My mental image for Kim Rok Soo

I've seen some art of him and have come to realize the image on the novel cover was supposed to be Earth body, but by the time I saw it I'd already come up with my own opinions on his appearance, so I'm not going to set down my vision either lmao

> KRS grew up initially without proper food so he was likely underweight and didn't grow to his proper size, leading him to have a somewhat malnourished look to him

> This is supported by continued comments about his 20-yo self looking painfully thin

> I gave him bangs at that age mostly because he would have been focused a bit more on looking nice for job reasons, but he still doesn't have the money for nice hair products, so it's still pretty short hair

> Since this is also the body he gets in Central Plains, I decided to show his scammer smile too ahahaha-- How odd that must look to Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Hyuk, knowing that on Earth he was incredibly stoic and rarely gave a smile - let alone a big one. I didn't look up proper wuxia outfits so uhhh don't think too hard about the fashion djfjsh

> By age 36 he is healthier with regards to his physique, but a lifetime of being thin would likely mean he still would not be the type to bulk up. Getting large would require concerted bodybuilding effort, which he has no time for, and access to a lot of protein. Even if he had time and resources, it isnt really optimal for his own time management nor his actual needs. KRS is a very practical person, so I see him as someone who would prioritize logical self-sustainment: compact, lean muscle, making it easier on resources to maintain

> He might carry a bigger gun too, but I didn't feel like hanging one on him. It would likely be variable anyway, depending on what kind of monster his team needed to face. I chose to just draw the items he would always carry on him. I think he is also supposed to have a metal panel turned into a shield, which I probably should have drawn but didn't ahaha-

> Thanks to overwork, he generally always looked tired and stoic. I imagine his voice was pretty deadpan unless he speaks of something he has conviction for ("you must eat") or during combat if he has to raise his voice for an urgent command

> This older KRS probably has an electric shaver and just buzzes his hair periodically when it gets long enough. He's not vain, so gorgeous hair isn't a priority. I think to contrast this, the long hair he grows as Cale can be seen as him trying to set down this lifestyle, where his self-maintenance only focused on being combat-ready. It also can be seen as him trying to (pre-emptively) enter his "I am done with work" mentality. Fighting with long hair isn't actually logical, so maybe as he grows it longer, it's like mentally telling himself "it's fine, I'm almost done fighting, soon I can be a slacker" (lol)

Cale being genuinely kind and wanting what is best for himself and for the people he cherishes as friends, family and loved ones, but I want him to unleash hell on those that are his enemies. Let him hunt them down callously, sending hounds after them for they are not worthy of being a dragon's prey- and let them witness their last moments alive by promising to hand deliver their remains to their families.

In the end, he doesn't even keep that promise of his. They shouldn't have dared to trust him.

Leaning his cheek on the palm of his hand, he watches them breathe their last and whispers low and sweet in their ears, "I changed my mind. What better gift to give your family, than the bright hope that you may still be alive somewhere? Let them wait... until they forget."

He keeps watch over them as they claw desperately in the dirt, tears spilling over, cursing him as blood-filled spittle runs down their chin before failing to move again. "You shouldn't have crossed paths with me. I don't enjoy doing this, but people like you never learn, so I always have to do this the hard way."

The one thing I always think about is the fact that White Star, that crazy bastard, had so much more than just 6 ancient powers -- but it was only revealed AFTER he was killed. And all of those went to Cale Henituse, as if it wasn't enough that the guy already had NINE!!

By the end of Part 1, he had, AT THE VERY LEAST, 7 ancient powers (not counting the Fire-Suppressing Water which was used up), 7 embraced ancient powers (because the Annual Rings of Life combined into 1, and this is not counting the White Star's other unnamed ancient powers), and 2 ancient artifacts. This also doesn't even count his 3 abilities or the divine items in his possession.

You think it's crazy for the people of that world to possess more than 1 ancient power? Well Cale Henituse is a powerhouse of more than 14 ancient powers, literal nature incarnate. God of Nature in human form. A natural multidimensional disaster.

I just thought of something.

Imagine if Kim Rok Soo's old team on Earth found out what happened to the original Kim Rok Soo.

Not in an angsty, identity-reveal way. The side story kinda implies they're all aware something is up with OG Cale!KRS, but since he seems happier, they don't mind the change. If they found out that KRS!Cale is happy too, I think they would accept things without much difficulty – especially since it's been over two years now, and surely they're attached to OG Cale!KRS as much as they were to their old team leader.

No, the point I'm trying to make is this: imagine them finding out how Cale basically got scouted. And recruited. By a freaking God. ...To save a fantasy world. And not just one.

"Your leader, Kim Rok Soo? Yeah, he was so crazy good and efficient at his job, the God of Death noticed him. Now he's casually travelling the multiverse, wreaking havoc everywhere and saving multiple dimensions from certain destruction. Is he working for the God of Death, you ask-? Pfff, he wishes! Kim Rok Soo with scars on his face but no smile lines or stress wrinkles. Kim Rok Soo who keeps his hands in his pockets because of the ugly breakage and dense callouses. Kim Rok Soo who always wears long sleeves. Kim Rok Soo who has never revealed to anyone in his team the extent of his scars. Kim Rok Soo who hides bandages under his clothes and wears all black so that if a bloodstain makes it through, it won’t be visible. Kim Rok Soo who works hard to hide anything scary about his appearance.

Kim Rok Soo who becomes Cale Henituse and assumes that no one will care now that he’s gone from the company.

Cale Henituse who has a young soft face. Cale Henituse who keeps his hands at his sides and he has to remind himself not to hide them because there’s nothing to hide anymore. Cale Henituse who still wears long sleeves but can roll them up or unbutton his shirt. Cale Henituse who has no scars to hide. Cale Henituse who starts off wearing colors and clean white like a noble but wears the black uniform during battles because he knows it hides blood well, blood that will probably be his own. Cale Henituse who finds it easier to hide the scars of his past than physical scars.

Cale Henituse who has a new freedom with his body, because now the pain is internal and he can wipe off the blood from his lip without visible reminders to burden his companions.

Cale Henituse who feels fine but his complexion is pale and his body is thin.

Kim Rok Soo who is strong but he hides his wounds and the past painted onto his skin under dark clothing.

The person who hurts because he cares.

The person who hides because he cares.

The person who hides and hurts but can’t see when other people care for him behind the walls he’s built up.

Kim Rok Soo.

Cale Henituse.

Cold-blooded leader.

Young Master Silver Shield.

The same bleeding heart, two sides of one coin.

It's probably because this is the first arc I've actively had to wait for updates for (barring a few chapters during the previous world with all the dead mana), but man this Central Plains arc feels like it's really dragging

Putting in a cut for spoilersss

Then again, maybe I'm just bored because there really aren't any revelations about any characters, world, the bigger plot, nor are we developing any characters. Which is a pity considering we just got CJS, so there should be a ton of opportunity here for him and LHS/Sui Khan to tag team Cale in some way. Instead they seem to be mostly ignoring him other than one duel with Choi Han.

Or alternatively, the other team members should be curious about how CJS knows Cale, or want to know more about him. Okay, so far only Alberu and Choi Han know Cale's deal, but shouldn't everyone be getting suspicious? Shouldn't they want to know how Cale knows this fellow?

I miss the rest of the team _(:"3/ Eruhaben.... Rosalyn.... Alberu........ I even miss Toonka, even though he's there - but he's been shoved off-screen for so long it's like he doesn't exist

Basically, this arc seems to not have been utilized in a way that develops any character or our understanding of people, and so it comes off as a bit empty "going through the motions" instead.... I hope the next arc is better

Just remembered how prior to finding out the real truth, Alver had thought that even if it was someone else in Cale Henituse's body, he didn't care because he liked and cherished the current Cale, whomever he may be and now I suddenly feel unwell.

I am firm in my belief that TCF is writing its own crossovers and fanfictions into the story.

A story where what if everyone died except for Cale after the final battle against the White Star? Just check the Wind Island Test.

A time travel fix-it/everybody lives fic? The Sealed God's Test on Earth 2 technically counts.

An AU where the White Star wins and Cale loses, or maybe a world where Cale does not exist? Reading about Kim Rok Soo's past before the apocalypse or when he was a kid? What if Choi Han managed to save Harris Village? You can find all of that in the Sealed God's Temple!

What if TCF had a crossover? No problem! Do you want a necromancer world? A murim world? Or do you want a "Duke of the North Cale Henituse" world? Do you want a Demon King with that, or a side dish of the Divine Realm?
