sort of became a conditional permission) I promised him I would pay for my accommodation, concert tickets and any expenses on my own. All I need from him is permission and air tickets. Lol. This is how we compromise people! I didn’t dare breathe a word about how I had gone ahead and booked accommodation without his knowledge. What he doesn't know won’t hurt him! :P

Concert Tickets. This made me cry. I am not kidding. This was the most stressful part of this entire ordeal. I kept reminding myself how much I love BTS and how this will all be worth it in the end. I give 100% credit to my cousin sister, who btw, hadn't even taken permission from her own folks yet, but worked with everything she’s got to secure tickets.

First we tried the normal way. The date and time were out, the website was in Korean, but still accessible. I got one of my best friends who also happens to be a Korean to help me out. She lives in New York but she agreed to wake up at 4am to book our tickets for us..I filled her in (“BTS? Now who are they? Are you over Kim Hyun Joong? Park Bo Gum too? Good Lord you are not faithful”) We did a trial run before the actual day of booking. We navigated the page, downloaded the app, etc etc. We decided the 3 of us would try and book together from India, Dubai and New York, and whoever gets through, great! I had heard horror stories about tickets being sold out in minutes and didn’t want to risk it. I was fully aware that I would cancel all my plans if I didn’t get tickets.

On the day of the tickets opening up for sale to the general public, I was traveling. In the middle of nowhere. Somewhere around Mysore Palace to be exact. Everyone reading this from India knows we are not that lucky with internet, specially on the highways atop mountains, but I was carrying my stuff. We were out with another family and everyone was very hyped about this. One of the boys had asked me, “Who ARE these people that you’re going all the way to Korea to see?” I am proud to say I made an Army fanboy right there once I made him listen to Fire and then Dope. I prefer making people listen to the songs first so they don’t judge on the basis of appearances.

My throat was dry and my heart was pounding, I had everything ready—laptop, net, credit card. My friend from NY on the other phone with me, we’re all waiting for the sale to open. The minute it happened, all 3 of us on 3 laptops in 3 different corners of the world started frantically trying to buy tickets. We wanted the stands, BTS only. We all made it as far as seat selection page, but after that it just. wont. budge. For all of us! We tried and tried. I thought maybe it's the internet. I did everything I could! But the seats just wouldn't get selected. I saw the seats dwindle IN FRONT OF MY EYES. It went from 300 seats available to 150 available to 50 available to 10 available to finally---sold out. I called up New York and Dubai hoping and praying they have something—nope. Same story everywhere. I wanted to cry. I was just broken. I mean..I had done everything possible, but it just didn't happen. It dint work for all of us! At the same time! What does this even mean?!

I was so sad. Like so sad. I remember everyone trying to cheer me up, and me just reigning in my tears because we were traveling with another family. I couldn't even grieve properly. I just left that to it but refused to cancel my hotel yet. I could cancel in Feb without being charged so I just..left it. Mostly because it would break my heart to do it.

The next day we got information that some tickets are going on re-sale on the same website at midnight. AGAIN we sat. Again we got stuck at the same place. Again we saw the numbers dwindle and dwindle till they got sold out. Again. Now I was beyond frustrated. How can this happen 2 times in a row?! How have the others got their tickets?! What are we doing wrong?!

I realised too late it was probably a website thing, we should have tried the app the second day. Just didn't strike me till the tickets got sold out again right in front of my eyes! That helplessness and frustration is something I can never forget. And I felt worse when I realized the solution, just 5 minutes too late. Should have used the bloody App.

This time instead of being sad, I was filled with anger and determination. I’m gonna do this somehow, I vowed to myself. This was mid December already. My cousin sister and I started working on finding re-sellers on Twitter and on the Korean re-sale sites. We tried KoreanBuddy, koreanshoppingservice..dude I don’t even remember! I just remember a lot of Korean websites, Google Translate and Stress, that's all. We did our research, checked up blogs on how buy re-sale tickets, what to look for to find out if it's a fraud etc etc. We found a legit site called TicketBay and a bunch of people selling at insane prices ($400 for a $100 ticket) and finally decided on one seller and bought 2 tickets. This is January 10th already..the concert is a month away, and we’re still buying tickets. No one at home knows about this yet. My cousin did all the leg work..many people backed out, many people asked for payments in advance. We got lucky that the only girl we paid in advance turned out to be true, we were desperate at that point and only wanted to score tickets. I had decided even if it's a loss, it would be a secret I would take to my grave. Once we secured that, we became more relaxed. The girl was to meet us 1 day before the concert and hand over tickets, she seemed honest and sent loads and loads of proof before we took that leap of faith! I would strongly advise better decision making abilities people. We got lucky. We sent her money on PayPal, she could have turned out to be a fraud and run away with it and couldn't have been able to do jack..but again, we got lucky.

Then we started actively working on Air Tickets and packing. Now my cousin decided to START getting permission, lol. It was much more stressful for her, she’s younger and it was a long and drawn out process, but she managed finally. Her mom and sister wanted to come along too, so that worked out for all of us! I’m glad I hadn’t cancelled my 5 seater accommodation in December! But Air ticket prices had shot up, and I ended up paying $1200 for my tickets instead of $600, which I could have if I had booked earlier. But I was waiting for at least concert tickets and my cousin to sort out her permission issues!

An idea of my packing list:

All of January was very, very stressful. Trying to find re-sellers is a pain, and trying to figure out if they are legit is even worse. Everyone had their own demands. Some we could and some we couldn't meet. Someway down the line we decided that now that we’re going all the way to Seoul to actually watch the boys, it would be a shame to just go one day. And hence the whole process of looking for more tickets re-started! Ugh. Ugly! But now that at least 1 pair was secured, we were okay with people wanting upfront payments on the day of the concerts and meeting us outside etc etc…worse comes to worst, they would ditch, but at least we would still have our money with us! One girl did ditch us btw. She suddenly stopped replying on 19th morning, on the DAY of the second concert, but thankfully my cousin had another back up contact lined up. Seriously, kudos to her! She managed the tickets on her own.

In total I ended up paying $600 for 2 tickets for both days as late as late as January 16th, that was just me. My cousin paid additional for her 2 tickets! The first pair of tickets we got delivered to my cousin’s friend in Korea, even that BigHit sent out the physical tickets so damn late (10th or 11th February I think?) that our hearts found no rest till the tickets were in our friend’s hands! We picked those for 18th up on 17th night, and additional 2 tickets with upfront payment for the 19th also the same night. Another extra ticket 19th morning, just before we entered the arena for the second day.

It was sticky and messy and oh-so-stressful, I just remember being constantly stressed right from December to February when I actually left. Of course worth it in the end when we got to see the boys, but I strongly recommend downloading the app and using it every damn day if you have to, just get familiar with it (Interpark) so when the time comes you are prepared about how to buy your own BTS tickets at stock price!

I’m glad I got to see the boys but I could have easily saved $1000---which would have meant that much more merchandise or maybe even an additional concert in the nearer countries if I was feeling a little too ambitious with my parents and permission! :P

We hardly had a week to go before leaving for Seoul now, and that was mostly spent in trying out outfits to pack, making itineraries (I have done extensive research guys, please ask me what you want to know, I can probably become a guide in Seoul if I want by now). I listed down things I wanted to do/places I wanted to visit/food I wanted to try, area wise in my diary. Which mode of transportation to take, which card to buy that would work on Subways---etc etc. I sort of tried taking responsibility for this because my cousin had managed all the ticketing mess more or less on her own.

So my last week was spent in that, and the fan project I randomly decided to start. Things actually fell into place so late, that by the time I initiated the fan project there was already too less time to spread the word or go about it in a more organized manner. But thanks to all the lovely, lovely Indian Armys who helped me out so much by spreading the word, sending in their letters and artwork, and even cover page for me, it worked out! I spent the last 2 days in India editing and compiling the book to BTS, I wanted it to look nice and I really, really wanted to take all your lovely words to them. Some of those letters were so touching that I remember feeling like I was intruding by even reading them. Even after I reached Seoul airport, I was working on the book, marking up the letters etc. The final result turned out really nice, actually! I will write a whole other update for that, because the sort of drama that happened there deserves a post lol.

Soo for anyone who wants to know..this entire thing took me about 3 months of insane stress and planning and about $3000 in total, which included escalated Air Fare and Concert Tickets, Hotel Tariff, Visa and even expenses in Seoul. It's an inflated figure and I’m sure you can manage with waaay less if you are smart about your bookings!

A lot of people emailed me when they heard about me going to Seoul for the concert saying how lucky I was. Yes, maybe 1% of it was luck but trust me guys---I worked freakin hard to make this happen. Against all sorts of odds. I could have given up long ago, at the first sign of it not working out, but I kept pushing. What I want to say is…please don't feel its something that will never happen for you. Its just about charting out a way and trying your best. At least give it your best shot! Don’t give up in your head, before you even try, just because it seems impossible. If it really doesn't happen after that, no worries…at least you tried! Even I couldn't have imagined all this would work out. I think about how I was so close to going to LA or Newark---but I’m so glad I pushed for Seoul. It was the culmination of a whole lot of efforts, not just luck..

Black Clover's Asta Is A Great Anime Boy And I Won't Hear Otherwise

In 2017, two cries could be heard across the anime universe. The first was that of Asta, the constantly loud protagonist of Black Clover, shouting his ambitions to anyone that would listen and even those that wouldn't. The second were the cries of some anime fans, wondering why this dude had to shout everything. It quickly achieved meme status, which is the #1 sign of popularity in the 2010's, and even though a decent number of shows, from Dragon Ball Z to One Piece, feature lead characters that scream their dreams, Asta was just too loud. For a second, we all became stuck-up anime parents: "YOU TURN THAT ASTA DOWN THIS INSTANT, CRUNCHYROLL. I'M TRYING TO NAP OR WATCH DARLING IN THE FRANXX OR BOTH, POSSIBLY."

Luckily, this meme has died down, but there's a stigma around Asta that hasn't fully left. Maybe it's because, around the same time, we got sweet young Deku from My Hero Academia, a boy that only yelled when he was about to be murdered by a villain or break his own arms in an attempt to punch said villain. Or maybe it's because, after so many loud heroes, we figured that we were too self aware to enjoy one that wore his voice on his sleeve. (Side note: This is not a diss on My Hero Academia. I love MHA, and I believe that Deku and Asta would be great friends. Heck, best friends.)

Regardless of why, it wasn't because Black Clover wasn't popular in the first place. People have a tendency to remember the things that they don't like as failures (It's why we count Spider-Man 3 as some grand cinematic disappointment when it was the top grossing movie of 2007 and the highest grossing Spider-Man film to this day), and the most dramatic minority tended to imagine Black Clover, not as a hit, but as a wart on the side of Weekly Shonen Jump. But it's the fourth highest grossing anime for TV Tokyo. Peopld are definitely (and consistently) watching Black Clover.

But if you think that Asta isn't qualified to stand beside Deku or Goku or Luffy or Edward Bleach (that's the protagonist of Bleach, right?), I have some news for you: You're wrong. Asta is a great anime boy and he exemplifies a lot of what I want out of a hero from this genre. And I think it's awesome that he yells. Heck, he has to. A lot of people in the show don't believe in him, or didn't believe in him when they first met him and you know what? Sometimes ya gotta yell if you wanna be heard, especially in the world of magic. His bro Yuno has obvious powers from the start of the show. How are you gonna compete with that if you're not down to raise your voice a little bit. "Speak loudly and carry a big Demon-Slayer Sword" is what Theodore Roosevelt always said.

Also, Asta's enthusiastic. I enjoy a strong, silent type every once in a while and I dig that Asta is contrasted to Yuno. But if they were both brooding, reticent types, I'd have quit watching by episode two. Plus, I don't need Asta to be typically aloof and cool. I think it's fun that he tries so hard, and that he's not an instant prodigy. Sure, he'd be better for wish fulfillment if he said all the right things and didn't really have to work to be talented, but that's just not what my dude Asta is about.

This need to work has built a sense of determination into Asta, which makes his fights and struggles more interesting. I love watching characters power up in big fights. It's a trope that I will never get sick of because I will never stop cheering whenever someone releases their GUMGUMBEASTBOMBEHAMEHA. And Black Clover does a great job of making these power ups feel earned, and if they seem to come out of nowhere, at least they don't feel like unnatural progression. I'm not saying that other shows don't do a good job with this. I'm just saying that I get hyped when it happens with Asta, which is the mark of a character that I actually care about. He has given me a reason to be invested in his battles.

Plus, I'm always down for any character that has a seemingly impossible dream. Asta wants to be the Magic King, and while it'd be super easy to say: "Well, he'll probably accomplish it in the end because typical Shonen formula dictates that he will, and btw I'm joyless," I'm not gonna be that jaded against Asta or anime in general. Like his "power ups" in battle, it's not like he's completely undeserving of it. He was chosen by the Black Bull, the squad that a lot of people considered trash. So he's had to struggle, not only to gain the respect of the Bulls, but to gain respect for the Bulls. Again, he didn't show up in Kikka to hear: "AH, YES. THIS IS THE BOY THAT WILL ONE DAY PROTECT US ALL." No, they thought he was a loud weirdo. And man, Asta. I've been there.

Finally, Asta gives me a beautiful vision for the future of fighting games based around Weekly Shonen Jump properties. Jump Force was definitely a mixed bag, but one of the best parts was learning that Asta was my favorite character to play as. I've been entrenched in One Piece for years. It's fueled my existence. And so I imagined that when I started Jump Force, I'd create my Grand Line-oriented team and wreak havoc on the plot. But Asta won me over and now I hope that he shows up in more games. Fingers crossed for a Dragon Ball FighterZ-esque game featuring Black Clover characters. Fingers reeeeeal crossed.

In short, if you still think Asta is a stain on the side of his genre, I think you're missing out. Black Clover is not only a really fun, really watchable show, but it's also got a great anime boy at the front of it. He may be loud, but he is mine. You go, Asta.
