classmate!karina who can literally do it all. she's the human incarnate of the song little miss perfect : straight hair, straight a's, straight forward,.. teachers more often than not swoon in her presence, she's voted class president on the first day and underclassmen and seniors are equally in awe of the enigma that she is; elusive but alluring.

it's only natural that you would fall for her; how could you not? with the way she slips her arm into yours everywhere you go and how she always makes it a point to greet you by being physically affectionate : hugs from the back, forehead kisses, head pats, nose boops and whatnot,. there's also those kisses which she places right at the corner of your mouth; her own so close to yours that if you were to move even the slightest you'd end up brushing against hers,,

but whenever you try to ask her about your relation, your sad little question of "what are we rina.." goes completely unheard.. :(

but then !!! comes along transfer student!yunjin :) this'll be fun :)

when the teacher approaches karina with the matter of showing the new girl around, helping her catch up to the syllabus, etc; you were with her and quite clearly able to feel the hesitation radiating off of her figure. so you, being the kind-hearted soul you are volunteer your own help !! the teacher doesn't really gaf,, as long as she knows you won't shower the new girl with worms or something she's chill w that :p

however, karina is still apprehensive because she's apparently heard rumours that yunjin was,.. notoriously known as somewhat of a delinquent. she doesn't really want someone so cute, so trusting like you around her..

but when the vivacious redhead greets you with a charming grin, your defenses immediately lower.. yunjin was so sweet! how could someone like her ever even be assosciated with those rumours?

you soon find yourself spending a lot of time with her,, karina always seems so busy nowadays.. you know how tough class president duties can be plus she's always working on a million other things as well, and you get it, of course. you support her fully!! it's just,.. sometimes you can't help but feel sad... it feels like she's avoiding you on purpose :(

like when you were having lunch with yunjin one day and karina walked into the cafeteria. you waved her over but her nose wrinkled as if she'd smelt something sour and with a brief smile (which was SO obviously fake) she left..

..??????? you need to put in all your strength to not breakdown in tears right there. but yunjin is there to comfort you~ she always is <3 she wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you closer to offer comfort. her hoodie that you'd been wearing (it was coldd and you being in a hurry that day had worn only a t-shirt - she couldn't bear to watch her new friend freezing now could she :( so she ever so chivalrously gave it to youu <3) along with her warm embrace made you feel very comforted~

but your feelings for karina still reign strong. so you decide if she won't tell you what you did to upset her, you'll confront her yourself

except.. yunjin ends up talking to you out of it... her argument makes complete sense : karina probably just wanted some space from you. if you approached her right now, she'd only retreat farther away, and you did not want that

so whenever you're feeling particularly vulnerable, in a 'fuck it we ball' kinda mood she's always there to prevent you from making a mistake!! she's so thoughtful <3 she's over at your place pretty often + sleepovers have become a new norm for you two because hey who knows when you'll need a comforting hug from your friend right? :)

but then, against your better judgement - yunjin would be so sad for you if she found out.. :(( - you finally give in to your urges. you decide to properly confess your feeling to karina on the 14th of feb. you really miss what you had with her, you miss being her friend.. and even if she hates you now you'd rather at least get closure than be ghosted irl 😔

so you go all out! go big or go home by enhypen plays in the bg you make her favorite chocolates, write a letter explaining how you feel, decorating a cute red heart shaped box and wrapping it all up w a cute ribbon <3

there is now the dilemma of how to give it to her.. hmm you do know she has patrols in and around the sports ground after lunch every alternate day.. and by your luck 14th is one of those days!

you ditch yunjin with a couple of fake excuses, desperately dodging her offers to come with you when finally, looking extremely dejected she leaves

sighing with relief you make your way to the first floor into a classroom from where you can easily see the entire grounds. and oh! you see those familiar long locks of black!! rather ungracefully, you decide to just throw your box out hoping she'll see that your name is written on it and not immediately throw it away

as soon as you're ready to chuck it down : you hear a familiar voice, "yn? what are you doing here??" it's karina?! how is she here?? but in your shock you accidentally let go of the box; only managing to keep holding on to the letter

shock and dread fills you at the thought of someone else taking the box and thinking you were confessing to them you dont even bother to look at karina even though it's been ages she's initiated a conversation with you.. as you leave, in your frustration you ball up the letter and throw it in the trash, completely forgetting that the person it was for was right there??

you race downstairs but end up bumping into a whirlwind of red. it's yunjin. the sheer happiness on her face somehow settles into you and you can't help but ask her whatever happened to make her look so delighted

she immediately pulls you into a tight embrace, "oh yn i like you too!! i thought you were still hung up over karina and i was so worried that she'd steal you away from me but if you have feelings for me that totally changes things!! i was ready to completely isolate you so you would only have me to depend on but fuck- you're so cute confessing outright out of nowhere!! even kazuha said she could've never seen it coming - you always seemed so heart-struck around her after all"

this shouldve been a red flag but the dazed state you'd been thrust into made all her words pass right over your head. you can only reply with a weak "kazuha..?who- what do you mean.."

"oh are u jealous?? that's so cutee ynniee and i mean exactly what i said pretty!! shit does this mean we're dating now? i've been waiting since forever to be able to call you mine.. oh my god i could kiss you right now.." yunjin's overenthusiasm leaves you very flustered and honestly? a little weak in the knees?

"so can i then??" yunjin's still talking "can you-?" "can i kiss you yn please we're dating now right?" "we are..? of course then.." and she wastes absolutely zero time in immediately diving towards you, tilting your neck to devour your lips with her own, her other hand sneaking its way to your waist, pulling you closer, closer.. yes you're still in the middle of the hallway but yunjin would be damned if she gave a single fuck, not when she has you like this and you.. you're still lost in some kind of a daze that only becomes heavier as your gf's (?) lips work against yours, till her hands holding you are the only reason you're still able to stand

you gain some sort of consciousness, when you're completely out of breath (ironically-) and push yourself away from her gently

yunjin immediately moves as if to chase after your lips but then seems to notice something behind you which makes her smirk.. huh.. she's really pretty; are you just noticing this now?

she pulls you into her chest then, like she's down millions of time and you carefully place your arms around her shoulders as she pats your head, whispering something soft in your ears - which you sadly can't hear due to the slight sound of blood pounding in your ears.. but in the comfort of her arms you really can't seem to bring yourself to care, simply enjoying the comfort she provides you with.

unbeknownst to you, as you and yunjin were in the middle of that passionate exchange, karina had managed to track you down and witnessed in horror the painful sight of you with her. god she'd ruined everything, that fucking bitch. how dare she even touch you with such bad intentions? granted karina's thoughts about you weren't 100% platonic either but you were hers. and she intended to do whatever she could to make that happen..

summary; when you, a waitress at the local coffee shop, are paired up with the new recruit scaramouche, you’re pretty sure both of you are going to get fired within a week. he’s just quit being a social media influencer and after being forced to work here to make ends meet, he’s ready to let everyone there know how much he hates it. the worst part? you can’t shake the feeling that you know him from somewhere. but as he slowly warms up to you, scaramouche realises that having a fresh start isn’t that bad after all, and perhaps the two of you meeting like this was pure serendipity.

kokomi: you see? he was a drama youtuber and he got clout off of ruining other people's lives - he even got fired from genshin impact! when genshin threatened a lawsuit, he agreed to settle privately by deleting all his accounts. genshin must have paid to scrub all the traces of him they could from the internet too. i knew there was something fishy about him!

y/n: honestly, fuck you, kokomi.

kokomi: what?! why me?!

y/n: because who cares what his past was like? yeah, maybe he used to be a shitty person, and yeah he's still a pain in my ass, but he's changing. scara hasn't done anything bad since he started working here, i don't know why you're so against him.

Music for The Kiss at the end of Year Two, one of the most climactic moments in the series.

I ended up having to split this up into two different tracks: one that's a lot quieter and softer, which would ideally play between Jack leaving Bitty at the end of the graduation ceremony (end of 2.17), to right when Jack runs off to find Bitty after talking to his Dad.

The second is the big moment, where Jack finds Bitty in his old bedroom at the Haus. It's much more loud and grandiose. It's swooping and encompassing. It's the kiss.

As always, it's best listened to with headphones!! And be careful with the second track, it goes from real quiet to real loud pretty quickly!

The reason for splitting it into two is simply because, to me, it felt like two different tracks. I was trying to aim for something realistic that you'd hear in the tv show, and tv shows are chock full of dialogue and quiet moments; it quickly became apparent to me that there was a natural separation between the first half of this track and the second half, right after Jack runs off to find Bitty and right before he finds him (basically, when Bitty is crying to Halo by Beyonce).

Anyway, I got this out way faster than I was expecting. We can thank 1) back-to-back snow storms alongside back-to-back arctic freezes that kept me in the house all weekend and 2) sudden inspiration in the shower for how to actually start the first song.

I really hope I did it all justice. When I listen to it I can see it all in my head, so I hope y'all can too, and that y'all enjoy it!!

Here's the track I did for the 2.17 - Graduation update, which in my mind plays right before this if it were in the tv show.

More of my thoughts under the cut:

Starting off right at the end of 2.17 (Graduation), where Bitty hugs Jack thinking that's that and they walk away from each other, I really wanted to keep it light and soft. Airy almost. It's such a delicate moment that it feels wrong to imagine it being noisy with music.

When the piano comes in, that's about when Jack finds his family and talks to his Dad about not having said goodbye to everyone. This is still soft because this conversation Jack has with his Dad is a big one. Then, in the comic, when Jack has his oh panel, there are faint music notes in the background, which I've always believed to be church bells from a campus cathedral or something (don't ask me why. If I'm wrong about that don't tell me either, let me be ignorant in peace). That's what you hear at the end of part one, and the music growing louder is Jack realizing what he has to do and running off to do it.

Between the two tracks is when Bitty is alone in Jack's old Haus bedroom at the beginning of 2.18 (Goodbye for the Summer, pt. 1). I figured all you'd hear in this moment is him singing Halo by Beyonce and sniffling.

Then Jack finds him, and the second track starts. Cue the strings, building, then the swell.

Then the climax.

I pulled the same theme from the Graduation track for this moment, bringing it full circle, only it's much more grandiose and epic in a romantic way, because this is what we've been waiting for, what Bitty's been pining for, of course it's big and loud and encompassing. It's like being swept off your feet and flying up, up, up off the ground. I even bring the church bells back in - maybe the window is open and they're still going off, or maybe it's wedding bells going off in Bitty's head, or something.

(Honestly, I just liked the way it sounded haha.)

The rest of the song is when they start to come back down to Earth, when they break apart and Jack's phone starts ringing, and Bitty's in a daze going "Okay, okay" while Jack's promising to text him.

Then Bitty's alone again. But not really.

“Large fry and a large Hi-C. $2.17 at the next window.”

She danced in the passenger seat, rubbing her belly. “Our hero,” she sang at him. All he’d done was stop at McDonald's to get her a snack before the appointment, but hey - he would take the praise.

When that outstretched hand passed him the glorious paper bag, he seriously could’ve sworn it was God’s gift from above by how she gazed upon it. Tearing it wide open, digging out a handful of fries, she popped them in her mouth and gave a drunken, “So gooood.”

Sure as hell smelled like it. Cooking oil and salt. The crunch. Each tiny little moan leaving him salivating for a bite of his own. Man, he’d really fucked up by not getting anything for himself.

Luckily, he could just wiggle his finger at the bag and she was willing to share.

She fed him while he drove. It was about as coordinated as catching shrimp at a Hibachi restaurant. Each time it would miss his mouth and bump into his nose she would give the cutest giggle, but the fun had to stop when one actually went straight up his nostril. He was sneezing out salt for a whole block.

“So,” she said, taking a small sip of her drink. “I was just thinking, since we have about 15 minutes to kill, why don’t we do a little drive by? Just for fun.”

Javier treated her with a knowing glance. No way she didn’t plan on this. It was all falling a little too perfectly to be just chance. But she could flutter her eyes with feign innocence and give him that please-please-please smile that she knew he couldn’t resist. She was too well-versed with his weak spots. Probably because she was all of them.

Fuck, he really hoped the kids didn’t inherit that as he was taking a wrong turn at the next light.

Some would say he’s whipped, and while he would never deny that, she was carrying his children, and honestly, driving a few blocks out of the way seemed like the least he could do.

When he turned onto the street, slowing the car so it was a creeping roll.

She tapped on the glass and squealed, “Look! Baby! It finally has the sold sign!”

“There we go.” He gazed at her, then at the house.

Their house.

An older Georgian colonial that was basically the embodiment of an American wet dream. Just an iron-rod fence instead of a classic white picket. He preferred it like that – she would say it gave the place some charm, which the interior had loads of.

While there were a number of modern touches, the house maintained a certain level of character with its various built-ins, wooden archways, and despite two of the fireplaces being non-working, the one in the living room still ran perfectly.

Upstairs were three bedrooms. An office downstairs. At the back of the lot was a garage that the previous owners had converted into a studio space, and with a few tweaks would be perfect for his dad.

Sure, it was slightly over the set-budget. Nothing crazy. A couple bucks extra a month – one less coffee a week. Besides, he had the money. He’d saved up his paychecks while in Colombia. After all, he’d only bought himself whiskey and bread during that time – the rest was usually comped by the government.

Then, there were those two years he’d lived with Chucho, and despite his protests, his dad insisted on paying him for all the work he’d done.

So, they bought it and the way she lit up made it all so worth it.

She sighed, watching the home disappear behind her. He reached over, giving her thigh a reassuring squeeze.

“Think - in less than three weeks, it’ll be ours.”

She smiled at that, leaning over the console and giving the quirk corner of his lips a tiny peck, then one to his cheek, and another on his jaw

A happy sound rumbled from his chest, and the smirk she flashed at him drove him absolutely insane. He wanted to steal it from her lips – pull this car over and kiss her salt-stained lips and taste the Hi-C on her tongue.

She could basically sit there and do nothing, and he would still be raring to go. God – he wanted her. Constantly.

Not once did he expect to be the kind of guy who lost his mind seeing his wife pregnant, but fuck - did he crave her. He would eat her pussy in the parking lot if she let him. Or if time allowed.

Her confidence had grown along with her bump. She’d become equally as insatiable. All those hormones were making her unforgivingly horny. Some days she would get home from work, strip bare at the door and take him right there on the couch.

She was so sensitive now, and he was utterly addicted. Delirium. A small tweak to her nipple - a perfectly placed kiss to her neck - brushing his thumb across her clit. Any and all of it would have her crying out and squeezing him –

Javier felt his pants begin to stir, and his grip instinctively tightened on the wheel. Holy shit. He needed to calm down.

This was really not the time.

He focused all his attention on the road, working math problems in his head. He’d learned that trick in high school, and it worked like a charm every time. His boner was gone by the time he trailed behind her into the doctor’s office, but he did have to avoid looking at her ass.

After flipping through magazines, Adam propped open the door, signaling them back.

It went on in the usual routine. A weigh-in. Vitals. A few questions before leaving her to change. Once in her gown, she laid back onto the bed, and Javier dragged a chair over.

“Okay. Before the moment of truth, best and final. Go.”

Javier hummed, tapping on the table paper. Of course, he’d wondered about it, mostly when someone else brought it up. It was a typical curiosity. He wasn’t really hung up on what they were. Girl or boy or whatever, it didn’t matter to him; so long as they were healthy, he was good.

And no – he didn’t care how cliche or corny that sounded.

As expected, Joe and Steve had taken their bets, and even Ruby had joined in on the fun, but her old wives tale tricks had come up inconclusive. Big ole shocker there.

Javier went with a good shot, “Boy and girl.”

Her head thumped against the pillow with a big pucker pout. “That was my guess.”

“It can still be your guess,” he chuckled, making her eyes roll as if she was actually annoyed.

In a swift knock, Dr. Kelly walked in with Adam on her coattails. It was straight to business. How’re you feeling? Any pain? Any cramping? Any spotting?

She was officially at the half-way point. 20 weeks. In just five short months, they would be here. Like physically - out in the world. The thought made his stomach do a little roller coaster swoop.

The gel hit her belly and even though she was mentally prepared, she still gasped.

Dr. Kelly moved the wand around, until there was a flash of something, and with a few clicks - they were on the screen. It was incredible, and also so strange to think they were inside her belly. Just chilling. Growing. Weird.

They were real wiggly today. Probably a sugar rush from the Hi-C. They currently weighed around the size of two oranges. Baby A was just a little bigger, by a single ounce, but they were right on track with all their fingers and toes accounted for.

Then, came the question: “Are you wanting to learn the sex?”

Javier gave her the lead, and within seconds she was eagerly bobbing her head. She clutched tightly to his hand.

Girls.

Two girls.

Her jaw dropped, and she gazed up at him with sparkly eyes brimming with so much love. Javier almost lost it, right then and there.

He placed a long kiss on her forehead, squeezing his eyes shut, and for a split-second, he didn’t know where it came from, but he thought about his mom. How happy she would’ve been with two granddaughters to spoil. Even after all the years, it still stung, especially in moments such as these.

He pulled back, just enough to look into her eyes, and she cradled his cheek. God. What did he do to deserve her?

“Looks like Joe’s gonna have to pay up,” he teased, making her giggle. Steve had been right.

“Congrats, man,” Adam said, “must have some pretty slow swimmers there, huh?” Dr. Kelly promptly swatted him.

As compensation for Adam’s lack of filter, Dr. Kelly printed them an extra set of photos. Worth it. Those were going in his office. After a few more minutes of drawing lines on the screen, she was able to wipe the gunk off her belly. Adam flicked on the lights.

Dr. Kelly snapped off her gloves.

Yes - he was well aware there would be risks involved. He wasn’t stupid. But the possibility of anything happening to her was just too much.

He’d experienced fear and terror. He’d lived in a place of it for years. But this was different. Maybe because he knew grief and loss so intimately. Nothing could compare to the fear of living without her. It was all-encompassing. Overwhelming. It robbed him of air. Choked him. Strangled him.

It could send him to his knees. God. Please anyone, but her.

Dr. Kelly must’ve noticed his state as she spoke directly to him. “Mr. Peña, let me just assure you that when the time does come, I will do whatever I can to try and ensure both her safety, as well as the babies.”

Javier looked at his wife for reassurance, which he found in her soft smile, and equally tender gaze. It’ll all be okay. He swallowed down the foreboding lump because if she could believe that everything would be fine, then he could too.

Johnny: What’s wrong? You haven’t been acting like yourself.

Lexie: I don’t know. I’m sorry.

Lexie: It’s not you. I guess…I just started thinking about all the stuff Cece and I planned and I got upset again that she and Ben couldn't come.

Johnny: I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but I guess I just don’t understand why you’re so disappointed that Cece couldn’t make it. I know I said I wasn’t into the idea of an itinerary, but we can still do everything you wanted to do. Just let me know what that is.

Lexie: It’s just the principle behind it. I don’t know. I think I’m just still in my feelings about not seeing my family for Christmas, then my friend cancels on me. It kind of makes me feel like an afterthought.

Johnny: You’re not an afterthought, Lexie. From what you’ve told me, your parents love you a lot. And I know Cece feels really bad about not coming. She was so excited, and I know it meant a lot to her that you helped her with planning.

Lexie: I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have taken it out on you. I don’t know what’s wrong with me lately. I’m not usually this sensitive.

Johnny: Well, just don’t shut me out, ok?

Lexie: I won’t. Let’s try to get some rest. Are you going to be able to sleep after having your nightmare?

Johnny: I think so. But do you think you could hold me until I fall asleep?

Lexie: Of course.

The whole Angel turn into Angelus seems like a coming of age metaphor. Buffy gets intimate with her boyfriend Angel and he turns into an asshole, demonic creature.

Do you think this was intentional in the show’s part where a lot of their storylines is rooted in metaphor? How do you think the whole Angelus situation reflects onto Buffy and Angel’s relationship?

I always felt like Angelus still loved Buffy or at least the closest thing Angelus could approach to ever loving someone, being obsessed with them.

Even Willow commented commented about it, about how Angelus shares a thing with angel, how Buffy was all he ever though about.

The Angelus situation adds a very interesting dynamic and a new perspective to the Angel/Buffy dynamic and I wish people talked more about it.

It seems like many Bangel fans separate Angelus from Angel and Buffy relationship, and they are right to a degree Angel isn’t Angelus but it adds a incredible complex and interesting element to their relationship. I wish people talked more about it.

With Bangel it was so obvious how much Buffy and Angel loved each other, you can feel the pain and vulnerabilities of Buffy through the whole situation, you can see and feel how much Buffy cared and loved Angel and vice-Verza.

Buffy was in pain, but it was because of how much he loved Angel.

Maybe this is just me but I never felt the same wirh Spuffy, I always preferred them as belligerent friends than as a couple.

When they got to they whet Buffy was also in pain, but everything happened because she had no one to turn to, because of desperation and you can see how one-sided Spike and Buffy relationship truly was. Buffy looks disgusted and desolated every time she is with Spike. Is so incredible one-sided even the last “I love you” was out of pity.

I’ve seen how many fans tend to justify Spike’s actions and lay the blame in Buffy.

With Bangel I don’t see that happening too often even though it could be extremely easy to do so (Angel lost his soul after experiencing a true moment of happiness) but I wish people didn’t leave out Angelus out of the equation, because is part of the Angel and Buffy lobe story.

What do you think of it? What do you think Angel turning into Angelus represents as a metaphor? Do you think that when people talk about Bangel they should consider Angelus as part of the dynamic? Why or why not?

Hi! It was definitely intentional. Joss Whedon, the show creator, has spoken about this many times over the years. The first three seasons is "high school is hell" but literally. The Angelus storyline is the best representation of that, while also being the peak of the entire show, in my opinion.

Buffy having sex with her boyfriend and him losing his soul is meant to represent girls sleeping with their boyfriends or "finally giving it up" and then the guy just ghosts them or starts treating them like shit. Like, oh, they finally got what they wanted from them so now they can say and do as they please.

Joyce even says to Buffy in 2.17, "Don't tell me. He's changed. He's not the same guy you fell for." And she responds, "In a nutshell." Not that it needed to be spelled out because the metaphor is very obvious, but that's them spelling it out to the audience.

I think the Angelus storyline is incredibly powerful. It's a reflection of the depth of Angel's feelings for Buffy, and it adds so much to their love story. I think Angelus did love Buffy in his own sick, twisted way. Him being soulless just transformed the purity of Angel's love for Buffy into an obsession. Angelus hates the human parts of himself, and Buffy represents Angel's humanity, so him trying to destroy Buffy was also, like, self-flagellation in some ways? Which is just extremely tragic and heartbreaking but endlessly fascinating. Angelus literally wants to destroy the world to escape his feelings for Buffy. Even without his soul, he feels the depth and power of his love for her, and you really see this in 2.19, which is a sorely underrated episode.

I do understand why Bangel shippers separate Angelus from the Bangel relationship, because they weren't together at that time and obviously we shouldn't be romanticizing stalking, obsession, murder and psychological torment. It's a bit more nuanced than that, though. The storyline reveals so much about Angel and his love for Buffy while also putting a pause on their romance because he is changed. It's masterfully done, the way the story continues to develop the tragedy and profundity of their love while simultaneously mourning the loss of it.

The Spuffy dynamic is completely different, I don't really see the comparisons. The writing is thin, less compelling, and kind of makes me miserable? But not in a good way? Like, there's good television that breaks your heart but it's just so good that you love to hurt. With Spuffy, I just felt depressed and uncomfortable. Anyone who victimizes Spike and vilifies Buffy doesn't really seem to understand what the storyline is trying to tell us. So, it's honestly not worth having a discussion with them about it.

But to answer your final question, Angelus should always be involved in any discussion concerning Angel as a character as well as his relationship with Buffy.

Thinking about a tidbit in this answer about Company structure that reiterates a tidbit from the Trustee Handbook as pictured in appendices for 1.03: that becoming Prime Consector makes one ("technically") a member of the Upper Trust.

In other words, the Prime Consector is a member of the Upper Trust independent of their Valor account specifically by virtue of their rank within the Company, as its highest officer. They are a member of the Upper Trust even if the number in their account does not meet this hypothetical Valor threshold that I assume exists.

I personally think it seems unlikely that most appointed to the position of Prime Consector would meet that threshold on their own, independently of their rank, but I don't imagine that it's difficult to hit that threshold once you're in the office and hold it down for a while. It's a position that affords one plentiful and constant opportunity to accrue Valor, just in the course of performing the role. However, that distinction of "technically" feels like it would, obliquely, pressure anyone in it to behave at least until they do meet that threshold independently.

We do know, through Spahr's own observation in 2.17, that Spahr's account is significant, enough to weather even "a big hit", and that it would take a lot to put him into debt. However, we also know that it's not SO significant that Imelda cannot easily eviscerate it if she put her mind to it, per 2.13. So, DOES Spahr meet the Upper Trust threshold on his own? Maybe he does, maybe he is indeed a member of the Upper Trust on the strength of his account. But, we don't know that—and what if he isn't?

It doesn't really matter because maintaining membership into the Upper Trust is clearly not among his concerns at this stage. (He has other concerns like trying to alleviate that increasing sense of guilt and dread that's been eating him alive lately.) However, that question does help sketch out what he's looking at here in terms of what his life looks like within the Trust after he is removed from the position, especially since there is currently a Valor freeze and if Spahr drops out of the Upper Trust, he is immediately subject to that freeze. He's still fairly young, only about thirty. The Upper Trust is probably asking him to retire. CAN he reasonably do that? If he potentially isn't Upper Trust on his own, independent of his rank as a Prime Consector, can the current state of his account sustain him retiring so young?

Again, the number in his account doesn't actually matter given the bent of his character arc. These are not the real concerns that truly plague and worry him at heart, about whether his account is strong enough to sustain the rest of his life if he is forced to retire now, but they are interesting questions to me in terms of framing what the options and roads before him are and in terms of contextualizing what he is being asked to do by the Upper Trust.

* I am doing a whumpslist for Will Trent, which is currently airing, and the books by Karin Slaughter the TV show is based on, I'm still undecided whether to publish it or wait to complete them all. What would you prefer?;

* I have to update the Titans' list with the first part of the fourth season;

forgot where i left off oops ^_^; but to start off, cryogenic temperatures are defined as temperatures below 123 kelvin (i will be measuring in kelvin because absolute zero (where all molecules are still) is measured as 0, so it's easier to measure cryogenic temperatures that way). "cryogens" are defined as fluids with boiling points below 123 kelvin.

helium is the cryogen with the lowest boiling point of 4.25 kelvin and is also not able to freeze at normal pressure levels. this means it does not have a triple point (where solid, liquid, and vapor co-exist) and it can only be solid at a pressure of 25.3 bars.

when helium is cooled to 4.25 kelvin it becomes liquid helium. when liquid helium is cooled to 2.17 kelvin (the lambda point) it becomes superfluid (it is called the lambda point because when pictured on a graph of heat capacity as a function to temperature, it looks like the greek letter lambda)

superfluid is a state of matter basically exclusive to helium and it is *awesome*. it exhibits zero viscosity and large thermal conductivity. there are also four mechanical properties of helium:

- thermomechanical effect

- mechanocaloric effect

- fountain effect

- rollin effect (yes, spelt "rollin")

the rollin effect is the only one i can explain without a diagram. when a test tube is lowered into a liquid helium bath, the helium will "creep" up the test tube and into the test tube. when the test tube is raised above the liquid helium bath, it is emptied out slowly. this makes containment of liquid helium difficult. the ability of superfluid to flow against gravity is called the onnes effect.

liquid helium is used for the NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance, it is used to study molecular structure), and the MRI. it is also used in some maglev trains.

So I've been writing Lucky Girl for a long time now - almost 11 months and while it's had moments of being a lil spicy I've yet to actually you know... write anything truly spicy (chapter 2.17 doesn't count because Dean was awful)

(I typed this up for my Japanese study log lol but it was so funny to me, I figured I'd also share it here)

Okay, so...

I was looking at my Japanese study Notion library page and kind of wanted to clear out a slot for Dungeon Meshi, since I wanted to be able to track my progress with the chapter count. I’d had 女装してめんどくさい事になってるネクラとヤンキーの両片想い ("Crossplay Love: Otaku x Punk" in English) volume 3 in there since literally the day I created that page, I think. I had sort of given up on it last year because it was too hard for me to read at the time for what my level of investment was in the story, plus I got sort of busy with the translations and ran out of time/energy for manga reading projects, so I’d basically shelved that book for the time being.

I had gotten like halfway through the volume already, though, so I thought why not just read the rest of it so that I can move it out of my currently reading section? So I started reading it again and abruptly realized that I didn’t super remember a lot of the details in the story. At the time when I had started reading it, volumes 1 & 2 had been translated into English, but 3 hadn’t been translated yet, hence why I had picked it up in Japanese. Fortunately for me, though, the English translation has gotten a lot further now!

So what I did was speed-read up to the chapter I left off in English, then I finished the volume in Japanese. Hooray! I could remove it from my currently reading section!! 🎉

Except… after finishing volume 3, I wanted to know what happened next, so I just kept reading (in English) and quickly finished volume 4, then 5, 6, 7…

(You can probably guess where this is going.)

I reached the end of volume 7 and was like “aw man, I want to know what happens next, but I’m not sure if I care enough about this series to take the time to read it in Japanese… I’d rather just wait and read the English translation of this one and spend my energy on things like Dungeon Meshi instead.”

But I have spectacularly poor impulse control when it comes to this sort of thing, so just like what compelled me to buy volume 3 in the first place, of course I ended up caving immediately and buying volume 8 in Japanese, and I ended up back in the exact situation I had tried to resolve in the first place, with the series still technically on my currently reading list… 😩

Thankfully, my Japanese is better now than it was a year ago, and I can read manga way faster now, so I ended up sort of, uh, inhaling the series, or at least reading it about as fast as it was humanly possible for me to read it. In English, I can easily tear through a volume of manga in under half an hour. In Japanese, it probably takes me like 10x that.

I was on a bit of a deadline because I’m trying to stay super caught up on the TJPW translations to the best of my ability, so I had a narrow window between finishing the previous translation (for the last VOD show after the VOD went up on Wrestle Universe) and getting started on the next translation (which is for another VOD show, so I usually wait until the show gets uploaded before I start translating it, which is usually three days after the show happened).

I finished my first draft of the 2.17 show translation on Tuesday, February 20 (the day I watched the VOD), got my questions posted by early Thursday, and got it edited and published by early Friday, which was the date of the next show (with a 3-day timer after that until the VOD goes up and I need to drop everything else to translate).

So I had roughly a 5-ish day window with essentially no translation workload. I read a chapter of Dungeon Meshi, then finished 女装してめんどくさい事になってるネクラとヤンキーの両片想い volume 3, then ended up reading volumes 8-12 in Japanese basically as fast as I could because I was invested in the series and I also really didn’t want to have to stop reading to work on my translations (the surprise 2.26 press conference from TJPW happened fortuitously at the end of this period). In total, I think I finished five volumes in about four days.

…And the huge reveal that I’ve been waiting for the entire series, which is the main reason why I felt compelled to read on, still hasn’t happened 😩. Never start reading a slowburn romance when the story is still in progress… 😔

I saw at the back of the manga that the series apparently updates on the fourth Monday of every month, so I ended up finding it on pixiv, and I got there just in time for chapter 107’s release (volume 12 ends with chapter 105, so there are two new chapters available on pixiv), so I’ve now read literally every chapter currently available.

I’m in the same boat as the Japanese fans now, I suppose! Waiting a whole month to get drip fed a little bit more of the story at a time… It brings me back to my days of following webcomics as they were happening, which I was never very good at, so we’ll see if I fare better reading serialized manga.

I guess to review 女装してめんどくさい事になってるネクラとヤンキーの両片想い, difficulty-wise, I found it honestly harder than Dungeon Meshi, because even though it takes place at a high school and theoretically has more normal vocab, like every single character in the story talks weird in way that is totally different from how the other characters talk weird, and there’s far more slang and stuff written out in a way that isn’t super parseable by Yomichan (which I'm able to use on the book thanks to Mokuro). So my lookup tools didn’t account for my weaknesses nearly as well as they did with Dungeon Meshi.

I can see why I dropped it last year, because I lacked some of the grammar back then that I understand a lot better now. It’s the kind of story that is best enjoyed as easy reading, so once you take away the ease of reading, I think it’s hard to push through the difficulty in order to keep going.

Reviewing the story purely in terms of enjoyability, well, obviously I did enjoy it, haha! It’s a very unique story and it went to some surprising places in terms of the themes and story developments, considering the fact that most of the plot revolves around what I can only describe as Shakespearean comedy levels of ridiculous crossdressing drama.

The main point of interest to me was the LGBTQ themes, and I would say that it honestly surpassed my expectations there. We’re not at a point where “these characters are trans” is part of the explicit text of the story (and it might never go there), but the main relationship is gay no matter how you slice it, haha, and there’s another major character whose story reads as very much a trans narrative, and there’s a canonical lesbian couple as well.

Something I really appreciate about it is that interactions with those characters are some of the major driving forces in the relationship between the two main characters. Like, there’s a sense of commonality and shared experience between them and those other characters, and sometimes a sense of alienation and yearning at what the others have, which the main characters feel that they’ll never get to experience because they’re trapped in a situation where they can’t be their authentic selves.

A friend asked me how yuri it is, and honestly I'd say very? I don't think it bills itself as either GL or BL (and people who read exclusively either would probably both be unsatisfied with it). But to me, the core relationship and the conflicts that the characters increasingly grapple with as the story goes on feels more like the kind of thing you’d see in yuri. There’s a whole lot of yearning.

I was amused by this panel from volume 8 because there’s some slang in there and a few non-WaniKani/non-textbook words, but I’d learned literally all four of the new words from translating TJPW, including the one with a non-WK kanji in it (and two of the words were tricky translations so I remember them pretty clearly haha), so I was able to instantly read this panel without needing lookups:

If I'd timed it a bit better and waited for a 50% coinback sale on Bookwalker, I could've gotten a great deal on it lol but I was too impatient to wait fdjkghdfjkg. At least the Japanese edition is way cheaper than the English one...
