January 26th 2024 - Today was a SPECIAL day because me and my friends went to the Persona 3 Reload Pop-up Restaurant at Ramen Yokocho and got one of EVERYTHING and loved EVERY bit of it! We were overjoyed, this was an incredible experience that we all got to share!
I ordered an Aigis Set Menu because I Can Never Be Normal About This AroAce Headcanoned Robot Girl Ever and got an amazing burger and matcha ice cream with dorayaki. The drink that came along with it was amazing too!
We also got to keep the little food mats as posters which means I now have THREE Persona 3 Reload posters in my room. Can you tell I can’t wait for this game yet??
If you’re in London and love Persona like me you must go to Ramen Yokocho for this! It was absolutely worth my time and everyone at the restaurant was awesome! The promo goes on until the end of March I think and I definitely want to go back there soon!

I know that just a couple of weeks ago, we posted about a trip to The Lowback (read about that trip here) but as far as I am concerned, you can’t have good steak too often so I didn’t see an issue with a trip to Goodman City relatively soon after our Lowback visit.

We were offered a bread basket straight away which always puts a smile on my face.  I have to say, I wasn’t expecting the variety of this particular one.  You had a couple of slices of thick focaccia, a little bit of white bread and some very moreish crackers with a mix of black and white sesame seeds on them.

A good steak restaurant has to have good sides.  We ordered some mushrooms which came in a slightly creamy sauce and a little bit of chives sprinkled on top.  This was super simple but super tasty.  The mushrooms were really juicy; we really enjoyed these.

It’s hard to go wrong with creamed spinach other than not enough cream.  Fortunately, this wasn’t an issue here so we ended up with delicious creamy cheesy spinach :)

We were trying to decide between mac n cheese or chips and in the end, we went for the mac n cheese.  Personally, I slightly regret not just getting both but you can’t always have everything.  Luckily, the mac n cheese was very good so I can’t complain too much.  The mac wasn’t too overcooked, the cheese was pretty cheesy and there was a breadcrumb topping that added a little bit of crunch.

And now onto our steak.  This was an grass fed bone in ribeye.  One of the things I really like about Goodman is the different types of beef they have.  They always have at least a choice of USDA corn fed stuff as well as grass fed beef.  This was just a perfectly cooked great piece of beef.  So good!
All in all, it’s hard to fault Goodman in terms of being a steakhouse.  It has the key ingredients to being a great steakhouse; good sides and great beef!  Goodman is definitely up there as one of my favourite places to get steak alongside the likes of anything from Hawksmoor!

7 Jan: lunch at Itsu in London
we were in London, we were hungry, I wanted noodles, and he didn't wanna spend a gazillion dollars. itsu was the perfect solution! it serves inexpensive, but delicious and filling, ready-made hot and cold Asian-fusion bowls, sushi, and other yummy things. And almost all of their beverages come in reusable, metal bottles!
my partner enjoyed the dining room set up, and said it was like a lot of casual restaurants he remembers from his time in Japan - the tables are long shared bar-height counters with stools, and unless you're there in a large group you're not gonna have a whole table to yourself. the divider in the middle, as you can see, has USB outlets for charging devices, which we were very grateful for.
9.5/10, delicious and convenient, no complaints -> half a point off for being a bit of an overwhelming environment, but now that I know what to expect I think I would enjoy the set up more next time

Iraqi Jewish confectionery are a window into a bygone era

Five days a week, 78-year-old Tzvi (Sabah) David rises at 4:35 a.m. and dons an all-white baker’s outfit before heading out to open up Konditorei David, the last-of-its-kind Iraqi pastry shop in Petah Tikva that was opened by his father David Tsalah.
Three days before the Purim holiday, David is getting ready for one of the busiest times of the year as multiple generations of Iraqi customers will soon stop by to purchase sweets that have been synonymous with Purim for Iraqi Jews for centuries, if not millennia.
“I love the work. It is a very tiring and difficult job and I am not 18 anymore, but I feel young in the morning when I get up,” David tells Eliyahu Freedman of The Times of Israel on a recent visit to the small shop, which doubles as a window into the pre-modern world of Middle-Eastern pastries.
His first item of business today is making a fresh batch of baba qadrasi, also known in Arabic as “mann el-sama” or “manna from heaven,” named after the legendary food that God miraculously delivered from the sky to feed the Israelites in the Exodus story.
If not truly the biblical food itself, an early recipe for baba qadrasi was found in a 10th-century Abbasid cookbook.

It’s been many years since we have been to either The Palomar or its sister restaurant The Barbary (read about our previous visits here and here) but have always had very fond memories of a couple of great meals.  The other day, we walked past The Palomar and seeing there was no queue (which is pretty unusual), we decided to pop in for a bite.

You can’t come to here and not get some of their super fluffy pitta breads.  They are only small but they are just so pillowy and soft; absolutely delicious!

To go with the pittas, we ordered what was on the menu as David’s Hummus.  We don’t know who David is but he clearly knows his way around a chickpea.  The hummus was amazing and just look how gooey that yolk is in that pickled egg!  I could easily have gone through many portions of pitta bread just with this.

The other dish we got to go with the pitta was the ashkenazi ikura which was essentially sour cream and salmon roe, with a little bit of oil and some chives.  This was another perfect complement to the pitta and tempting as it was to just fill up on sour cream, hummus and pittas, there was more of the meal to come!

First up of the rest of the meal were these lamb skewers with carob molasses.  These were lovely little meaty kebabs with the molasses going really well with the lamb.

We also ordered a plate of enoki mushrooms with chuma paste (which I think is a red pepper paste).  It did have a bit of a kick to it but tasted great!

This was the Jerusalem mix.  A mix of chicken liver, chicken thigh and chicken hearts, this was a great hearty mix of chicken bits that was perfect for a rainy winter’s day.  If you happen to have any pitta left over, that sauce is just asking to be mopped up with it.

It can be hard to get in without a booking but it’s definitely worth a wait.  The food is amazing and with the open kitchen, always has a great buzz to it.  We definitely don’t plan to wait years for our next trip here!
