Headcanons: Being best friends and in a relationship with Lou Ransone (+ pre-relationship friendship)

Pre-Relationship Friendship:

Neither you or Lou really remember when or how you became friends.

You just remember always getting along since you met, and somewhere along the way you became best-friends.

No one could compete with the other, you didn't really question it, you just became each others "better-half."

You know everything about each other.

What perfumes/colognes the other wears, their favorite snacks, foods, drinks.

You have said food/drinks always stocked at your houses for each other.

You have traditions for holidays, and birthdays.

Whether it be eating out at the same spot every year, or getting each other specific gifts that only mean something to you.

So many inside jokes it drives everyone else crazy.

You are partners at work, and you make a great team.

You always eat lunch and dinner together.

And often spend long nights working on cases together.

You take turns bringing each other coffee/tea and pastries in the mornings.

Sometimes you forget whose day it is so both of you end up bringing stuff, so you end up with four drinks and way too many pastries. Lucky for others in the office.

A lot of the time, people assume you are already dating.

At first you thought it was just funny, but slowly as each of you started to develop feelings for each other, the thought would make you blush.

You accepted that it was just you and that nothing would happen between you, but surprise! He felt the same.

During Relationship:

When the two of you finally started dating, literally no one was surprised lol.

There was a betting pool going around the precinct about how long it would take.

Athena won.

Nothing really changed with your friendship, except the fact that you got more comfortable with touch, as it had a bit more meaning to it now.

When walking together, he will link his pinkie finger around yours, or take your hand in his completely.

He absentmindedly reaches or you if you stray too far away.

So you often feel his hand gently against your back or shoulder, and you naturally step closer to him.

Your offices at work are littered with pieces of each other.

He has a geode on his desk you got him for his birthday. He uses it as a paperweight.

You have an hourglass he got you for Christmas, that may or may not have been a friendly dig at you always getting distracted with work and overworking.

You also have a bunch of pens you have slowly stolen from his office. He knows they're there, but he wants to wait to see how many you accumulate before giving them back.

Most of the time, you are in each others offices, you might as well just share one at this point.

If someone goes into your office, you'll be in your chair, Lou will be sitting on the edge of your desk.

Go into Lou's office, you will either be sitting on his desk, or lounging on the couch in his office (that he added because you insisted).

Even though most people know you are in a relationship, you keep it "professional" at work. (Apart from the teasing, jokes, and occasional prank)

Valentines Day Morning

Plot: A pleasant Valentines morning with Y/n and Lou.

Prompt: ''Turning around, and suddenly being met with a kiss.''

Warnings: None, just some pure domestic fluff.

Words: 541

Morning light shined through the kitchen window, as bird song could be heard from the trees just outside.

Humming softly to yourself, you were lost in thought as you cut the strawberries into heart shapes to place along the crepes you were making.

You smiled to yourself, amused, you decided when making a Valentines themed breakfast, that you were allowed to be cheesy, at least for today.

On the table nearby, was a bouquet of your favorite flowers and chocolates you had found in the kitchen when you got up. You figured Lou had snuck down and placed them there after you had gone to bed, so you would find them first thing this morning.

Though you were making breakfast, you had already eaten a few of the chocolates, unable to resist.

Too lost in thought, you didn't hear Lou walk into the kitchen behind you.

Lou leaned in the doorway for a few moments as he buttoned up his shirt. He watched you with an adoring smile on his face as you hummed a familiar tune.

He could tell you hadn't been aware he came into the kitchen, as you always say hello when you noticed his presence. After another moment, he walked up to you, taking soft quiet steps as to not alarm you of his presence.

As you sliced another strawberry, you felt as though someone had approached you from behind. Just as you began to turn, you felt hands gently grip your wait and turn you around swiftly.

You let out a soft gasp, that was then muffled as his lips met yours. You stifled a surprised laugh until after Lou pulled away. He grinned down at you, amused that he managed to sneak up on you. You grinned playfully at him, but smiled.

"Good morning." He greeted.

"Morning." You said with a forced, yet amused tone.

Looking over your shoulder, Lou smirked as he saw the red and brown crepes, with a strawberry cream cheese filling, heart shaped strawberries and chocolate drizzle.

"Very festive." He said with light sarcasm and a smile.

You smiled as you reached up and placed your arms on either side of his neck, as his hands rested on your hips.

"Thank you, I was feeling cheesy this morning."

He chuckled softly before he slowly leaned down. Leaning up, you met him in a kiss.

"Thank you for the flowers and chocolates." You said with a smile as you motioned your head towards the gifts on the table.

"You're welcome."

Wrapping your arms around his neck, and stepping up onto your toes, you hugged him close, as he wrapped his own arms around you. You took in a deep breath, and the familiar scent of your favorite cologne engulfed your nose. Your whole body seemed to tingle, yet relax in his arms as you felt warmth wash over you.

Stepping away from him, he gently caressed the side of your face before planting a kiss to your forehead.

Turning to finish the crepes, Lou began grabbing plates and forks, a familiar routine you did each morning as you switched turns cooking for each other.

Popping a strawberry into your mouth you smiled to yourself as you realized just how happy you were.

Mistletoe Distraction

12 Days of Christmas: Day 3

Plot: While in the office late at night, Lou uses a familiar tradition to distract Y/n from the stress of work.

Pairing: Lou Ransone x Gn!Reader

A/n: Though it is about mistletoe, Christmas is not mentioned in this oneshot

Warnings: A kiss obviously lol, and a slightly suggestive conversation, but that's it.

Words: ~1k

Sitting on the edge of Lou's desk, you read through the report one more time. You had been stuck on this case for the whole day, making no new headway and it was getting to you. Catching no new information you could use, you closed it.

Setting it down on his desk, you sighed and stood up, stretching "There's nothing in these reports we don't already know."

Lou closed the file in his own hands as he nodded "Yeah, I know. Maybe we should take a break for the night."

Walking into the doorway and looking out into the office, you noted that most of the lights were off as everyone else had already gone home.

Looking at the clock, you saw it was close to midnight. You had known many cops and detectives to stay well past working on their own cases.

Turning around, you leaned against the doorway and looked in on Lou "Why does it feel like we're the only one's that care about this case?"

Lou smiled and shook his head "We're not, we just happen to be the only two obsessed enough with it to stay after work until-" He checked his watch and peered back at you "Midnight."

"I've seen cops stay longer for their own cases." You mumbled before you leaned it against the doorway. "And I'm not even tired."

Lou watched you for a moment, before his eyes slowly rose, catching on the decoration hanging above you. He felt a small jolt in his chest as he remembered seeing one of the deputies hang it on his door as a joke earlier in the day. He was on the phone so he had forgotten about it.

Looking past you and out into the office, his eyes scanned the empty precinct before he looked back at you, seeing you were clearly lost in thought as you stared into space.

He watched you for another moment before a small smile crossed his face. It would be a shame not to take advantage of this moment. Especially since the two of you were now alone and technically off the clock.

The two of you had given into your shared feelings a few weeks prior. Your professional relationship stayed the same, never showing any signs of a relationship during work.

Lou would be lying if he said he didn't hate how long he had to wait everyday to focus on the non "professional" part of your relationship. And he was fairly certain some people knew about it, but never said anything.

Rising from his desk, Lou casually made his way towards you before leaning on the opposite side of the doorway from you. His eyes scanned the precinct one more time, and he was confident there was no one else around. Even the janitors had gone home already.

His hands sat in his pockets as he watched you for a moment, wondering how long it would take you to leave your own thoughts.

It was only a few moments before you noticed his closer presence. You looked up and met his eyes, seeing a soft smile on his face, you felt your heart jolt lightly.

You couldn't stop the small smile that spread across your own face "What are you smiling at?"

Lou tilted his head slightly as he spoke, his face showing his amusement "For someone who tends to notice every small detail, you sometimes miss big ones."

Confusion showed clearly on your face as you processed his words. Was he talking about the case? Did you miss something obvious? If that was so, why would he be smiling?

"What do you mean?" You voiced with confusion as you turned towards him fully, arms crossed.

Lou smiled as he motioned his head upwards.

As your eyes shot up, you immediately noticed the obvious. A green plant tied with red ribbon, hanging from Lou's doorway. You felt heat rise up your neck as you repressed a smile. How had you not noticed it? How long had it been there?

Looking back into his eyes, you spoke with a mix of mild amusement and bewilderment "Mistletoe?"

"Hastings put it up earlier, as a joke."

"Funny joke." You said with a note of sarcasm. You knew Hastings had a not so secret thing for Lou.

He shrugged as he pushed himself away from the doorway, and stepped closer to you, staring down into your eyes.

"It has it's usefulness."

You tried to repress the grin tempting it's way onto your face as you narrowed your eyes and tilted your chin up "Oh yeah? Like what?"

Stepping a bit closer, he leaned his arm on the door frame above your head, as his face hung just above yours "Like, providing a distraction from the work we're focusing too hard on."

Your lips twitched into a small smile as you saw his eyes flick to your lips briefly.

"And what kind of distraction were you hoping for exa-"

Your sentence was cut short as Lou leaned down, and pressed a kiss to your lips. Without hesitation, you deepened the kiss. As he leaned closer to you, his hand cupped your face, your hand gently reached forward and grabbed onto the collar of his shirt.

Lou's hand moved to the back of your head as he deepened the kiss. A few moments later you broke apart, breathless. You stared into each others eyes for a moment before you smiled.

"My favorite kind of distraction then?"

Lou smiled as he pressed his forehead against yours "I think I saw some more mistletoe in the elevator. You still determined to work the case, or do you want to get out of here?"

You smiled up at him "There's nothing else we can do tonight anyways."

"Exactly." He said softly before pulling away, moving to go grab his jacket.

Looking up at the mistletoe you smiled, before you felt Lou's hand slip into yours as he pulled you along with him and towards the elevators.

Headcanons: Love, Intimacy and Kissing (Lou Ransone)

Headcanons: 'Love: Ways they say or show they love you.' + 'Intimacy: How they show intimacy; physical and not.' & 'Kissing: Do they like kissing? How do they kiss, when, etc.'

Pairing: Lou Ransone x Gn!Reader

Warnings: Somewhat detailed kissing, but nothing further.

Love:

Pre-Relationship:

Before Lou ever confessed how he felt about you, he would show his feelings in a variety of ways. Whether you knew what these things truly meant or not.

Bringing you tea/coffee in the mornings or during long shifts.

If he buys a pastry or snack he always gets you one too.

Driving you home when you don't have your car, to make sure you get home safely. He always walks you to your door, or waits in the car until you get inside.

Watching your favorite shows and movies, listening to your favorite music, or reading your favorite book so he can talk to you about them and bond over them.

Making sure he is always stocked up on your favorite snacks, teas/coffees, and drinks for the days you may come over to his house when you are working on a difficult case.

Staying close to you in a crowded space, keeping his hand gently wrapped around your arm, or on your back as you move through crowds.

Relationship:

He continued to do most of the things listed above once you were finally in a relationship. But, he found other ways as well.

Keeping spare toothbrushes, soaps, conditioners, etc, that he knows you like so you can use them when you stay over at his place.

Making you breakfast or dinner, often surprising you with them.

Gently holding your head, before pressing a kiss to your lips, cheek or forehead.

Lou is not afraid of saying the phrase 'I love you', but other phrases he uses that hold the same feeling are: 'I'll be here if you need me', 'Don't be long', 'I already miss you'

Gently brushing his fingers over your arms, legs, thighs, and stomach, as you lay together at night.

Running you a bath after a long day, or if you get hurt.

Taking care of you when you are sick or injured. You never have to ask him to do this, he is already prepared and willing.

Intimacy (Physical and Non)

Physically, Lou does not shy away from intimacy.

If you could always be in his arms, he could be content.

He loves to kiss you (but we'll get to that).

He likes holding you to his chest to comfort with you or him.

Lou does not partake in PDA for the most part. But an arm stretched across your shoulders or around your waist is a given.

And he will hold hands, and give you the occasional quick kiss on the cheek and sometimes lips. But most of his physical intimacy is reserved for behind doors.

Emotional intimacy is important to Lou. He knows communication ad openness is important to a relationship.

He will always keep you informed about how he is feelings, and he is always open and ready to hear you.

Lou is not afraid to cry in front of you, knowing that he can be his most vulnerable.

He never judges or represses your own feelings, and is always there to help you embrace or heal from them.

Part of your bond is formed through work.

You work together and see the same things, you go through trauma and good days together, and this brings you closer than ever.

To quote one of my favorite Jane Austen novels: “There could have never been two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison, no countenances so beloved."

Kissing:

Yes Lou does enjoy kissing, but as previously mentioned, not often in a public setting.

He loves slow kisses, he wants to make it last. Often until you are both breathless.

He often kisses you while both of his hands are cupping your face as your head is tilted back.

This often leads to him trailing kisses down your cheek and neck, and then to your shoulder.

Lou is so fond of kissing other parts of your body as well.

Kisses on the back of your hand, wrist, your cheek, temple, behind your ear, your neck, etc.

Kisses to your stomach and thighs if they are exposed when you are lying in bed.

Lou adores when you initiate kisses.

You are probably shorter than him. So if you grab him by his collar and pull him down into a kiss, it is hard for him to repress a grin.

He finds it adorable if you step up onto something to be his height or taller to kiss him.

This can lead to him grabbing you and setting you on the counter, as he stands between your legs to continue kissing you.

If you are a giggler when it comes to kissing (super ticklish), he will take advantage of this, I can guarantee it.

Lazy kisses in bed as you drift to sleep. Or soft kisses in the morning to wake you up.

Since you are co-workers who are also in a relationship, he has to resist the urge to kiss you at work.

Sometimes he can't help it, and will get you alone in a hallway or his office with the blinds shut and kiss you.

Always saying he can't resist. Or not being able to kiss you could be classified as a form of torture.

Pairing: Det. Lou Ransone x GN!Reader *This is my first time writing for Lou, I hope you guys like it!

Plot: You and Lou Ransone have been working together for a while now, and within that time, you both developed feelings for one another, though you each think it is unrequited. Lou think's he has these feelings under control, up until the moment he finds out you have a date.

Warnings: A somewhat detailed kiss towards the end, but that's it.

As you made your way through the precinct, you swallowed down the now familiar anxieties that appeared every morning. Through the glass of Lou's office, you saw him facing the case board, his back to you. Walking into the doorway, you looked him up and down. His tall frame, and broad shoulders sending an all too familiar palpitation through your heart.

Realizing you were staring, you cleared your throat, causing him to turn at the noise. His face was clear of emotion, until he saw you, then a smile crossed his face as he turned fully towards you.

You smiled and handed him a coffee, "Morning."

He smiled in return and took the coffee. "Thanks."

You nodded, "Anything on the tapes?"

He sighed and sat on the corner of his desk, shaking his head. "Nothing useful."

Walking past him, you looked over the board again, like you had done a dozen times already. Taking a sip of your coffee, you were unaware of his eyes grazing over you. He had his own anxieties, similar to yours, that he pushed down and out of sight. You had a way of making him feel nervous that he wasn't sure how to deal with.

IYou were a junior detective working under him, you made a great team, great partners. It was inappropriate for him to think of you the way he did. But he knew well enough that he simply could not will them away. So, he pushed them down as best he could, waiting for the moment they faded on their own, or waited for the moment they burst out, unable to stop them, effectively ruining your working relationship.

As you turned suddenly, he nearly flinched as you faced him. Hoping you had not caught him staring, he sat up a bit straighter.

"I just realized something. The manager of the gym said that they didn't recognize the victim, how often did you see him on the tapes?"

Lou thought back for a moment, "Only twice, about a week ago, and then the day before he was killed."

You frowned, "Then how come he had a gold card on him? New members only have access to the first floor of the gym, unless they have a gold card. And only frequent members can get a gold card, and the manager has to approve it, so how did he get one?"

Lou tilted his head, "Someone gave him one?"

"But none of the members said they knew him. Which either means he stole the card, someone was willing to buy him one, or the manager is lying and they did know him."

Lou nodded his head in thought, "It's enough to question them all again. Nice one." He said with an approving nod as he stood. "Lets head back to the gym."

You nodded, hesitating as your phone buzzed. Pulling it out, Lou saw an unfamiliar name cross the screen, and briefly saw the message, though only catching part of it before you turned the screen off.

Lucas:

'Hey --- excited for tonight '

That was all he caught, but he felt an uneasy feeling on his chest, and seeing a similar look on your own face as you put our phone away, he asked cautiously. "Everything okay?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah." You excused, as he watched you with a look of curiosity and worry. Your gut clenched with a familiar nervousness when he looked at you. Why did you want to hide it from him? It's not like he would care. As you exited his office, you spoke again, "Uh, it's just...My friend set me up with some guy last week, and I have another date with him tonight."

Lou felt his whole body hesitate for a moment at this, before he forced himself to keep moving. "And your nervous? Don't you like him?" He asked casually, trying to hide the sudden jealously taking over.

"Yeah, I do! Otherwise I wouldn't be going on a second date with him." 'I just wish it was with you.' You ignored that thought and smiled reassuringly at him, but you saw something in his look that made your heart jolt.

"What? Don't you think I should go?" You asked with a tone of uncertainly, and a silent hope he would say no.

Lou realized his face was not as blank a he thought. He shook his head, "Oh, no, I wasn't thinking that" 'Yes I was.' "I just...You hadn't mentioned him before, I would have thought that if you like him, you'd just mention him, that's all. But it's good, you should go."

You felt a sense of disappointment at his words, but clung to the idea that he was lying, that he was really thinking something else.

"I hope you have fun." He added on, ignoring the pressure on his chest.

"I'm sure I will." You said with a smile as you headed towards his car. Your heart sunk, some of the hope you felt disappearing.

Silently chastising yourself, you reminded yourself that you should have never expected anything from him. It's best for you to move on, try to be with someone, instead of sitting around waiting for someone who would probably never see you like that.

Lou tried to force his thoughts back to the case and away from you. But the thought of you being with someone else made a jealousy appear he could not quite stifle. What did he expect to happen? You always being alone, only ever having him as a partner, and nothing else? He knew that was a selfish thought, and he knew he should not wish you to remain alone, simply so he could not feel like this. This was a grave he dug himself and he knew he had to lie in it.

The rest of the day proved well for the two of you in regards to your case. You questioned the manager again, and they fumbled. They did know the victim, they got them a gold card, and they killed them, over an old grudge that should have been long forgotten.

Though you were glad the case was over, your mind was busy with other thoughts. Ever since you had told Lou about your date, he had been talking less. You would catch him staring at you more often than normal, and any time you got a text or call, he seemed to glare at your phone.

Was this him being protective? Just as a partner or a friend? Or, was he jealous? Angry? Whatever it was you couldn't shake it. You relished in the idea that he wanted you all to himself. That he was jealous. But you couldn't just assume it was so. It could be something else entirely.

Lou himself knew he was losing focus, failing at repressing his feelings. His eyes kept wandering to you, his chest kept tightening at the thought of you being with someone else. And every time your phone went off he wanted to throw it, afraid that it was always him. And he knew you noticed, you kept catching him, his stares, his gaze.

He thought he was imagining it, but you seemed, hopeful, every time you caught his eye, it was like you were expecting him to say something, wanting him to say something. And before, when you asked him if he didn't think you should go on your date. He didn't notice it when it happened, but there was something in your tone, as though you were asking him to tell you not to go.

Sitting in Lou's office, packing away the files and evidence, you noted that hi blind were shut, closing you off from the rest of the precinct. You couldn't help the anxious feeling in your chest at the idea. You'd think you would be used to being alone with him, but you weren't. Plus, the silence was deafening.

As you packed away a photo of the victim, you shook your head. "Human pettiness never ceases to amaze me. Killing someone who was your friend, over a grudge you held onto for nearly ten years?"

Lou blew out a breath, "People have killed for less." He commented.

You shrugged your head as you closed the lid of the evidence box, ready to file it away, when you heard your phone alarm go off. Suddenly, you remembered your date, which you had effectively forgotten.

Lou saw the look on your face as you turned off your alarm, and looking at the clock, he felt his chest tighten, realizing it was time to watch you go off on your date.

"I should go." You said softly, as you began to grab your bag.

As you turned away, Lou, feeling a sort of helplessness take over, your tone was obvious now. You didn't want to go, but you were making yourself, because you had no reason to stay.

Suddenly, he spoke before he could stop himself. "Don't go."

Your body froze, your back to him. He watched you in anticipation as you slowly rose and turned around to face him. Your face was full of confusion, worry, surprise.

Your heart was beating heavily in your chest, and you almost felt as though you could not breath. Swallowing, you forced down your anxieties and spoke, trying to sound more unaffected than you felt "What? Did I forget to do something?" You looked around, wondering if you forgot to file a report, to pack something away.

"Don't go on that date." He reiterated, his voice slow, as he stood up.

You stared at him in silent shock, he towered over you, his gaze piercing yours. Not in anger, or worry, but almost in torment, like he was begging you.

"Why?" You asked, your voice so soft it was almost a whisper.

Lou tilted his head a bit, he knew he was no longer hiding it, he was exposing his feelings to you, and he knew you could see them. He also knew, you weren't running.

He slowly rounded this desk his eyes quickly grazing over the windows, making sure they were all covered. Before he stopped right in front of you, gazing down at you. "I think you know why."

You swallowed, your eyes switched between his as you searched his gaze for something to tell you you were misunderstanding, that he was joking, lying. But you found none of those. But you were still uncertain, still scared.

"Say it." You said softly, not a question, not a demand, but a request, to end your suffering and anxieties.

"He let out a deep breath, almost staggered. Taking another small step closer, he brought his hand up to your face, but did not touch you. It hovered over your skin as he seemed to consider what to say. A soft ghost of a smile crossed his face as he shook his head lightly.

"I though I could push it away. Hide it. And I was doing pretty well until...until him."

You held your breath as you realized, this was only happening because you had told him about Lucas.

"Then I realized that I was losing you. Not that I ever had you." He shook his head and looked down, realizing what he said.

"You did." You said suddenly, causing him to lock eyes with you again. "You do...have me. You've had me for a while now. I just never thought you wanted me."

Lou shook his head and let out a soft breath. "You are all I want. And I thought I was okay with only having you as a partner, as long as you were here. But now I see I was wrong, I want all of you."

He had lowered his head as he spoke, so that his face was only an inch away from yours now, and his hovering hand was now cupping your face. "Can I kiss you?"

Your heart skipped as he asked, his eyes flicking between your lips and your eyes. Unable to speak, you smiled lightly and nodded.

Tipping your face up with his hand, his lips met yours softly, before the kiss deepened with his growing desire. His remaining hand found it's way to your waist as he pulled you closer. You rested one of your hands on his arm, as the other wrapped around his neck.

Having gotten lost in the kiss, you were both startled when your phone suddenly rang. You let out an amused breath as you looked at your phone, seeing that Lucas was calling you.

You grimaced a bit as you met Lou's eyes. He rose one brow before looking back at you, "Do you want to tell him or should I?"

Letting out a chuckle you shook your head, as you typed out a quick apology and sent it, reminding yourself to send a better explanation later. "I hope he doesn't get angry."

He shook his head, and shrugged somewhat confident and proud tone. "It doesn't matter, he'll get over it."

You chuckled softly as you set your phone down, "Yes, he will." You agreed.

Lou smiled and pulled you closer to him again as he leaned down, ready to kiss you. But just as your lips touched, a knock on his door caused you both to step away from one another again.

He sighed as he gave you a look of annoyance, and you smiled to yourself and turned away as a police officer came in with some reports.

When he finally left, closing the door behind him, Lou let out a soft sigh as he walked back over to you. "Now, where were we?"
